My mom passed away last thursday. I have waited almost a week to listen to "all we are" because I didn't want to hear it until I was ready. I identified her for the cremation today, and on the way home I finally had the courage to put it on, the live version with the incredible solo and the soft keyboard outtro. That was finally when I let mom go. I remember coming home from school when I was young, maybe 8-12, and hearing this song from around the corner, many times. Mom would vacuum and crank it over the vacuum with the front door open. I'll miss her, and this song will always be the strongest link we shared.
I could listen to All We Are all day long. As a trained vocalist myself, this song should be taught to any person, but especially a Male vocalist, on how to sing properly without killing your vocal chords.
I remember, watching "The Kim Mitchell Band", at the " Kingswood Music Theatre", at " Canada's Wonderland" in the 80's, for like the 12th time, seeing them live. When they played this song. 15,000 Bic lighters lite up, and the ground, vibrated from the keyboards, and how loud it was.Pure Heaven!! Kim, and Peter, are pure Canadian Gold!!
So many great memories, Thank-you Kim!! From school gyms as Max Webster to Canada's Wonderland and New Years' Eve at Maple Leaf Gardens opening for Rush---RIP Neil Peart.
He and his band just did a free concert in Grade Prairie AB and they are as good now as they were when I first heard them way back in the beginning of their career! Rock on Kim
Kim, I don’t recognize you without long hair..there’s wigs you know..but I’ve got a beer belly..so there’s that!..😆 But seriously Peter is seriously underrated as a front-man to this day! Love your music. Takes me back to a different time!☮️
When I first heard "All we are"'. I said wholly S..T Kim sings that high and beautiful. Without knowing it was Peter singing. Sorry Kim but I've been to many of your concerts and we all had a blast. And you always have great drummers too. Love you guys. All the Best
The best version of that song is on the "I Am A Wild Party" Live Record. stellar live version. I think Kim was hinting towards that. The album version is good too but Peter's vocals and Kim's awesome guitar playing really shine in the Live Cut. Cheers!
I remember seeing Kim at the First hotel in Orillia with his first solo band and Peter played guitar Halfway through the show the bass player had to leave because his wife was having a baby and Peter took over the bass they finished the night playing a whole set of Webster tunes it was a fantastic night
I saw the video for "All We Are" on some late night music show back in the mid Eighties. I have no idea what show it was (not MTV or Night Tracks) but I absolutely loved the song and went out and bought the album the next time I went record shopping.
I remember buying an album from a used record store of a Canadian band called Butler. Fredette's band before teaming with Mitchell. Can't find any tracks from it online. Anyone else ever hear about it? It had a sort of new wave feel to it.
All We Are is my wife and my favourite Kim Michell, Peter Ferdette song of all and we are longtime fans of Kim Mitchell, Max Webster sincerely, Maurice n’Bonnie
I just realized the dual-vocal nature of this song (obviously, I'm not a "major" MW/KM fan); their vocals match, very well.....and how PF is able to conjure the "growl", in the 2nd chorus (studio cut), is a sign of a great vocal talent; to be able to growl, and to know WHEN to do it......
Your Music show is great, And you're obviously a fan! And yes, "All We Are" produces tears and goose-bumps, particularly live... I swear, gave me chills every time, and you look around, and everyone else is getting the vibe too, it was awesome! This song is one of the high points of his show, and Fredette's solo is the high point of the song.
Peter played electric rhythm, acoustic, bass, and keyboards depending on the show, while being an amazing singer too, multi-talented and great accompaniment for Kim.
AND can carry a tune😉 he's a stupendous musician (coming from a drooling, use to be a longhair rock drummer from hell)......now a drooling, short hair airbrush artist from hell
This isn't the only interview in which Kim says that there is a live version of "All We Are" on The Big Fantasize, yet it isn't on the album - disappointing.

So very sorry for your loss. Your mom had great taste! All we are is such a powerful & beautiful song. May she rest in peace.
God bless you. Kim was also a huge part of my life . He is so good and never got the recognition he so deserved .
Kim and Peter are pure magic together!!
I saw Kim open for BTO in Timmins...Akimbo just out
I remember being so blown away by Peter's live vocal.......
Peter Fredette has long been one of my favourite vocalists, and All We Are is my favourite Kim Mitchell tune thanks to that fantastic vocal

fantastic point!
This may be a dumb question, but are Peter’s vocals his head voice?
@@foxyroxytm absolutely not. dude does geddys part in battle scar with no falsetto
@@TommyWashow ya, and hitting those kind of notes "natural", is asking for a hernia...(or an aneurysm!!)......
Saw this song performed in the 80s and the 20s. Always magic.

👍 One in a million voice in the 80's
Literally one of the best Canadian rock songs ever written and performed by Canadian icons. Who doesn't get teary-eyd listening to this?
So many great memories, Thank-you Kim!! From school gyms as Max Webster to Canada's Wonderland and New Years' Eve at Maple Leaf Gardens opening for Rush---RIP Neil Peart.
Awesome yrs listening to those 2
He and his band just did a free concert in Grade Prairie AB and they are as good now as they were when I first heard them way back in the beginning of their career! Rock on Kim
Peter is a beast. They’re perfect together.

The Big Fantasize is a wonderful album. The 4 LIVE tracks at the end ( on CD ) are truly bonus cuts.
It absolutely is, and they absolutely are.
Been super fan of the song for decades, still routinely listen to it.
One of my all time favorite songs ever!!! Haunts me every time!! Peter's vocals are deadly badass awesome!!
Oh Canada 🍁

I have been fortunate enough to play with Peter many times. A class act and great muscician.
Oshawa Civic center a long long time ago! Peter was awesome!
Man we getting old!
Is that the night some guy threw golf balls at the opener? I think it was Nash the slash.
Love kim in concert

It does sound as good today as it did back in the day
Cool interview. And I LOVE that song!!! I'm gonna go play it now!
My favorite Kim Mitchell moment was a concert in 1988 at the C.N.E. open seating on a freshly sodded lawn and every piece of sod was airborne.
I saw the video for "All We Are" on some late night music show back in the mid Eighties. I have no idea what show it was (not MTV or Night Tracks) but I absolutely loved the song and went out and bought the album the next time I went record shopping.
bought that album because of this song...... its a staple in my musical world

Great song . Even the Americans have to admit this one !

always said that song is good Stairway to Heaven! AMAZING!!!
❤Peter❤

He's a pretty amazing drummer too!
I did not know he also played drums, but I am not particularly surprised. I’m sure he is fantastic.
When his voice cracks he sounds like Super Dave.
So these guys last night absolutely
Bass player? Peter Fredette plays bass, rhythm guitar, keyboards, drums.....
AND can carry a tune😉 he's a stupendous musician (coming from a drooling, use to be a longhair rock drummer from hell)......now a drooling, short hair airbrush artist from hell

Might as well go for a soda.
Has legs , such a tracks thing to say lol.
His vocals are better than kim mitchell's
No kidding - Kim would even admit that.
