      Thanks for watching. First, if you can, let your papers air dry. I don't dry my papers in the oven anymore. Watch other videos about Kool Aid dying because there are sooooo many ways to do it. My video was made in 2018. So many new ways to dye paper. Good luck with your adventures. I want to add one more thought. I ironed my papers because I wanted them to glue things on them. Crinkled is lovely but I wanted flat. Have a great time!!

    I did Kool aid papers. I use my metal keys, gears, punch outs and die cuts, little paper doilies, as patterns. I also put in some la colors eye shadow. Then i baked piles of them. The effect is amazing. And the smell!!! They're my favorite. The instructions are for drinking not for dying.

    • @MessyTableStudio
      @MessyTableStudio  5 месяцев назад +1

      I have never done keys or metal. I have done silicone pieces, paper plates holders and doilies. Always interesting results. Thanks for the suggestions. Always good to try new things! I thought some of the papers smelled better than others. The read actually smelled like a cherry pie. Is that crazy?

      @@MessyTableStudio If it's crazy, then I'm crazy. I love the smells. I bought the LA colors eye shadows for embossing but it didn't come off the surrounding area at all so I kept them and decided to try it on my papers. Beautiful effect, just all shimmery. I have some gate die cuts, and they make a pretty sight, and then you also have a colored gate for something else

    Some other gal used 1/2 c of warm water, 1/2 c vinegar. The vinegar adds volume but doesn't dilute the color shade. Pat

      Oh, that is good to know. I will do some more papers when I get a new oven. I love the vinegar idea so that it doesn't really change anything. Maybe it sets the color better?

    • @MessyTableStudio
      @MessyTableStudio  3 года назад +1

      Oh I am glad that worked for you. Just be sure that you don't wash the lace too much or eventually it will cause a lot of the color to wash out. If you are using the lace for journals or for embellishments that will never be washed, hopefully it will take a long time for the colors to fade. If you want a more permanent way to dye buy some Ph Martin India Ink dyes. They can be washed and should last longer. They also have a better variety of colors. Good luck with your dying adventures. It is so much fun!

    • @MessyTableStudio
      @MessyTableStudio  3 месяца назад

      I wish I could have too! It was just mixing the water and Kool aid in a small cookie sheet and baking it on another in the oven. I don't dry dyed paper in the oven anymore. I dry some papers with doilies or molds flat on a cookie sheet overnight. That way the pattern has time to set. Sometimes I do just plain paper dying on the sheet pans too. My most favorite way is my retractable clothes line in my studio. I use basic clothes pins to hang the wet papers up and they are usually dry in the morning. In the summer when my ceiling fan is going full tilt, it takes thirty minutes or so to dry. The process is extremely beginner friendly.

    Very nice, cool husband too! I have leftover KoolAid from fiber dying as well. I’m excited to give paper a go! Years ago my husband had me pour baking soda on aluminum foil and my tarnished silver. When hot water was added the aluminum and baking soda reacted and my silver was clean. I don’t know what happens when these meet up but I love the texture you made!

      Oh I am NOT telling him he is cool. lol! I will never live that down. The baking soda trick for silver has been around for many years. My mom used to do that. She hated polishing her good silverware for holidays. Some one is another post said something that I think answered my question in the video about the white powdery stuff I had on the sheet pans all the time. They mentioned pre-sweetened KoolAid. I am wondering how if that is the stuff that was left over and not the baking soda. Could have been a combo of the two things. I have plans to do another video and see what happens. I am the kind of person who leaps before I look most of the time so that explains the directions on the packets. I suggest if you use the Kool Aid not to put baking powder or baking soda in the water. Stuff stains just fine without it. Because I live in Texas and dye paper year 'round I don't use the oven anymore. I bought a retractable clothline and put it in my studio and hang my papers on the clothesline. The ceiling fan is always on so I don't use any extra power drying my papers and they are dried in about 20-30 minutes. I am too impatient for letting them dry overnight on the cookie sheets. Hope this helps!

