How the fuck did no one like this movie? It's pretty accurate to the Patch comics and it's just brutal Wolverine action. It seems like people are confusing this movie with the Wolverine Origins movie

Bryan Colbert Well I think the ending was quite poor and the viper villain kinda ruins the tone of the movie throughout but I agree. This does not deserve to have the same rating at origins. It's much much better.

I give Hugh Jackman props, and I think the was the best film in which he played Wolverine, and James Mangold had several great films that I loved (Copland, Walk the Line, Identity) but that being said, this film was GOOD, but not GREAT. I still think the first 2 X-men films are the best. If you really want to see Hugh Jackman rock his shit, see "Prisoners".

My flaws for The Wolverine are nitpicks. My 5 reasons why I liked it so much:
    1. I wanted a close but not exact adaptation of the comic issue when Logan was in Japan. I love the old and pop Japanese culture. It exceeded my expectations.
    2. Logan was mostly invulnerable in all of movies. This movie tested how far and deep can he go when his main mutant power was taken away.
    3. Mariko was strong on her own right. And she got exposed at the same time. Yuriko looks like she was an anime character far from the comics, but played her part with Logan so well.
    4. The twist near a the end gasped me. I did not see that coming.
    5. The post-credit scene blew my mind. I got me clapping and excited to see the movie adaptation of DOFP.

    • @captainmarvelwilson508
      @captainmarvelwilson508 2 года назад

I agree with everything except number 4. That twist was both very obvious and was a clear attempt to get a more menacing villain in the movie to accompany the already shitty Viper.

Old review, i know, but I agree with Ralinor666. (except that last point....) The directing was great, awesome, and the director's work is worth following. Love interest should stay away from Comic action movies. The story/plot/reason we came to the movies was clumsily, see through and full of holes. The actors did what they could, and a damn good job of it. But geeez... honor these great stars with at least a good script. My goodness... Hire some real writers to make it solid.... the actors will do their jobs beautifully, just damn.... give them something to work with.

I'm surprised to hear how much you liked this movie. I think it had a great set up in the beginning with Japan in WW2, but I think the plot fell apart as the movie progressed. I did not think the female viper villain belonged and the twist with his friend being the silver samurai made me feel like my intelligence was being insulted. I will give this another chance thanks to your review. Jackman was amazing as always (He's so good I don't think anyone else can play Wolverine right now).
The Wolverine movies have failed to capture the guilt, shame, remorse, and regret that Wolverine carries around with him. I really wish someone like Scorsese could direct Wolverine so we can get a more intimate character study. He's that type of character, in my opinion, more so than Spiderman, Batman, and many other superheroes. He's also a very romantic character, which I think they scratched the surface with, but have not gone all the way.

I thought it was a dramatic improvement from the shitty Xmen origins wolverine film. I thought it was decent in its own right, the character is fleshed out more, the action is top notch, and the story wasnt bad. I liked the setting a lot, its a nice change of pace. Only thing that really annoyed me was the completely inaccurate portrayal of the silver samurai, like the film became a stupid trasnformer movie at the end. Silver Samurai is a fucking mutant, not a stupid robot armor suit

IT was better than all the X-men movie in my opinion.how they stayed true to the japanese culture for one, which the japanese critics appreciated it very much too. The fact that when japanese people talked to eachother they spoke japanese and the score has so many japanese western aspects about it too. Another was the tone and feel of the badass type of scenes. Theyre set up and toned with like a western gunslinger type feel. And the fact that he had a type of clint eastwood badassness about him

    • @TheReplenishingFlame

Great to know that Japanese critics appreciated this great film for the reasons you said. I definitely thought Clint’s Dollars gunslinger was being channeled, aptly enough given that role’s debt to Kurosawa.

i like to think the silver samurai sword is altimanium found thison wikipedia In the 2013 film The Wolverine, the Silver Samurai's armor is built out of adamantium. The film depicts more decisive example of adamantium being damaged is shown as the two katanas wielded by the Samurai, also constructed of adamantium, are able to slice through Wolverine's claws

