What's your favorite Ryan Gosling movie?? Also, leave suggestions of other movies you think have cool vibes like this one! Thanks for being here!
The grey man ❤️ it’s a pretty enjoyable movie but I wouldn’t go into it expecting anything other than an enjoyable time
Check out the nice guys with gosling and Russell Crowe, it is absolutely hysterical.
You asked about other movies with a similar vibe... You may want to check out Gosling's directorial debut with Lost River. It has a lot of the same cinematography and musical influences that this movie has, with a similar sort of mesmerizing vibe. It stars the same woman that helped with the pawn shop heist in this movie, I forget her name off hand.
A History of Violence (2005) (Virgo Mortensen) is probably the closest to this one, in terms of the main character... but the movie is not about cars/driving... different movie somewhat... but also a similar movie too
Lost Rivet director by Ryan Gosling,. The only movie he has directed. Has great music, Johnny Jewel did the score who is apart of a Band named the Chromatics. Which do the song at the beginning of Drive. When he is try to get away from the cops. A other film that you should check out is movie called The Neon Demon
directed by the same guy that did Drive. A other film you should check out is Promising Young woman with Carrie Mulligan
Im convinced this movie ushered in the retrowave sound to the masses with Kavinsky's Nightcall. Such a great soundtrack. Such a great movie.
Yes, then Hotline Miami (the game) was created as a direct result of the devs having been inspired by this movie. I agree with your theory :)
Agreed. Saw this in cinema back when it came out, and kavinsky surely has something to do with that. Basically all of the weekend's latest tracks.
I listened to it before 🤷♂
@@sircdrom Love that game!
Nightcall is beyond brilliant....thank you so much for this comment ( which I know you wrote 11 months ago, now...I apologize it's been so long since I've been online)!
27:25 I love this scene. The way he pulls her away from the darkness into the light, as to protect her. Then giving her a goodbye kiss because he knows his about to reveal his true self to her and there's no turning back..
...I can't tell you how much I like that scene...honestly. It's one of those scenes where my emotions are overwhelmed (in the best way), and I really can't describe it. Thanks for this comment. Also, I know this comment is from 11 months ago, so I apologize for just now seeing it/ getting back after my break. I appreciate you!
"The nice guys" and "the place beyond the pines" are gems.
I haven't seen either one of those, but def will soon. They've been on my list for a while, now. Thank you so much!
Man, Ryan Gosling in Drive was every quiet, introverted dudes fantasy role-model a decade ago lol
@johnnyjohnny-cg7np it is still
LOL I see why
I remember going to watch this alone one night in the city. The theater was almost empty. So cool. I felt like the driver all the way home. Without the music, jacket, or car, but still.
Oh, wow. I love stories like this. I understand exactly what you mean. Some of my favorite movie experiences ever have been alone. So great. I can only imagine seeing this one n theaters. I hope they bring it back to theaters again soon. Thanks so much for this comment. I apologize it's been so long since I've been online, but I'm so happy to be back, and I love seeing these comments. :)
The shot when Irene (Carey Mulligan) exits the elevator, horrified, after Driver (Ryan Gosling) stomps that guy to death is so perfect. The back of Driver’s jacket fills half the frame as he is breathing heavily, making the scorpion look alive. As she stares back him in shock. It’s such a subtle, beautiful touch. A visual metaphor that the scorpion has been awakened.
Also, to answer your question about favorite Ryan Gosling films, to me are "The Place Beyond the Pines" (2012), "The Nice Guys" (2016), "La La Land" (2016), "Blade Runner (2049)" (2017) and now actually am excited to see "Barbie" that is coming out this year. I am sure I will laugh my ass off watching him play Ken.
The Nice Guys, for sure
Wow, haven't seen anybody react to this in a while, the music score alone is worth it, Great choice Angel! And thank you!
Hey! I know it's literally been 11 months since you posted your comment, but I wanted to say thank you! I took a break, and I haven't seen any comments in a while! This movie and score is one that will always be one of my favorites, after watching it. :) I appreciate you being here!
The opening of this movie could be a standalone short film all by itself it's so good.
