    This movie is like Man of Steel, Iron Man 3, and Age of Ultron, in the aspect that it gets so much hate for some of the stupidest reasons.

    • @spencerbentley3653
      @spencerbentley3653 8 лет назад +36

      +Giant Squid I agree with you for iron man 3 and age of Ultron but i hated man of steel.

    • @jackpark9463
      @jackpark9463 8 лет назад +38

      Man of steel got its hate for the major problems, like the stunted story telling techniques, whilst iron man 3 got unnecessary hate for a few plot holes. A lot of great films have plot holes, like Star Wars, terminator 2 and the first Iron Man.

    • @spencerbentley3653

      I'm hearing ya but I don't like man of steel

    • @UPtheIRONS52
      @UPtheIRONS52 8 лет назад +34

      +Jack Park One of the things that MoS got a lot of hate for was the fact that Superman
      and Zod destroyed a ton of stuff during their fight, which is stupid because he HAD to do that, otherwise Zod would've gone on a rampage to wipe out humanity.

    • @jackpark9463
      @jackpark9463 8 лет назад +9

      Giant Squid Superman had a problem with killing Zod, even after sending a bomb made from his little pod to another dimension to kill a ship full of other murderous. Also, using 9/11 imagery to bring a sense of hope is just mislead. Also, it was within Superman's power to draw Zod away from the city full of innocent people, but he didn't. There was also no tension in the fight because it was them punching each other over and over again, sustaining no injuries, which isn't exciting for an action film. To use a comparison involving super powered beings in another, better comic action film: In the winter soldier, Cap and Bucky both sustain injuries from there fight because there evenly matched, and it makes sense physically because even strengthened flesh and tissue would break under too much pressure. In man of steel, they punch, and punch, and punch, and punch, and then out of nowhere, without setting up any character ark involving the necessity of murder to save the world, Superman: SPOILERS
      Kills Zod in an over the top and overly violent way which comes off goofy in the film because it's meant to be taken seriously. I really don't understand how people can like it or think it's good writing or direction. To quote Mr Plinkett, my brain is collapsing in on itself!!!!!

    Why Origins and this movie have same rating on imdb? Like really what the hell, I don't hate Origins, but this movie is much better (it deserves rating above 7).

    • @awesome420ication
      @awesome420ication 7 лет назад +15

      I kind of get why this got a low rating. It's a good movie, don't get me wrong but it's not a conventional x men movie in that it's a more personal movie and depicts wolverine's struggle. so fanboys didn't take kindly to that. On the other hand, x men origins is 6.7 or something and i don't have a clue why. I will say this though. I liked this movie way better when i viewed it the second time.

    • @Jegfil
      @Jegfil 7 лет назад +8

      awesome420ication Yeah I can kinda see it too
      -"not perfect" villain
      -some personal problems
      -some small inconsistencies
      If that wouldn't be the case, movie for me could be even 10/10
      But what you said for others is also true.

    One aspect that I really liked about this movie was his relationship with Jean Grey. In the previous films, I didn't feel any chemistry between them. It just seemed to me that Logan wanted to sleep with her but didn't really care for her beyond that. This is the first time where I felt that his love for her was genuine, and I was like "it's about time that they got that right."

    It was a good movie, up until the final act. The Logan vs. giant Silver Samurai robot was too silly for the kind of movie this was up to that point. Also, Viper was awful: the actress, the writing, the look, ALL of it was painful and, again, too silly for the mostly serious dramatic movie it was otherwise. Favorite Xmen film is probably either X2 or Days of Future Past.

    • @gamemediafan1714
      @gamemediafan1714 3 года назад

      I really think that the way the final act went down had studio interference. It feels like they took a look at the climax of Iron Man 1 with the Iron Monger, and were like "Hey guys just copy that for our climax it'll be great". I didn't hate the climax of The Wolverine, it was executed ok, but I would've much rathered a real blade style 1 on 1 samurai fight.

  • @Axolotl_Mischief
    @Axolotl_Mischief 8 лет назад +38

    Yup. Loved thus flick, with two gripes- Viper was poorly cast, and Silver Samurai would've been better as an Ironman sized suit of armor. The giant robo bit was needless in my opinion, and didn't lend any favors to the climactic fight scene.

    Good review. I liked the movie for some of the reasons you gave (setting in Japan, actions scenes, violence and an attempt at story/character development), however, I still felt disappointed. It was half an hour too long, and that half-hour was poorly done. The main villain, the grandfather, was guessed from the trailers alone, and some of the characters were pointless - especially viper. Not to mention the irregularities regarding his heeling, bone claws, and numerous other things that are too long to list. Overall, I gave it a generous 7.

    • @hnjahnjah
      @hnjahnjah 10 лет назад +1

      precisely what you said,not to mention that some of the characters they took huge liberties with instead of staying true to their comic book counterparts. The Silver Samurai was totally MEH and pointless in my mind,especially considering i was quite hyped to have him in the movie. Also,another part i didn't like is that the love story between the girl and logan felt un-finished. I actually even stood for after credits scenes in hopes of seeing Daken,but felt really dissapointed.

