My B210 Wagon is sitting in my home garage. Hopefully I make enough money some day soon to revive it. Thank you Larry, this feature has been super inspirational to me and I can't wait to wake my Datto!
This man is a legend! Probably some of my favorite builds you've showcased and that's saying something. Thanks Larry for showcasing this mans hard work and inginuity!
had a '71 510, '71 521 (Pick Up). The 510 ended up with a junkyard L20 and dual Webbers. The 521 ended up with stock L16, the 2 barrel progressive carb, junkyard Dana 30, and 2 x 50 Cal ammo cans of spare front suspension parts. Wanted to run Baja with it, but never got the chance.
There has never been a time in the states when you couln't give away a 510 to someone. 510's have always had a cult following here in the states. They were always loved. They were just much cheaper in the 70's/80's. Now a rusted shell will run you 3 to 5k lol!
You can't even find a Datsun 510 in the state unless it's a Hot Wheels, this could only be cooler if it were a Bluebird wagon, it's pretty freaking cool.
Hello there I have a few questions regarding your 510? First off your build is amazing! Secondly I have a fully built sr20det with a ported and polished head with a 3 angle valve job running a full race t25 manifold with a borgwarner efr 6258 turbo with a turbosmart dual port ewg on e85. I also have a turbo speed sensor with the full race gauge. My turbo rpm speed is at 164-165K and the max I can spin my turbo is 169K. I heard that manufacturers give a 10% extra room to spin the turbo even more than the advertised max turbo speed? I gave myself some room just in case I have a 1-2psi boost leak and my Haltech elite 2500 ecu will need to see 20psi. Currently I’m boosting 18psi with my Hp graph climbing at redline and my turbo spools at 3.2K rpm and at 4K rpm it’s at full boost with the help of the sx-e compressor housing which has a 3.5” inlet vs the stock housing 2.5” inlet which is suppose to help my turbo spool earlier and gain a few more hp. My 510 makes 420whp and 330tq at 18psi on e85. My turbo has almost no lag and there is no need for rolling anti lag or anti lag at all. I either press the gas or drop a gear and disappear. My 1st question is the full race manifold you have a T25? I’m wondering bc you have the 7670 which I think is the smallest size out of the b2 frame turbos? Which I was worried about clearance issues since there isn’t alot of room and my turbo smart ewg is literally touching my valve cover and the only way I can take it off is if I remove my valve cover first. But I’m wondering if I run a tad bigger turbo the ewg would move foward a tad and not touch my valve cover? Do you have any clearance issues with your turbo set up? How much psi are you running and hp and tq? My only future mod is to get the 6758 supercore since my turbine side stays the same and only the compressor wheel is bigger by 5mm. Do you think by just swapping the 6758 compressor wheel and the matching compressor housing will it work with my 6258? The turbine housing and wheel is the same and only the compressor wheel is bigger by 5mm as stated? In theory I believe if the wheel and compressor hosing is changed it should all fit and work? Have you had any experience or know if it will work? It would save me over $1,200-$1,300 if I don’t have to buy the supercore. Secondly I believe I saw one of your videos and it looks like you got a manual rack and pinion? One thing I don’t like about my 510 is the steering and suspension. I got rid of every rubber bushing and I am running brim joints or solid metal bushings. And I also got the support brackets for the steering gear box and idler arm, steering gear box bracket, a new idler arm with derlin bushings. I have T3 gtx2 front Lca and tension rods with their 5/8” beefier outer tie rods with t3 evolved steering knuckles and t3 evolved rca which has 3 mods normal, negative camber, Ackerman. Originally it was on negative camber mode but I put it back to normal before getting an alignment which helped with my steering. Before my alignment my car on the freeway wanted to go into every groove in the road and was scary to drive over 65mph. Now it’s a lot safer and I can drive up to 80mph but still sometimes my car will want to go in the grooves in the road but it’s 90% better. So my future mods is getting a manual rack and pinion bc I hate the steering gear box. I know some people used a 240z-280z cross member bc it bolts on and use half the tension rod and get a adjustable nut and use the inner tie rod half as the tension rod. The tension rod doesn’t need a bracket bc they reuse the one on the cross member. And they keep the rack in front of the wheel and the tension rod goes behind the wheel. The only bracket they need to make is where the end of the tension rod goes. I know Jb coach well used to make a kit and datsport makes a kit, and I believe tsr is making a kit soon as well as a drive by wire kit. I