Trust this young man. When I first got in to the industry back in '90, we had a road atlas, and for towns and cities, you bought a map for those as well. No cell phones. You called in once every 24hrs. That's the way it was. I got out of the industry about thirteen years ago. I decided it was time to go back out and show these young people how you do it. Well, I'm showing them, but Google maps screwed me hard. Had it not been for my experience, I'm sure the accident I could've had in the winding hills of northern New Mexico, would've made national news. I've got the Garmin Dezl. Just got it yesterday. It'll be a lot less stress, and a lot more confidence moving forward. Yes, it was expensive, but the time taken on back roads climbing hills at 20mph, and cruising at around forty miles an hour will cost you a lot of time. That equals more time for the same pay, whereas if you had a route that is PROVEN by other trucks with GPS that have taken that road, you'll make better time.

@@therealtruckingguy not a driver or a trucker, but just came across this video and I found interesting. On my standalone Magellan GPS, it has a map route option to say “most use of freeways”. So wouldn’t the standalone GPS for non-truckers using that type option be at least potentially better than using Google maps?

On my list this week! Doing RV Transport right now and my Ford navigation screwed me bad in Oregon just getting back to I-5 last week.

Lol...The AZ mountains ate no joke. My partner decided (against my advise) to take that "shortcut" once on our way from CHI. We were pulling doubles. I laughed the whole time watching him work his ass off negotiating those curves, and downgrades. When we finally made it out, I asked if he would take that route again. "NEVER." 40-17 all the way 😆 🤣 😂

Know of any trucking GPS that displays arrows for each lane and highlighting the land you need to be for the turn, like Uber driver app.

Had been trying contract work. First Company didn’t have trucking GPS in there trucks. They told me to use my phone. I refused load. That was just crazy to me. How are you going to be a major company. But, don’t have right equipment for your drivers. Protect your CDL. They only care about getting the product delivered at any cost.

I've seen guys with years of experience relying on their phone maps. 🙄