    In the film The Wolverine, we explore the philosophical aspects of existentialism and the concept of immortality. This comment will attempt to see how each character’s approach to immortality affects his or hers actions in the film.
    First and foremost we encounter the character Logan, played by Hugh Jackman. His healing factor essentially allows him to outlive all his contemporaries. As a result, he has to suffer innumerable losses of his loved ones. The most recent loss is of Jean Grey, whose memory continues to haunt him during his dreams. Even though some like his colleague turned Yashida view this immortality as a curse, Wolverine eventually channels this healing factor into something good as he uses it to save his friends from countless dangers which would destroy an ordinary person. In the end, when Logan removes the parasite from his body that is draining his healing factor he finally accepts his powers and the responsibilities that come along with it.
    The character Viper represents Lady Death as symbolized in Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s the Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Her scheme of manipulating Yashida and attempting to poison and destroy Wolverine’s immortality and healing power are the main antagonist forces in the movie.
    Another character, Yashida, sees immortality in a different approach. He is saved in Nagasaki by Logan and witnesses the Wolverine’s amazing healing factors. As a result, he spends his entire life obsessing about how to obtain this power. When he is ravaged from leukemia near the end of his life, he designs a scheme with the aid of a villain named Viper to steal Wolverine’s healing ability. Ironically, as mentioned above, Yashida claims immortality as a curse yet wishes to steal Wolverine’s immortality.
    It can be said that a parent lives through his children and their legacy and unfulfilled dreams can be accomplished through future generations.

    It's worth going to the theater for, but a scene has been cut out because of its excessive violence, but it will be included in the DVD...

    I had zero expectations for this movie at all, especially after Origins, and the trailers didn't really convince me either. I went for Hugh Jackman because he puts so much heart in this character and seems like a really nice guy. And the movie was fun, like Iron Man fun. The audience laughed throughout the whole movie and it was badass I.e. The train scene. First Class and X2 are the best so far imo. I hope Days of Future past will be at least as good as these two.

    Chris, I don't know if you have, but if not, you should read the Miller/Claremont Wolverine comics. They are the best Wolverine fiction across any medium and largely inspired this film.

    Stumbled onto your channel looking for The Wolverine reviews. Loved your style, so I thought I'd watch a couple more of your vids. Wow. I subscribed almost immediately. I couldn't decide what video to watch; I wanted to watch that many of them! We have very similar nerd background/taste! Even anime reviews! So excited to continue watching! :D

    OK. I very much like X2, as well. Easily one of the best comic book adaptations. I do have a fondness for that film, but "First Class" is by far my favourite. Fassbender and McAvoy were brilliant. I also loved January Jones, who I thought was amazing in the role of Emma Frost.

    I've just come back from seeing The Wolverine, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I loved it as I thought it was the best superhero film of the year so - miles better than Man of Steel (disappointing) and even a little bit better than Iron Man 3 (really good). I know some critics and audience will rate this film lower because of the smaller scale and because of much less action, but thats what I found most refreshing about this movie, its different both in it premise and its tighter plot.

    MY favorite X-Men films in order are:
    X2: X-Men United. Bryan Singer really upped his game as did the cast.
    X-Men: A really good film that kick started the comic book movie craze of last decade.
    X-Men: First Class. This really surprised me at how good of a story they could tell without the heavy hitters.
    X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I didn't hate this film nearly as much as everyone else did. This will sound odd, but the best part was Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, and the worst was "Deadpool"

    I don't get how this movie still has the same IMDb score as 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine.' I mean this movie should be slightly higher, like at least an average of 7.4/10. 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine should be at like a five point something out of 10 or less and not 6.8/10. Like what the heck? These movies are completely different.

    well its hard for a studio to make the money they want for a comicbook movie with a budget like The Wolverine if it were rated R.. Mangold promised a hard Wolverine movie.. so he made it as hard as possible to keep the PG13 rating and will have a unrated cut for the Blu-ray.. very exciting indeed

    I totally agree Chris! While I thought the film was great and a big improvement on the last Wolverine based X-men movie the ending just didn't fit the tone that the rest of the movie had set up. Great review! :)

    My favorite x men movie so far is probably first class, because while most x men movies have a somewhat dark tone, I don't have a problem with that but first class felt lighter and fun and that was a nice change of pace.

    Up until a few years ago I would have said X2, but I have to say - like a lot of others here - X-Men First Class.
    Despite the rewriting of some canon (which just irks the Comic Book Girl Geek in me a little no matter what) I think that movie was the closest I've ever seen character-wise to what I grew up reading. Tight plot. Excellent character development. Just, the best so far. :)

    Perfect review Stuckmann, this movie was outstanding. Hugh Jackman was phenomenal as Wolverine, great action, good effects. A very uninteresting villain tho, and the last 20 minutes are typical summer action. 9 out of 10

    My favourite X-Men movie so far is X-Men First Class. And, as much as I appreciate the more serious and grounded tone, goddman, this movie had a ton of lenghts. I would have given it a straight up C, but considering the very nice finale, I'll rate it a C+.
