I'm looking to get a 4K TV... Anyone got a suggestion for the best 4K TV for the price this Black Friday/Cyber Monday?!?!
😎CONSUME & OBEY 😎
I picked up a 55inch Sony 4k tv x85k with 120 refresh rate on Amazon for $698. I thought it was a decent deal. I already own a bigger one that is a 240 refresh that I use in the family room. This new one is going in my gaming room/office.
Sony are the best but very pricy. The Lg C2 oled is a very nice tv and great bang for buck.
LG OLEDs, the C2 and A2 are great, especially for movies with HDR/Dolby Vision. Price-y but worth it
So nice that you both do a documentary for a change. 😆
I've had a few 4K TV's over the years. I decided to upgrade to an LG OLED for my birthday this past July, as prices were falling for these high end 4K TV's. OLED is defininitely what you want. When you find one, check the reviews on sites like PCMAG, CNET, or RTINGS. All 4K TV's are not equal. OLED is currently the best technology for 4K TV's you can buy!🙂
The longest, most difficult fight scene represents how hard it is to make other people see the truth.
I've been struggling with that in the past 2 years!
@@dt1056 Been at it for 30+ years. Nobody listens.
And a lot of it was real, it was supposed to last only 20 seconds but Roddy and Keith decided to go for it. No groin shots or hits to the face were their only rules.
There are more and more of us who realise it is far more difficult than that for people whose world view is formed by TV
It's easier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled.
I remember having a discussion with a co-worker who was in their late 50s and they had a position on an issue that was very much implanted there by various institutions let's say. I made a case for the otherside on the matter and she agreed that I was correct. The very next day she was back to her original stance and acted like we never had the discussion. I've come to the conclusion that people either find their own way or stay oblivious.
BEST one liner EVER - "I have come to chew bubble gum, and to kick ass. And I'm all out of bubble gum." He improvised that line, too.
The line comes from a notebook of lines that Roddy Piper wrote for wrestling one liners. He gave it to John Carpenter and John decided that he liked the bubblegum line best.
I like how Duke Nukem took that line and made it his own with "It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum And I'm all out of gum"
@@The_Blue_Otaku Duke said it better
I absolutely love Piper's character in this movie. He found out aliens were controlling humanity and immediately started fighting them. No hesitation
They should definitely make a good movie about Roddy Piper's life. He was an interesting guy from wrestler to actor. He had that commanding presence every time he entered a room. Nobody could dare take their eyes off him. Such a talent that died way too soon. Rest in peace Rowdy Roddy Piper.
He was my all time favorite wrestler... #HotRod
👍💯
A few years bk I heard mark wahlberg was gonna play him but it obviously fizzled out.
He seemed to predict his own death in a interview with John Carpenter and his wife on his podcast Piper Pits.
@@elskeletor3566 He certainly did. That was a great Podcast he was doing I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I love how John Carpenter took a shot at Siskel and Ebert at the end.
Siskel And Ebert Suck Roger Ebert Seem To Be The More Intelligent Of The Two Gene Siskel Was A Idiot It Was So Stupid When They Got All Outrage At Horror Movies Especially Slasher Movies Talking About How There Corrupting The Youth And Are Misogynistic Towards Women There Just Movies You Idiots
Interesting facts about They Live (1988) (1) Carpenter brought real "homeless folks" into the production for several scenes and smaller characters and gave them food as well as paychecks. "I thought that was a pretty classy thing to do," says Piper. (2) The line "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum" was ad-libbed by Roddy Piper. According to director John Carpenter, Piper had previously written the line in his notebook of potential verbal bits during his wrestling career. He shared the notebook with Carpenter, and they agreed that this particular line fit the character and the film perfectly. Piper went on to use it at a wrestling match. (3) Roddy Piper, being a married man at the time of filming, refused to take his wedding band off. That's why in several scenes you can see a wedding ring. (4) Roddy Piper quit the WWF to make this film. (5) The scene where the police attack and destroy the homeless encampment was difficult for Piper to shoot as it reminded him of similar events he witnessed in his own life. "It was a painful scene for me," he says.
Didn't know some of these facts thanks for sharing this.
Roddy Piper sounds like an amazing man to me, hope his wife treated him well 🙏
Amazing movie and so far ahead of it's time! The themes here (media manipulation, social conditioning, elites stripping away our freedom without us even noticing) are all resonate, especially today. Plus that alleyway fight scene is so good!
