"And who are you, little fella?"
Join Angel as she watches John Carpenter's They Live, from 1988, for the first time! Starring the amazing Roddy Piper (AKA Rowdy Roddy Piper, in wrestling!) as the protagonist with no name "Nada" and the one-and-only Keith David as Frank, the other leading man of an incredible satire with a subtext that continues to work in this time as well as it did when the movie was made! Directed, written AND with music by John Carpenter, this movie represents his style in every way, yet it absolutely is it's own unique thing! Enjoy!
What is your favorite John Carpenter movie? This just made it up pretty high up there on the list, for me!

I have never seen it 😭 a lot of RUclips people woch the film old boy film but no 1 woch the American 1 can u please woch it
The Thing. Just can't be topped.
Probably going to be an odd man out on this one, but Christine. Something about that film has always hit me in a very distinct way. I was a bit of a quiet outcast that was made fun of and bullied growing up, so I can relate to Arnie in that movie
@@InsolentMusicalPeasant is that the remak I do love it
@@TsDwelling all good fun
Did you know Rowdy Roddy Piper and Kieth David choreographed that fight scene themselves? And they made it long so Carpenter could chop it up and use what he needed or liked the best. Thing was, he liked it so much because it was so fluid and believable he kept the entire scene. It's since gone on to be one of the longest and most realistic beatdowns in modern cinema history.
It looks so good because most of those punches were real. The only stipulation was no face or groin shots.
It was actually inspired by the fight in John Ford's "The Quiet Man" between John Wayne and Victor McLaglen.
........................................ CRIPPLE FIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- This movie seems to be so under the radar, I honestly haven't personally met anyone who knows of it - and I always thought I was fairly alone in my opinion of this being the BEST fight scene I have ever seen in a movie, to this day I still think so, there are some great awesome fight scenes, however THIS fight is so extremely believable, so raw and dirty. You feel the pain of that gritty street fighting.
Genuinely hilarious how long it goes on, like you think it's over and then nope they keep going lmao. So good
The longest fight scene in movie history is a metaphor. It represents how difficult it is to make people open their eyes to the truth around them.
Love this.
Next to Hulk Hogan, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper was one of the most influential pro wrestlers from the 80's and 90's. He had a large part in making the WWF (now WWE) a global wrestling promotion. He was one of the first heels (bad guy) to organically turn into a babyface (good guy) because he was so f'n cool and won over the fans with his insane charisma. No one could rile up a crowd like the "Hot Rod".
He briefly retired in 1987 to transition into acting, and this was one of his first roles. The "I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass" line was also completely ad-libbed by him.
He sadly passed away from a heart attack in 2015.
RIP Roddy Piper ("Rowdy" Roddy Piper), and thank you for sharing more info about his wrestling history. I love that so much. I used to watch wrestling as a kid all the time with my sister and we had a blast. I wished I remembered him, but I'm happy I got to see him in this and learn about him. He was genuinely amazing and had me smiling so much, just from pure enjoyment of his personality and delivery. It's no wonder he made up that line. Brilliant.
Thanks for your comment, watching, and the info!
And "Duke Nuke´em" stole that line...
When he was a wrestler he always wore a kilt and he would play the bagpipes. That might jog your memory, kind of hard to forget.
This is one of my FAVORITE movies that is WAY more involved than anyone gives it credit for.
Not trying to throw shade, but I guarantee it's more involved than even YOU give it credit for. Not many people see the actual Truth in this film, even if they think they do.
@@benjammin1928 You mean...its real?! I think most critical thinking people get what its about, but please enlighten us with your heightened viewpoint - please.
@@Paul_1971 Take out the phony space and sci-fi element of this movie and you have yourself a documentary. The elite and ancient races aren't in the stars above - they're under the earth below our feet. Money is your God, so stop letting it be. @William Santiago YES, and thank you for commenting/sharing that. One awesome thing about watching things on here with you guys is knowing there will be people that give things like this the credits it's due. Appreciate you watching! I'm so happy I saw it; I had never even heard of it, before starting this channel a few months ago.
The fight scene took 3 days to shoot. It was actually 5 minutes longer but they cut it down. Roddy made several films but this is the one he's most known for. His bubblegum quote is considered one of the most memorable movie lines.
@Darrell Abrams WOW. I'm so happy they took the time to shoot it, because it's truly my favorite fight scene from a movie. Perfectly done.
I'm happy I got to hear that quote. He really was incredible.
