Exactly! It feels absurd to keep living "normally" once you've started to understand veganism. The more I know, the more I struggle with non-vegans. It feels like we're living on two different planets EXCEPT that we aren't, and that's the whole point!
What i feel is once you stop eating meat and get used to it, you start seeing the truth for what it is. It is almost like you lift a veil that is in front of your eyes because recognizing the obvious truth makes you feel guilty. I seriously believe that anyone who stops eating animal products for a while stops lying to themselves, even if they had dropped animal products for other reasons such as health.

It is so sad to see how india is hating on vegans at the moment. I commented something informative on a question about why cow's milk is not ethical. I was harassed by 10 people within a second of commenting on it. I wish there were more people who would have an open mind and understand it rather than being offended by how they treat cows. :(

My husband and I have been vegan for 40 years (for animals and NO other reason!) I never dreamed it would grow into a movement. There is hope! And people like you are creating that hope. Bless you.
As a young vegan (19 years old),I was going to ask advice from you guys. How do you stay kind and relax when you are talking to a meat eater with ridiculous arguments? I always feel frustrated and kinda angry. Pls tell me how ,I have been vegan almost a year now but still couldn't get over this kind of stuff. It makes me upset how the other person isn't even trying to understand the facts.
Simply don't talk to anyone unless you have an established relationship. They're the most likely to be willing to explore and actually want to understand your view point.. Family not included sadly. You'll only get frustration from trying to control others. If you're asked why you're vegan then that's your best opportunity because you were invited to talk! Good luck
This is a great question! I'd strongly encourage you to watch Dr. K's video called "Psychiatrist's Guide to Conversation" It's a bit long, but that video inherently changed how I talk to people both in and out of the vegan discussion. He encourages a concept called "reflective listening" where you repeat things back to the other person, which both puts you in their shoes and gives them reassurance that they're being heard. What I see happening a lot between vegans and non vegans in conversations is you have two people that are angry at each other and are just spouting facts at each other, and once that happens, communication isn't happening anymore because nobody is listening to each other. You see it all the time in discussions about abortion, religion, climate change, etc. Steering a conversation and getting someone to listen to you (especially when they disagree!) is HARD, but it's absolutely possible.
Same way I stay calm when anyone has any kind of illogical, religious, mythological or otherwise unscientific view I disagree with. Answer their questions if they ask, try to teach the actual proven facts. Beyond that, all you can do is allow them to figure it out on their own (or not). You'll start to realize people have their own minds that you cannot always effectively communicate with, no matter what you say or prove to them. There is nothing you can do beyond informing. And because there is nothing you can do beyond that point, there is no point to getting worked up or emotional over it, don't allow it to have that kind of hold on you. Just find solace in the fact that you know the facts and aren't a slave to the ignorance that plagues many others.
I would say that just speak your truth, and don't try to argue with them per say. Sometimes when we give people the space to think about their own opinions and beliefs, without judging or condemning them, it's easier for them to change or see another point of view.
I get anxiety talking to people but everytime I watch one of your videos I am reinvigorated to continue advocating for veganism. If all the vegans convince 10 people of the problem in the next decade the world can become full vegan. Let's do it! Love you Ed.
in addition to anxiety you obviously have issues with math as well. if each of the vegans, which accounts for slightly less than 1% of the population, persuades ten people the total number would be barely 11% including the vegans themselves. only a few remain. like 89%.
We have become a Vegan family and it was the best move we made. We are doing our bit, come on people... please make that change for your children's future and so many more species that are being pushed to the brink. This is criminal!!
The more I've learned over the 5 or so years I've been vegan, the more outrageous it seems to me that videos like these aren't part of our daily conversations as human beings.
@@irishlad2505 If we all became vegan we could actually generate enough food to feed the entire world, because all the plants we feed to cattle would now go to humans. Plus all the freed up land could be repurposed into crop land, resulting in a surplus of food. There is no real reason not to be vegan.