Well, said....seriously.
One thing I love about Drive is that the protagonist is extremely autism coded, without having it mentioned nor having it be his entire schtick. It's really nice representation. Ryan Gosling tends to gravitate towards a lot of those roles. His work in the movie Lars and the Real Girl was incredible.
Thanks for the love! As Ryan's former stand-in, I approve of this amazing reaction! Miss you!
Taylor! The one and only!!! Aw. Hi, poppet. I'm just now back online seeing comments from before I took the big break. You deserve all the love, always. I couldn't ask for a more epic friend. Thanks for being you, man, and I can't wait to see you/ work together again on set...it's been too long!! Miss you too.:)
I often hear movie reactors apologize for not speaking during certain scenes. I want to tell them that non-verbal reactions are entertaining too. Visible facial expressions during emotional scenes can convey a lot and reassure the audience you’re connecting with a movie internally. This is important for non-plot dense and “how does it make you feel?” Type movies like this one. Excellent reaction btw.
Hey, thank you so much. I know it's been 11 months since you posted your comment, but it's only because I took such a long break not too long after posting this. I appreciate your comment a lot....seriously, thank you.
Ryan Gosling's character is very similar to the character in the movie The Driver (1978). Thank so much for reacting to this movie. It is truly an underrated gem.
I loved this movie, and nice. :).I'll have to check "The Driver" out sometime. I'm sorry it's been 11 months since you posted your comment; I haven't been online in so long, due to having taken a break. Thank you for being here!
I took a date to this movie when it came out and she freaking hated it. I, on the other hand, found a mountain of new music by playing the soundtrack radio suggestions on Spotify and have been listening to it ever since. Love this movie
She hated it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Oh no....I support everyone's opinions...but ugh. LOL Like you said, on the other hand, you found the soundtrack. So it was worth it! lol Such a great, beautiful movie
Nikolas Winding Refn is an outstanding movie maker. He made a foreign language trilogy with Mads Mikkelsen called Pusher. Can recommend for anyone who is willing to read subtitles. Refn also made another one with Ryan Gosling called "only god forgives", its more artsy and maybe not as good as Drive some would say but its still very good.
yes, love this movie! So much is said and conveyed, with so few words, and love the plot twist reveal of his true character, too, grins ("talk softly and carry a big stick")
some commercial somewhat recently used this movie's music in it... but can't remember what commercial it was...
The soundtrack for this movie has been a staple of my musical library for years. I spent countless nights driving home from work on the 101 when I lived in Oregon listening to these songs. Other movies by this director Nicolas Winding Refn have a similar vibe but very different types of stories. Only God Forgives and Neon Demon mainly come to mind.
This is one of those moves that gets lost within the genre it belongs to. Baby Driver I believe borrowed heavy from this film. What makes this film so mesmerizing is the lighting, cinematography, music, and top tier acting. The non sexual yet intimate love story grips you and takes you on a beautiful journey to the films end. The editing and directing was perfect for this film. The night scales of downtown LA with the music makes you appreciate the city more. Amazing movie and one that I go to when I’m alone on a Friday night chilling with a bottle of Johnie Walker Blue and a blunt of Yoda Brains.
One of the best soundtracks ever!
1,000,000,000% So, SO good. omg.
One of my friends was on the Nice Guys set discussing this film with Ryan Gosling. Ryan told him someone did an alternate soundtrack to the movie that apparently works just as well.
You can tell the director of Drive was inspired by the TV show Miami Vice from the 80’s with Don Johnson. Miami Vice was way ahead of it’s time, it was called a MTV Cop show with the hottest Music and Fashion.
This movie, along with Lost in Translation, hold a special place in my heart. The soundtracks are so all encompassing and beautiful and it REALLY sucks you into the film and transports you to another place.
I would highly suggest it.
YES! Angel, check out Lost in Translation if you haven't. The music and shots are so good. Hopefully we get to see your reaction too.
That's one I've never seen, but after reading your comment, I def will have to check it out! Thank you! and sorry it;s been so long since you posted your comment, for me to see it. I took a long break, but I'm really happy to be back! Thanks for being here!
