Nice video and cool particle effects. I wanted to ask you. If I want the particles going backwards (from particles to object/death to birth), is there a way to do it in the Particle View? THANKS!!
Hey Clint Diclementi, I was wondering If you could help me with creating this effect. I've tried recreating this effect several times now and I keep getting an odd result in the render. It looks like the frames are skipping. My pieces are breaking off and moving half way across the scene in just one frame. Do you know of any settings in this set up that might be causing this unwanted jumping? My object is about the same size as the teapot. Thank you for any advice!
This is an amazing tutorial. I'm rendering my version as I type on here. My machines a little slow but it's getting there. I'm wondering if it's possible to do a particle morph with this effect. The kettle melts and the particles form on to another shape. Gonna investigate. Nice work. Thank you. :)
Hi for some reason my particles are going up all at the same time not slowly one at a time. I have done everything in the tutorial. I am using 3Ds Max 2015. Can someone please tell me anything that can fix this thanks :)
Why do we need the third teapot? First teapot - represents particles start locations Second teapot - the object being skinned Third teapot - ? Why not just update the material for the second teapot to make a high-temperature effect?
Great tutorial! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I finished the project successfully and took it one step further. I modified the scene to render the effect in slow motion. The first 306 of the now 802 frames render totally fine. But after that I run into some trouble. Vray starts collecting all data for frame 307 for hours without rendering the picture. In Opposite to that i tried to render 308 which again renders fine. But from frame 309 on I get the same problem as mentioned. Any ideas how to solve this issue?
+Kertryx In the meanwhile i could kind of solve it myself. Neither Vray nor the particle system did get enough RAM reserved to fullfill their task. Very interesting though is how long it took to render these 802 frames. About 48 hours. And not because of a weak graphic card or something else. For every frame Vray generated about 20 GB of Data which did need about 5 min per frame to load it in the RAM before the rendering process itself could even start. An issue I still have is that when I cache the data for the whole particle animation with the "Cache Disk" Operator, close 3ds Max and reopen the project after that i get an error every time. 3Ds Max just doesnt want to accept the already genereted Cache Disk data.
Hey!!! :) I love your tutorials! I just have a quick question: I'm planning on getting a new pc and I want it to be powerfull enough for 3D. What would you recommend looking for? What are your computer's specs?
Well the thing about this stuff is that 3D artists can use every ounce of power we can get. I recommend checking out the auto desk system requirements and then build based on your needs and budget. If you want do do a lot of rendering get more CPU power, if it's games then get a good gaming graphics card! and all the ram you can afford!
I would get an x99 system if you can. A xeon system if you can really afford it, but they can get very expensive. The more cores the better generally. I use a 5960x, which is great for switching between rendering and game testing. At the very least get a newer cpu with hyperthreading enabled. At least 32gb ram and a strong video card.
Hi For someone who is going to go into visual effects and concept design? How do go about making your effects realistic as possible? Im currently leaning to use 3ds max
official ronin High poly count, well shaped polygons, "smooth" modifier and realistic materials/textures. It takes a long time to learn but don't get discouraged.
official ronin Wach is correct, high poly counts for realism, and high quality textures, a good renderer like VRay or the like with realistic settings, and a great computer for high end 3D Visual effects. 3DS Max is a wonderful tool for VFX because Particle Flow is so customizable and easy to use.
hey clint i've put the PFfreebee.dlo but i still dont get the data test, and i dont think this coding can be cheated by using age test. any ideas? kinda stuck here. oh btw, im using 3dsmax 2012. thanks in advance
data operators are part of the Orbaz Technologies plugin Pre-3DS 2014. I'm afraid that unless you upgrade to 2014 and above, or get your hands on the Orbaz Toolbox #3 plugin, you won't have the Data Test operator to work with. Autodesk didn't strike a deal to include them in the base 3DS Max software until 2014 version.
Clint DiClementi goddamit autodesk. today i didn't get a chance to nosy about orbaz toolbox, and btw thanks to reply, as soon as i have a chance to look into it, i'll try. thanks again clint, your tutorial is not boring to watch. cheers mate
Hello, this tutorial is really appreciated. But there is one problem from me When I start the particle animation All particles are just fly. At the same time. does not follow gradient ramp material shape What I did was wrong please help me OTL
Hands down!!! You are the greatest!! Great lessons!!
Excellent work Clint! Very easy to follow and informative.
Very good, i really like your tutorials
+Clint DiClementi Rly good Tutorial, u are a great teacher !

great tutorial........I have a question
Where can I get mental ray material library for 3ds max 2015
very patient..nice to watch..Thanks Bro
Thank you very much! I have a question. Without rendering directly, if I import this to Unity engine, will the animation work there?

hey friend nice work but i need ur help im not getting data test in my 3ds max plzz tell me frm where i can get it...??
well explained sir. very informative.
Can this be baked on low poly model?
Great tutorial, thank you!
It was amazing :) Thanks for sharing my friend. :)
i have to buy mobile workstation laptop. can u suggest ?
Very well done thanks for sharing :)

NICE Tutorial! THX A LOT!
How would we go exporting this into Unreal or Unity.. how would we changes the map settings for other program to be able to read them?
Well you cant use this in engines like it is... you would have to do your shader inside the engine.
nice tutorial, but if i use a external geometry from 3Dmax (obj) (something exported) the geometry fuck up and it doesnt work

Any reason for not using the opacity map?

How do i learn more about fume fx and vray ?
Allen McKay has some wonderful DVD's for sale on Fume FX, and there is VRay stuff all over the internet =)
Where I can download Data Operators?
Thank you very much for the tutorial.
Data Operators are part of 3DS Max 2014 and up now. Until then they were the Orbaz Toolbox plugin from orbaz technologies.
Thank you very much.

Hello, this tutorial is really appreciated.
But there is one problem from me
When I start the particle animation
All particles are just fly. At the same time.
does not follow gradient ramp material shape
What I did was wrong
please help me OTL
Daekwon Park I Have the same problem! I don´t know whats wrong either :/
CalvinsOfficial I had the same issue because i use a vray material for the gradient. when i changed it to a standard 3ds max material it worked.
awesome ! thk u!
Thanks. Super!
hi my particles are dispersing into the air before the teapot changes colors. Can some one please tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks
Exactly the same problem. The forces work from the beginning. I think the problem comes from the data test but no way to find the error.
Ok, good now for me, i changed vray material to standard material on teapot emitter
mine didn't work half way through it said that I needed to turn on the safemode..? :(
i gave up half way because it kept crashing at the data test stage :(
For some reason, my 3ds max keeps crashing everytime I close out the data entry menu.
+Markus Carr I´m having the same problem as you, did you find any solution to it??
+Jakob Mellin sadly, no. haven't had much time to look into it yet, either. :/
:(
super! thx!
hey!! you can sent to me file installer..please
Thx m8 huge like
bravo
bobo神 中文看的懂么~ 嘿嘿 ~ 教程好好哦 ~ 学习啦~
