hey ben, you make extremely valuable and entertaining videos! i hope you realize a great number of people only got interested in chess because of you. you're my favourite grandmaster i watch! (that also makes you my least favourite) keep up the good work!
I liked this video a lot. To be honest I've been playing chess very poorly and just for fun against my dad and brother because I always thought i would be too weak to play online and got frustrated quickly against the computer as a kid, but recently i rediscovered my love for this beatiful game and wanted to learn and see more about it. So I started to watch chess youtube videos not only in the hope of improving my game at least a little but also because it is super impressive to see you playing and knowing all this stuff. Thanks for uploading these videos, i am really enjoying them especially your humor. cheers from germany!
3 minutes is definitely better for a youtube show, you speak a lot and that's *awesome* because we get to see how a pro player thinks which is cool, plus your humor is top notch, so well done! Keep it up!
40 years ago when Ben and I were both members of the East Detroit Chess Club, one of my favourite things to watch was Ben playing blindfold speed. He gave the player who could see the board 5 minutes, he took one minute for himself. He called out his move and an assistant moved the pieces and hit his clock. He would sit and crack jokes while playing, and more often than not he would win on time or mate outright. The cliche` can be overused at times, but when we were watching Ben or playing against him, we knew " we were in the presence of greatness. " I have already tried to contact the St. Louis Chess Club, and I'm waiting to hear back.
Loving these lichess videos! I did like 3 minute more than 1 minute, but both are cool. Also, I should probably add that I enjoy your "normal" videos too. Variety is nice.
The question mark means your rating is provisional, I think. Rating changes are bigger with a provisional rating, so you get up to the correct rating quickly.
Doesn't that also impact the difference between the points you gain and the points your opponent loses? If your rating is provisional and too high, for example, that indicates that by jumping into the pool and taking all of your corrective rating points from other players until you find your true rating, you would cause ratings deflation - I think? So by adjusting to make your games in particular less zero-sum, so that every game you win adds to the overall rating pool, that should help offset deflation. I'm kind of interested in the details of rating systems, but I'm totally talking out of my behind.
from 22:32 i was like WTF , its like you entered beast mode,i blunder so much when im seeing my clock only 20 sec then panic takes over and while i try to move my pieces by predicting i end up giving away my piece just like the opponent did with his rook

Obviously
it's based on your rating deviation, if you keep jumping rating you retain the ? just to state that your rating hasn't hit steady-state yet.