@@AngelGroves No problem, I hope you enjoy it. Glad you're back!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm always looking up if there's
new Drive reactions on RUclips😆 In my top 5 for sure!
This movie has a great vibe, it's a relaxed atmosphere and then all the carnage kicks in. Ryan Gosling did a great job of playing a mysterious character that could be categorized as mythic yet dangerous. He gave a total James Dean vibe. 😎
I love all the music in this movie. Some of the instrumental parts reminded me of Tangerine Dream (whenever I see that TD have done music for a movie I always try to track it down to watch).
I appreciate the quiet parts of Drive. The scene at 13:20 where Gosling and Mulligan are in the apartment by the window, barely speaking and just looking at each other is perfect. Other movies would have cut that down but the director let it breathe.
This movie is a masterpiece, some of the shots, the acting, the sound, is achingly good, showing what cinema is capable of. Glad you liked it; I have to give you credit for not only Death Proof but Warriors (!) as references - nice job! I enjoyed your reaction.
People got pissed off at this movie and walked out of the theater, because they thought it was going to be a Fast And Furious movie after they watched the trailer to the film by showing the Car chase scenes.
Those people were foolish...
One person even tried to sue, but obviously lost because she didn’t have a case and was also dumb
I've said this elsewhere, but it bears repeating- I am actually surprised a film like 'Drive' got made. It is emblematic of a type of man that used to be appreciated by our culture, but is now hated. Nearly 100 years go C.S. Lewis gave a brilliant description-
“The knight is a man of blood and iron, a man familiar with the sight of smashed faces and the ragged stumps of lopped-off limbs; he is also a demure, almost maidenlike, guest in a hall, a gentle, modest, unobtrusive man. He is not compromise or happy mean between ferocity and meekness; he is fierce to the nth and meek to the nth. The man who combines both characters - the knight - is not a work of nature but of art; of that art which has human beings, instead of canvas or marble, for its medium.”
Long before this film existed, or I even read this quote, this is the the kind of Man I have tried to be. The cost has been great, but I have no regrets.
there's no other movie that feels quite like Drive. It's simply gorgeous and I love it every time.
While on my second watch of this, I unknowingly focused on the jacket he was wearing throughout. It reminded me of The Scorpion And The Frog story.
The kiss in the elevator is my favourite scene. At the end with him standing under a red light and her a blue light was so poetic!
The money man is actor/director Albert Brooks. He voiced Nemo's father in the Finding Nemo movies, and his movie Defending Your Life, co-starring Meryl Streep, is well worth watching.
Brooks should have been Oscar nominated for this.
Such a great film. Ryan just mesmerizes you in this film. Idk how else to explain it
Great edit, I'm surprised it got past copyright. I love this movie. I would say that the soundtrack and cinematography are really amazing, but really every aspect of it is just top notch so it's not fair to just single out those two things. I never saw the trailer, but I've heard that it gave the impression of a much more action packed thrill ride, and as a result disappointed a lot of people who went to see it with that expectation. I can completely understand that, but for me it was perfect. Hope you're back to full health soon.
Thank you SO much, for this comment. I know it's been 11 months, but I'm so happy to be back after my break, and I appreciate you being here! This movie means a lot to me. it's one of my favorites that I've reacted to on the channel. Like you said, the soundtrack and cinematography are AMAZING. Perfect.

There are certain movies that I think of more as mood pieces. This is one of them.
Absolutely. Well, said.
As preparation for the film, he worked at a garage and they malibu he drives most of the time he took apart and put back together.
Oh, neat!
Incredible movie, I was blown away when this came out and I watched it for the first time. Nice reaction
Drive is a Beautiful movie the way it is shot. Light and shadow are Amazing including a Great soundtrack.
sometimes silence means much more than talking....u can also speak thru your eyes.....
the soundtrack is fantastic,u can really feal the 80s vibe💥💥
Drive is definitely a superhero movie.
it came out before Baby driver but wayyyy after Walter hill's Driver ;)
i seen this when it came out...i was amazed...i listened to the soundtrack for weeks.
