Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make a Plum Coffee Cake.
Fresh Plums look so pretty sitting on top of a cake. You may think that plums, when cut in half, would dry out during baking but the opposite is true. A little sugar sprinkled on the top of the plums, along with the heat from the oven, causes the plums to soften and their juices to be released. So by the end of the baking time they have become wonderfully soft and almost jam-like with nicely caramelized edges. And the cake. Well, this cake is deliciously flavorful, and no electric mixer is needed to make the batter.

I love how you explain everything and don't expect the viewer to know everything in advance. Thank you :*
I love how you got more casual with time. Years ago when I first saw your brownie recipe I remember thinking you were pretty stiff and sorta almost afraid of the camera but you have gotten so comfortable with the presentation. It makes for a very pleasant experience.
Agreed.
She was just starting out back then. I’m sure she watched herself. She became her natural self quite quickly. I’m sure it wasn’t easy.
Made it using lemon flavoured yogurt, worked a treat! Everyone loved it. Thank you Stephanie for sharing another of your great recipes!
I had a bunch of plums that needed to be used so decided to give this a try. Thanks for the recipe, it’s yummy! I only had a larger springform pan (9” or 10”?) so increased the recipe by half and it worked out well! Took the full 55 minutes to bake. Made it this evening and snuck a warm piece... can’t wait to have it tomorrow morning with my coffee! Wish I could share the photos I took of it!
55 minute in what Temperature?
I made this yesterday and it was delicious! I added a little streusel to the top. Very, very good. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
Looks excellent Stephanie!!!!!! I love plum cake. Going to make this today!!! Thanks so much!!
My husband made this cake, turned out perfectly just instead of 200 gr sugar he added 75 gr and brown. You are the first that your recipes don’t go wrong.
This is a plum yogurt cake,I’m seriously loving these yogurt cake recipes it’s so easy yet rich and delicious

What a great recipe! I just picked plums off the tree and this will work perfectly. Even have the Greek yogurt so am excited to give it a try. Thanks Stephanie!
I backed it with 50% the amount of sugar and a zest of a lemon,,, deliciuso!! With vanilla ice cream even a grand dessert,, fluffy moist and looks great... Thank you very much
I thought im the only one reducing the amount of sugar to like half from the original recipe... and still it turned out deliciouso ☺😊
i tried the recipe with your tweek so i added lemon zest and cut down on the sugar but the cake turned sour and tart , so I won't recommend your twist. I would try it next time using the original recipe
Thank you for this video! My favorite cake to eat and to make. I’ve made it probably ten times now just since March. I’ve made it with out eggs and instead used “flax seed egg”. Turned out very good also. I also didn’t have almond flour a few times and it tasted great without it too. I’d love to see more simple cake recipe videos thanks!
I really like Stephanie! I’m going to try this recipe!
It looks so delicious! Thank you.
Beautiful presentation!
What a beautiful cake.
What a a beautiful cake that looks wonderful.
Watching this it was like watching a best wise friend baking for me and teaching me at the same time, knowing that i have no idea how to use the kitchen 😄 Also i love your voice ! Thank you sooooo much !!! I am going to try this right now ! I have some plums from my mom's plum tree and i had no ideea how to use it. In Europe we have different plums but i am sure it will be perfect ! Thank you again !!!
I made this today and it’s wonderful , the cake is so soft and delicious and my plums were not so sweet and with the cake it was great , need some whip cream to go with this , thank you Stephanie for sharing , I’m so glad I subscribe to your channel 😊
Looks delicious! You're my only go to for baking recipes. Never made one I didn't like :-).
I didn't have some things for this recipe, but I subbed the yogurt for sour cream and heavy cream mixed with a little black walnut extract! It was sooo good! One of the best cakes I've made in a long time thank you so much for the inspiration!
This is a great recipe, thank you
Delicious, I have done it already twice. Very easy and quick.
We have tried in today with my daughter- it has turned out AMAZING💕💕 Thank you ! 😊
Wow looks delicious!
Thank You , you make this so easy !
Superb! I have just made this & it worked SO well. Seeing it all step by step did make it really easy. I had a jar of Mirabelles that needed using & this was the perfect way to do so - I also had to use sucralose in the batter & that worked, too. I did sprinkle a little demarara over the top, which gave the whole thing a lovely crunchy finish.
Gosh lovely! All your videos are amazing, I particularly enjoy how you make it all so simple with your explanations.
This is the first time I made this recipe - it's in the oven now, as I type this... kids called for the peach version so that's what I made. As it happens, I had some peach yogurt too. Honestly, I can hardly wait for the next 30 minutes... yum!!
Tried this recipe as my baby girl turned 8 months old today. It tasted marvellous and my husband loved it more. I have tried your chocolate banana cake and simple chocolate cake recipe too and they tasted really good too! Thanks so much for sharing! Love and hugs 😍