I noticed that there are some people on here that tried to say that being a vegan is a cult but it's not. Veganism is a movement that speaks up for the animals who cannot speak up for themselves. If anything going vegan shows you have compassion empathy and humanity. For people who know what happens to these animals and don't care that says a lot about someone's character. We were given a moral compass for a reason so we know the difference between right and wrong and when something is an injustice you have to speak up about it even if it means you'll be ridiculed. For anyone to attack a vegan says that they obviously feel guilty and are taking it out on that person because they don't want to stop their addiction.

@VeganDrew don’t get all your sources material from vegan literature. I made that mistake for 3 years and it nearly cost my life. My body, and the bodies of many others literally cannot efficiently absorb plant nutrients. Some people do great with it for a long time, but many suffer through it no matter how much money we spend supplementing. At the end of the day, we can’t expect an entire world who 95% will not give up meat. This is mainly a first world idea because many of us have the privilege to afford this lifestyle. Please don’t generalize all people who eat meat. Many do it to stay healthy. I don’t agree with anything factory farmed because the torture is horrendous. And it produces unhealthy meats in the process. I do everything I can to stay away from that and get most of my animal products from local farms when finances permit. I know it’s hard to imagine that veganism isn’t the entire answer. I used to be in that boat because I chose to study all sides. Veganism, in many cases, is just as detrimental to or our earth, the animals, and her people. I didn’t want to believe it for a long time, but it took going from 160 pounds to 119 in 3 years for me to realize that I might not be doing things right. I hope it doesn’t come to that point for anyone. Blessings to you all

If it's wrong to eat a dog, it's wrong to eat a chicken 4. Eating meat increases your risk of heart disease by 50% 5. The grain used for livestock could feed the world's hunger "Reason 1 should be enough" - that was written by someone in the comment section.. Which made me sad, actually. And this is not the first time I see such a statement. I don't know why but some vegans care only about animals and not about their bodies, the environment, the forests, the Earth as a whole.. I think an issue that needs to be discussed way more is the fact that a very large number of people BELIEVE that veganism is genetically not for everyone. And this happens because of how prevalent gut issues are! Most people when they try a vegan diet will trigger their underlying gut issues that they probably didn't even notice until then, and then they will spread the misinformation that "oh, i tried going vegan, it's not for me...MY BOY IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH IT" or something like that. This needs to be addressed! Nothing will change until people understand that going vegan actually is possible for EVERYONE!
It seems they want things to keep going the way they are headed now... There should be a colossal effort to make the population of the world as plant-based as possible, yet there is not. The liders of the planet want even more death, destruction and suffering.
Fun fact for the people that love eating meat so much: you don't need to stop eating it altogether, how about you reduce it. To once a week or something. And for that once a week just spend much more on your meat, not only will it be better quality it would also improve animal conditions. And you would have a positive impact on the environment.
@@1nv15BL3 I don't see how that is connected, but I did before (it was ok, don't hate eating insects, I am pretty indifferent) and I am doing my best for the environment. Now get your what-about-ism out of here.
Using food waste and plant byproucts to create insect protein seems a lot less costly to the earth vs soy or any farming. Especially considering that this could be done in urban environments or better yet in individual's homes reducing dependency on fossile fules AND that you have to kill bugs to get plant foods anyways..
Plants need fertilizer, much larger water inputs and require airable land. Mushrooms require ultra clean substrates and have a smaller range of humidity and temperature tolerances. While bugs are easier to raise than mushrooms and plants, thats not the point it's that they use less resources to make.
@@rasputozen I don’t think he made any claims about it being “less work”. He said that it is “less costly” on the earth, in other words, “more eco-friendly”. And he does have a good point, soy farming causes a good deal of environmental destruction, which directly contributes to the death of animals, and contributes to an increase of greenhouse gases. Being vegan is not going to save the earth. Do I think that being vegan is the morally correct decision? Yes. Do I also think that producing insect protein is an even higher moral ground? Yes. But neither of these is going to “save the earth”. Individual consumer choices are not a form of activism, and are not going to be the thing that saves the earth. Asking people to, “wake up” is idealist theory, and not rooted in the material conditions of our society. It is not reality that is shaped by our minds, but our minds that are shaped by reality. Our economy lays the foundation for our consciousness, as the economy is the base that informs our super structures (religion, culture, government, etc.). As long as our economy is profit focused, and continues to promote individualism, then our earth is going to continue to die. Capitalism by its very nature leads to constant over production due to the laws of supply and demand. As long as we are over producing, meaning making more than we need, causing huge amounts of waste, then we’re fucked. We would need to dramatically revolutionize our economic system, and quickly, into a system based on people’s needs, rather than profit in order to have any hope of saving the earth.