Thanks for watching and the info!
@@AngelGroves I don't think it's a great movie but bits and pieces of it are great. The glasses. It's worth seeing just for that.
The fight scene from this movie is legendary. There's a wonderful spoof of it in the video game Saints Row IV, with Keith David and Roddy Piper playing versions of themselves in the game, and providing the voices.
South Park also did a move by move version of it with Jimmy and Timmy
And Adventure Time.
The Late Roddy Piper was a great Pro Wrestler and he was a great one. I was shocked his movie career didn't explode after the fil but for what ever reason it didn't . The fight seen was great and long because Piper knew how to throw and take a punch right to the edge . You need to add Escape from New York along your Carpenter path you are on . Loved that you watched this
Yes, she definitely needs to react to Escape from New York!
He did They Live... and then Hell Comes to Frog Town... that 2nd one could have killed anyone's career.
The long fight between Nada and Frank represents Revolutionaries vs Blue Collar Labor. Always a fight to get them to see what they don’t want to see.
Actually, Kurt Russell was considered for the role, but Carpenter decided to try another actor for the lead instead and when he saw Roddy Piper on Wrestlemania 3 he decided to give Roddy the role. The "Bubblegum and kick ass" line was something Piper had come up with for a possible promo (in wrestling term meaning doing a line/monologue) and when Carpenter asked Piper If he had something to say for the bank scene, Piper showed that line and Carpenter liked it. The fight scene between Piper and Keith David was originally suppose to be shorter, but Carpenter was so impressed by their fight choreography that he decided to make it a little bit longer.
"A little bit longer"? It's one of the best fight scenes in film history.
@@Skrubb_Lord Read the facts on either imdb or Wikipedia.
The reason John Carpenter got Roddy Piper to star in this film is because Carpenter was a huge fan of pro-wrestling. He met up with Piper backstage at WrestleMania 3 and asked him if he'd be interested in starring in this movie. In fact, the "kick ass, chew bubble gum" line was adlibbed by Piper. Apparently it was one of those sayings wrestlers said to trash talk each other in their promos.
The original short story had the main character getting hypnotized, then he was told to wake up and he ended up being able to see what was really going in the world while everyone else was controlled.
Oh wow, that's awesome. I downloaded the PDF and I need to read it! Thanks!
There was an homage to this fight scene in an episode of South Park with a fight between Timmy and Jimmy.
CRIPPLE FIGHT!!
edit: The fact that Timmy and Jimmy's fight copies the same camera angles and movements as the original scene told me Trey and Matt were huge fans of They Live.
WOW. haha. I'm curious just how many references to this I've seen over the years. I can't wait to be re-watching something and be like, "that's from Carpenter's "They Live"!! So cool.
Thanks for sharing!
@@AngelGroves There was also the bubblegum line taken by Duke Nukem in the 90s.
"Big Trouble in Little China" by John Carpenter, starring Kurt Russel
Oh yes, thats a must reaction.
It's my favorite movie of his! So good. Thanks for the comment!
This movie was the perfect 80’s satire, it even more relatable now than ever unfortunately….R.I.P. Roddy Piper
R.I.P.
THE GREATEST FIGHT SCENE IN MOVIE HISTORY!!!! Truly epic. This movie is such an under-rated and unappreciated classic. Great selection Angel. I truly enjoyed re-watching this movie with you and your reaction. Roddy Piper and Keith Davd both played their parts so well, and Carpenter is a genius and a master at his craft. A true legend.
@howard andrews aw, thank you so much; your comment is so kind and I appreciate it! I'm so happy you liked the reaction and getting to re-watch it. I can't believe I'd never heard of this movie. It's SO good! And 100% with the BEST fight scene I have ever watched. It makes me smile just thinking about it, now. Done perfectly. Thanks again, for the comment!
Ray Nelson.. whose short story the movie is based on..passed Nov 2022 aged 91.
Oh, wow. I had no idea it was so recent. I'm really happy I watched this, now. Thank you for sharing this!
"The Fog" is also good one
They Live has what is considered the best fight scene in cinematic history. My favorite Carpenter movie is, well they are all good.
Honestly, I think it's a tragedy that Roddy Piper didn't get the recognition for his acting. He outperforms most oscar winners with his performance in this. From the quiet, contemplative moments, to the shock and realisation of the truth of his situation to the tired and weary hero doing what has to be done.
