The great thing about Evangelion is that they are the same ending and at the same time they are different. The events are the same, but at the end of the movie Shinji is devastated and crying and at the end of the series Shinji is "happy."
They are technically different, the main difference is in the Series, Shinji is able to finally over come all of his trauma and accept himself into Humanity’s new form, in he movie Shinji isn’t able to over his trauma so by the end he is destroyed and it’s implied that because of that Humanity’s merger was incomplete.
A couple of things, Asuka actually was with her mother, The evas need a Soul for the synchronization, Eva 01 had Yui's soul and eva 02 had part of the soul of her mother, the side that loved her. That's the reason why her mom outside the eva went insane, and about shinji, he went to his eva to help asuka but he just couldn't do anything since the eva was covered in solid bakelite, he only could get inside the moment the eva freed itself but it was too late. Since everyone turned into LCL during the events of this movie, even asuka who died during her fight with the Eva Series I want to believe everyone survived, including misato. Even shinji was told as long as people have the will return he can regain their physical form, making this finale kind of a happy ending, since there are no more evas or angels.
Shinji rejected the next step of evolution that was pure bliss where everyone was connected. Shinji was so selfish this idea because of his own selfishness. There was nothing about this being a good ending.
39:49 Pictured here are voice actresses Kotono Mitsuishi, who plays Misato, Megumi Hayashibara, who plays Rei, and Yuko Miyamura, who plays Asuka.😊 The location of the photo shoot was Takeshita Street in Harajuku, which is popular among foreigners.
Shinji and Asuka are NOT the last humans here. The information about all the others is preserved in the sea of LCL. If they choose to realise their individuality again, their AT field will separate them from the sea and reform the body.
@@DenverSenpai Rei literally says it's up to the rest of humanity to choose if they want to reclaim their individuality, and with it their bodies. The conversion to LCL was forced on humanity to begin with by an anti AT field that enveloped the world. Without anti AT field or soul of Lilith (aka Rei) to maintain the current state of humanity its only a matter of time before more and more humans emerge from the ocean of LCL.
In the graphic novel Re-Take Evangelion, at the end people start coming out of the LCL ocean, but Re-Take Evangelion is not canon, despite having a better ending, in my opinion.
@@PeDr0.UY131 there is no other possibility for humanity other than to leave the LCL ocean. Again, this state was forced onto them via the global anti-AT field. Without Rei/Lilith enforcing this state, at least some people would start leaving. Probably the most selfish people at first, people with greatest egos, people who genuinely didn't want to be around others, etc.. And because all of humanity is one in the LCL, they would briefly share the thoughts and feelings of those who leave before the greater being that is humanity shrinks and diminishes. This process would repeat and cascade into most people regaining their self soon after. The only ones who will be left are those who had little to no ego to begin with, those who were apathetic to life and afraid of death. To them this state of being, no matter how greatly diminished it will be, is still better than going back to how things were.
8:13 "Nerv is an independent private organization." No, Nerv is an organization directly under the United Nations. Therefore, Misato and other Nerv staff are considered "international civil servants."😊
Evangelion made the milestone of anime history, influencing so many animes such as Attack on Titan you guys have been watching, where the concept of Titan is similar to the one of Eva. And its story gets slightly similar as it goes by (Of course it's different but you feel Evangelion vibes).
8:32 This scene in which civilians are burned alive with a flamethrower is a homage to the 1971 film "The Battle of Okinawa: A History of the Showa Period" directed by Kihachi Okamoto, which Anno says he has seen at least 100 times. At the end of World War II, American troops landed on Okinawa, the southernmost island of Japan, and 600,000 people, both civilians and soldiers, died.😔 The Japanese army engaged in guerilla warfare, and the U.S. army also sought to protect itself by using flamethrowers to burn to death the people inside any caves it found, regardless of whether they were military personnel or civilians. But you can't blame them, right? That's war after all.😢
40:31 Here, Director Anno does something meta by filming letters of criticism sent by viewers who were dissatisfied with the ending of the TV version of Evangelion, as well as online comments such as "Kill Anno!"😅 ...So, since the original movie version was based on the ending of the TV version, the original viewing order is still... 😬
With the destruction of humanity approaching, Seele sought to use Eve to redeem God and return humanity to Paradise. Gendo Ikari, on the other hand, tried to make Shinji, or humanity, a god.😁
We heard rebuild movies which we will watch in a near future will have more of Gendo's story, We will not be surprised if it turns out he was actually a good guy haha
19:54 Asuka is not imagining her mother... her mother REALLY is in Eva (her soul)... that's how she manages to synchronize. That's the way all the pilots can synchronize, that's why they are chosen. Hadn't they noticed?
I remember watching a video years ago, explaining the ending, I dont remember many details but in short by some philosopher ideas (that was applied in the whole show) the only way that shinji could check that he was in the real world was by checking if theres was pain and negativity in the world and thats he chockes asuka.
It's debatable to call it genocide, I would agree, than no killings were made, everyone merged, and became one, however if to look at it as a wiping out the humanity by not letting humans continue living in the same world they had, then it can be considered as a type of genocide
Interesting order. Honestly I think you apreciate episodes 25 and 26 more after watching the movie. Although watching 25 and 26 without context is also cool and makes the movie ending more abrupt
We found that order to be better eventually, some can disagree of course, but we were glad to have a privilege to watch the movie first, so we could understand last episodes deeper
The red sea of LCL in Evangelion is the same thing that happened to Shinji when he dissolved inside the EVA, basically is the "soul" or mind of a person in quantum state, without defined borders or identity. Basically Rei did liquify all the people of the workd into that soup, and mixed it together, so theirs minds got merged as well. That was the Instrumentality Project, not death.
Agreed, technically no one died, it seems to be a peaceful ending from this point of view, however, everyone stopped existing in the same reality they used to... for someone who didn't want it to happened it is almost equal to death, as long as they were forced to leave their body shells in order to enter a new type of existence
Nerv is just one of many fronts for Seele who also seems to be on par (own) with the UN in regards to funds and resources. Which is pretty cool considering that at its core, it's just some old fools.
@@AlexTapisevic You literally see a bunch of scenes in both versions, like Misato being shot. If you watch the TV ending first, you know that Misato is dying in EoE.
Most of resources we searched advised first to watch the movie, plus the very last episode of the anime was released after the movie, which also helped with our decision to watch the movie first, going forward we didn't regret after we watched episodes 25 and 26, we would probably be extremely confused without movie's context
@@DenverSenpai I'm sure you're going to enjoy the Rebuilds a lot, but yes, it's necessary to take a break because watching the entire Evangelion in one go is quite dense. 🥵

Since you saw them in this order, the other 2 episodes will be more understandable, there is a part where it is mentioned that the souls themselves must be in harmony and avoid conflicts, accept each other in order to continue, that would be the introduction for episodes 25 and 26, the movie covers before and after said episodes, where at the end of everything Shinji decides that everything "go back" as it was before (Movie) although this will have some changes (if they see the Rebuild in the future, it will be more understandable). It was incredible watching the series with you guys, and I'm sorry for my bad English, I speak Spanish.
We made a mistake assuming that movie was released between episodes 24 and 25, the worst part of it, that we both found this disinformation from different resources and didn't fact check :( However, we still enjoyed episodes 25 and 26, I would say the order we watched it with was a very good recommendation anyway. Instead of being confused and completely lost in last 2 episodes, we could use the knowledge we gained from the movie and apply it to the anime ending :)
