What is the difference between a *Man* and a *Parasite* ?
A man builds, a parasite asks: "Where is my share?"
A man creates, a parasite says: "What will the neighbours think?"
A man invents, a parasite says: "Watch out, or you might tread on the toes of GOD..."

One word: atmosphere. I think this was the first game I've ever played where the enemies respawned when you weren't around. I waited 4 years for this game to come out as I had been following the development from the first snippets as they were released. It was brilliant then and it is brilliant now. One of the creators mentioned there are multiple AI's working simultaneously and in order to win, you must manipulate them to your advantage or you're not playing the game properly.

What made this game great was explained by the Dev's themselves. They molded the story to match the environment because the environment of Rapture was the main character. This approach in world building really set them apart with just how detailed their world was, it felt tangible and real. It genuinely felt like a place people could work and live in and its history throughout Rapture's lifetime could be seen with every scar and collapsed stairway.

Razor Prime, Dishonored really is a beautiful game but I wouldn't put it ahead of bioshock. Dishonored itself has clearly taken quite a few liberties from Bioshock. But like the video said, Bioshock has the most amazing atmosphere and story. The execution of the game's style is unprecedented. The game play was great too and still holds up well to today. This game wasn’t just important because it made a compelling story, but it brought the idea of making games that had a message, a theme, that could be actually be applied and be very relevant to our society. Also it showed just how much a games atmosphere could truly add to the immersion and what the capabilities of a video game could do. Bioshock couldn’t have worked as well as a movie or book bc the atmosphere will never be as perfect as it is in a video game

"No gods or kings. Only man."
I find this statement very interesting considering the state of Rapture or any other civilization that claims to adhere to it. Rapture ended in chaos. Many places in the world today are reigned by chaos. All these places have one thing in common, as far as I understand it: people made it so. I'm not saying claiming to follow a religion would have away with these issues; after all, God wouldn't be there to control them in person, so it'd still be left up to if the people believe in the ones who are set to lead them. Believers have a tendency to claim they know God's will for their society, but refuses to acknowledge that agency and free will is a human right for many and should be one for all, something I believe God respects fully. Whether people believe he exists or not, we have a way with using scare-tactics to put ourselves above others because somehow it's about God but it's really about what we want.
There, senseless tirade over and done with.

The best way for me to discribe how much I love Bioshock is for me to first express how much I hate playing first person perspective game. I have no problems if other people like them but to me they have always been the worst piece of crap I've played. No matter how often I gave them a chance I couldn't get into them. I just cant connect to not seeing my character move in the environment. But then there was Bioshock, which was yet another fpp game I was giving a chance and just the opening managed to do something no other fpp game managed: It totally drew me into the world and I didn't feel the discomfort I usually feel playing fpp at all. I just had to continue to see where all this was leading too. And boy was it a great ride.
I still cannot get into many fpp games, which is kind of a pity because it appears I'm missing out on some great games. But dammit Bioshock is a whole different piece of gaming/art and I loved every second of it.

I recently replayed Bioshock 1 again, and I have to say I was floored by how smooth it felt and how it has held up.
I haven't played it since its released back on 360 years ago and I remember as a teen feeling like it slogged on and had a sour aftertaste with it but now that I'm older and really re-lived it again I feel it was a masterpiece of its time. I can see now why its spawned a series. And honestly I feel that Bioshock 1 is the best in the Trilogy.

After learning about all the stuff they cut out and how good it could have been it just makes me upset even thinking about the game. Depends on what you care about most, I enjoyed the gunplay far more in Infinite and that's what you're doing most of the time. The visuals alone in Infinite are a sight to behold while playing especially on PC. I went into the game pretty much blind which is why I think I ended up liking it as much as I did. In a situation like yours I think the best option is just go in with low expectations so you might be surprised.