We are doomed The change should have taken place 60 years ago. We have tripped too many feed back loops. My wife and I have been Vegan for 27 years. It is a great life style. We still encourage others to go vegan but realize the rate of growth is way too small to save Humanity and our habitat.
We are all here at the beginning of the end my friends, I have no faith in the majority of people changing their ways before its too late and life as we know is gone. I was sadden the other day to find out my friend of 6 years who was "vegan" for as long as I known her suddenly went vegetarian, she was plant based for only her health, once she decided it wasn't helping her one way or the other she was not vegan anymore. Guess she never really was vegan, cause vegan isn't a diet it a moral choice.

As for smoke and mirrors. The video is misleading on land used for human crop vs animal feed. As 2/3rds of land can't grow human Food but can grow food suitable for cows and animals of the same gut nature. Cows upcycly the nutrients we couldn't digest and make it available to us in the form of meat.

Don’t waste your time and energy with those people. You’ve already planted the seed by leading by example. I know it’s hard but try to ignore them
Simply don't talk to anyone unless you have an established relationship.
K's video called "Psychiatrist's Guide to Conversation"
It's a bit long, but that video inherently changed how I talk to people both in and out of the vegan discussion.

Its a stretch to expect people to take statistics at face value from an activist channel.
lol
Thank you for being such a great activist. Thanks to you, I've found my voice, my North Star. I know exactly what to do for the rest of my life. Try to save as much as possible the planet by raising awareness to people, Take actions.. I cannot live a life align to selfish desires and motives and hiding truths about what is going on in the world (clearly collapsing) I cannot live in denial. It wouldn't be congruent to my deepest values based on right universal principles (because I support human rights, animal rights, presevertion of Biodiversity...) How could I build a stable, happy and safe life in a world of cruauty full of non sense and that is collapsing. Currently doing my own research and figuring out how to speak loud and dedicate my life to theses matters. Probably the hardest path to take because it goes against this society based on capitalism but we actually don't have the choice to do something about it.
It feels like vegans and non-vegans live on two different planets. Except that we don't, and that's why it's so terrifying.
Carnivores do their thing for health only.

hey ya know something, The large number of animals killed to keep a vegan diet nutritious may be shocking for some. To plant crops, farmers must clear the soil. Soil tiling kills all life within its path, including all animals. Farmers spray their fields with pesticides which kill more insects. so really, if you're vegan, you're not.
you are saving the planet with your activism and you’ve inspired me to be an activist as well. my friend & i recently founded an animal liberation front here in oklahoma city and we have our first demonstration this weekend promoting veganism. it will be similar to the earthlings experience demo that you’ve done in the past. thank you for all that you do, together we can save the animals, the planet and ourselves 💪🏼💚