To get a full feel of the late great Rowdy Roddy Piper check out his wrestling interviews and promotions, he was an artist at the craft.
Best fight scene in a movie ever revolving around making someone wear sunglasses.
Classic.
Haha. Seriously!
Perfect.
Imagine if we could actually see these things with the sunglasses. They world would be nuts!
Right?!??
“stay away from the dish”. One for the books 😂😂
Another John Carpenter movie that I highly recommend is, Escape From New York (1981) starring Kurt Russell. Kurt has gone on record in saying that the character of Snake Plissken was his all-time favorite. Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid games is loosely based on him.
Carpenter really used Roddy Piper the way he did with Kurt Russell...which is interesting considering Piper mostly played a villain when he was wrestling
glad to see Boo enjoyed the movie
Meg Foster's eyes are beautiful, so is her voice.
This is right up there with my favourite Carpenter films. It's probably more relevant today than when it came out. Two Carpenter's I recommend are Big Trouble in Little China and Assault on Precinct 13.
Very first time I saw this movie I thought it was his car the way he reacted. The reason the fight sequence last so long is it was John Carpenter's Way of showcasing how hard it can be to get anyone person to see truth.
All these years and this movie still hold up.
An immediate amount of 99 billion likes for the MK shirt!
Angel, you're the greatest!
Aw. Thank you so much!!! MORTAL KOMBAT the greatest!
@@AngelGroves Great things only adorn the greatest, which is you :) (I'll try to catch up on what I've missed soon 🙏).
I'm not sure if you already heard them, but there were official tracks for MK 1, on an album (1994), before the 95 film came out. By the same guys who made the main theme.
Each character has a theme song. Kano's is epic. The Sonya Blade theme ("Sonya Blade Go Go Go") is perhaps even more and more fitting, and so it is now dedicated to you 🔥
Roddy Piper actually had that short haircut for many years earlier, this was at the time when he finally got that mullet. Yep that's the homeless guy at the couch whose been recruited but is now more cleaner, had a haircut and a goatee. I've actually been dressed as Roddy Piper's John Nada character from this movie on Halloween - got the glasses, an 80's mullet wig, the shirt and I since I'm a jeans guy I obviously had some. The glasses, the mullet wig and the shirt where so spot on, maybe not 100%, but still close enough =) You have a good point, it was like from an arcade game where you have a gun shaped controller such as House of the Dead games =)
@JW Thanks for your comment! That is SO cool you dressed like him for Halloween. I wouldn't mind dressing up like him for Halloween either, tbh, he's just such a great character and played so well.
And that's it!! You knew EXACTLY what I was talking about when said the arcade games. Nice. :)
Thanks, again, for watching and commenting. See you soon for the next video!
@@AngelGroves If you ever do dress like him for halloween I wanna see a pic 😉🙂
Keith David would later appear in Volcano and There's Something About Mary.
Just like with Clancy in Highlander..Roddy's line are just classic!
Yessss!
For anyone who grew up in the he 80's, "I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum" ranks up there as one of the best and most recognizable quotes in movie history in the same league with "I'll be back", "Adrienne", "There can be only one" and "Can you dig it?!".
A great Keith David movie to watch is Men at Work.
You commented about the music and it's probably one my favorite things about Carpenter's movies. His music has been a very heavy influence to modern dark synth. Several artists even model his specific sound to make club music.
That is so, so cool. I LOVE info like that, and it shouldn't surprise me. The music is incredible. Thanks for this!
Rowdy Roddy Piper was one of the most famous WWF wrestling superstars in the 80s. Probably second behind Hulk Hogan.
A heel everybody loved.😄
The fights a metaphor for how hard it is to wake someone up
Keith is also in Men At Work. It's hilarious
This movie was so ahead of it’s time with its satirical commentary on consumerism. It even applies to today with websites using algorithms to push ads in your face, and just how we are being manipulated on a daily basis.
A very underrated movie!
Okay, I must admit, you and Boo Hoo have got me hooked to your show.
Best to you, Angel!
This film is definitely a classic among the movies directed by John Carpenter and it certainly always gets recognition for the famous fight sequence between Piper and Keith David. In my opinion, They Live was pretty much The Matrix of its time because it certainly contained similar themes that make its viewers raise questions of their everyday reality and whether we as a society are being conditioned by a small elite class for sinister plans that we are unaware of.
3:06 "oh, i thought this was part of the song."
makes a great song 😎
Right? It fit so well.
He's such a great character.
