    I purchased the 75" B9 and I'm quite simply blown away, after coming from the Samsung 65" QN95A. The picture clarity, motion, colours and local dimming are outstanding, but what surprised me the most was the audio, it's waaay better than any TV I've ever owned or heard. It's pricey, but I don't regret a penny of it.
    Oh and as for screen uniformity, my 75 inch panel is near perfect, except for that old Sony trait of ever so slightly dimmer corners, which you really have to look for. Thanks for the review👍🏼

    Love OLED’s perfect blacks, but the Bravia 9 is a monster. For reference my Switch looks far more vibrant on the B9 and brighter than the C3… and the brightness is only at 10/50 for the B9… it is that bright.

    FINALLY saw the 85" Bravia 9 in person at a local Best Buy and it didn't disappoint! Sooo incredibly immersive..vivid..bright in the right areas (specular HDR highlights)... incredible oled-like blacks...etc. The Bravia 8 & A95L were positioned directly next to it and the B9 looked better "to me" than those...A great bargain @ $4,799...

      Same. I know the A95L has a wider range of colors, but based on the Sony demos, you couldn't tell. What you could tell is that the Bravia 9 is an insanely good TV.

      I haven’t noticed any issues with auto local dimming. I had the tv calibrated right away. I forgot what it’s set to (low/med/high) but it is on. I can speak for any units being defective but it’s not based off new tech so I don’t think there should be any concern about that. • @Cblan1224
    @Cblan1224 2 месяца назад +6

    I wish they put a g4 there instead of a95l, especially for gamers.
    The g4 is the clear choice at these prices. There is just no reason to get an led with only 2 hdmi 2.1 ports when the g4 is super bright and does 4k144hz with processing that's just as good

    • @bleachedwhale
      @bleachedwhale Месяц назад +2

      That's only true if you're spending most of your time gaming. Sports, live television and 24 fps content aren't going to look as good on any OLED.

    • @MyFatherLoves
      @MyFatherLoves Месяц назад

      The G4 is also a heck of a lot more expensive. Especially at the 80" models. The B9 is what? $4,800 and the G4 is at an eye-watering $6,500.... The G4 does reign supreme for games but IMO is not at all worth the $1,700 price difference.

    • @Cblan1224
      @Cblan1224 Месяц назад

      @bleachedwhale I don't get why people say this. A calibrated g4 will be at..what..a brightness level of 13? Sdr is suppose to be 100 nits and you really think something is going to look better than oled? Oled offers a LOT more than just gaming performance. There is not one category in which the bravis 9 beats the g4, or even a95l. Movies are 1000 nits and don't go beyond p3 bit you think an led with local dimming is going to be better than an oled...that's insane. A 1500 nit oled removes the relevancy of any led unless you're looking to go big or save money.

    2:57 I think you're way too kind about these kinds of bugs. Tv manufacturers seem to have completely forgotten how to make decent firmware. When we got our LG C3 in january I almost immediately noticed about five or six bugs that I had never seen reported in any review, because owners spend much more time with one particular model of tv than reviewers do. Obviously the bug reports for LG are so convoluted that I'm still in the process of reporting them. This is far from unique to LG. I've had similar experiences with Samsung and Philips and I've heard Sony isn't much better. Tv manufacturers deserve all the crap they can get from reviewers about bugs, because at least that might cause them to try their best to solve them for a change.

That's a serious flaw that should've been corrected way before launch. At the worst it should've been a day 1 patch, to make sure consumers weren't affected. Instead, the tv had been on the market for over 6 months before it was fixed. We're basically paying tv manufacturers to become their beta testers at this point.

      From what I saw and heard so far ... the new Bravia 7 (also equipped with a "Backlight Master Drive") is roughly on par with last years X95L...

    Exaggeration of the off angle response of this TV which is absolutely the best non-OLED TV ever. It was stated that the brightness degrades at 45 degrees off, however all TVs brightness degrades at angle >45, it’s physics. And brightness degradation on a very bright TV is not really a negative. The real question should be about image color degradation or accuracy and that’s where this Sony excels. I saw the comparison of the A95L to the Bravia 9, and I saw the QD-OLED not able to represent well objects which were not bright separated by objects much brighter. The Bravia 9 however made the dimmer objects visible and more resolved. Also, the Bravia 9 is designed to work well with content mastered to 4000 nits peak brightness and since this review didn’t test that superlative capability, the review doesn’t really accurately support the value of this TV. And don’t argue that content isn’t out yet. Well yes, but the mastering capability was just recently upgraded.