It really stresses me out that majority of the people on this planet are unaware of this problem or are resistant to the change. Change is inevitable, Im nervous to see what changes happen in the future, mainly because it doesn’t look to promising at the moment, it’s hard to have faith in people when people are the reason we’re in this situation to begin with. Thanks for all you do Ed, seeing ur videos give me hope, someone is taking action and making their voice heard
A few days ago I read a post that was saying:
5 reasons to go vegan
1. Animals feel fear and pain
2. Meat is worse for global warming than cars
3. If it's wrong to eat a dog, it's wrong to eat a chicken
4. Eating meat increases your risk of heart disease by 50%
5. The grain used for livestock could feed the world's hunger
"Reason 1 should be enough" - that was written by someone in the comment section.. Which made me sad, actually. And this is not the first time I see such a statement. I don't know why but some vegans care only about animals and not about their bodies, the environment, the forests, the Earth as a whole.. Of course, reason 1 is super important.. But so are the other four reasons. So.. I just wanted to say: Thank you, Ed! Thank you for speaking up for the environment and for our beautiful planet. This video was at really high level. Vegan for the animals, vegan for the environment, vegan for my body, my soul and my health. ❣️
2 billion people on this planet consume insects, how about that?
@@kohi48
Well.. I don't know what to say. Eating insects is just as cruel as eating all other animals.
Reason 6: If you go vegan. Car emissions will lower.
THIS. IS. MASTERPIECE.
lol
*Going vegan is the most simple and easy way to solve a lot of problems.* And that's how we are morally obliged to do so.
😂😂😂😂
Shared this with my omni parents! Hopefully they watch it!
this is the greatest video you've posted yet, thanks
Went vegan FTA many years ago. Finding out the environmental impact of my ethics is just amazing. This message needs to be broadcast far more than it is.
Amazing? Killing thousands of animals everyday is amazing?
ruclips.net/video/sGG-A80Tl5g/видео.html
Animals don't cause as much of an global impact as much as you think it does
Not all environmental impact being good for the earth. When you eat your avacado toast big trucks have to ship them all the way to you )unless you grow your own vegetables)most of the things you eat are shipped to you which is transmitting gasoline into the air a lot of gasoline from that long way they have to go
This needs to go viral
Yes. Thank you for this! No solution is or will be complete without veganism.
Come on algorithm, you can do it. Make it viral!
Hey Ed! Just wanted to say that your videos are definitively between if not the best videos about veganism in RUclips. You are sharp but not aggressive, rational and well informed but not devoid of feelings. Just wanted to say I appreciate your work, very professional, I would love to see you having a conversation with David Attenborough, Steven pinker or Sam Harris about veganism have you ever consider it? Regards!
Not sure if I’ve ever seen a video with 2.1k upvotes and 0 downvotes.
Great video!
When people ask me why I'm Vegan. "Because I can't find one reason not to be".
Same...except I'd add in "justifiable" between "one" and "reason" for my own lifestyle. :) I love the taste of cheese and eggs (never really cared for meat), but that's so not a justifiable reason for me to contribute to the suffering cows and chickens endure so that we can have their milk and eggs, even though there are other plant-based foods and supplements that could replace what those products nutritionally provide and cause far less direct suffering.
@@sarah-s9y8b Fair enough.
After 15 years as Vegan the smell of cheese and eggs or bacon is enough to make me want to vomit ,although do remember how good it tasted when I ate those products Amazing how the taste buds change.
Also when I see these products I see the pain and torture and destruction to our home.
Once the connection is made there's no going back.
I'll add justifiable to my sentence!😉
i cant find a reason that would make me vegan, its just not for me
lol

