The only things I don’t like like about it, but can live with, was the silly and pointless love triangle. I wish they’d done a little more with Rogue, she’s my favorite. I wish they’d done more with Angel. A very cool concept but not much of a character there. Aside from that, still a very enjoyable X Men movie. Not as good as the first two, but exceptional.

@@GreatOldOne9866 I just hate how truly underutilized Rogue was in the entire franchise. She's a great character and Anna Paquin is a perfect casting for the choice, it's just because there's so many characters in this movie, they used to sidelined her in the background even in Days of Future Past her scenes was cut and was in the theatrical version for about 5 seconds and Paquin herself was credited in the ensemble cast member at the end credits, atleast there's the Rogue cut that redeem the character and Paquin herself

In Bryan Singer's plot outline for X men 3, Jean Grey would've been a very powerful entity causing disruption around the world. Strange lights seen in the sky, cargo ships being torn apart in the ocean carrying mutant prisoners.
Cyclops has build the Danger room and leads the x men on a rescue mission. Cyclops thinks that the X-men could've done more to save Jean and failed as a team.
Gambit would be new member of the X men and Rogue has feelings for Gambit and Iceman becomes jealous. Gambit would be a love rival for Iceman. Apparently Keanu Reeves was set to play Gambit.
The X men and Magneto discover that Jean Grey has resurrected as the Phoenix where she thinks mankind cant co exist and she is taking matter into her own hands. Emma Frost and the Hellfire club try to convince Jean Grey to join their team. Emma Frost was set to be played by Sigourney Weaver
The US Goverment want to capture Magneto and dispatch an army of Sentinel robots to hunt down Magneto.
In the movies climax the X men, Magnetos brotherhood and the Hellfire club all battle each other to win Jean's trust and Jean sacrifices herself to stop the three forces killing each other and to save the world from her own fury.
Then Jean would become a Goddess and says her goodbye to Cyclops and the x men.

Watched this as part of my X-Men marathon expecting it to bad, and surprisingly I thought it was really good! I got chills multiple times throughout it. I think it has the best action of the 3 films, the music theme for Dark Phoenix (especially at the end when Logan is reaching her) is amazing, and the conclusion to Jeans character as well as her relationship to Logan was handled better than I expected. The "cure" plot was pretty smart too and added some cool character moments. Also, of course, Bobby becoming full Ice Man was awesome.

      Neon Demon, hi!
Glad to hear that I`m not the only one. A lot of fans seem to hate "The Last Stand". It has flaws but I like the movie nevertheless.
The Cure Storyline was great in the Comics - like most X-Men stories from Joss Whedon - and I think it was not the worst movie adaption we saw in the Marvel Franchise (both Disney and FOX).
There are a few great dialogues. Like when Raven refuses to answer to her "slave name". I was impressed by the Beast (coming right from "Cheers", who would have thought that "Frazier" is a Mutant?) and like him much more than the teenager Beast version of the new films. He looks better and is more in character compared to his comic counterpart.) And of course I enjoyed the scenes with the Multiple Man. Not to mention that I adore Ellen Page as Kitty.
(What a cute little Mutant. Best looking Shadowcat ever.)
"The Last Stand" is not perfect and the first half is indeed better than the rest of it. But I can`t understand the hate it gets. And I have no clue why some fanboys and girls were upset about the fact that a few of their favorite characters got killed! Come on! We are talking about Marvel Comics!! Every Marvel Superhero has to die from time to time!!! It´s a superhero duty and Comic book law. ;)

The big issue with this movie for me is the nakedly obvious studio interference. The production was troubled; the movie and franchise suffered from it. The movie has the burden of tying up a trilogy but also has to springboard sequels and prequels. Characters are killed off like they're trash that needs to be thrown out. The end result is rushed movie that seemed to be done so that the studio would be able to meet it's X-Men-movie-out-once-every-three-years quota. -- AT

If it lessens your concern then you should know that WB is doing 139 advance screening for the movie; they wouldn't have done that if the movie sucked. E.G. Independence Day: Resurgence had no early screenings because the studio didn't want to tarnish the film's potential profits and they knew it sucked. I think the movie is going to be really good.

      @dazo1794 7 лет назад +1

Deadgod91 When I fully think about it, it's not gonna be terrible I just think it will be very very average. The concept is simple: King fights these Skullcrawler monsters on the island and that's it. The characters look one dimensional and have no personality and it just looks very basic. Some of the shots of Kong also have very questionable cgi. They've also copied off Godzilla 2014 a little as in the trailer one says "they weren't tests they were trying to kill something" which is the exact same thing from Godzilla. What you said about the advances screenings though does bring me a little bit of relief :)

Spider-Man 3 had the misfortune of having an excellent predecessor so it had a lot to live up to and people's expectation were high. The combination of too many villains and a dip in script quality due to the studio pressuring Raimi into including Venom (when he didn't want to) meant that people remember it as being worse than it is. That's my take on it, it's still enjoyable and it's an ok film with a few shining moments like all of the fight scenes and Sandman first forming: that editing and cinematography combined with the music was gorgeous.
The Last Stand I feel is in the exact same boat, though with the obvious problem of having an inferior director.

