WINTER is coming, I'm a Northern European Truck driver, and here our Diesel will be winter treated but still we have heated fuel lines and a heated pump in the fuel tank .... this because temperatures can drop to -30°C in the northern hemisphere .... maybe a tip for you to prevent diesel fuel gelling up during the trips. Our trips even go up north across the polar circle.
Flying Js in "cold weather zones" (IA, IL, CO, MA, MI, NY, ND, SD, MN, NE, WI, WY) start to treat their fuel from the first time the temp drops to 15F through the beginning of May. Town Pumps in MT usually also switch over to winter blends in October and keep it through April or May.
The North Bend TA didn't used to be so heavily pay-to-park, but about two years ago it went from being just the spots on the west side of the shop to being most of the parking lot.
I'm glad that you got through Minnesota without stopping in Fargo (I've watched too many of that series)!! On your first try with the the butterflied chicken, so there is no need to go overboard with brining etc. Put the chook (medium size) on the cutting board and cut through the breastbone with a decent knife. Then pick up the chicken , thumbs inside the cavity, and open it up. Then put it down on the chopping board and use your closed fist to flatten it along the spine, gently. Lightly sprinkle with salt and pepper on both sides and then a light sprinkle of olive oil both sides. Insert temp thermometer (don't hit the bones). You will need to flip it every five minutes (Lid down of course). On a Weber Q with town gas, it takes about 20 -25 minutes. Just when the breast reaches the set temperature (check on web, I don't know Fahrenheit) take it off and let it rest for a couple of mins with foil over it. Breast will be juicy, thigh and legs just right, and skin crispy (for Heather). Minimal work. Enjoy. Later, you can experiment with rubs, tandoori marinade, brining etc.
Great video as usual but something was wrong then I realised the sound was reversed so you're voices were coming out of the opposite speaker to they side each of you were sitting lol you will have to try spatchcock chicken
When you split the Chicken or a Turkey its called spatchcock, I did a turkey for Thanksgiving it was the best we have ever had! Nice and crispy with no soggy mess on the bottom of the bird. Love some Tri-Tip, when I was stationed in Riverside, CA they had Santa Maria Barbecue's where they used Tri-Tips only and it was fantastic! Here in SE Mo we have to hunt the Tri-tips down, hard to find. I think how you cut them will help in the tenderness. Be safe, have fun!
I stopped at loves last week in Utica IL. Round midnight to refuel.. and the whole store was closed. But Fuel islands are all up and running. I thought this was crazy they have signs on the door closed from 10 to 6 AM.
Spatchcock and Dry brine your chicken, loosen the skin and get the salt under the skin and let it air dry in the fridge for 24 hours uncovered. The skin will dry out and will be super crispy. If you wet brine skin will be rubbery. Set your Traeger to 375, rub some olive oil and season the outside with your favorite rub and I Guarantee it will be the Best chicken you ever had!
@@TheCraftyTrucker Just a side note, A good rule of thumb is a 1/2 tsp kosher salt per pound of meat. So a 4lb chicken measure out 2 tsp. kosher or Corse salt and apply If using table salt, cut in half. Use this rule on any meat.
Yep! You posted on Thanksgiving and I am giving special thanks for you two fun folk! I so look forward to each of your postings because you are so nice and Real people. Trying to grind a meager existence out of every mile you log! Ha Ha! One the best things about you kids is that you post as you travel, bringing us to speed with where you were, where you were going and how you got there! Love that here you are in this Giant rig with those cute little pups. Having them along is like traveling with your kids and I always loved traveling with mine whenever . Hope you picked a load as you were heading South, but I will find that out at your next posting. Drive safe you two.
You went right near my house when in Wisconsin. We got so we didn't stop at the TA in Hudson. Hardly ever any place to park. And their fuel was always higher. Glad you pass your inspection. Beautiful scenery shots. Thank you for the video. Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.
Wow. I got pulled over near Little Rock this last week. Just wanted to do a random inspection. I passed. But blunt before I had anxiety about why I had flashing lights behind me. And he opened up the passenger door and scared Remi half to death.
That ta is my favorite truck stop in the United States just because of where it's at the TA is a dump but just behind that fence I seen over 300 elk once the coolest thing I ever seen
Learned All my lessons the Hard Way..I remember COMING out of Albany NY.. West bound 88 heading toward Binghamton NY..froze up had to change The fuel filter _ 10 sized of the road.. Man that' suck..thank God I was Young... that's The last Time that' happen..
Many years ago in the early 80s my boss had me ad unleaded gas for diesel additive. I would add 1 gallon unloaded gas to about to about 300 gallons of fuel. Don't know what that would do to the new generations of trucks. Back then there was no pollution control stuff on the trucks back then
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. As always, I spent it alone, mostly sleeping the day away. I had 4 fried hot dogs cut up in pieces and baked beans soaked in brown sugar and syrup, then drained, is a really good one pot dish, quick and easy to make and very delicious. If you can tolerate thin toast which I can't, it is really good dipped in the sauce. Fry hot dogs first in butter & when done take scissors and cut into really small pieces , then add the baked beans and brown sugar and syrup, leave simmer about 20 minutes and drain. I think you and Jason will totally enjoy this fast tasty meal. I'd say 4 hot dogs and one can of beans for each person. As always, I hope you guys are doing well health wise and the good loads keep coming and your travels are super safe. BTW, congrats on finding the KOA, and passing the level one inspection and getting a nice white sticker.
That meal sounds very good! We are going to have to give it a try. So glad you & Shyann had a nice relaxing Holiday. It’s always nice to do nothing sometimes. Hugs to you both!
Happy Thanksgiving! Your videos have the best b-roll and music, and chat - thank-you! It’s fun to watch for those of living alone and having to shelter in place.

Hi Crafty Truckers here in the UK we call a chicken that will lay flat on the grill a Spatchcock , no idea why. But it looks really good when it is cooked correctly. You can Google this to see if it what you were talking about. I hope you have a Happy Thanks Giving. 😀🇬🇧💜

You know my view on the us is colored by your president but luckily you are here to show how beautiful your country is and how nice the people are!
salt sucks out the moisture I use dry rubs with yellow mustard to hold the rub on. Mayo also works
I live in cali and seeing you two doing your thing is very interesting to me
Splitting the chicken is called spatchcock. It helps with even cooking. And lends to a quicker cook as well.
Best way guys for a split barbecue chicken salt, vinegar ,butter, water heat an stir measurements vary but very tasty

Spatchcocked chicken is what its called.
They are treating fuel in MN, ND, and WI. I'm sure they are west of us too.
Congrats on the sticker, good video as usual..take care, be watching!
Cracker Barrel does a great thanksgiving dinner. Have had it many times.
If you want to get super tender steaks look up marinade in pineapple. It can actually get too tender. Has to be a fresh one, not canned