also believe datsport is making a drive by wire kit as well. Which rack and pinion set up are you running or did you make a custom one? If so would you be willing to make me one or sell me one? It’s literally the only thing that making me not love my 510. Well I love it 90% now but the extra 10% of making me feel safer at higher speeds would make me love it 100%. What sequential trans are you using and how much did it cost $8-10K? That was one of my last mods I wanted for my car. Do you only use your clutch in 1st gear only? Then you use your shifter? My second option was to run a cd009 trans and I was wondering if you know any 510 with a sr20 using a cd009 trans? And how much do you have to cut or make room to make that wide trans fit in the tunnel? your build is amazing! One of the dopest 4door 510 builds I’ve seen this thing is a track monster!
Actually, the 510 in the US never hit the "Can't give them away" category. Every since they were discontinued in 1973, people mourned the loss of the rear independent suspension, "Poor Man's BMW". Several years later, the 510 badge was put on the replacement for the 710, in the US, but it was a 510 in name only, which was conventional suspension, lame. & actually hard to give away, even when new.
@@datsungarageaustralia sorry, didn't mean to come off like the usual internet asshole comments. Just a legit observation from a driving instructor. The car looks like it has plenty of front end grip on turn in, so a little more patience at corner entry will pay off huge in your mid corner momentum and exit speed 👍
Factory Diff upgrade for a 1600 Wagon to be Nissan based would be the rear axle out of a Datson 620 Ute these ran a H190 Centre and 30 spline axles of good spec 6 bolt on a larger pcd so the ends of the axle can be turned down to a standard Datsun 4 stud 114mm diameter pcd with no welding etc required just drilled correctly by a machine shop so they are in the correct place to oate with no runout. Because their are no mods other than turning down the larger flange Axle Flange diameter and drill new stud holes then it presents no engineering issues axle length is short enough as is to fit under a 120Y let alone a 1600 Wagon, Then there is the best point these run Tapered wheel bearings that are adjustable and that means no endfloat so perfect for a rear disk conversion. If a wider track is required just use a 720 Ute diff assembly same thing just wider and you can get truetrac lockers, LSD's and maybe even a Torson cente for the Diff. Think about this 30 spline axles that size wise fit between GTHO Phase 3 where the Manuals were 28 spline and the Auto's were 31 Spline and so more than tough enough and a H90 is 10mm up size wise on an R180 so a good enough centre to handle most streetable power conversions. I have even put one of these under an Escort with a Cosworth Sierra engine and it was more than strong enough for that application.
I have a 510 and these cars are a dream. Little go carts on the road!
Was great to meet you Larry. Thanks for the chat.
They were loved as new cars. I know I bought one back in 1970. A demo 1969 model, A $1900. A brilliant car all round. I loved my mighty Datto
There is just something special about Datsuns! Whether it be a track or street car. Nostalgia with a flare.
Hey Matt Moore if you see this hello from your old friend 🙏
Thanks for this one Larry. My brother was a huge 510 fan before he passed, this was cool to watch with my morning coffee. Good vibes.
I grew up with our family owning Datsuns from 72
till 86 .510 s 610s
pick ups 240sx.
Learned to drive stick in a pick up .
Loved Datsun/ Nissan.
Still one of the all time coolest cars made. The 510 is legendary in the Japanese car lineup. ❤
Datsun hit the style sweet spot in the 70s the 510 is one of my favorites and the 620 is definitely my favorite truck.
Being that I would like to build a 510 on day, I can say that this 510 is what I have envisioned for a long time!!!! GOD WHAT A CAR!!!

Is your B210 stock and you want to bring it back to stock as a driver?
man, I wish I didn't sleep on the bee B210 !

My dad owned one. It was a great little car, 40-45mpg@@morphiasas
i daily a 71 510 wagon and gotta say, just the best damn car ever made.

Thank you!
His wagon is wicked, very humble dude...😎
Thank you!
Larry coming with the heat today!! Hell yeah.. true man of the people!
This is awesome! My first car was a bright orange 2 door 510, set up with autocross suspension.
The 240z and Dastun 510's are so underrated imo they are perfect platforms for many types of Racing 💯

Dude this is my exact dream car. I want a 510 (wagon) with sr20 swap making like 350hp, But I would want it to be a street car. 🔥🤘
He'll Yeah Nissan !!!😊 Love It
Looks amazing
GLORIOUS SOUNDSSSSS 🙂

Why are you turning in a mile early for every corner?? Missed half the apexes of that opening lap.....
Sorry, I’ll try to be better next time…..

as if the trans wasn't enough....air jacks