This has the longest fight in cinematic history about 7 minutes 🤣
It's INCREDIBLE!!! hahaha
That fight scene never gets old. =‑)
I can't believe I'd never heard of it...or this movie! Brilliant.
@@AngelGroves It was too accurate, ignoring the alien part. Elites selling out the rest of humanity, subliminal messaging, and societal conditioning are actual problems.
You crack me up. Your non/delayed reactions to roddy pipers one liners made the movie so much funnier 😂
Keith David is also great in There's Something About Mary
Oh my gosh! Wow. I completely forgot. It's been so long. Thanks for sharing this!
"Step away from the dish!" 😂🤣😂🤣
LOL! It made sense!
Halloween is my favourite John Carpenter movie but you picked a classic here, that fight in the alley way is one of the best fight sequences ever filmed. Not because of the choreography but the comedy aspect and how bloody long it went on.
Right?? It's incredible...everything about it combined made it prefect. That humor in it was epic and felt SO natural. Loved it.
And Halloween was the first I ever watched of his and will always be up there for me on the list. :) Great choice.
I stumbled across you by accident and I'm so glad I did! You clearly have respect for such an iconic classic, I especially love that you liked the dialog and the music so much. Even the fight scene! I had a great time with you, I look forward to more.
You. Are. SO cool
@David Terhune Aw. Wow. You're awesome, thanks for such a kind comment! That makes me so happy you liked the reaction; this movie is so brilliant, and I can't believe I hadn't heard of it before, but I'm glad I got to watch it, now.
YES, that music is one that right this second I can start doing the beat in my head and just grin. That fight scene...I'm not sure if one can beat it, in my book. It had it all. This movie is just an all around well made movie. I've loved Carpenter's Kurt Russell movies and Halloween for so long, and I'm happy I'm getting to see his other works, now. I had NO idea I'd like all his stuff so much.
Thanks, again, for your comment, and I'll see you soon for the next video! :) I'm glad you're here at the start of the channel!
Angel and her "giggles" so cute😋😋😋
At 42:42 John Carpenter references Fake Space and Fake Gravity.
It's a Scam!
I love They Live. Saw it over 35 years ago as a boy. Also Robocop, Big Trouble in Little China, and many others. There's a lot of things in this film that mimic reality, don't cha think?
You have good taste in movies, Angel, and you also look really pretty. 🙂
Just discovered your channel yesterday.
Have a good day! Sam.
Hell to the yah! They Live is an 80's cult classic. Thanks for sharing your reaction to this great movie! The 80's ruled!
Yesss. I've always been mainly a 90's girl (with lots of 80's mixed in) since a kid, but these 80's movies I've been getting into more and more are truly amazing...I can't get enough, And THANK YOU so much for such a nice and positive comment! Love it!!!
They live ! Awesome reaction 😊
The older this movie gets, the more relevant it becomes.
The credits for Roddy was a joke and a tribute. There have been movies like My name is Nobody, or characters credited as The Man with No Name (also a movie title), so for John Carpenter's main character, he followed suit. Nada, is Spanish for nothing, so when asked what name to put in the credits for Piper's character, Carpenter simply replied Nada. Roddy was one of my favorite wrestlers when I was young. He was one of the nicest and most generous people you could ever meet. Gone too soon, RIP sir. John Carpenter wrote the music for most of his films, the man was a genius, he helped create and develop some of the early synthesizers. John's movies are great, even back to his first one, 1974's "Dark Star" (cult classic), followed by a few major films, including "The Fog" which had Jamie Lee Curtis debuting and working with her mom Janet Lee for the first time. It also starred Adrienne Barbeau, who John would use the following year in the movie "Escape From New York" which stars Kurt Russell. This is one of my all time favorites. So, I thought I'd throw those out there for you to possibly check out, they seem to be along the lines of what you like to watch. Anyway, loved the review, love you and tell Boo hi 👋.
Jamie debuted in "Halloween", despite some dayplayer work on TV.
The Thing is probably John Carpenter's best movie but he's got some absolute belters under his belt like this one. Other movies of his I'd 100% recommend would include Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, Starman, In the Mouth of Madness, Memoirs of an Invisible Man, & of course Halloween.
starman doesn't get enough love unfortunately
@ drakocarrion Yes! The Thing is up there for me too; I'm happy I finally saw it. Just so well done in every way.
