In this video, I join the Blitz Chess Shield Arena on lichess.org and play a bunch of aggressive openings, traps, and gambits with the intention of winning quickly! This was streamed on November 7th 2018, just a few days before I flew to London to report at the World Championship match between Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana.

The smirk he had is hilarious after that move

White: "Hah, I got an IM to lose time!"
Reality: Heh, there's a squirrel on the roof.
Savage 😂😂😂😂🤣
Brilliant!
Fuckk!!
Hehe, squirrel go zoom!
I don't understand 😭 Could someone break kayfabe abd explain
28:00 That's the "I'm not wasting 10 minutes of tournament time on a player 600+ rating points above me" gambit
The Bongcloud Gambit
The King Sacrifice
the king gambit, not to be confused with the king's gambit
Isnt resign even faster? :D
I think he is just tilted so he is just trying to ruin his opponent's experience.
I love how Eric was slightly offended haha
11:54 "This time I'll be more solid than usual... oh there's a squirrel on the roof"
Lol 😂
26:49
Eric: "what... what... what... He wants to play bongcloud? What is this? How do I punish him.... I want to punish him to the maximum..."
Hikaru: *nervous sweating*
"He's beserking, I'll berserk back"
A berserkle jerk, if you will.
911, hello? Yes, this post right here.
Funny and disgusting at the same time.
Yes officer, this one right here. He’s acting in a belligerent and most unseemly manner. I fear he may be a *s e x u a l d e v i a n t* of some kind.
What does it do other than half the time for yourself?
@@AnimeCritical I think that a victory will then win you an additional point in the arena. I could be wrong.
Imagine thinking an IM would fall for Scholar’s Mate
@Luqs Tech oh wow 😭😂
Guess bongcloud isn't that idiot anymore, its 3000+ master play
Lol, even a 1000 rated player fell for it, specially if it's bullet
A cup of coffee and either agadmator video or erics stream is all i need to relax at the end of the day.
Throw in a John Bartholomew in there too and you've got it made.
You sir, know what your talking about 😉
Agreed!!
i do this every morn
A cup of coffee and a good battle on lichess is all I need to relax at the end of the day. I love watching chess vids but prefer getting into battle myself and crushing opponents
Opponent: *tries hard to win*
Eric: "Heh, there's a squirrel on the roof."
😂
this man does triple forks without thinking and I run out of time while trying to protect my last pawn
Your commentary makes this worth watching. I love how you talk about possibilities and mistakes with certain positions. Well done, good sir, well done indeed.
This is the first time I've been to this channel, and I have to say you really are an impressive chess player. I really don't watch people play chess unless they're super famous, but this was nice to watch. Very educational as well. Looking forward to new videos!

thanks
That was very cash money of you
That guy gives confidence now I can challenge grandmasters...
its amazing how simple you make chess look!

It is simple all you have to do is *memorise all 690000000000 openings and practice a couple billion games* and then you'll be good!

I would love to see a Two-Knight’s Attack guide! Your analyses are always excellent, and I’ve recently been unsure what to play against e6
I agree, the French opening is something I struggle with White and I would like to have more options against it!
I agree
Me too

Watching from Sudan. You play chess so smoothly I've seen violin players more stressed.
Eric plays more smoothly than a nice, easy dump after a delicious laxative.

Wow man, I stumbled across your channel recently and it's pure gold. Love from Nigeria
5:30 "This feels like Christmas". You are the Grinch, Eric, taking so many pieces!! lol
Watching from Nigeria, hi Mr. Rosen. I like your analysis, very educative.
This was a very nice video to watch. Found myself laughing at how casual you were with everything yet still winning! And very cool to see you destroy some openings I (and many others) struggle with. Thanks for the casual, informative video!
Opponent: Eric Rosen is thinking I must’ve done a good move
Eric: Huh there’s a squirrel on my roof
wow, I really enjoyed watching your video. It's so pleasent how calm you talk and how you explain your moves. Very nice. Greets
“2 days till Carlson caruana” said at the very moment you play the same opening they played in their first two matches
BuildWithWill Yo I couldn’t believe it-what are the odds?!
buuttt... kinda just shows how precut high-level chess is. and at the time of writing this: SIX DRAWS for Carlsen v Caruana. quite the drudge. we gotta add a spark of chance to the calculations on the 64 squares.
Draws, but still some crazy games, man, they make drawn games fun
frooshante chess is about intelligence there should be no chance
@@kevinjohnson6549 Not completely true. It's also about chess knowledge and repetition. I might be more intelligent than my opponent but if I never played chess before and just know how every piece is allowed to move, while my opponent plays chess since the age of 7 and is studying the game intensively, than my chances of winning are slim to none.
Ultimate respect to you man... I had only seen your wonderful lecture ... and now this...Beautiful.
i havent played chess in years and loved it as kid...been hooked on these videos...great job eric first time i seen your channel and was pleasant to watch
Watching from South East Asia :) Btw , Rosen Thank you for teaching me from your nc3 vs sicillian . I learned so much from it . Hope lot lessons again come from you!
This is my first time watching this kind of video, but it's my favourite chess video to date.
I like the way you present it.
Man you are so calm and funny while playing, and your traps are really fun to watch. I enjoyed it a lot.
Eric always a pleasure to watch you in action. Good luck in your travels.
I just started watching chess videos on youtube...didn't realize how friggin bad I was until now lol. Awesome video man!