I see why....it is incredibly brilliant...the soundtrack is good for the soul
Great video! Another movie with Ryan gosling you really should check out is
” The place beyond the pines ”
The cinematography of it is absolutely beautiful and it’s very similar to this movie too. It’s a masterpiece. Please consider watching it!
Sometimes a movie just completely vibes with you. This is one of these for me.
1,000,000%
If you havent, watch nice guys. Totally underrated buddy cop/detectives movie. And shows his comedic timing and an opposite side of him. I also like Bladerunner the new one.
You can tell this film has some grindhouse moments, especially the one scene where the redhead gets shot in the head through the door with a shotgun. Unbelievable!
This is such a great movie and I love Ryan Gosling and kind of film like this.
Only God Forgives has this same vibe within a Thai crime drama. People don't seem to like it much but it's hypnotic just like Drive
Oh, cool. Thanks so much for the recommendation! I'm happy to be back, after my long break. :)
Forgot to mention really liked the review and the respect she paid for important scenes during the movie. Subscribed and great job 👍
Thank you so much! I'm sorry it's been so long since I've been on the channel! I took a long break, but I'm really happy to be back.
You know, you might enjoy Streets of Fire (1984), its another movie that uses the soundtrack as a main part of the story.
Thank you, for the recommendation!
Place beyond the pines is another great Ryan Gosling film
I can't wait to watch it!
Hello from Oregon, I love this movie and soudtrack . Thank you young lady!

Aw. Thank you!!! :)
*Movies that inspired **_Drive:_* _Vanishing Point_ (1971), _Two-Lane Blacktop_ (1971), and _The Driver_ (1978).
Thank you!!!
one of my favourite films of all time
The grey man is another Ryan gosling movie it’s pretty enjoyable
Oh one more comment: I think if you watch it again, you might agree with me that the elevator kiss didn't actually happen, it only happened in his mind. The light changes to very surreal (similar to what they did in the movie Buffalo '66) and he takes his time moving her over and taking such a long kiss, there's no way that would happen with this gangster standing right there (who would likely use the opportunity to kill them). Which I suspect means, the two of them never kissed. We see them hold hands in the car on their "date," we see them look at each other, but I suspect if they had kissed the filmmaker would've shown us. She slaps him, but their kiss remains his fantasy, and now he's gone, back into the wind.
Drive is absolutely one of my favorite movies ever along with a place beyond the pines and a little tidbit about the movie a place beyond the pines was filmed locally around where I'm at in New York
The Champlain and keeseville Buffalo area in New York are heavily and extensively used for filming for the movie a place beyond the pines and it is in my opinion one of Ryan gosling's best works right up there with Drive
I can't wait to see A Place Beyond the Pines! Thanks for being here and for the comment. :)
angel is a lovely and adorable person, thanks por your reaction!!!!!!
You're so kind! Thank you!
G'day Angel 😇 Fantasmagorical movie reaction 🎉 I've been in hospital 🏥 for two weeks I had an eadema of my right leg was leaking had a lot of fluid build up in hospital lost 25 kgs of water weight home now getting better , thank you for being you ❤
i hope you enjoyed the film, i worked really hard on it (i'm literally Ryan Gosling)
Very nice reaction - no problem w you being under the weather for this (tho of course I hope you feel better) - but your response had a dazed quality that was both understated and emotional at the same time - and the result was that it was like you came directly out of this movie - you praised the vibe, and your reaction actually had the same vibe as the movie lol - re other movies, the film-maker you're looking for is Michael Mann, who epitomizes this vibe - Heat is his most famous - also see Thief, Manhunter, Last of the Mohicans, Insider, and Collateral - also see Wong Kar Wai, esp In the Mood for Love and Ashes of Time; generally Hong Kong films from 80s - you might like Deep Cover - also check out Davids Lynch and Cronenberg - and for a dose of pure beauty see La Jetee
Hey, you're so nice! I appreciate you, and I also appreciate the recommendations. It;s been a while since I've been online, and it's nice to be back!