Big Trouble In Little China is my favorite of his, if I had to choose, and I love both Escape from New York and L.A. (I'm a sucker for a John Carpenter/Kurt Russell movie). :)
Halloween is terrific, and was my first of his I ever watched! I really enjoy different types of "horror" movies, so it's up on my list.
I have not seen Starman or the others, though, and will have to check those out! Thanks for sharing your favorite and for the recommendations!
Perfect reaction to this sci fi movie that takes me back to my childhood. That fight between the two main characters was a huge stand out in this movie.
You've gotta add Carpenter's Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness to your list! Very underappreciated and creepy movies.
Ohhhh. Nice! Thank you so much; I'm adding them!
Slavoj Zizek did a fantastic breakdown of the alley fight scene in "The Pervert's Guide to Ideology." The point is that recognizing you are conditioned by ideology is painful and many will resist the burden of this knowledge to the point of violence. He also likes the idea that you have to put the glasses on to recognize ideology, because ideology is so pervasive that it's our de facto state of mind.
You are choosing great films! Plus you give us 50-60 mins. Love from UK
@Lee Lorenz. Aw, yay, I'm so happy you like the selections! And yes, I try to put as much in as possible for you guys. Love to you in the UK right back from here!
That's the 80s for you great lines
You might like Keith David in Men at Work and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
This is A Fantastic Movie !!! Like button crushed 😀
Note. The actor is A WWF superstar Rowdy Rodney Piper !!!
I still remember where and how I got to watch this the first time. Back in 1989, I went to a video club that was relatively new in the area. I saw the "box" and knowing nothing about the film, i decided to rent it. It was late at night and it was a fantastic experience. While the political messages were there, I always saw it first and foremost as an alien invasion sci-fi film than anything else. Still one of my top 10 movies of all time.
Also John Carpenter quickly rose to becoming my top filmmaker together with Ridley Scott, although edging him out a bit.
And Piper really really liked her eyes. That is made clear in the DVD commentary.
Hey, thanks for sharing; your comment made me so happy! I love little backstories and experiences like that. Some of my favorite experiences with movies have been similar (renting the tape or DVD/not knowing).
I feel the same with the movie. I really appreciated and enjoyed the subtext, and think he is brilliant with his writing, but the Carpenter sci-fi/alien element is my favorite part. He does all of it so well, really!
Oh cool, I really want to check out the DVD commentary, now.
Thanks, again, for sharing!
@@AngelGroves You made my day. It so good to see someone else feeling the same about this movie. Kind of tired of always hearing people giving the sci-fi plot not enough attention. Thank you.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... And I'm all out of bubblegum."
I notice your reaction times are long for the movies. That shows great care and that's why you earned my sub. Keep up the good work.
Aw. I try! That means so much that you noticed that. Thank you!! 😃
Great movie, such a classic! Love your MK shirt!
I see why this movie IS such a classic, and it's a shame I hadn't heard of it sooner.
Aw. Thanks! If it weren't for people like you guys, I wouldn't even know about Mortal Kombat! *sigh* Now, one of my all time favorites.
@@AngelGroves I love Rowdy Rodder Piper RIP, I feel like it was a great descision to cast him in this though, they wrote the character very smartly to play at Piper's strengths, namely, Talking smack and one liners from his wrestling career, so they didn't need some thespian, shakespearean actor to convey the story, and since he had tons of experience wrestling he knew how to throw punches, kicks, etc in a way that looks very real, but doesn't actually injure anyone, I'm not sure if you've seen it already but the Longest Yard remake with Adam Sandler has a bunch of wrestlers in it and it uses their physicality similarly. Also they said the long fight with Keith and Piper was made that long on purpose to show how hard it is to convince someone whos mind is already made up.
Okay, guys. Let's not forget about Meg Foster, one of filmdom's most underrated actresses. She has the most haunting, mesmerizing eyes. A rare shade of blue. I had to say it.
I don't know if anyone else ever had this talk. My personal theory is that Keith David's character in this movie is the same Childs from The Thing.
Ian McCready already had to deal with one alien invasion and while he knows that the other one is going on he just doesn't want to get involved in a second one
That fight scene in the script was page after page of blank sheets that only said "fight continues" greatest fight scene and most justifiable in movie history! I know I may be alone on this but I really don't except this as a satire. I see it as a cautionary tale. Everytime I see someone watch this for the first time with no prep, I laugh in utter enjoyment thinking back to the first time I saw it!