Yep the "news" is 100 percent fictional and the rest of the media is loaded with social conditioning for whatever agenda they are pushing, has been since the invention of the teLIEvision. Half of history and "science" is nothing but Lies to instil fear and compliance in the population and hide the perpetrators from justice
You're right, it absolutely does still resonate to this day. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was "ahead of its time," though. The theme of this movie fit in with the 1980s Reganomics' era perfectly.
It is the perfect allegory for todays globalist run world.
@@benjauron5873 yea literally at the time that this was taking a hug grasp on America. Reagan ended FCC regulations on advertising and companies started going crazy to make TV shows and commercials one and the same. It's where we started to see a real blurring of media and corporate propaganda.
I have a thing where I wanted to start a discussion on how “They Live”, “Demolition Man”, and “Idiocracy” connect and explain what our society is like…… basically a deep philosophical dive connecting this movie and two other great movies
Good idea but it's way deeper than anything you'd ever get on one of these superficial reaction channels. You should do it thought. Sounds like it has potential.
You"have a great thing"
....What in the hell are your talking about??
"Americathon" is closer to becoming true.

I always loved the hell out of Keith David's acting. Always thought he has been the most tragically overlooked actor.
This movie made me fall in love with Meg Foster's eyes, they are so damn unique and hypnotising. Even today, they still catch me, whenever I see her in some show or an old movie. And she will always be the one true Evil-Lyn for me. Great review you guys, thanks a lot, you made my day.
It's impossible to not think she's not Evil in everythin she's in. lol
She played Evil-Lyn in The Masters of the Universe movie with Dolph Lundgren.
Didn't need any contacts for that makeup either.
This is hands down the weirdest comment I've ever read ... people are truly bizarre. ...

Another fun 80's sci-fi that you may enjoy is 'Night of the Comet'.
Yeah, Comet is a great one - "Daddy would have gotten us Uzis!"
Great suggestion!
Yes!!!!
Yes! Robert Beltran, (Chakotay from ST:Voyager), in an early role.
John Carpenter originally got into filmmaking to make westerns, because that was his passion, ironically he never made an actual western but a lot of his movies could be called contemporary westerns, and this one maybe most of them all. Roddy Pipers name (Nada) being a direct homage to the "Man with no name" from Clint Eastwoods spaghetti westerns.
Interesting
"Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the question"..... Rowdy Roddy Piper, 1954-2015, R.I.P.......
Great movie! For not having a film career Roddy was great! And I can't say enough about Keith David, my all time favorite character actor. He's always excellent in everything.
Rumor is they traded acting lessons for battle lessons.
There's a South Park episode called "Cripple Fight" which has a complete reproduction of the fight scene in this movie! And Keith David never got the recognition he deserved as an actor.
I think Holly used the glasses that he tried to get her to wear to fake as if she was one of the resistance in order to find more of them, but I think she was recruited by the aliens the entire time.
Roddy Piper is Canadian and used to be nicknamed "The Parkdale Pugilist" after the Toronto neighbourhood he trained as a boxer in when he was younger. I remember seeing him fight "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, "Cowboy" Bob Orton and Hulk Hogan in Toronto and while Hogan was at his peak popularity and the cheers were almost deafening when he came out, the cheers for Piper got even louder.
Def one of the most underrated films of all time! Fight scene alone should of got an Oscar.
As a horror movie lover and wrestling fan, this hits a great chord. Hot Rod was great in this
She got exceptionally good at predicting stories. It's time to show her Mulholland Drive.
She is amazing, not sure how many plot twists or storylines during their movie reactions she predicted (or figured it out), but she's always right!
No. You have to start with _Eraserhead._
Part of me thinks she's seen the movies/tv shows before, but I used to do the same thing.
i vote for Mulholland Drive
One movie nobody reacts to yet is perfect for reactions is Identity, great psychological thriller/mystery largely overlooked.
Yes, Roddy Piper was Canadian. Most people don't know he was Canadian, so pretty impressive you picked up on it right off the bat basically. Also, this movie was so ahead of its time and is one of the best sci-fi with "something to say" movies ever, and easily one of if not the best fighting scene in a movie ever as Mr. Movies said.
Yes wwf can make anyone any nationality
He was born in Canada but did have some Scottish roots in his family.
The theme tune was written for Roddy's walk.Keith David said he would do the fight scene only if Roddy taught him some wrestling moves.
He was actually playing the harmonica. They talk about it on the commentary (Piper says he's bad, Carpenter argues lol). RRP was very musical, he played not only the bagpipes and harmonica, but piano and guitar.
I like to think that Keith David's character is Childs after returning from Antartica and he knows but doesn't want to get involved in another alien incident after what happened in ANtartica and "the THing'.