    • @nokturnallex2160
      @nokturnallex2160 7 лет назад +6

Every single one of the X-men movies hasn't done the source material justice. Almost every character was done incorrectly from their background, to their personality, to their character arcs. The 90's Animated Series was much more true to form.
      Examples:
Rogue isn't a damsel in distress, she's a bad ass that kills people with her touch and has the ability to fly and hit people like a truck, she was a bad guy to start, killed Ms.Marvel which allowed her to have the super human strength and the ability to fly. She has hands down the best romance of the entire series with Gambit. (Cyclops and Jean are way too boring) Movies didn't keep any of that and had her romance like every single X-men except Gambit lol.
Jean, Phoenix Arc, completely ruined. Lack of Emma Frost being a villain leads to her not having a good nemesis.
Wolverine: As good a Hugh Jackman plays him, he's supposed to be short and ugly. His entire Japan backstory throughout multiple movies was done incorrectly. (Fighting Lady Deathstrike like he never even met her)
I could keep going but it'd be like a thousand page paper on how much they ignored the source material.

    • @EndCreditReviews

I was so disappointed when this first came out, but I've softened up toward it over the years. I wish they had just focused on the cure storyline and left out Dark Phoenix. I could even forgive the non-cosmic Phoenix story (it's okay for the movies to be different than the comics) but by trying to squeeze two completely different plots into one movie, they both suffered. And I still do feel really cheated that we've never gotten a chance to see Cyclops really be the leader. But there are far worse movies out there than X3. If it's on TV, I don't mind watching it. I agree with what Chris said: It has characters I love so I like just seeing them. And the score to this film really is quite good. That's its most redeeming quality.

Isn't the third film supposed to be the grand catharsis of what's been laid already? I don't expect them to lay the foundation for everything just so that the film can stand on its own. Just rewatched it (after many many years, possibly over a decade since last time I watched it!)
Honestly, it was SUCH an enjoyable, fun, and easily rewatchable superhero film!
Yes, the plot may be crunched up but the runtime being a little over an hour and a half...does fly by super fast, like a swift summer blockbuster breeze!
It has its flaws BUT it’s also got some major pros/strengths too!
    1) all 5 original XMEN getting featured, for one! Including Archangel’s short but effective arc/scenes and Iceman powering up!
On top of BEAST finally having his bonafide SHINING moment! From the look, sound of him and even his suit jacket...it all worked perfectly!
    2) Killing Xavier AND SCOTT...midway was a super bold, gutsy, ballsy, risky move...that imo raised the stakes and emphasized the pathos of a third film, in a trilogy...which at the time was not the norm at all...for a popcorn superhero film!
I think, ultimately that’s the reason why this film got as much flack as it did...people had an emotional attachment/reaction to it/all those legacy characters dying that,
in retrospect after all those years and decades of MCU deaths and higher stakes...feels not as painful as it originally did, yet still EFFECTIVE in kicking the drama into high gear!
    3) the debating themes of THE CURE, and an injection /jab/vax being the answer...it’s polarizing effect amongst both mutants AND between them and humans...in a post 2020 Pandemic/Cov-19 world...feels oddly downright PROPHETIC! At best!
Predictive and ahead of its time, at worst!
Quite FASCINATING and layered to take in, after the current climate of 2020-2022
UNCANNY and chilling to ponder on!
    4) the special and practical effects were and still are AH MA ZING! They Still hold up very strong...especially the initial Sentinel Simulation Room fight as well as the final battle,
especially JEAN/Phoenix going ballistic with Fire/Water/Rain/Lightning all layering around her, as people vanished to ashes...
also...Kitty’s run alongside Juggernaut is oddly VERY fun and satisfying!!!
    5) LOVED how at its core, the film is about pushing on against life’s tragedies and finding a way to continue on...staying United and doing what is RIGHT...as true heroes would
(I cried during Storm’s Eulogy at Xavier’s funeral, it hit me so much harder as an adult having lost so many people I love in my life...compared to when I originally watched it for the first time...all those moments of grief NEVER really registered with me!)
And on top of all of that...it was about
    6) the EPIC LOVE between Wolverine and Jean Grey caught up in this pyramid of pain with Cyclops already having paid the price...and the sacrifices necessary for the greater good!
Those are all mature and dark themes, that we have come to CRAVE for and deeply desire more of them, in the MCU after getting mostly safe, vanilla storylines UNTIL endgame and phase 4 (WandaVision and Loki etc.) for over 10 plus years!
Again, only pointing towards HOW BOLD and FEARLESS (and yes messy! At times) those FOX films were being...
All in all, in retrospect I don’t find THE LAST STAND to be as BAD as everyone made it out to be...the truth is...it’s MUCH BETTER than other Marvel films...
Definitely better than DARK PHOENIX imo!
Gotta say tho....Cyclops was underused and not utilized properly, just like Rogue!!!