    I loved your Koolaid dying tutorial and am going to try my hand at this. I think using the Koolaid cherry flavor sounds fabulous! I love the smells of cherry pie baking, but this would be significantly better on the waistline! Knowing my luck, it would probably make me so hungry I would end up eating the paper! LOL! By the way, I also love your sense of humor! Thanks for the tutorial! Kathy

      Yes - Shannon was always very good at letting us listen to her painty papers and to her beads. lol - I had just told her that I love her nails and the last time she had polished her nails was when she celebrated her 100th video and I don't know why i remember that video but i do - she has a special way of staying in our minds. I am so happy that you are making videos and you are also bringing a smile to my face : )

      Vicky, doing the dying does change the paper into something more like a rag. I did iron it and that went well but printing bead templates did not go so well. Let me know how you do!

    These look great! I work FT and try to play when I can so I usually purchase the dyed papers off Etsy! I would love to do my own but barely have the time to do what I do!!!!

    • @MessyTableStudio

      I usually dye my papers and stack up the pans they are in and get to them when I can. A friend recommended buying a retractable clothes line for my art room. I stretch it out like I hanging clothes to dry. They spend the night on the line and the next morning they are good to go. It is a slow process but doesn't take much effort on my part. In the summer months I dye a ton of paper. The ceiling fan does the work for me.

      First, I am sorry for your loss. I have been married for 41 years and don't know what I would do without the old boy. My father died after my parents had been married 43 years and I truly do not know how on earth my mother carried on as long as she did. I laugh every day at all the dumb things I do, and how in the end they aren't half bad! It certainly shocks me. If we lived closer we might get into all kinds of trouble. Keep in touch!

About using gloves - if you ever find that tutorial, let me know 😁 constantly dyed hands or paint and glue on hands 😁 About the baking soda maybe too much? Love the idea! I saw a video (might have been Nick the Booksmith) where I should put baking soda in the coffee to get the Ph level neutral. Maybe same reason here... LOVE the colors!!! Wanna make it but I don't think we have kool-aid here (I live in northen Sweden).

      Elaine, Koolaid is a fruit flavored drink usually in powder form you mix with water. Grew up drinking it instead of water, which was way healthier. Where do you live, USA or someplace else? I could send you some envelopes of it for you to play with.

      Hi Vickie I'm in UK we don't have it here. I thought it was a drink of some sort. The purple one is rather gorgeous and cherry came out very dark and scrummy too. I was thinking of trying some organic things to see how they go. Turmeric looks rather interesting I was watching some one early today using spices and other things. 😊😊😊

    • @MessyTableStudio
      @MessyTableStudio  6 лет назад

      It is a drink but usually little kids drink it. It comes in powder form and then you add water to it.

    Love love love your colors, papers, and cheerful voice! Thank you for sharing! Do you think it best to dye paper with food coloring or koolade? I’ve been wanting to try both, but time is limited so I’m not sure which to try first.

    • @MessyTableStudio
      @MessyTableStudio  6 лет назад +1

      Daisy, I was disappointed in the yellow so I did add food color to "beef" up the color. I have not done strictly food dyes but others have and they turn out very nicely. I might have to do a video on that in the future. I think that if you want vivid color I would do with food dyes first. Kool Aid does pastel looking color depending on the ratio of water and mix you use. Good luck with the dying. It turns out so differently every time!

    What a clever technique. Never saw this one and it maybe something I will try. Guess it's important to bake the paper? I actually liked the baking soda addition. Thanks!

    • @vapurl9330
      @vapurl9330 6 лет назад

      gloria Eike Gloria, I baked my papers at 250 degrees and took them out when they were mostly dried. I dry them in the oven because I don't have a lot of space to hang papers in the studio. Plus I am impatient and want to see them done. If you hang dry them, you will not have extra crispy papers like I did. There is a video on RUclips that talks about the baking soda. I probably should have watched the whole thing before I started. Lol! Dye some papers. It is so interesting how they turn out so differently. Thanks for watching.

      Ahhh, been there. And, if I'm on my tablet, I cannot easily go back without loosing my place. From what I have seen, it is used as a mordant to help the color to take.

    Pretty, pretty! Sounds like a lot of work. What was your water ratio? I would like to try this.

    • @MessyTableStudio
      @MessyTableStudio  6 лет назад

      Thilda Hanna Thilda, I did not measure the water. I think it might have been about a cup to a cup and a half of water. I just eye balled it. I had a good time but standing around the oven for three hours is tiring. You have to stay right there and check on the paper because it will catch on fire if you leave it too long. Give one packet a try to see if you like it.