Therefore, if you bought the 65-inch or 75-inch X95L, you got a lower-quality panel compared to the 85-inch. How are things this year with the Bravia 9 (XR90)? @@Voce24 valid concern. What attracted me to to OLED is the wide viewing angles. This TV is wall mounted in my living room on a wall nearly 30ft long. I have seating to view the TV straight on, as well as sofas that are perpendicular to the TV wall which can create viewing angles that are not ideal. The B7 image was completely washed out from the side seating, which in hindsight should have been expected, so I can't knock it for that. The major disappointment, however, was that I didn't find the picture quality all that impressive even in ideal seating. I wanted to like it. Also thought about the B9 since the price point is so similar to the G4. For my situation it just made more sense to take advantage the OLED wide viewing angle, which is really incredible btw.

    You geys keep saying you lose a HDMI 120hz port. But thats not always accurate. I.e. if you connect the EArc 120hz HDMI cable to a receiver capable of supporting HDMI 2.1 inputs, then you increase your HDMI 2.1 ports by 3-6 more ports. Now if the EArc port is NOT 2.1 120hz and u attached the cable to the capable receiver then that renders your receiver HDMI 2.1 inputs useless as you cant use any of the receiver HDMI for 120hz signals. So sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not good to have the Earc port and 120hz as the same, when there are only 2 HDMI 120hz on the TV.

  • @bleachedwhale
    @bleachedwhale Месяц назад +1

    Listing the HDMI 2.1 eARC port as a negative isn't accurate for every use case- I have an AVR with HDMI 2.1 switching, and while I would rather have four 2.1 ports on the TV, in my situation it's no big deal because the AVR is handling most of my inputs anyway.

    • @marcuscole8796
      @marcuscole8796 Месяц назад

      That's pretty true for AVR owners :-) ... nevertheless ... after HDMI 2.1 was released in 2017 and implemented first in 2019 (LG C9) ... after these 5 years every highend and expensive tv should offer ALL ports capable of this state-of-the-art technology. Regarding the Bravia 9 price point RTINGS critic seems to be quite just tho.
      But yes ... practically seen, many people do not need all the HDMI 2.1 capabilities ... WHAT would be helpful: tvs with only two HDMI 2.1-ports should use one of the HDMI 2.0-ports for their eARC-connection ... leaving THEN two HDMI 2.1-ports which would cover most requirements :-)

    • @bleachedwhale
      @bleachedwhale Месяц назад

      @@marcuscole8796Again, I would rather Sony have switched their suppliers to gain four (or more) 2.1 HDMI ports, but- if you're using a newer AVR with 4k/120 hrz+ support to switch your inputs, having eARC on one of the 2.0 ports is a major detriment, so I'm very glad this TV doesn't have that configuration.

    • @marcuscole8796
      @marcuscole8796 Месяц назад

      @@bleachedwhale Unfortunately the most powerful SOC (besides LG's and Samsung's ofc) is the MediaTek Pentonic ... and this chip offers 2 of the fast ports only ... so, Sony basically doesn't have a choice because LG and Samsung won't sell them to Sony.
      Because eARC doesn't require the higher bandwidth of HDMI 2.1 there actually is no drawback at all by implementing eARC on one of the 2.0 ports ... many 2.0 ports today are a mixture of 2.0 and 2.1 ... very often lacking the high bandwidth only.
      I very often saw such 2.0 ports being communicated as 2.1 recently although they were lacking full bandwidth ... this seems to be allowed by the HDMI Association ... which as a customer I feel being somewhat disturbing and misleading.

    • @bleachedwhale
      @bleachedwhale Месяц назад

      @@marcuscole8796 Sony has much more leverage to gain high end features from its suppliers, and to reverse engineer competing tech from alt suppliers than you're giving them credit. The real reason they haven't adopted four 2.1 HDMI inputs is purely cost. They are still under contract with their current supplier for a set price, and although they could launch new product with an alternate supplier at will, the ramp up and engineering will be expensive at scale. That's understandable, and I don't begrudge them that point. I just wish they had made the switch on this generation rather than on a later one. It practically reeks of FOMO for high end non-brand loyalists. Regarding your thoughts about eARC compatibility on some HDMI 2.0 eARC TV inputs- HDMI version 2.1 is not a strict requirement for eARC, but eARC was introduced as being one of the aspects that would be included with HDMI version 2.1. If you hook your 8k 60/HDMI 2.1 equipped AVR into a 2.0 HDMI port on a TV, you're not going to be able to view 4k120/8k60 content on your TV coming from any source on the AVR. This is the whole point of having eARC on an HDMI 2.1 port, to gain both the functionality of eARC and high bitrate passthrough, which is important for gamers and those who wish to have a better browsing experience on PC. That may not be the majority of users, but it should definitely take priority over cost on a flagship television on a premium brand like Sony.