Loved this review! Saw this when it was released in the theater back in 1988. It was then and still remains such a great piece of sci fi/ and one of Carpenters best, perhaps most underrated movies. Rest in peace to the late great Roddy Piper.
Hey, thank you so much! I'm happy you like the review! That's so neat you saw this in the theaters then. I can't believe I'd never even heard of this movie. I agree. Truly underrated! YES, RIP Roddy Piper. Thank you so much for this comment!
Kieth David played the voice of Spawn in the old HBO series. It's good, but was only on for a couple seasons.
Three actually. I wish it had six or seven.
Another Roddy Piper classic is a film called "Hell Comes To Frog Town"
"Call da cops! You know what you need is a Brazilian plastic surgeon!" LMAO
Let’s go! This movie is described as a documentary by the director 👍
loved going to the theatre for movies great classics
They Live came out when I was in High School. It was the first movie I paid to see twice in its first run, which only lasted 2 weeks. Back then, there was no guarantee you'd see the video rental market pick up a movie like this at all, and it might be years before I'd see it again. For some equally absurd 80s weirdness, check out Alex Cox's Repo Man, 1984. A very young Emilio Estevez stars with Harry Dean Stanton in one of the great cult sci fi movies of all time. Sometimes people just explode.
As a card-carrying paranoid, ever vigilant for "Them", this is one of my favorite movies. 😎
This beats Piper's performance in "Hell Comes To Frogtown" hands down.
Thus movie was so much fun in the theater.
I came to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum, best line ever
Great movie choice. This one has been a favorite since the first time I saw it many years ago. Anyway back to watching the reaction to it 😎👍
Aw. Thank you! Yess... man, this movie was so much fun, and just well done in every way. See you for the next video!
John Carpenter the master of horror ,never made a bad film .
If you watch some of Roddy Pipers old interviews and of course Piper's Pit, you can see a lot more of his hilarious lines.
I totally loved your reaction. Totally subscribed. You're amazing, beautiful and intelligent! This is one of my favorite movies of all time. And never gets old and like you said it's a message that it's just as true now as it was then and it will continue to be. At least until people wake up and begin to change life is going to continue on this horrid spiral that we live in. Humanity as a whole needs to grow up and change otherwise we're going to lose this beautiful Blue Marble that we live in. Peace, live, laugh, love. ❤
South Park spoofed the fight between Piper and Kieth using two crippled characters. They matched it blow for blow in a ridiculously long and funny scene.
If you are a Keith David fan then Men At Work (1990) is a must watch.
awesome movie, glad that you liked it :)
It really is. 🙂
I saw this for the first time probably in the early 90s when it was first released onto television. They edited a lot when they did that. Now I have it on DVD.
Great movie and reaction. I just realised that the lady playing Holly is Meg Foster - she has such piercing eyes.
Great social commentary, way ahead of it's time.
"I'm all out of Bubble gum!!!"
I was 8 years old, watch this movie on vcr😊😊😊good movie love it😊😊😊
May favorite Carpenter movie is The Fog (1980), even better than Halloween for me.
Yeah... the fight scene is considered one the very best choreographed fight scenes in any movie.
John Carpenter has always had interesting ideas, no matter if his characters are aliens, vampires, or alien planet ghosts.
I'm quickly learning that. I'm happy I had already loved all the ones I had seen of his with Kurt Russell, and the first Halloween movies. Now, that list just keeps growing with every new one I watch. I've like them all, so far! He's terrific.
If you like Keith David, have I got a deal for you! Ha! Just kidding, but I do have a personal favorite that he's in that I can't get anyone to react to, but I saw you're reaction to "Parenthood", so maybe you'd be open to it. "Article 99" is a movie about a veterans hospital from the 90s, directed by Howard Deutch, that has a pretty amazing ensemble cast of Kiefer Sutherland, Ray Liotta, Lea Thompson, Forest Whitaker, John C McKinley, John Mahooney, and then some, and Keith David plays a Vietnam Vet in it.
I don't know if Keith David ever really was in Vietnam. I don't think he was, but he's been in Vietnam movies or played a Vietnam vet enough times. He was in Oliver Stone's "Platoon", which is a classic if you haven't seen it. He was in "Off Limits", which is an 80s flick I like where Willem Dafoe and Gregory Hines are military police detectives trying to solve murders in Saigon during the war. He played a Vietnam vet in "Men At Work" which was a wacky indy comedy with brothers Charlie Sheen and Emilio Esteves from the 90s. That's just a few that came to mind that you might want to check out.