    • @zackmooretalks

Kra88ypa77yJR Infinite is the king of Bioshock for myself. The visuals alone are a sight to behold, and the narrative and love you'll grow to feel for Booker and Elizabeth is something you won't forget anytime soon. It's fast-paced, intense, violent, original, beautiful, and as complete of a single player game you could hope to experience. It's a completely different vibe and ambience than the original Bioshock, but that is in no way saying it's inferior. I've played through Bioshock 1 & 2 around 6 times each, and I've played through Infinite 13 times. Just saying lol. Absolutely play it as soon as humanly possible.

1 probably has best story, Infinite probably best gameplay (the 2 weapons is a pain tho). I finished in two days without rushing, so if you can start a game and not immediately need 100% you could always give it a go on easy (i'm not saying you're not skill,ed, i have no clue, just that it makes it go faster without rushing) and see if you like it.
However if you must 100% every game you start, then i can understand hesitance.

So infinite ending here we go:
U destroy the siphon that limits Elizabeth powers. She (after the destruction) then knows everything behind every door . U get teleported to RAPTURE but not the rapture you know. Then you go to the surface but ACTUALLY NOT ANY SURFACE u enter the doorway to every universe. If u go back and play the ending u will see that the sea is surrounded by clouds (meaning u are not on just an ocean). U enter the doorway to the past where Booker refused the baptism and became the booker we know and love. But in ANOTHER UNIVERSE he took the baptism and changed his name to Comstock that we all know and hate.
You see in the beginning of the game booker was drunk and not really sober so the Luteces teleported our booker to Colombia's universe. But waaaaaay waaaay waaaaaaaay before the incident of Bioshock infinite, comstock used the Luteces device to teleport to another universes which made him age faster and become weaker. In one specific universe. (Our beloved booker universe that we all know an love) booker became in debt by comstock so comstock told him u bring me anna (bookers daughter) ill wipe ur debt.. and booker did. But then! Booker ran to COMSTOCK and told him the deals off bring back my daughter and BOTH WERE STRUGGLING TO TAKE ANNA THE LUTECES THEN TAKE ANNA AND WHILE THE TEAR IS CLOSING HER FINGER GETS CUT OFF..
      And after the incident
thats where booker became so drunk and alcoholic that he forgot about it so the Luteces intervened and brought booker to colombia's universe (comstock's universe AKA BOOKER) and bookers memory started to fade and collide with His Columbia's universe (comstock) so memories of him from the original universe started to fade away and new un existent ones from his original universe started to show up.. booker then knows about it in the end. And knows THAT ANNA WAS RENAMED TO ELIZABETH!!
AND IN THE END. HE DIED BEFORE HE TOOK THE BAPTISM SO HIS COMSTOCK PERSON NEVER BORNS IN ANY UNIVERSE
And actually it was all an experiment by the Luteces

Bioshock 2 was ok but not my favourite. It seemed like it was just a chore, go to a level complete the mission save the little sisters do there little mini game or harvest them and it got really repetitive until the end. The DLC for bioshock 2 was awesome though, the story was fantastic. Bioshock Infinite was my second favourite because it was so different and the characters were great and the story and gameplay was amazing. Bioshock 1 was creepy as hell but I loved it better than 2.

Too bad Infinite was the greatest flaw in video game development history. An incredibly awful game. Instead of being a fun game it's more interested in trying to come across as intelligent, were as every 12 year old is sitting there drooling over how ''awesome'' the ending is, while everyone over 20 with a tiny bit of common sense just thought.. ''.. are you fucking kidding me with this shit?!'' And regardless of how they must have spent most of the development on that M. Night Shyamalan ending which turned to shit, they obviously spent a lot of time on the scenery and environment, but then have you spend 95% of the game shooting on hordes of enemies, which makes it feel like any shooter out there. Bioshock 1 and 2 had pretty good trailers, but turned out to be ground breaking games, while Infinite had incredible trailers, it turned out to be a shit show of casual nonsense. And then those who enjoyed it tell me: ''well, you obviously didn't understand the story..'' which makes me almost pull my hair out. I understood it, and it was an awful ending tailored towards casual player, and that's why you enjoyed it. It's an FPS blockbuster cliche that broke the fan base of the first two games and welcomed newcomers to a revolutionary defect in video game history. But to be honest, I would have enjoyed the game if it simply didn't have ''Bioshock'' in the title, that's what all my arguments are for, and it could have been an alright game with a cliche ending, if it would have simply been named as'' Infinite.''

