I'm the "kid" in the video… I can't begin to explain what a thrill it was every night to play in Kim's band. It doesn't get much heavier than Kim and Peter. Monster talents!!! And both sweet, lovely guys that made me feel very welcome even though I was an awkward geeked out 19 yr old. Lou Molino on drums sounds amazing. This was actually kind of a rough gig for the band, because we had only played a couple of live shows together before doing a live telecast (this video). In hindsight I wish we had filmed this after being on the road for a few months, because nothing gels a band together like that. I have to say though that this performance sounds great, and it's a testament to how good Kim and crew are. "All We Are" is a standout and Kim's emotional guitar solo at the end says everything you need to know about how to play it like you mean it. Thank you so much again for uploading this show!!!!!!!
I saw you guys in Winnipeg back in 89 for this tour and it remains a stand out of any concert I've seen (before and after). Over the years people would call "Bullshit!" when I told them Kim opened the show with the three members of the band (besides him) playing on 3 separate drum kits - and not only were they incredible on their respective instruments, but awesome drummers as well! Now at least this vid's on RUclips to vindicate me! Haha! Must have been a sound man's dream having 3 kits mic'd on stage. :) I just saw Kim and the boys again this past weekend and it was phenomenal!. Keep on rocking' Greg! You've down so incredibly well for yourself!
Amazing years later I'm watching vids from your studio, plugins etc. Your work with Adam Lambert, Adele or was it Katy etc. Seeing Lou Molino with Trevor Rabin on Anerley Rd. video. Still don't know how Kim got Lou to play. What a treat that must have been.. How time flies. Congrats on all your success.
An awkward geeked out kid? Ok, maybe, yeah sure, just don't forget that your a Canadian legend, why? who plays and records with Kim Mitchell. Your truly amazing.
My friends always laughed at go for a soda, and never really gave much more of a listen to his other tracks. I remember showing them battle scar, and they see Kims name and start to laugh. Oh well they miss out on some good tunes
Very true - great sound, great playing. Ironically, Kim says he did not like that guitar...but everyone else including the band and soundman did. It was assembled using parts from various other guitars.
oh shit. . I was there! a girlfriend's delinquent cousin got us in because he was the cocaine dealer to the Kee's door staff security. . The Kim Mitchell Band was so tight and talented on stage. . a really great show. . we had no clue what we were in for(!) I separated myself from the beer drinking hoser fans, by watching close over the stage from an empty balcony off to the side. . my chance to take it in, in awe. . the moments in between songs have been edited out. . but for example, the drummer played and sang Rick Astley's 'never gonna give you up' solo under the spotlight. . when I hear Kim's guitar it reminds me of a possibly unspoken tradition of Canadian guitar riffs that echo/remind us of Canadian lakes, sky and wilderness :) a super fun curveball entrance with the drum intro :) and if I'm not mistaken, these guys are pretty damn sober. . beautiful natural vibes on stage . I'm still impressed by the musicianship and vocals coming through. . thank-you to whoever posted this. . a real gem to see again xo
Kim can sure shred with the best of them! I love watching these older concerts. Everyone is is dancing and having a great time! Not one cell phone to be seen. Better times!
Peter playing Bass, Drums, Guitar, Taurus pedals AND killing it on vocals! Plus the keys guy playing drums and Bass as well, at only 19! Wow what a band! Love Kim!! So so so many great songs!