Good cake combination!
No nonsense,clear and concise,thank you.
Looks yummy. Will be giving this one a try. Greetings from South Africa.
I actually baked this today. Yummy. I left out the almonds for my neighbours grandchildren who are "nut" allergic.
It is tasty and not too sugary. Thanks for posting!
Maryrita Tilley thank you for your comment I wanted to know if I could skip that part due to allergies.
I love that cake with nectarines or apricots! But with a twist! A splash of rhum in the batter and no plain brown sugar on top but like 10min before the end of baking I pour on it a mixture of melted butter and sugar! Caramel haven! One of the only cake I know where you can complain there is not enough crust ;)

great job hello from Germany
Thanks for this great cake looks so fancy . I made a mistake I bake the cake at 350 degrees took longer but still was delicious. Next time I would bake it at proper temperature
This is one of the best cakes I have made
I’ll try first plums, then i will try other fruites. Thank you so much
Hi, well like you said, that cake doesn't seem to be hard to make. I will porbably make it but replace the sugar for Splenda because my husband's diabetic and he love plums, so yes its a great recipes. Thanks for sharing ! ♥
it's so delicious , today it's my second time to make it ..
Funny thing is that I do this kind of cake for very long time, I am in Croatia. It does not have to be plums, it is very good with other fruits as well like peaches, cherries and all kind of berries. But I like fruits to stay in sugar and spices (cinnamon, vanilla, rum) for the time I make butter. Soooo delicious and so easy!
Trying this recipe today :)
very very good👍👍👍
hi i love all your recipes and how you explain every detail.
Can you make a video explaining how to make a spinach pie please. 😊😊

I have to save this !
Thank you

Stephanie Greetings! 🙋
Thank you so much for this recipe. Only realised that the tutorial was done 7 years ago. Any how I have baked 5 using our blood plums of our trees. 3 are in the freezer for future eating. Yum.

Sthephanie! I've watched the recipe 3 times or so and I love it, I will definitely bake this soon, maybe over the weekend. I love it, love it. thank you so much!! .. could I also use peaches instead, just to vary the recipe? though I will make the plum one for sure!!!
+TheRenutzu thanks so much! I will definitely try them too.
This looks really delicious. I’m definitely gonna make this tomorrow , but just curious why do you call it a coffee crumb cake? Unless I miss some part of the recipe but I didn’t see where you add any coffe
Hey ,do you have any recipe for pizza dough .Thanks for the great work .
Less than a minute in and I knew you were Canadian!
It will be prettier if at least half the plums are skin side up. Line the bottom of the pan with the fruit, and just use a glass baking dish, for an upside down cake variation. A sprinkle of powdered sugar on top, and a drizzle of plum syrup is great. That can be made easily during baking. I always add some warming spices like nutmeg and ground ginger, and vanilla to any fruit cake. Cut bits of butter on top before baking for unreal numminess, if you have extra butter. You can sprinkle Nutmeg or cinnamon lightly over the top also. Aromas are great. I don't bother with springform pans, tho i like the presentation yours allows. AuntieBellum.
i love your recipes Stephanie, don't you have a book?
Thank you for asking but I don't have a cookbook.
جدا لذيذ
Hi, if i need to half the quantity, what all things should be kept in mind? Like temperature, baking time, pan size etc? Would love to receive your inputs.
Can you put the plums on the bottom before putting the batter?
Thanks again I always pay attention to the technical demonstration You provided Dear CHEF.👍 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❕
thanks for another delicious looking recipe Joy. After specialising in french and italian patisserie I have finally started my own channel :) Croissants, eclairs, chocolates, marshmallows etc the simple way. Metric measurements too. if anybody fancies coming over to see you shall be welcomed with open arms :)

Tri's Patisserie
if I decided to use oil instead butter for a regular cake. how many cups do I have to used? thanks
Because this is a pitted fruit you could add a half or quarter teaspoon of fresh grated nutmeg.
Stephanie can i replace plums with green apples? I'll await your response.
Oh wow that looks delicious. I love how you give metric measurements as well as the imperial. Saves me having to convert the measurements. I am an Australian and love to find things that are different to the things we have here. You are Canadian right ? Something about your accent, I recognise. I
have a cousin that married a Canadian fellow. They live in Ottawa,he's very quiet fellow but we all love to hear him speaking. Any way thanks for sharing your recipes.
Yes I'm originally from Canada but now live in the southern US.
I miss my grandma . Thanks a lot
which other fruit can be used for same recipe ?
What temperature was it?
Can I substitute anything for the (full fat) yogurt? I am extremely lactose intolerant. I sometimes use coconut milk yogurt but I don't know if that has enough fats?
how to make Apple cake?tanks love your baking
She already has a video recipe for that...
It looks like instead of plum you could also use peaches or nectarines. What do you think?
Yes, that would be a good idea.
I tried it today and loved it. Used about 80 ml of oil ...rest everything was the same.
Plum cake essences
Can we add plum essence instead of venella and bake in microwave
You could add some plum essence. I've never baked using a microwave so I don't know how it would work.