    • @bleachedwhale
      @bleachedwhale Месяц назад

      @@marcuscole8796 The reason Sony hasn't switched to newer HDMI chipset/switches is entirely down to cost. They are likely still under contract with their current supplier, and although they could be reverse engineering a new 4x 2.1 HDMI board right now, the production cost to scale up for retail will also likely be too high to justify launching it on a single product line for now. I don't begrudge them that, however- I do wish they would push this change forward some, as the competition is overtaking them in the high end space, especially on image processing. As far as your thoughts on eARC on HDMI 2.0, it will work fine with all the audio formats and have the same fidelity, but you will lose the capability to pass through a 4k120/8k60 signal, which is important for next gen gaming. This is why hooking an external 2.1 HDMI switcher/AVR into a 2.0 HDMI eARC TV port kneecaps your television's 120hz VRR capability.

    I don’t think the “QLED” description is the more suitable for the title…the main feature is “MiniLed” as its the best implementation so far…and being Sony’s 2024 Flagship implies that it has QuantumDot technology built in…there are almost no MiniLed TVs without QD color conversion layer…

    Blows my mind that a TV of this price and prestige only has two 2.1 ports, with one of them being an eARC. That's such a ridiculously arrogant slight to the consumer that I wouldn't even consider buying this TV due to that.

      It has to do with the MediaTek chip inside Sony TVs. Samsung and LG manufacture their own proprietary chips in-house with enough bandwidth to support four HDMI 2.1 ports. Every other TV brand (Sony, TCL, Hisense, Vizio, Phillips, etc.) sources their chips from MediaTek and even MediaTek's current flagship chip can't support the bandwidth requirements for more than two HDMI 2.1 inputs.
      Apparently, MediaTek is releasing a new high-end chip later this year and Sony and Philips will be the first brands to implement it in their new 2025 TVs. By then, we should start to see Sony TVs with more than two HDMI 2.1 ports

    • @Icipher4
      @Icipher4 2 месяца назад

      @@vikingsfan2218 That's great and all but why doesn't the Sony implement foir 2.1 ports yet? My C2 from 2 years ago has four 2.1 ports that I use for connecting my Arc, PS5 and series X. Seems crazy that the "premium" flagship from Sony wouldn't have four 2.1.

    • @vikingsfan2218
      @vikingsfan2218 2 месяца назад +20

      @@Icipher4 Did you not read what I just wrote? Samsung and LG design/manufacture their own processors for their TVs. These chips are powerful enough to support four HDMI 2.1 ports. Sony does not design/manufacture their own processors. They buy them from a company called MediaTek. MediaTek currently does not manufacture any processors powerful enough to support more than two HDMI 2.1 ports. That's why every TV brand that uses a MediaTek processor (pretty much all of them except for Samsung and LG) is limited to a max of two HDMI 2.1 inputs, even on their flagship models. When MediaTek releases more powerful chips (likely in 2025), Sony will release TVs with more HDMI 2.1 ports

    It's silly to compare 65" Bravia 9 to a Hisense UX 85", especially in contrast. The Bravia 9 85" surely beats the UX in contrast and local dimming due to having 2800+ zones vs the 1600 on the 65". Maybe being a bit more accurate in these statements would make more sense?

    "...this TV is available in 65, 75 and 85 inch sizes..." Not if you live in the UK (or Europe), as Sony (inexplicably) aren't making the 65" available, so the countries with traditionally smaller homes and rooms, aren't able to have one.😖 I don't know anything about the Hisense, but (unlike the Bravia 9 etc.) the A95L doesn't have the option to change the width of the feet or height (apart from the 77") making it very difficult to accommodate.

    I knew Sony would deliver regardless. Expensive now though, haha. I already got a C4 as a PC monitor. That 'green tint' people talk about on the C4 can be gotten rid of if one knows how to calibrate, and reviewers usually don't have time for that when they review. Most viewers who 'depend' on what reviewers say usually don't know how to calibrate either (tsk tsk). Unfortunately for LG, their image processing isn't as precise as Sony or Samsung...but once it's well calibrated, it looks as good as any of 'em. The differences are minimal at worst. Sony's still my personal fave, but they take too long to release their new models. I owned a Samsung last time, so I wanted to try something else. Sorry, Sony. You guys took too long again. Maybe next time.