I was a mullet wearing teen in 1988 driving a used 1983 camaro Berlinetta. Max Webster, Rush, and Kim Mitchell were constantly playing in that car. I'm older and gray, wearing a suit, and driving a Benz now but Kim Mitchell and Rush are still constantly playing in my car.
The best KM concert on RUclips to date! Absolutely Love it! Go for a soda, is on his live album! I've been to the KEE a couple years back for a Big Wreck show. Love the rafters in that place on Muskoka lake 🤘😬🇨🇦
G Wells actually posting! AWESOME! First couple of times I listened to Rockland Wonderland, standing between subwoofers. I caught my head bobbing. Looked at the video, there's this girl bobbing her head identically. I just laughed!! Damn good concert. If I hadn't loved the Trailer Park Boys so much. Wouldn't have stumbled across you guys.19 years old. I would had been nervous as hell! I still listen to this concert. And have turned many friends onto it.Damn how quick time goes!!! Thanks for posting.
Remember being in the 3rd row and when the beginning bass riff of "ROCKLAND " started, the volume and frequency had my whole body, inside and out vibrating uncontrollably! The greatest concert moment of my life Kim and Pete 🇨🇦🎸🎸💥💥💥👋🏻😎
has any band ever started a gig like that? wow!!! Canada can you move to the Uk please lol - i just love so many bands...Rush were always my favourite band.
You don't see great performances like this nowadays. What great musicians. I remember when I was in my twenties in the seventies, we used to listen to Max Webster on our fantastic stereos...full blast. There was nothing better. I was fortunate to grow at a magical time where music was everything and something new everyday. What has happened to great bands of this caliber? Todays music / performances don't even come close!!!
An exciting moment for me when Max Webster - let’s give that name the respect they deserve - played in Trenton one night. I want to say between 78 to 79. The bar was ‘Pandora’s Box’ or just the Box. A popular bar, still it was still considered quite a coup to snag these guys to come to such a humble location. Max Webster was very strong and urgent then. I never saw so many people crammed in there. Kim actually had people sitting at his feet, but he took the crowd very well and adjusted on the fly very well. After the show I stopped in at a Highway restaurant/ gas station on the 401 to grab a sandwich and to my dismay in walks Kim and the bass player back then. I asked as politely as I could if I could do a quick photo of us and Kim was excellent about it. I can’t even remember why I had this small Kodak camera on me. I still have that photo. Kim was holding a sandwich and ‘ A SODA ‘ !!! Way long before he even thought about that song. Well I can assure you we both have aged a little since then. I’m an old fat guy now with about 1 or 2 more hairs than Kim. But he has 150 pounds less weight than me, so he wins. I should dig that photo up and send it to him or his ‘people’ and ask him to sign it for me.
@PeterByker thanks, they were. Pye Dubois wrote such good lyrics for them. I remember blasting along the Gardner Expressway in Toronto with Max Webster at full tilt in the summer evenings. Great memories.
I was there that night … we were up stairs .. people were mad they only played for 50 minutes … then packed up and left …. The local back up band came on after ……
Okay....can someone explain to me why songs like Battle Scar & All We Are were not #1 Hits all over the world or at least in North America?!?! The songs, the musicianship and the singing talents are all over the top Spectacular!! Kim is an Outstanding Guitar player but he is too humble to admit it. Don't worry Kim, everyone knows how Great you are, one of the Best!!!! Hail to Peter Fredette!!
Thanks for posting this. This is GREAT!! I stumbled upon Kim Mitchell by watching the Trailer Park Boys. One of their episodes, in the woods camping. Bubbles is peeing in a bush and Ricky says something like lets get drunk and listen to some Mitchell. I could hear the song playing in the background, so I rewound the scene and paused it on the 8-track that Ricky was playing. There was the name Kim Mitchell. I think a lot of people are missing out if they haven't seen Kim or watched this concert. Again, thanks for posting this.
Thanks a million for posting this. I have looked for this very broadcast for years. I am a drummer, and I loved the idea of this (starting with a 3 drummer solo warm-up!!) . You are the best for doing this. Awesome. Can't wait to see how many views it gets!
Finally, a live KMB show with a proper as in professional audio mix of the performance that reflects and makes manifest a showcase of what’s actually going on up on stage.
Hey kid, Don't cut yourself short. You were pretty awesome yourself. Kim has blessed us with a lot of talent along with just about every emotion you could imagine and always with the right amount of humor along his way. Kudos to a Master👍🍻✌️
Thank-you very much for posting this! I remember watching this on Muchmusic all those years ago, but also seeing the tour for that album,Rockland, but I've seen Kim and The Max machine every time they came to town, the first opening for Rush in '77, but Kim always put on a great show and always had great players with him...wow this is 30+ years old?...where did the time go?
I saw this tour a couple of months later at the Orpheum in Vancouver. By that time Lou Molino had departed and Greg Critchley was playing drums. The 3 drummer lead off was still going on (an all time great way to open a show, I must say!) but they kicked into Battle Scar, rather than That's The Hold. I do recall seeing this on MuchMusic before I saw the Vancouver show, so it would have been aired very shortly after being filmed. I have a VHS recording from Much kicking around somewhere, along with my green Rockland Wonderland tour shirt. I kept a half an eye on Greg Wells career over the years and was glad to see he has gone on to have a great career in music. This was one of my favorite shows, thanks for digging it up and posting.
What an audience...so alive, having fun, happy...that's Canadian!...even though I'm 69 now there were such awesome-looking babes in that audience, yow!
Yes, did a fine job. But the chap he replaced, Paul DeLong really kicked this band like no other...though current man in that hotseat, Dave Langguth does a very fine job.
Greg Critchley ended up finishing this tour and continued for a number of years. Liked his playing as well. Lou is a beast though!! … and those Milestones sounded wicked!!
I saw this tour in Kamloops with Pursuit of Happiness opening... I was so used to “big” concerts like Van Halen, U2, Pink Floyd etc... I loved Kim But was prepared for a “quaint” show. It was anything but. Kim definitely holds his own. Amazing performance! Rockland wonderland belonged in a stadium :-)
Look at all those happy people! I went many times in these days to see this band. Still do if I’m lucky enough to hit one close by. Come to London again!
At his peak. Always was/is an awesome show. We're lucky to have him. He was always a great guitar player and it's sad no one ever recognized him for it.
My reference to the kid is not referring to the kid referred in the video. It pertained to the younger generation. No disrespect intended. The younger generation can learn from those who cut the steps they walk on.
Sad thing is..most of those people were too drunk to really appreciate his talent (not judging). He is one of Canada's most underrated musicians. If ever there was a Canadian music hall of fame....this guy would be there. Thanks Kim for all your music...can't tell you how many times my wife and I fell in love to your music..