I enjoy your games and even more the way you commenting and analysing moves, u bring back chess in my life , ty :)
Nice video, your thought process is clear, and you make it transparent and accessible to a range of skill levels in real time. It's a more authentic way to teach than post game reviews, and in that way more engaging.
I am very lucky because I have found your channel. You are very good teacher.
I learn so much from this compared to anything else, thank you
I like this kind of content a lot. Just gameplays with live analysis and explaination. Well done, keep it up.
Squirrel.....SQUIRREL!!!
pppppppppppppppppprrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I knew this would be here.
Just discover your channel and the second game played really show how knowing the game change everything, my elo is poor, I'm a beginner yet when I'm confronting 800 with my already poor 1100 I can feel that as well. It's like "obvious attacks everywhere" and it humbles me a lot as I know that for some dudes, with a way better level, I was that guy when we were playing.
Anyway, great channel ! You got a new subscriber.
IM Rosen: "always play f6" -- Mr. Finegold cries in agony.
That's why he is an IM and Ben is GM. Just kidding.
He fell out of his chair
I love the way you play. Seems so easy when i see u playing streaming. You the man.
oh man, you are super chill this video was like a therapy for me.
Never play f6 RAWRRR, now Ben is furious
but final move was knife f five... Finegold probably is somewhat satisfied

You’re always playing so happily. You foresee all attacks and defences on both sides. Your analysis is impeccable.
Meanwhile, I can’t even find knight C6 on the board in under 5 seconds..
I may not have subbed for over a year but i've been watching videos of you for 3 years
Chess and squirrel watching... I love the commentary, Eric!
12:05 Gonna attempt to be aggressive, oh there's a squirrel on the roof. Let's literally stare at it while berserking in arena. hehehe

31:04 Qh5? That isn’t even legal after Bd6
Exactly what I saw
Yeah I don’t get it either
Eric, you are one of the best things that ever happened to chess.
Damn, instant like after seeing your first game.. pretty calm, bold and confident.. something not all chess players are very good at
I always have to fire up a game within ten seconds of listening to you and usually I end up winning. I rarely otherwise win. I carry your heart in my heart, Eric Rosen
str8 surgical. bueatiful stuff man, thx
Playing a very intense chess game
Eric: "is that a squirrel on the road?"
One of Rosen's most iconic videos
Watching you is a mix of unbelievable frustration and amazement.
Frustrating because in my head I think…ok I’ll remember that trap, and then not only do I not, but I end up losing…badly when I try to replicate these traps.
1:27 got me dead with the heavy bass 🤣
1M views. Congratulations!!

"It's nice to be white"

Ah. Trigger warning
2020 intensifies
Based Eric
I found a different solution to the 7 move puzzle: 1.f4 2. g4 3. f5 4. f6 5. fxe7 6. exf8(N) 7. Nxd7 Qh4#
edit: and so did everyone else. I think when you say quick mate, people think scholar's mate rather than mate with pawn via discovery, even if the latter is way cooler
Ha! Very cool, very creative. 6 move though, no need to make the seventh move really. I have found a different 6 move pattern so there is at least three total! :P
The utter confidence of berserking in a tournament and immediately being distracted by a squirrel is mind blowing
I've increase my rating on lichess by viewing your tricky traps sir... thank you so much.. your videos are informative and i've learn a lot on yours videos..
Apparently squirrels can fall from any height and survive because they can control where they land and they weigh so little their terminal velocity is low enough to negate
Somebody watches Mark Rober

I don’t even like chess but for some reason I found this video very interesting
Luv from Egypt, learning alot from u keep it up
I like your play ,good stuff .it's helpful. Thanks
For the puzzle, isn't 6 moves enough for white?
f3, g4, b3, Ba3, Bxe7, Ba3
Qh4#
I came up with the six moves of g4, f4, f5, f6, fxe, fxB=N (or B). Then ...Qh4 is mate
36:24 "rely on instincts" doesn't Bc7 win an exchange at the least?
Or am I missing a move
He would just take the pawn on b2, and if you capture on e5, he would eat on c2, checking, and after you move you king he would take your bishop on e5, or if you ate with knight, he would skip this last move and just take knight on c3. So black would be 2 pawns up. Im just 1600, so I dont know if there might be a way to play better in that position
Watching from Malaysia. Happy to learn from your video
great channel. I can actually keep up most of the time :)
20:33 you can just take b5 knight, if he takes bishop c3 N is also hanging
He would take the knight with his other knight and white would gain a tempo since black has to retreat his bishop
@@saturn_Il yeah but black is up a knight, losing 1 tempo is worth a knight
@@daviddieteman1222 no its a trade, black also has a hanging bishop
@@saturn_Il yeah it would go axb5 Nxb5 then black can move the bishop and is up a knight
No one:
Eric: *Wow, look at this pawn*
Hi i LOVE your content keep up the good work!!
I just noticed Levy had subbed during this video. Guess he's been one of your longest fans.
@46:30 should have played Qxf7 forking both rooks and protecting knight. Pretty sure it was mate in 2.
Yes, i see it and screaming to the phone but he is distracted
Eric's awesome.
Very entertaining. Haven't seen that Scandinavian trap before. And it beat Bartholomew no less. Looking forward to more of your blitz encounters. BTW, you still win the queen on Kf6 - 9. Bb2+ e5 10. Bxe5+ when either Ke6 or Ke7 result in mate or loss of the black queen after Nc7.
Absolutely love your style of gameplay sir!... Subject bows...