Windsbee Spoken with the same holier than thou tone of snobs. Try this William Blake quote on for size if you want to understand why Infinite got it's title: "If the doors of man's perceptions were cleansed, he would see all things as they are: infinite." FYI, I'm over 40 and had less trouble than your overtaxed intellect did in keeping up.

just because it's different doesn't mean it's automatically "bad." the style and characters and story drew me into Infinite, while the first two games were more of a desperate struggle to survive. both enjoyable, just for different reasons. casual? sure, but again that's not strictly "bad." it's not like 1 and 2 were some exclusive gaming experience to other shooters, it just had unique atmosphere. i will agree that the whole "alternate universe" ending was very unecessary. its like Assassin's Creed: their time periods and gameplay are interesting enough, it doesn't NEED this whole sci-fi thing going on.

Johnathon Haney - Did I ever question why Infinite was named ''Infinite''? I argued that that name ''Bioshock'' in the title makes no sense because the game has nothing to do with the previous games in the series, except the multiverse ''always a man, always a lighthouse'' theory, resulting in people being disappointed. Did you really reply to the right comment? Aaand once again another Infinite drooler who argues that everyone who dislikes the game must not have gotten the story straight, like I argued in my very first comment. Good job proving my point, if this even was the right post you wanted to reply to, because your first argument makes zero sense, so I am confused as to what you really are trying to achieve here.

Windsbee Nothing to do with the previous games...except for the part about an isolated city-state, pseudo-scientific magic powers, a hostile populace, self-indulgent propaganda that hides the truth, a reclusive founder pushing a morally bankrupt ideology and advanced anachronistic technologies used to fuel oppression that eventually leads to social breakdown and collapse. Sure sounds like Bioshock to me, numbnuts. You wanna try again? Oh and my achievement is making you look like the thoughtless twit you come off as.

The original Bioshock was way overrated for me. Fun and atmospheric but overrated.
    1. You could kill a simple splicer at the beginning of the game with your machine gun with just a few shots but by the end of the game you need to empty an entire clip into a splicer to do the same without any indication that the late game splicers are more durable.
    2. You can light a puddle of gasoline on fire, wait for it to burn out and then light it up again...
    3. Andrew Ryan spent most of a level trying to keep you away and when you catch up to him he has the ability to control you but makes you kill him instead of yourself. Seems like drama for the sake of drama.
4.They used a female splicer model for Tenenbaum instead of a unique model which felt like the developers were trying to cut corners.
    5. If you zap an enemy with electrobolt directly it does zero damage but when you zap the pool of water they're standing in it does massive damage?!
    6. Enemy splicer dialogue seemed overacted and immature at times. It was much better in Bioshock 2.
    7. Enemy splicer models seemed cartoonish with their overly large heads. Again it was better in Bioshock 2.

rlam905 Objection to 3...Ryan did what he did to accomplish two things. First, he wanted to die, as his dream was nothing but a city of ruins. Second, he did it in a way to convince himself that he wasn't the slave to his paranoia, ego and power thirst he actually was. It was a fittingly pathetic ending to a thoroughly broken man.

      3) That was more of a way for him to show Jack we has indeed mind controlled. Definitive proof, so to speak.
      4) So? You never really do get an in-depth look at her, so it doesn't matter.
      5) It does a bit of damage, however it's still meant as a stun ability, not damage dealing one (except for water)
