I think it's worth mentioning that there are some rare occasions where putting the cable in before or while the drywall is going in is ideal(or the only way aside from racetrack), which is going to depend on the walk through. Such as there is no drop ceiling and there is planned soffits that impede you from getting close to the wall, and no hatches nearby to help get it down the vertical. One occasion was small rooms in an old residential house converted for commercial use, wood construction walls, many fireblocks, no ceiling entries. Got access before the drywall got in and used the opportunity to run the cables, while the drywall was being put in and the mud didn't get on yet. We took off some drywall in some places to adjust our run then put them back. Also went through some areas where soffits were planning to be that would just totally mess us up if we did it after they were put in.

You're absolutely right. There are some rare occasions where the cable should go in first before the drywall goes up. If the building has a sealed ceilings you must cable before the drywall goes up. If your cabling "wood" (2X4) construction rather than "metal" (2X4) construction you must cable first before the drywall goes up. 99% of commercial buildings are "medal". I agree with your statements. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching.

Great info, been doing resi and commercial AV/Net/Security integration for 15 years, we design, wire, sell equipment, install, and service. Owned my own business for 11 years. All your info is great.. BUT, running wire after drywall and grid is really not common or efficient. Way to time consuming. You will need to charge much more in this case to cover labor time. Thanks for taking the time to post this info though.

I beg to differ. Running the cabling after drywall is how I've always done it. In new construction, I can fish the wall as fast as I can terminate two jacks. And like the man said, the drywall guys don't care about your wire at all.

Do you charge per drop or do you figure the bid by an hourly rate?
I read the national average per drop is $200 - $150 for the pull, plus another $50 for termination/wall plate installation. Not including materials.

Great info. One question- for example average how much will you charge for ten drops two cable per drop in commercial building with ceiling tides. In Bay Area California

Thanks for watching. Can't say for your location but it take me, on average about one-and-a half hours per drop. For two drops add 45minuts per location. If you love my videos Please subscribe!! it will help my channel Thanks

Jim great video , I was wondering about your comment with respect to cabling after drywall, I actually don’t do network cabling , so no jacks but I do card access and ip surveillance so most of my work besides the doors ends up above the grid anyways if you wire post dry wall do you try to sneak in before tape and paint , work around it at same time or do you come in after that?

It is much easier to cable after the drywall is installed. I use professional cabling "fishing rods" to cable walls with insulation. We sell these rods on our website www. Cablesupply.com. Pulling cable down the wall once the drywall is complete is not a problem in commercial type of construction. Once you have the cabling done and pulled to the location where you need it the painters can do their job. After to the painting is done put on the faceplate the Jack or any equipment you're using. This is the best way, the fastest way and the neatest way to Cable a drywall.
