Your channel is great, I think it is very much needed. But please, in the future, don't give people false hope every time you find a new diet, or hobby, or work out routine that (takes away your symptoms). You're old enough to know by now that symptoms come and go. Sometimes you feel like a rock star and sometimes you feel like a slug. I don't think it is fair to dangle carrots in front of people who are struggling as if this new fad, or diet or work out routine is going to fix their brain worms. Now if you do Keto for 5 years and have no symptoms for 5 years, feel free.

This is great! I have bipolar and I haven't gone pure keto, but it is still a *very* low sugar diet. It was life-changing. I was able to stop taking 1 mood stabilizer altogether and dropped the other one to a miniscule dosage. I also have schizophrenia and I have been following your progress and am in week 6 on the metabolic ketogenic therapies lifestyle. It is like having a different experience of life without positive or negative symptoms. My antipsychotic medication dealt with the positive symptoms pretty well, but I was being affected by negative symptoms badly and for the last five and a half weeks I haven't experienced any of the negative symptoms. I am stunned by change after 24 years of being on the schizophrenic spectrum.

I've recovered but I've been in an active hightened state I don't want to call hypomania almost constantly the past three years and my sleep has become completely disrupted. I have my second round of blood work coming up with Mark Hyman's Quest Labs project and I'm pretty positive I have a methylation issue but I'm seeing a Functional MD after the blood work is complete. Feeling up isn't a problem but this sleep thing really concerns me. I think one of rhe reasons you may be doing so well is you started all of this being in relatively excellent physical shape. Your personal case is quite exceptional. What's cool is you're pretty meticulous the way you've been focused on the smallest details. You're constantly monitoring, you're on top of the macros, you follow the diet strictly, you're a single person study because it's beyond anecdotal. You're filming your recovery in real time Lauren. You and your husband ate quite amazing.

I would love to meet you and let you talk with my son for some inspiration and encouragement! I love him so much and want him to know that what his brain is experiencing is nothing to be ashamed of, and this is when he will take the first steps toward healing. If the world would look at it with the same eyes as something like diabetes that can be treated or at the least made to be less severe and manageable/survivable, then the stigma of mental illness can be eradicated.

First of all you are a great mom. Second of all there is so much hope for people suffering with mental illness! So many breakthroughs are happening in research about the brain. People are starting to think schizophrenia may be caused by the inflammation of the central nervous system. In the future it may be treated by calming down the inflammation with immunotherapies. Please watch the movie brain on fire it’s about a woman with autoimmune encephalitis and this helped pave the way for a lot more research about how inflammation can impact the brain and that may be where most mental illnesses stem from. Just a bit of hope for you. You’re doing great and your son is so lucky to have you as a parent. He’s going to be okay and he has nothing to be ashamed of❤ people with mental illnesses especially those with schizophrenia are freaking warriors and are amazing 💖

@@user-bn9se1qn4d Thank you for the good wishes. Unfortunately our experience with the mental health system here in Ireland has not been good. Our son with delusional disorder has had 3 involentry hospital admissions and we - his parents - can not face that again, even though he needs it at the moment. The message from the mental health team was, that they are there for our sons, if our sons come to them. As they are lost in their illnesses, with little if any insight that they are ill, it is beyond me how that could happen. Metabolic psychiatry and what it promises for the future has lifted my soul. That parents in the future might not have to travel that very dark road of losing a son or daughter to mental illness, is a lot to be grateful for. I still hold out hope for my sons but as adults - 41 and 42 - there is little I can do. I'm glad your son is getting help ..... it's half the battle. Stay strong.

Usually, for psychiatry patients, especially for psychotic disorder, remission is confirmed, or certified by specialist psychiatrist when there are no symptoms at all of your psychotic disorder for at least 6 months and above. That's the protocol, in my country, not sure of yours.
Even that, patients still need to take maintenance dose (minimum dose of medication)- in remission period to maintain wellness and maintain remission.
Remission (no symptoms at all)- could last from 6 months to years (like 5 years or even 10 years).
Also, changes of medication or lower down medication dosage (psychiatry)- is done after observation and follow up appointments of at least 3 months and above. Our psychiatrist won't lower down our dose in 1 month. It is always done and decided by psychiatrist and specialist, after careful monitoring over at least 3 months & above, and after weighing all aspects and all options. They want to be safe for the benefits of the patients.
Wishing you all the best in this journey of improving your mental health.

