- Learning to get into the manual parts testing mode of a Whirlpool Washer is very, very important as you can troubleshoot your Whirlpool washer much more easily. In this video, I show you how to enter the manual parts testing mode, and how to bypass the lidlock so you can view spin and agitation results without playing the guessing game.

For those that have a whirlpool washer and couldn't get it into trouble shooting mode do this. Just move the dial to "Normal" then do this in increments of one. I believe this will work no matter what way the dial is pointing but I moved it to "Normal" just because.
Left / Right / Right / Right / Left / Right, move the dial and when both "Spin" and "Done" are lit up press start. That will put you in manual test mode. The codes are the same as far as testing. For me "Drain & Spin" was the agitation mode.

Nothing happened on mine. Not sure what I'm doing wrong or what's wrong with the machine. When I do turn it on only the locked light turns and then off but no cycle

Its an incredible mode that maybe 1% of people don't know about.
Literally, we can take this washing machine, throw an extension cord on it outside our shop, and just hammer these modes and know the entire life history of the washer in 2 minutes. We can weed out maybe 98% of failures doing this.

We have a Kenmore Model 110 26012010 HE Top loader.
Every once in a while I need to reset the machine as it fails to complete the spin cycle on it's own (just sits there...).
I used your excellent advice and was able to determine a fault code F7 E5 (Shifter Fault) was stored (an OBD port would be nice like on my cars :) ).
I followed up with a Drive System-Shifter tests (service manual SPIN and AGITATE Tests) and all the tests worked fine.
Everything worked when manually tested.
I cleared the diagnostic error codes which I have done in the past. It's laundry day (Saturday) !!
I suspect it'll work for a while.
Anything else I can test??

Run the Calibration Cycle portion of the on board Tests.
We just replaced the actuator and cam a few weeks ago . Got caught up on all the laundry. And now it wont agitate or spin. I can hear it trying too but it does move. Is the actuator broken again or do i need to replace that piece under the agitator?
This works on a Kenmore 500 series washing machine the spin around to normal 360° then right three, left click then right one. Works like a charm.

Hi ben. i work in hubbard ohio, i got a kenmore washer out of storage and hooked it up and all it does is lite the fill light and lock lid light..but does not attempt to fill. Just does a clicking noise. I replaced the capacitor and the water valve so far. could it be the locking lid functioning as to why it would start/ fill ect. thank you.

Hey thank you so much for this man! Mines was leaving my clothes wet and wasn’t spinning all the way. It wasn’t draining the water from the clothes. I found out that by resetting the washing machine the problem was fixed.

do you have part numbers for the major parts for this style of washer, I guess I need the clutch and or shifter , mine is not spinning at all , and just gives up with a click or something lol!
Does this work for a how to reset whirpool top load impeller washer it’s got no agitator and I still can’t get it to work it does go on but none of the touch buttons work only thing that effects the lights or changes anything is spinner one but still won’t cycle or change or let me do anything. My kenmore 22352 the blue Valve for cold water cracked. The door is locked. I tried to do the test, but it is not doing anything. Right wait half a second right right left right after full rotation counterclockwise. It does nothing. It is stocked in Locked with the lid red. I removed the lock mechanism thinking that would get me out of locked mode, but now I can't close the door and the machine still is locked. Now when the valve cracked Water did go inside the machine. so much so that it was filled with water. the motherboard is basically right next to the valves which is very dumb, but I didn't make the thing. Is it possible that the motherboard was damaged by the water or did the Machine go into a safe mode and lock the door to prevent damage. All I know Is that when I came back from work the machine was filled with water and there was water on the floor. right after that the machine is stocked in locked mode. Since I haven't replaced the part that has been damaged yet it is possible that the machine is waiting for me to activate the cold and hot water to allow me to use the reset mode? or the motherboard was damaged by the water. in other words do this machine has a mechanism that protects its electronics from water? please help. I just bought the thing 1 year ago and I have problems already the Amazon people installed it. My best guess is that when they hooked the hose for the cold water they did something to it and the small crack they left became bigger and bigger overtime until it finally broke. What if after testing everything the washer won't start a cycle?
I have this same washer and will try this to reset. My problem is a bit different in that clothes don't seem to be getting rinsed completely. My daughter is doing her laundry and using vinegar in place of softener (less gunk buildup). Problem is that we've noticed there is soap in the water even before adding soap to the wash cycle. Would this reset help anything or is there a filter that may need to be cleaned, etc? I'm disabled and unable to get behind the washer (63 years old). Sorry for the most likely stupid question.
Try to run an empty load with just pool shock in it to clean out the gunk. This might buy you time until someone can check your filters if there is any. Run it a few times this way if it's really bad. ❤😊❤
I've see this in the past and not sure if it's the same in your case but these newer machines and newer HE detergents need very very little detergent to wash your clothes .I suspect the soap you are seeing is left over soap from the previous load ,I know in my case that was the issue ,hope this helps.