WOW! ..PRETTY COOL, to come across this, live time capsule. I WAS AT THIS SHOW! Ha! awesome...Long story getting there that day, nearly missed it with broken down cars on the 400, 2 within 15 minutes apart traveling... but made it by 8:30. : ) Back patio with the crowd of boats, the people, what a party! LOTS of beer, good cheer and well, the talent Kim, Peter, drums (and the kid on the keys lol) come on, you can play a pretty awesome beat on the drums too bud! THE KEE, is the place in the summer, in CANADA, Yeah! Every summer for years, at least twice a summer, we were there! Love it! Thanks for the great memories Kim, all of you! You all rocked!
This is GREAT! It's been so long since I've heard any of these songs. I moved almost 30 years ago and lost a good portion of my cd collection. I think I may have this on vinyl somewhere but, alas, I haven't had a system to play them on in ab as long as I left all of that back in Maryland.
I saw this tour in Halifax. It was his follow-up Aural Fixations that I wish I had seen as that's my favourite KM album. This was such a great show. I saw him later in Toronto and Hamilton and both were excellent shows.
This is Kim Mitchell and band at their absolute peak. I saw them around the same time in Ottawa and they just killed it. They are as Canadian as poutine and beaver tails and Tim Hortons.
Kim wasn't a huge success and maybe his lyrics where not deep poetic masterpieces but the man has talent and plays his soul straight out. You get what you see with Kim. In my eyes he has a big spot on rock in my eyes
a fun show... i scanned the crowd shots closely to see if i could spot anyone there i knew back in the day - but no. i'd bet there was somebody there i used to know. i'm from that "region" ... Orillia, to be exact. was a Mitchell/Max fan even from early high school, when Webster played a "dance". but by '89, i had moved to Ottawa, where i did see Kim on that tour. and a few more times, even with the re-formed Max Webster. great video... thanks for posting... so many 80's mullets and mustaches... and rock'n'roll cuties!
i was there that night , great drum solo ,also they did not play very long on the stage , the back up band came back on that night ..... sort of disappointing !!!!!
Kevy Wevys .... thanks for this upgraded version .... very nice! Not a better band to see LIVE, especially at The Kee. I've STILL got my *signed* 1980's OPP cap sitting here on my shelf!

Kim Mitchell doesn’t get enough credit for his great guitar work man.

he is something else eh. His voice shines in this tune
Kim Mitchell is one of Canada's greatest musical treasures!

This is GREAT! It's been so long since I've heard any of these songs. I moved almost 30 years ago and lost a good portion of my cd collection. I think I may have this on vinyl somewhere but, alas, I haven't had a system to play them on in ab as long as I left all of that back in Maryland.
I remember tuning in for this Big Ticket Special like it was yesterday. Great show!
Peter Fredette is a freaking musical genius
I saw this tour in Halifax. It was his follow-up Aural Fixations that I wish I had seen as that's my favourite KM album. This was such a great show. I saw him later in Toronto and Hamilton and both were excellent shows.
I love that Peter Fredette mouths "that's right", like he knows he's good.
fundirector_ Peter gives me chills.
Thanks for posting this!
Great quality.
Saw this tour in 1989 in Victoria at the Royal Theatre. So good.
Lou was a killer drummer!
This is Kim Mitchell and band at their absolute peak. I saw them around the same time in Ottawa and they just killed it. They are as Canadian as poutine and beaver tails and Tim Hortons.
Kim Mitchell and the band always put on a killer' show. Canada proud!!
Kim wasn't a huge success and maybe his lyrics where not deep poetic masterpieces but the man has talent and plays his soul straight out. You get what you see with Kim. In my eyes he has a big spot on rock in my eyes
Man life was good back then wasn't it !
have this on video from Much Music...recorded twice...songs are not in the same order, but so glad this out there...miss the off the show bits
Great to see this video I was there great show so long ago Thxs Megs Ont
a fun show... i scanned the crowd shots closely to see if i could spot anyone there i knew back in the day - but no. i'd bet there was somebody there i used to know. i'm from that "region" ...
Thanks for posting. So many years later still awesome
Kims tone man, KILLER. this is a great performance too, world class ROCK.
i was there that night , great drum solo ,also they did not play very long on the stage , the back up band came back on that night ..... sort of disappointing !!!!!
All We Are. One of the greatest love songs ever written.
A legend. Simple as that.
Everyone enjoying themselves, and for a few hours the powers that be who miss-manage everything are 'not in power'.
LOL around 24:27 someone flips that guys hat bill upwards in the crowd and then they point to Kim Mitchell on stage lmfao that’s funny as hell
Love ❤ Thank you for sharing !!!
I can’t believe I haven’t seen this before. Wow! Fuck me Reg! That guitar sounds incredible!
Battlescar! What an awesome track!
Its epic
Best I Never Had?
Come a long way.
Kevy Wevys .... thanks for this upgraded version .... very nice!
Not a better band to see LIVE, especially at The Kee.
I've STILL got my *signed* 1980's OPP cap sitting here on my shelf!
I have been puzzled as to why Peter Fredette never fronted his own band . The guy could do it all, still does for that matter .
Maybe he's shy or too humble to be a frontman? Always been a big fan of his singing.
THANK YOU
Awesome!
Mint!