Thank you for your videos. So very informative. Have any of your therapists ever mentioned to avoid saying “ My disorder”. Your brain will remember you owning it by always saying “My”… I have been told not to take ownership of the situation I deal with, Again, thank you and your husband, you both are very articulate.

This is huge. I don't work in the research area at CAMH but I do work on a psychosis recovery unit and am super intrigued by this, especially for patients that have residual symptoms. I can't recommend this at this to point to my patients but I am tempted to drop a comment about them checking out your channel at the very least. It breaks my heart when I see patients who have such strong negative symptoms and poor quality of life. I can understand why the signs you're seeing are concerning. It's new. Also, I'm wondering if part of the sleep thing comes with ketosis territory. I know I certainly had that effect with AN. I'm going to think about this and chat with the pharmacist and dietitian to see if they have heard of good results on a broader level or at least research studies.

Hey there. I’m someone who has been hospitalized for psychosis. If you could also encourage trauma competency, cultural awareness, and abuse literacy amongst your colleagues, that would be wonderful! These things were all missing from my medical experience, and were subsequently the keys to my healing-but I had to do all the work on my own.
Thank you for your work and for investing time into gathering lived experience expertise from channels like this one.

@@80islandia thanks for reaching out. It definitely gets covered but sadly a lot of patient histories as similar and I admit I get things mixed up. It's well built into the training we do and continuing education models, but there should definitely be better laid out charting that highlights individual triggers. We cover it on admission, but patients are bombarded with questions and often don't get a chance to answer at another opportunity. I'm so sorry you've been treated poorly.

We have days when we feel low and days when we feel anxious or excitable. Also many of us have trouble sleeping. I often stay awake for hours at night if I don’t take a sleeping aide.

The sleep issue is quite common. Maybe you should try to up your fat along with your calories? Elisabeth Bright talks about how straight up fat can help to blunt cortisol and help you sleep better. And undereating is triggering a stress response. Whenever I lay awake in the evening I go to my fridge and just eat a thick slice lf butter. And wouldn't you know I fall asleep within 10 min. The fat is just so relaxing.

its interesting to learn about keto. I will never try it, I heard it can be hard to comply with and I trust my p.doc and other drs I am friends with enough to not take chances with fiddling with my meds. I hope you get well enough to return to school and succeed, having something to aim for could help you comply with the diet. I could have returned to school at your age and didn't and I regret it. I am glad to see you quit drinking, I had heard once you are diagnosed you should never drink again and quitting has many benefits. best of luck.

I am also cautious about celebrating because it does feel too good to be true. But what a concept, to not have all that worry and guilt of passing down this suffering to our kids, by having a means of potentially preventing it. Thank you so much for taking us along your journey ❤

She just lowered her meds. It hasn't even been a month. One can only be cautiously optimistic right now. At best. She is self-reporting. A doctor is not weighing in. She's making money from this. There is bias and there is the fact that she could be just wanting it to work because she wanted to reduce meds. There is no way to tell if she is being truthful with herself or others which is why I'm not a fan of her reporting on this herself to a group of people who are sick, have fewer financial resources than her, and may just try this and get hurt following a patient's reporting. It's been a month and a half. That's not remission yet.

I get that every time I am feeling better, beacuse I have a thought that now I am feeling myself and good, lets do everything I love and can do 😊

(no its not that I eat more or move less - unfortunately it somehow alters my metabolism). With more education, people are having spontaneous remission of all kinds of mental illnesses. My friend was on Disability for depression and had in total 39 medications over 40 years of hell. A forward thinking doctor checked her zinc levels which were low. Upon treatment she had immediate recovery which has lasted for years. The only thing she had to work through was the incredible trauma of 40 years gone and the idea she was "mentally ill" when it was just metabolic. It took a LOT of courage for her face her life afterwards, but she is doing it. Probably ALL "mental illness" are really just a feature of biology/ecology/evolution/chemistry etc. Step away from the diagnosis when you are ready.
