    just started bolt action 2 months ago and o my golly why did i not discover this game 6 years ago. like the mechanic that the dice is not always the game equalizer , tactics is the thing.

      Welcome to Bolt Action! I think for me the dice mechanic is one that I think is excellent, it really gives you that random and unprepared aspect of gaming that makes it unpredictable. Seeing your plans fall apart because you can't get your units to move really does add to the game 😃

    thanks again, for a very clear informative video! We've never played with tanks (yet), but will soon, and this has cleared up a few points i'd glazed over reading in the manual. Thanks.

      Cheers buddy, much appreciated! I thought focusing on just transports and how tanks work would be a bit simpler than trying to cover about 9-10 different aspects of the rules for vehicles. Glad you found it helpful 😊

      Hey John, no worries mate and I'm really glad that you found the video useful. I have a few more planned, time permitting, but I've been really taken aback with the feedback I've received about this series of videos. Hopefully it's a sign of more and more people discovering Bolt Action 😊

      Hey Simon, good to hear from you mate. That's awesome thank you! I wanted to keep the vehicle video as brief as I could to just cover transports and tank combat as these are what I imagine newer players of the game would likely be using when it comes to vehicles in Bolt Action 😊

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  2 года назад

      Hey Frik, the 88mm is something I've looked at but I think points cost it is a unit/piece that I would struggle to fit into any list. This is why I haven't added a Tiger or a Kingtiger to my German army yet 🙂

    I just started BA, so very basic question. A transport armed with HMG unloads its troops. When unloaded, can the transport still fire? ( always being closer to friendly units ). Can the empty transport move to reposition and fire? ( always being closer to friendly units ). In summary, is my empty transport a mobile support weapon? ( always being closer to friendly units )

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 года назад

      Welcome to Bolt Action! The answer to all three is yes. Once your transport has unloaded it's troops, it can essentially act as a mobile base of fire if it is equipped with the weapons to do so. I use M5 halftracks with my USMC and will use these to get the troops into combat but then have them provide offensive fire after the troops have disembarked. I always keep in mind that I need to be careful how I position them as if the enemy are closer at the end of the turn, that's an easy dice capture. Hope that helps! ☺

  • @mattcappelli5822
    @mattcappelli5822 4 года назад +1

    Question about transports... if they run off at the end of a turn because they are closer to an enemy unit, does your opponent get a victory point for the transport leaving (assuming the mission scores that way)?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  4 года назад

      Hey Matt. Yes, if the vehicle is removed at the end of the turn, it is deemed to be a casualty and so the victory points/dice are awarded to your opponent. It's a brutally simple way of obtaining victory points....😊

  • @Bodkin_Ye_Pointy

    Seems a bit unbalanced with the rules. The side armour of a Panther being only 1 point less than the front when in reality there was a significant difference. With regards to transports, like the nominated half track, is it worth taking. Within seconds of hearing about the rule with regards to enemy troops, I would have a five man inexperienced team waiting for the transport. As soon as the enemy disembarked and moved away, I am assuming the vehicle can not move again that turn. So your five man team just runs up to the side of the half track and voila, the half track goes the way of the dodo.

    So when you shoot a tank , no need dice to impact ? Just to damage ? 1 dice ,
    So , I have a Sherman 5pen, and shoot to a panther 9+ defense, and I get it from the side it’s +1 to the Sherman ,
    So I roll a D6=3,
    So get 5 pen+3(from the D6) + 1 (side armor shoot) = 9 , so I get equal to the tank because have 9+ (panther) and I make superficial damage , I have to trow a D6 to se damage,
    But If I get a 4 in my D6 roll, So get 5 pen+4(from the D6) + 1 (side armor shoot) = 10, so I get +1 to the tank because have 9+ (panther), so
    I make normal damage , roll a D6 and make the comparison table (1 stunt, 2 immobilized , 3 fire , 4,5,6 destroyed )
    It’s that correct??

    • @jesperwinther8299
      @jesperwinther8299 4 года назад +1

      Allmost. You still need to roll to se if you hit. After that, everything you wrote is correct.

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  4 года назад +1

      I would agree with what Jesper has said. You still need to roll to hit so the tank has to be in range and you have to take into consideration movement, cover. But if the hit is successful, your explanation above is correct yes 😊

    • @panzerrules6627

      Jesper Winther thanks jasper , so i roll a D6 to impact , in that roll I have all modifiers ? Like cover, long shoot , side armor, shoot from rear, open vehicle , etc? Like normal infantry you need 3+ to impact , with all modifiers you may need 4, 5 or 6, then I just trow the dice for damage like I described , and the regular , veteran, etc of the tank I will shoot don’t count like infantry , when you have a veteran infantry you need a 5-6 on D6 to damage/kill , and for the last , whats the effect of moral and pins on a tank ? Does they need to pass a regular order test for pins ? The veteran tank crew has 10 morale ? And you applied the regular rules like infantry when it comes to order test ?

    So what happens if a tank shoots a soft skin vehicle? How is the damage resolved

  • @edgarovsepian5988

    Question!
    If there are soviet tank riders riding a tank what condition would force them to disembark by the enemy?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  6 месяцев назад +1

      As soon as a tank with tank riders is declared as a target, the tank riders must disembark. This happens before any dice are rolled. The unit that disembarked is then given a down order. If the unit has already been given a down order, this is retained 😃👍

    Do tows work the same as transports?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 года назад +1

      Hey Matt. Vehicles can be both be transports and tows but once a vehicle is towing something it loses its transport capability. This is to represent the vehicle being taken up with the gun's crew, equipment and ammunition. Also if you add a weapon to some smaller transport vehicles (jeep, kubelwagen etc) they also lose their transport capability and take up the armoured car slot in the theatre selector 😊

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  4 года назад

      Yes, this is a discussion that my regular gaming buddy and I have had many times in the past. There is certainly something to be said about the actual role of transports and their overall cost. I'm not a big user of transport vehicles but I've always thought their points cost was a bit on the high side 😀

    • @jamesvalentine2845
      @jamesvalentine2845 4 года назад

      @@OnPointHQ I usually only use them for towing, or doing up as objectives. Or maybe a truck here or there.
      I'd unfortunately never warrant the cost of armoured transports even in a friendly game.
      Which is hugely unfortunate.

      Hope that the game went well buddy! I've used mine a few times and they've actually been quite good at getting squads into action quickly but also providing covering fire after the squads have left. Although I did use the 250/10 command vehicle once that was taken out in one shot! Really good versatile vehicles though 😀
