Introduction
In this video for 3ds max we'll take a look at some techniques useful to understand how we can simulate smoke/dust without additional plugins, just using Particle Flow basic tools.
What we'll do
Simulating dust/smoke can be achieved in different ways, 3rd party tools as Afterburn, FumeFX or PhoenixFD are amazing to do complex stuff with it. Sometimes can happen that we have no possibility to access to these tools and we need some tricks to create effects in 3ds max. In Smoke with PFlow we'll see how to prepare a setup to control a smoke/dust simulation using particles and space warps, and we'll see how to simulate smoke look and density with materials and procedural textures and how to control transparency and shadows.
Just watched this. Great stuff, still holds up in max 2024. Thanks.
Thanks for that, fantastic work. Simple steps and an effective result.
Thank you! Really easy to follow tutorial. learn't something I didn't know :)
Quick tutorial with nice results, great job!
Right, really simple, just to understand how to solve problems with not so much tools
Good stuff as usual!
Yeah !! Thanks for this useful work.
Great tutorial, Is there a way to keep the particles from "popping" at the end of their lifespan?
Thank you
Great ... so useful.
Gracias super útil!!!
Thank you for sharing.
thank you it is good tutorial
Hi Alessandro, wich you prefer the most? FumeFX or Phoenix? Thanks for your time!
Thanks
good tutorial.
I came to a similar result when i created smoke for the first time.
However i still have one big issue. Each smoke cloud (particle) starts with full size and ends with full size.
On an animation you can then clearly see how single particles appear/disappear.
I still haven't found out how to make particles grow/shrink gradually over their particle age.
The only solution i found was using many Events for different size steps.
-particle age 0-10 frames small particles
-age 10-20 frames medium particles
-age 20-30 frames big particles
The problem here is that i have to basically copy the whole Event with all the particle settings and just change the size each time.
Any idea how i can link the particle size directly to its age (so i can keep only 1 Event)?
Coool! Thanks a lot!
good video, but I still can't assign material to the particle
Can I use this smoke with GPu Octane renderer Thanks!
con pflow se puede hacer un tornado también podrías hacer un tutorial sencillo de un tornado con pflow
help, when assign material. the particle didnt show the circle. (gradient ramp didnt show)
thanx again alessandro
Thanks to you for following us
can it be done by using vray renderer?
how can i get substance material s like the one you used for the floor?