I really liked this film. I can see why people who are fans of previous X-men movies or comic book movies in general might not like this one, though. It's not just because this is a darker movie (Batman movies have taken that crown, and the Marvel movies verse may go there soon), but because this played more like a drama movie for me. Almost like a mystery movie. I really enjoyed it, but the tone is really different from the others.
I agree that Jackman is Wolverine now for me. Can't imagine another guy playing him.
The last few minutes with the reveal really annoyed me, though. If I remember right (it's been a while since I saw the movie), it felt like it pulled the bottom out from that character's arc, and instead of going for a gray character, they went full black-white, evil-good. I also didn't feel there was good foreshadowing for him and that the twist came out of nowhere, like they went "Who would be the person least likely in-universe to be the bad guy? This guy!" even though it's the most obvious choice they could choose for a big reveal.
It's fun seeing Stuckmann's old reviews. Thanks for the video, though it's been 2 years, haha.

He seemed like an Iron Man villain because he was wearing a giant suit like
Iron Monger did in Iron Man (2008). He just stands around and uses the
suit...kind of like Iron Monger...but he was a bad villain while Iron
Monger was at least decent. I agree with you about Wolverine...they really
understood how to handle his character this time around.

I didn't expect anything great going in and coming out, I wanted to like it more. I actually think if someone like Nicolas Winding Refn was involved in making the movie, it would've been better. The comic it was based on came out in the 80's and maybe setting it in that time would've been best. Although Hugh did such a good job and the dialogue fit Wolverine so well in this one.

  • @016Blaze
    @016Blaze 11 лет назад

that is true. However, you have to consider the imagery that cutting off his claws provided. Also, it will be a unique hurdle for him to overcome later on. i think they did it to ground Wolverine a bit more. Otherwise you'd have a unstoppable, unkillable guy whom, can just tear through armies of enemies without thought.

I think it's because either A, X-men Origins: Wolverine is either not apart of the X-men movie franchise anymore, or B, it is apart of the franchise, but the creators of the X-men films are keeping the tradition of creating paradoxes in the X-men movie storyline.

Good point with the characters actually speak their native language. That was one (of several) weakness in the Captain America movie: German characters speaking english with german accents in private rooms with other germans. I mean that takes away from the mood and drama.

The strike doesn't go thorough the spine merely cuts the lower half of the torso and the movement through is actually along the belly to clear the sword from the abdominal cavity, so no it didn't go through the spine. I know because my hobby is Kendo. Don't get my started on the flips during Shingen's sparring match...

While few comics attempt to show exactly how his healing factor function there have been instances where Logan's bone marrow has been harvested to reproduce his healing factor. Just recovering DNA wouldn't necessarily let you recreate his regeneration abilities unless you were a super genius who could find a way to duplicate it without actual material.

Dao Yang I thought it was a robot, but was glad there was a man inside. Not exactly the same from comics but it did well in the movie.

Chris I was wondering if you could break out your review grades... Like a grade for: director, acting, sound track, etc. and then add those up for a final grade... Just like GameTrailers used to do for video games. Nice Wolverine Review

When wolverine saves yoshida at the start of the movie he had bone claws so that means that event happened before x men origins wolverine so if wolverine lost his memory after that then how was he able to remember that he saved a guy and when he was with mariko how does he remember the well?

I think this was the apology for how bad origins was. As such, I think they are just acting like origins never happened, which is probably for the better.

Chace White in that case i totally go with cuz i rather go with it than having to think about origins again lol

I really liked this film because it wasn't as cynical and needlessly grimdark as most movies today.(yes, Man of Steel, I'm looking at you.) Yes it was serious an brutal but it had a lot of humanity to it, with concepts like honor, love, loyalty and dealing with one's mortality (or immortality). It was fun and a good Wolverine story.

Nice movie and one the the best comic book heroes movies. Though some scenes at the end (the cutting of claws and the drilling of knuckles) are really awkward and gratuitous. Plus, the only thing that prevents his adamantium skeleton to kill Wolverine is his mutant healing power. The moment he looses it, his body should have collapsed on itself and Wolvie should have been in intense pain and couldn't have been able to move. Or fight. Big screenplay flaw there!