this film wasn't terrible, just disappointing in its execution and storytelling. like i was happy about the inclusion of storm being more prominent in the film, singer and the writers have said they didn't know what to do with storm in the first 2 films so rattner wanted to put storm in more of the film for the story and make her an actual person part of the x-men team. i liked what they did with Jean grey being a person with DID or bipolar instead of some cosmic entity that took over her body since they didn't even do any space shit to back it up. loved kelsey grammer as beast, was perfect for the part and one of the high points for the film. i hate how they put too many new characters in the film, did we really need juggernaut? did we really need that porcupine mutant dude?? did they really need to do the mutant cure thing while the phoenix story too?? did we really need angel in the film????? why did they have characters just wait around to do stuff??? like jean grey is losing her mind, why would she be hanging out with magneto and other mutants that are nowhere near her level of power where she could easily just kill everyone and be done?? couldn't they make fanka a better wig than what they gave her?? lace wigs were around since the 1920's they have all that money to spend but can't find a good believable wig for her to wear??? they should've focus on the phoenix stuff only in the third and at the end they introduced the cure bc of the destruction jean has caused to humans and mutants, would've been better. also they did nothing with rouge again , no powers of flight or super human strength at all. i know fox doesn't have the rights to ms marvel but you mean to tell me there wasn't another mutant character she couldn't get the same powers from??? had a lot of potential but didn't meet it bc of time and focusing on action pieces instead.

Not gonna lie., I f*cking LOVE X3. It was the only X-Men film (at the time) that we saw them actually fight *AS A TEAM!* The first 2 films COMPLETELY ignored the fact that in the comics and tv show, they would work together to defeat their foes, so I loved it. With that said, I have some issues with Chris' review. How can he penalize X3 for basically being a sequel? He doesn't give the emotional moments of the film credit simply because he says that he only cares for characters because of the first 2 films setting them up so good. Well...that's how it is in most EVERY sequel. They rarely set up the characters in them (since you likely saw the previous films), so they get right into the story,. Hell, some sequels literally start right where the previous film left off, so they don't have time to give you a detailed backstory on that character's history, so I did not understand Chris' point there. Also, "I'm the Juggernaut, Bitch!" gets a lot of hate today, but when I saw that scene in theaters back in 2006, not only did the audience cheer loudly when he said it, but HALF of them said the line right along with him, so they clearly loved it...and so did I :)

My favourite line in this movie is when Magneto says to Pyro, “Charles Xavier did more for mutants than you could ever know.”

That was powerful. The movie is clearly powerful if we care enough about Xavier that we're devastated by that little punk. Pyro saying shit about him.

Chris if you're going over marvel stuff you should review the blade movies! Especially the 1st one, so underrated

Huh, I'm surprised you were quite easy on this film, I thought you would be as hard on it as you were on Spider-Man 3.

I will say one thing for this film, it has some of the best acting of the series. Plus, it's always a treat to see Ian McKellen give a big Shakespearean speech.

In my opinion, X-Men 3 was not the worst movie in the franchise (I'm sure what the next one is), but, like Spider-Man 3 a year later, X-Men: The Last Stand was a total disappointment compared to the first two films.
    I have 3 things that I liked and disliked about X-Men 3:
I liked the inclusion of Kelsey Grammar as Hank McCoy aka Beast, I liked some of the action sequences and character moments in the film and I really liked the scene where Magneto tore apart the Golden Gate Bridge because, to me, it facilitated how incredible Ian McKellen was as Magneto.
Now, for the other side: I did not like how Brett Ratner killed off Xavier, Cyclops and Jean Grey, I didn't like how some of the characters (namely Juggernaut and Angel) came off as meh or bleh in the film and, last but not least, I really did not like how much the Dark Phoenix storyline was butchered in this movie. Famke Jensen will always be Jean Grey to me, and to see how her character became in this movie was disrespectful to the comic and the character as a whole.
I, like you, didn't hate X-Men: The Last Stand, but I was very disappointed with the movie.

With the end credit scene with Xavier waking up in his twin brothers body, I know it was stupid and all but they did kinda set it up in the beginning of the movie where Xavier was teaching the kids about transferring your mind into someone else's comatose body or something like that. So at least it didn't completely come out of no where

Actually, I think had they ended the film on such a grim note, cutting out the hints of powers coming back with Magneto and Charles, when you watch Days of Future Past, the ending really hits home. The humans had seen what phoenix had done... they were terrified, and in their hysteria, created the sentinels.

Chris sounds like he's trying hard to diss this movie because that's the general consensus to hate the last stand but he keeps praising it and the soundtrack is absolutely awesome I really don't get the hate of last stand