Well, you see, the thing is that It's not about you, it's much bigger than that!
I'm Vegan not just for me,but for the entire Earth and all the speices on it.
Whether you like it or not, we are all apart of the natural world and are all connected to it.
We need nature to exist on this planet.
So saying Veganism is not for me is missing the point.
Veganism is related to us all!
It's about doing the best you can and understanding where you are , how you exist ,what's is necessary for you to exist and making the connection to the Earth, the air you breathe, the food you eat ,the water you drink etc...
It all comes from her and without it we will cease to exist as a species. It's not the time for inward selfish living.
It's time to start trying to help her out a bit. She's suffering right now and we need her more that she need us.She has given us a lot and all that we need to live on this beautiful planet.
Living a vegan lifestyle will help and do just that.
Be part of the solution and not the problem.
Really good summary and explanation on how cosumption of animal products is killing our planet and us.
hope this video gets heaps of views. we can't wait another decade.exactly.
Veganism is the natural consequence of knowing these facts. :)
This video should have Millions of views...
This was good. Hits home when you pointed out how much more land is needed in the future to sustain a carnivorous world ... its impossible.
Title could be more like: "Why animal agriculture is so bad?"
(to not mention veganism yet, and present the theme to a wider audience)
I have to agree optics wise, people are trained not to listen as soon as they hear the word vegan. Might be better to use a different phrase to garner people's interest
He's throwing shade at What I've Learned by parodying the title of his video where he made false claims about animal agriculture not being that bad lol
I agree, many people will probably not click when they see the word vegan. It should be used only after the viewer is starting to get the idea.
respectfully disagree. isn't caving to those kinds of people how we got to this point in the first place?
@@baggaz167 Yeah, yeah. I got it that way too. Still agree with Sanelma and SuperQGS comments.
Greetings
Keep up the good work Earthling Ed 🌿 🌍
People who are against this video only make personal insults and nothing else.
Can someone send this viedo to every government in the world ?? Time to put the ball back in thier court! They are now 100% responsible
It seems they want things to keep going the way they are headed now... There should be a colossal effort to make the population of the world as plant-based as possible, yet there is not. The liders of the planet want even more death, destruction and suffering.
Relax, the human species will annihilate itself in a few thousand years, no need to ruin other people's lives.
Fun fact for the people that love eating meat so much: you don't need to stop eating it altogether, how about you reduce it. To once a week or something. And for that once a week just spend much more on your meat, not only will it be better quality it would also improve animal conditions. And you would have a positive impact on the environment.
How about YOU start eating insects and do something for the envirement?
@@1nv15BL3 I don't see how that is connected, but I did before (it was ok, don't hate eating insects, I am pretty indifferent) and I am doing my best for the environment.
Now get your what-about-ism out of here.
@@trithos7308 the best for the environment would be eating insects (even though you already are)
Using food waste and plant byproucts to create insect protein seems a lot less costly to the earth vs soy or any farming. Especially considering that this could be done in urban environments or better yet in individual's homes reducing dependency on fossile fules AND that you have to kill bugs to get plant foods anyways..
Why do you think growing insects is any less work than farming plants and mushrooms?
Plants need fertilizer, much larger water inputs and require airable land.
Mushrooms require ultra clean substrates and have a smaller range of humidity and temperature tolerances.
While bugs are easier to raise than mushrooms and plants, thats not the point it's that they use less resources to make.
Hell yeah I think you're on to something
I just randomly stumbled on this comment and I have to say, this guy makes some good points even if he spells weirdly
Great video! Sharing it Friday, June 4th on my website. Hoping it opens peoples eyes to the truth!
10:07 thanks for showing the study! I’ve heard you talk about it several times, but could never find it myself, when wanting to link it in a comment response to other people who claim a vegan diet isn’t that much better for the environment. Now I finally can.
Thanks for this Ed. This has shifted something in me, this has made me so upset and angry. I'm already vegan and speak out for the animals, but now I'm going to be even louder, advocating for all species, the starving people all over the world, our planet, our rainforests, our childrens future...
We need to WAKE UP PEOPLE! We dont have time, share this video, speak up, be the change you want to see in this world!
If Humanity behaved from science and intelligence we could solve these issues.
Unfortunately Humanity lives by politics, self interest and subjective nonsense. We are doomed
The change should have taken place 60 years ago. We have tripped too many feed back loops. My wife and I have been Vegan for 27 years. It is a great life style. We still encourage others to go vegan but realize the rate of growth is way too small to save Humanity and our habitat.
Always coming through with the facts and truth🙌
We are all here at the beginning of the end my friends, I have no faith in the majority of people changing their ways before its too late and life as we know is gone. I was sadden the other day to find out my friend of 6 years who was "vegan" for as long as I known her suddenly went vegetarian, she was plant based for only her health, once she decided it wasn't helping her one way or the other she was not vegan anymore. Guess she never really was vegan, cause vegan isn't a diet it a moral choice.
This is a key example of why I'm not vegan
Have you thought of showing her some of those videos from Ed? Being still vegetarian, she might be open to hearing about it
@@yeet6363 how so, I'm confused?
@@ZachAgape is veganism a diet or religion?
@@hudsongradyy Neither, it's a philosophy or ethical stance according to which we do not exclude sentient beings based on species and we try to avoid harming any sentient being as much as possible.
Most plants grown for human consumption in the UK are not perennial so need planting each year. Grass does not need to be planted, every year, but this is not included in vegan stats as it is inconvenient. Facts matter