Yeah, get a new switch
Sorry so late, when you lift up the lid and expose the wiring on back panel, you should see a green wire, a gray/black wire & a white wire. Leave the green wire connected just as is (ground) strip the white and gray wires and twist connect the two wires with a wire nut. Use electrical tape to wrap the new connection you just made to keep it from getting wet or damaged by surrounding components. Shut down the lid and replace all the hardware that was removed back to starting position. The washer should operate as though the lid was locked when in fact it is not locked, it was bypassed. Hope this works for you!
After I enter the manual testing mode, I pushed the start button as you did. Your “locked” illuminated, my other 5 lights just continued flashing…
I surely missed it... but how do you know if a part or cycle is not working and needs attention? After start button is pushed on code, if all the lights blink and nothing happens, does that mean it is a problem?
I can't seem to get into the diagnostic mode it's not working and it's the exact same washer

I took out my broken lid lock and then replaced it. The red locked button continues to flash and my machine won't reset. I have tried this at least 10 times correctly and still won't reset. Any suggestions as to what to do next. Thanks for any assistance

I got in diagnostic mode couple hrs ago...due to my lid lock clicking. And after getting in diagnostic mode couple times...about gave up.
Then it worked like brand new. But after another load...same lid lock situation.
My 3rd load now....after getting back in to diagnostic mode. It's running as should now.
I never take the lid lock off....cause I do not have that tool handy.
So....my question is. Do I need to replace lid lock?
Going in to error codes may send me over the edge.😢
My washer stays on lock. Every time I shut it. It doesn't let my washer work. Because it stays locked and can't open. What can I do about that.

@@ellieellie856 I had someone check it. What was wrong with mines is that. The part where it locks. There's a piece that locks and unlocks it. Mines was broken. I had to get that piece changed

Ben my washer is stuck in drain mode,no lights,no response,if I spin the basket manually it will stop trying to drain momentary.
If unplug and plug back in no lights just a pump that comes back on.

I wonder how many plants they use to make this machine. Yours has the Made in America label. Mine I bought from Lowes was made in Canada. Not that I think that's a bad thing.

Hello Ben. I'm really enjoying the depth of explanation in your videos but I have not seen one that addresses the issue I'm having with my Amana (Whirlpool) top loading washer (NTW4700YQ1). When I plug in the washer, the "Fill" light is flashing green and nothing else is responsive. If I press the Start Button, the Fill light goes out ( plus no display lights) and the drain pump activates. the pump does not stop until I unplug the washer. I've replaced the Lid Switch and tried to reset, but no response, just the flashing Fill light. I replace the Actuator (same result). I just replaced the pump thinking there could be an issue with it, but the response was the same, except that the pump sounds stronger and smoother. Could it just be a bad Master Board? I can't seem to clear the flashing Fill light.

Same for me. My washer will only respond in diagnostic mode. The lock lid light is preventing me from using the washer.
No one in the net states what happens if the lock mechanism is damaged.

Check for error codes. It may be failing out of a test needed to run the unit, like the lid lock, ect.
Mine doesn't seem to agitate
My machine has no agitator so I am beyond annoyed that such a thing was designed into these machines, especially seeing how often they seem to not only frustrate but outright fail the consumer. Arrgh!!!! So my question is, can I remove the lid lock striker as you describe here and just permanently bypass the useless lock feature?
Theoretically yes, as long as the striker is in place and the lid lock system works

Troubling to see how exactly this machine operates (very little water, intervals of cold water gets added when hot is selected, forcefully bounces clothing around rather than simply agitating them) but happy to say it works! I followed the diagnostic test. The lid lock does not light up and just keeps clicking. It won't do any other with it. Is there a way to bypass lidlocking? I usually just run washer and never open lid until wash is done anyway...

We did buy the part comparable for our machine numerous. The lid switch also and the switch does not go into the bezel. Looks to be exactly the same except the lock on the inside won't allow it to go through. Wondering if maybe it is that way until it is installed 🤷♀️

I pressed the start/pause button once I set manual mode, it's the first test

I bought a brand new Whirlpool washing machine top load haven't even got to wash a load of clothes in it repairman has been out three times already he has recalibrated everything washer don't work then he checked the the motor was getting hot so he changed that then Calibrated the washing machine washing machine still does not work I have been looking for an email address for the main corporation headquarters cannot find. It's a shame a man pays good hard-earned money and can't even wash a damn load of clothes

My lid lock won't reset. I have lid lock error faults. It won't do anything but add a little water then click the lid lock several times and that's all she wrote. I need to drain and spin what's in there.
Very poor video, after you get diagnostic mode activated! Very bad choice to go through the steps and not say what each step entails. Made this a royal pain to go over. I had to keep running it back, to write down what was going on. I only hope that when I do my diagnostics I haven't missed an important step that you left out in the no commentary section. Hope you edit this thing and put in commentary.
You're literally the first person to say this. I've made a dozen videos on the diagnostic mode. Please watch multiple of them, because this on ONLY deals with manual part testing, period.