So much fun! I've really been looking forward to this one. It didn't disappoint! I'm happy the mister holds it in as high a regard as I do, and the missus never fails to amaze me with her precog abilities. It really is the perfect Black Friday movie!
One of my favorite low budget movies with a simple direct message. Plus Rowdy Roddy Piper is awesome.
This movie is a masterpiece. Anything by Carpenter from 70s and 80s is too damn good. A sci-fi horror classic!
a masterpiece? Citizen Kane is a masterpiece
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 It is...and so is this. Two different genres, within two different eras. You can't compare the two, but it's easy to see they're both masterpieces.
@@samspade8830 it's not close to being a masterpiece. it's just a dumb macho dude movie with a non-actor. and it's like Carpenter wrote it in 5 minutes
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 That's your opinion. Not mine though.
"They Live!" (alternate title: "Earthlings Get Rowdy!"): proof that a film doesn't have to be great to be iconic. If my bubble gum weren't handy, I'd say a whole lot more...
Like many people, I initially didn't notice the wedding ring Roddy wears in the movie. He was married and refused to take it off, even for filming.
Meg Foster's eyes with that red hair, I am so in love.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum."
"Mama don't like tattletales."
"Brother, life's a bitch, and she's back in heat."

The short story this is based on is titled "Eight O'clock In The Morning. The title makes sense when you read the story. I read it some years ago in a book that compiled Sci-Fi short stories that were adapted into movies. Another story in the book was "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell, written back in the 1930's. That story was made into "The Thing", first in 1951 and then in 1982.
Two great stories there. It would be nice if they knew this stuff or at least did the research to find out. Just watching movies and then spending two minutes saying "Yeah, that was pretty good" or "Eh, it was okay", or whatever is lazy and not worth watching.
Yet, here you are watching and commenting… a lot…
We are far from lazy. Mrs Movies has a full time job in the public sector, and I edit a video every day to share with people who enjoy (or don’t enjoy) them. We watch these after putting our two beautiful daughters to bed every night. So time for research outside all that is included in the above is hard to find. Plus I like her to go into something blind without knowing much. Helps for her to try and figure things out on her own.
If you don’t like our videos fine. But you don’t have to be so negative and disrespectful to us with every comment you give. It’s a little weird how much time you spend commenting about something you apparently don’t like. Try to put positive things into the universe and find things that you do enjoy. You’ll be much happier for it.
@@YouMeTheMovies I think sheriff brackett is confusing a reaction channel(which I love) with a review channel.
Hey, Mr. & Mrs.! Great pick! Great reaction! This sci-fi satire is a Carpenter fan favorite!
This was a condemnation of Reaganomics and capitalism-run-amok but it's still happening today! Star 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper, a former wrestler, called the film a documentary! That's brilliant.
The protracted fight scene in the alley over the glasses between Roddy Piper and Keith David was famously parodied on "South Park"!
"I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum." became part of the contemporary lexicon after this movie.
Keith David is one of those actors who elevates anything he's in. He has such a distinctive rumbling voice. I had the good fortune to run into him at a Broadway show years ago. I was tongue-tied and nervous but he was kind enough to give me his autograph.
He co-starred with Kurt Russell in Carpenter's "The Thing".
Meg Foster has the spookiest eyes; a pair of piercing pale blue beauties that look right into your soul.
Peter Jason, the leader of the cell who runs the Hooverville, appears in 7 John Carpenter films! George "Buck" Flower, the bum turned collaborator, appears in 6.
Mr. Flower began his career in soft-core porn, became a genre mainstay usually playing bums in scores of films, appeared on dozens of popular TV shows and is best known for his association with John Carpenter. His role as the opportunistic hobo in "They Live!" is probably his best showcase.
Mr., please show the Mrs. Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13"!
"Muscle would keep you warm though?" " ... I gues you wouldn't know." LOL!!! Take me to the burn unit!!! Mrs. Movies is on FIRE!!!!
"hell comes to frog town" piper's 2nd best film. Bubble gum line was ad lib, done in one shot. Piper had regrets the line immediately afterwords and surprised it became epic.
Roddy Pipper the world's most determined sun glasses sales man!
Just a couple of alternative title options (off the top of my head):
▪︎ 'Subliminal'
▪︎ 'The Overloads'
▪︎ 'They Control'
▪︎ 'Sleepers'
▪︎ 'They Live [Amongst Us]'
“Guess you wouldn’t know” I actually gasped you two are hilarious 😂
They Live is one of those titles you always remember when you first here it, even if you never watch the movie. It has an ominous quality that sticks with you. But if I had to rename this movie I would go for something simple and straight to the point like, "They Are Here".
