GREAT Info! This is what I do also. With the internet and cellphones available I doesn't make sense to not use these tools. Especially Google Earth where you can look at the area you are going to
Old Hippie Vapes thanks sir. Yeah google earth is awesome. A little out of date sometimes. We used it yesterday to see if trucks could park at a Walmart. There was trucks parked in one spot but when we got there they were building fuel islands lol

Planning a trip here, and it's nice to get tips from the pros.
I use Google maps also, but set it to satellite view, do gives me sn idea on how the shipper and final destination looks like. Also, s life saver is the oldschool trucker atlas to find low clearance areas. Keep on trucking!
Love your videos! In this video, you guys were in our neck of the woods. Hubby currently works for a large manufacturer in Alpharetta, and we live just north of Woodstock. He starts starts truck driving school in October. Then we will be on the road most of the time. We're looking forward to this new adventure. Thanks for sharing your lives & trucking tips with us!

in country australia we have truck stops every 100km and dunny dumps every 200

Diesel fuel in the UK costs about £6 per gallon ($7.75 ) and you pay $2.41 or £1.86 although we have truck stops about every 30 miles on our Motorways (Interstates). Most lorry trips in the UK are less than 300 miles though. Legally we are not allowed to drive more than 9 hours in a day, although this can be extended to 10 hours twice a week. 56 hours in a week. 90 hours in any 2 consecutive weeks. We must stop for a break of 45 minutes minimum in every 4.5 hour period as well. All this is monitored by Digital Tachograph in cab with a personalised digi card. Our Police and Highways Agency do regular checks and the data is stored for months so no hiding extra hours ;)

Thanks for the video. Wouldnt you take into consideration all the stop and go that's comes with taking those smaller roads? Less fuel mileage and google doesnt take into consideration the acceleration loss when stopping at lights.

How do you find low clearance in the map before you drive?? I’m new to the game and I’m really scared to hit does low clearance ✌️✌️
BUM824#680 we rely on our gps to know not to send us under low bridges. Also we watch for clearance signs. All interstate us highway and state highways will have at least a 14ft clearance. Stay away from parkways in the northeast and watch your clearance signs when on back roads and you’ll be ok. I was really scared when I first started too
You should check out getting one of the garmin GPS units that have the voice command search on it. When i need gas all i say is "voice command" "find place" "pilot" (or any major truck stop or gas station) then i can either select sorted by nearest distance, closest to destination, or along route.
also another thing i would recommend, i use it for my sprinter but idk how it would work for a straight, is gasguru.com....they have a trip planner that basically you give them your route and theyll calculate the cheapest gas to make the trip happen...
Dylan Retrac I'll have to look into that. We do have a garmin but the voice part don't work to well with this load truck at highway speeds. Lol. We do use the what's ahead feature though. Great tips thanks.
i have gotten some loud loads with metal skids and the voice command is usually pretty good, if im not in a mood to plan out the best gas prices carefully i dont even think about gas, i just go and use the voice command to find pilots/fj along the route. Itll give you a list of all of them and how far away each one is.
you would probably have to get the dezl model made for the trucks i had one that had the voice in a semi
Can you please make a video on setting your pta for day driving preferably I’m a rookie just barely started out almost done with mentor training I dont like driving at night time so how can I set it to were I can drive in the day and shut down at night but also be on time with my loads need help
This may be a stupid question, or just none of my business, but why would a load require you to not stop for at least 250 miles after leaving with it? Just figured as long as it is delivered on time and in good shape they wouldn't care.
Zebra3 your guess is as good as mine. Many high value loads come with this requirement. I've read the assumption of after a long distance most potential high jackers would give up. Just what I've read. I'll have to ask dispatch sometime
Some freight company's require their loads (or certain loads) to leave out and travel a certain distance nonstop to deter theft or hi-jacking. My guess on their theory behind this... doing so puts distance between the load and potential thieves and/or how far potential thieves are willing/able to travel to steal the load they in question. Most thieves are lazy... else, they'd have real jobs :)

Great video sir very informative.Question sir, it all this route trip planning and you're using your Google or even trucker path how do you know when you're changing up your routes that you're not running into a low bridge or tunnel along your route?
First thing I thought when he said the words "google maps." This is all wrong! Google maps is designed for cars like a Honda civic. The google maps time calculation is for car speeds NOT transport truck speed. Generally big rigs go slower than cars due to lower posted speed limits for trucks, hills, heavy weights, etc. Google maps usually does not consider official "truck routes", low bridges (especially on secondary roads), tunnels, bridges not designed for a heavy truck etc. Do not use Google maps drivers. Use a good truck GPS or app. Be safe everyone.

Does a customer dictate the route you decide to take? I tried to discuss a logical route with my dispatcher and they told me I couldn't do it because it's the decision of the customer and the fuel route provided, which I never heard of given the 4 years I've been driving, and the fuel route was way off course. From the direction I was going
There can be customers who request a certain route be taken. We’ve only experienced it once or twice. Very rare though

How do you know if you can travel on those roads with a 16 wheeler .My trainier said its not always right , for a rookie ..
Most state, us, or interstate highway you are safe. One thing you need to watch for is when driving state and us highways and those go through small towns you need to watch for signs that may have truck detour. In the northeast forget about it lol
Route planning, find route, divide miles by speed you can drive. Fuel in the way. New drivers are stupid. Not hard to plan.

Chris Shaw that’s a good question. I would guess you would still need to do some sort of test. I’m fairly certain companies would recognize it as experience though

hey bone head you got to remember a lot of state roads are 55ft long & 73280 gross,, so careful about state 2 lane,, check your truck routing
Will the company tell u to fuel up before routes like this? Or do u have to ask em can u fuel up
They tell you to be aware when you get loads like this in orientation