I can't understand why your videos don't get more views, I really really enjoy your reactions and your choice of films! If you like Drive, I recommend the Pusher Trilogy by the same director, especially Pusher 3 is a gem and one of my favorite movies.

Hey Angel how are you? Awe feel better. Hope youre ok. Drive is a fun movie. Funny youre reacting to Drive since they just released the Barbie trailer he's Ken 😅
Brilliant noir inspired film.
Recently watched a film about the history of the use of music in film, and how critical an element it is. Dating back to silent movies.
Interviews with the Giants in the industry, John Williams, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer....
Can make or break a film.
Movie with goated soundtrack, it was my opening door to synthwave

I'm new to your channel, I enjoyed watching your reaction of drive,I recently watched drive and really thought it was great,I really like the song real hero, also your video on the warriors movie I really enjoyed, big thumbs up.
this movie gave me Hotline Miami vibes.
You mention 2049, which was Villeneuve. We need more European directors for action films. We've seen what Verhoevan (and now Refn) can do.
Great movie, great reaction. Thanks! This and Blade Runner 2049 are my favourites, but The Place Beyond The Pines is really good too and I'd love to see your reaction to it.
This is an amazing movie. It’s a slow burner so some people don’t like it. Same with Blade Runner 2049 but they’re both great films. The director nailed this but then he wrote and directed his next two and his writing sucks. Too bad. Great reaction though. Soundtrack is kickass.
well, said!
One of my favorite movies ever. I genuinely hope that you're doing alright. (Seen that you haven't uploaded in 3 months)

Also I really enjoy your content
One of if not my favorite movie soundtracks. Up there with The Crow, Into The Wild, Lost Boys, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
some car movies:
(not ranked, just listed)
1. Fast and Furious franchise (tokyo drift is the only good one though)
2. Speed Racer
3. Drive
4. Death Race
5. Need for Speed
6. Baby Driver (Drive is so much better)
7. Gone In 60 Seconds (this was the forerunner for the entire fast and furious franchise)
8. The Italian Job
9. The Transporter (1+2 only, as 3 is total krap)
10. Mad Max: Fury Road
11. Back to the Future trilogy
12. Drive Angry
13. Die Hard franchise
14. Ghost Rider (motorcycle, not a car, but it still belongs)
Angel Groves, I don't know if you've reacted to Scorsese's seventies classic _Taxi Driver_ but I can't help feeling that _Drive_ is partly homage to that film: both feature a lonely man who drives for a living and ends up wanting to save a young woman (Irene isn't miles away from Iris) while we (the audience) deal with moments of extreme violence and moral ambiguity. Yes, there are differences, but if you haven't seen _Taxi Driver_ you might like it.
Drive borrows aspects from Scorsese's Taxi Driver, Walter Hill's The Driver, Sam Peckinpah's The Getaway, Michael Mann's Thief and John Carpenter's Halloween.
Hey! Thank you so much for your comment, and I apologize it's taken me so long to see it. I'm happy to be back from my long break,...finally!!! Taxi Driver is one I actually own on VHS, but still haven;t seen. Terrific recommendation.
@@AngelGroves No worries. We all need to recharge now and again. I hope you continue to react to some less obvious films and older classics. We're so fortunate to have an almost endless treasure trove of movies to visit and revisit. I won't say much more about _Taxi Driver_ as it's best watched without too many preconceptions. It happens to be one of my absolute favourite movies, for what it's worth. 🙂

Unless you want a super hard watch, don’t look up where this song is from
…Spoiler: It’s from Adio Zio Tom, or ‘Goodbye Uncle Tom’, an Italian faux-documentary where a film crew goes back in time to document the antebellum slave trade ‘on-location’. The original Italian version features intercut documentary scenes detailing the current day societal effects of slavery, while the English dub has extended scenes that make the film even more inflammatory by adding macabre humor to the horrors.
It’s hardcore, to say the least.
Very, very brutal.
Fantastic film, but only if you’ve got the guts and most certainly not for the channel.
Best soundtrack ever 😊👍🏻🎹
So great
Wonderful reaction as usual. Just realized you and I both have the same limited edition Band of Brothers metal box set.