-All of those homeless were actual homeless.
John hired them so they'd get regular meals and some money.
-The design of the aliens and them being revealed in B&W, are a love letter to B-movies of the 50's.
-This was John's response to *Reaganomics* and the "trickle down" theory.
For another Roddy Piper movie I highly recommend Hell Comes to Frogtown, that one is pretty fun too.
Hi Me, the mini-series " V " had the reptilian aliens that are so often spoken of. Good mini-series too.
I completely forgot that John Carpenter made this film. Now for some reason it all makes sense.
This is one of the greatest, underrated movies of all time. I never cared much for wrestling, but would watch it at my friends house, and Rowdy Roddy Piper was always my favorite. RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper.
The guy in the tux showing the other guys around is none other than drunk Fred from Back to the Future.
The original short story is called "5:00 In the Morning". The aliens are three-eyed humanoid reptilian called Fascinators.
I like how about half of the movie is really quiet and dark so you don't really see what's coming next.
Regarding the discussion topic at the end, I think _They Live_ is a perfect title. It's short, terse, not very expositive, yet it evokes an air of conspiracy, menace, as well as insisting on a fact one expects to be challenged. No matter from what angle you examine it... it's a pretty good fit.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum!" Rest in peace, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.
32:33 very loosely based on a short story called '8 o'clock in the morning' by Ray Nelson who was friends with Philip K. Dick so the theme of warped perception/reality is fitting.
CRIPPLE FIGHT. South Park so spoofed this whole scene with Timmy and Jimmy. There was an interview with John Carpenter where he explained that this movie as a lampooning of the Reagan era.
Roddy is my favorite character of course. And it should've been titled The Search For Chewing Gum. 😂
This is one of the greatest openers! "Why are you wearing my sunglasses?" hilarious.
I think that Roddys greatest (and least appreciated) input on the fight scene was his experience in how to 'sell' the fight. Hollywood could show how to take a punch, throw a punch, but not how to throw a punch while looking like you've taken a few punches before. Also, he knew that two strong, tough characters would NOT collapse like a house of cards only 30sec to a minute into a fight. He knew to pack a lunch, because this is going to take some time.
This film is so important and even more relevant now than it ever was. If I was teaching a class about how the world really works, I'd use this film to easily explain it the same way "animal farm" is used to easily explain communism.
John Carpenter is a revolutionary director!
His majesty John Carpenter
17:31 "Muscle would keep you warm though, wouldn't it? Guess you wouldn't know." - DAAAAMN!! He gonna stay real warm after that burn. LOL :D
The south park "cripple fight" was a pretty amazing homage indeed
Meg Foster "Holly" has really pretty eyes in this movie.
Absolutely the best fight sing. Roddy did this space thing. Frog comes to helltown or Hell comes to frogtown. Meg Foster's clear blue eyes! DAAAMN! There very few of those eyes out there. Gott some Roddyisms in this. Those polarized glasses are something. Names? Now you see 'em now you don't. SNL Hans and Franz title. Look at me now and see me later. And in the spirit of the red pill, "SPECS ". Yep, Roddy was Canadian. Happy holidays!
My friends grandpa was the guy that greeted them saying "hey brothers, theres something new going down." and you can make sunglasses that black out lcd screens by layering 2 polarizing filters vertically and horizontally.
Interestingly enough, this was based on a short story by Ray Nelson titled "Eight O'Clock in The Morning" later made into a story called "Nada" -- and later on, Stephen King wrote a similar story in this vein, IIRC titled "The 10 O'Clock People." 😎
I love this movie.
God knows how you'd react if you found out you were bonking a alien in disguise 🤣

This was NOT a Movie - It WAS a Documentary!
We don't need to know all the details of the alien's plans this movie is more about its effective commentary on society and control which as we've seen in recent years was spot on and very prophetic. I think Roddey Piper delivers a better and more compelling performance than many trained actors -especially today's actors. Very clever movie and one of my all time favourites. Far superior to the overblown Matrix. Nada does mean nobody and is essentially making him a modern "Man With No Name." They Live is a great title - wouldn't change it at all.

Considering he was not a trained actor, Roddy Piper was great in this. Before he died he had a podcast and he had John Carpenter on the podcast. He actually outright asked Carpenter if he ever thought that they live would somehow become a documentary.
John Carpenter also was joking on Roddy's podcast that he had very successful movies with very low budgets. He made the joke that just wants he had had the chance to have a budget to do whatever he wanted to see how good it could turn out with some actual money involved.
