This was a wild ride. Didn't expect to start from a fresh file, but I guess you need the princess' secret star door to be locked for this strat to work.
That's because they don't need to, but Enter the Secret Aquarium does. This HAS to be the first star you get in the run, which complicates a lot because you need to get to Vanish Cap under the Moat for the speed building. This why the video shows the entire process of getting there (the speed in BOB being used to enter BitDW to get the key, allowing you to go to the basement to drain the moat).
That Pedro spot(and the phenomenon of Pedro spots in general) has been known for quite some time, but it was only now when it became useful because the speed needed in the lobby to get to the aquarium was reduced from ~2000 to ~1000

I just realized that if the "meat" of this method had been discovered first, it is unlikely that it would have ever gotten this fast. Beating Bowser 1 and getting to the basement without any A presses or stars was done for the original strat because they needed to go to SSL. But you can actually reach Vanish Cap in 0xA without pressing A OR beating Bowser 1, it just takes a lot longer with hyperspeed walking. So if they had done it this way, they would've used hyperspeed walking, and it's unlikely they'd have ever bothered to get to Vanish Cap the fastest way, which is to beat Bowser 1, because they wouldn't know it's possible or care very much about if they already had Enter the Secret Aquarium in 0xA.
