I think of the Squats like the Ogryn. Very elite, potentially scary, low count gang. I think the Squats are more of a threat over the whole campaign though, whereas Ogryn don't keep up. I don't see them discontinuing the full Squat gang box. The Hive Scum sprue was obviously designed to be sold in the small box of 4, the instructions were even the small size. Squats really need an upgrade sprue though, so much is missing from their kits it seems like. Maybe they might eventually expand on them in the future, given them prospects and super champs, who knows.
Thanks for this. More than a little helpful. I'm about to put together a Squat gang soon (using the Votann pioneer bikers). The new Kill team teaser got me going. But will admit I'll be outsourcing the centre pieces of my gang. I'll be having the gravs on those 3 Lovely Trikes the Votann have for wheels. A nice tip of the hat to the OLDE School Squats I remember from 2nd edition. Should be a fun Ash wastes gang & project 🤘🏻😁 I hope everyone is having an amazing weekend & much love to all from here in the UK
I see a gang going for bodies doing good in campaigns. Stick with just mesh armor and lean into the T4 for protection until you get Armored Undersuits at the trading post. Also I see Ironhead Stub Pistols and IH Autoguns putting in work. For 125 credits you can have an IH Autogun with a mono sight on a ganger with mesh armor.
@@wellywoodwargaming not saying you have to completely go without, but save the fancy stuff for the leader and Champs. But like any campaign, you got to make it through the first 3 or 4 games healthy before the credits and gear start rolling in.
@@stevenknox3413 true, though our campaign is quite unique in that you are locked out of your house list after creation in a way which means you really have to stock up on the good shit at creation or face a hard time getting them later on. Any other more conventional campaign though for sure
That would change things pretty dramatically and really puts squats in a tough spot. We play with a tax system that scales with the number of people/ brutes/ Hanger-ons your gang has and how much income you bring in. On average you only ever get to keep 30-40% of income generated. Really slows down the arms race.
The brute actually sounds awesome ... the statline is is as good or better than your leader and it comes with carapace and a heavy flamer (which on its own costs around 200points in most lists) its literally all upsides.
Currently waiting for magnets to arrive before building the gang, decided to go boys over toys with 8 bodies: leader p.pick/bolt pistol, 2 champs boltgun/stubgun, specialist autogun, 2 gangers 2 juves with stubguns and mesh on everyone. Stubguns are excellent but not sure how pistol will go with 4” movement, but I figured credits and gears will come during campaign One complain I have is that the box is lacking in options, not enough stubguns and empty hands and most of the special weapons options aren’t in there, hoping there will be an upgrade sprue announced this weekend(skirmish reveal event). Dependable like kin may lead to some potentially busted combo with archeotech device that give a trait and unstable on IH heavy stubber but I probably won’t abuse it. Even with just always overcharging plasma it will be strong in the campaign I reckon. Champions really feels slightly bad cause no shooting primary but specialists can probably get very strong with access to our special weapons and shooting primary. Scraps skill is only if you destroy a vehicle unfortunately but the tactic card mother lode will give a lot of credit I reckon
The one thing that always screws with me when it comes to necromunda is what do i actually do for a start roster when starting a new gang or campaign. Gotta love choice paralysis.
What are your thoughts on whether GW will expand the squats (and Ash Wastes Nomads) and, if so, whether they'll do it through FW or through their own plastic? Personally I'd be very surprised if we don't get a weapons and upgrades sprue for both (Ash Wastes Nomads are notably missing a few weapons options on their standard sprue already, which pretty much telegraphs GW's intention) but I wonder if they'll be given super champions, prospects and bespoke vehicles too?
Well the squats came out like a month ago and only have 8 models with a mech coming out and I believe the ridge hauler is meant to be the land train as the 3 things bought together says land train on the gw website
Hey man, great video. Have to throw my hat in the ring with stub guns. Such an easy miss but reliable, no frills, easy to reload and a solid s4 with dum-dum rounds. I'm putting a melta on someone because it's so fucking ridiculous. I'm almost tempted to stick it on a champ and get that free reroll. I've built a flamer because I can't help myself but I can't see it getting much use. I'm definitely fluff and kitbashing over rules and these little bastards have got my juices flowing. No idea how much I'll play them. I think the brute has potential to be nasty af given the right circumstances. Definitely getting van saar issues putting a list together. So damn expensive!
Haha the melta is outrageous beyond compare so definitely do it! As for those stub guns, 10 credits for a more reliable and more accurate autopiz that you can give dum dums to? Yes please 🙏 😍
Are the champions supposed to be the elderly squats in the gang? Since they have access to that skill tree. Were the Ancients in the old rules allowed to be HQ or were they all support characters?
Hey so how much were the pistols? Sorry I don't think you said the points for those and how many points are the gangers ? I'm confused with the new box because they're all drill kyn and a drill master.

Yeah thats my thinking on how I'd start a build and it's certainly much more competitive however it feels wrong not using all that fancy gear 😅

Hey! Could you make a video about Van Saar? Great video as always, cheers!
He already did quite some time ago.
Oh man - I can't decide who to put the Melta gun on. I think my squat gang will have to be called brotherhood of the traveling Melta gun...😅
Arnt they all called that ??😂
This really makes me wish for a RPG ruleset.
We played dark heresy in a similar setting. But a necromunda rpg would be fun. Make one
Never really liked squats but the minis are fine. They sound op at open field combat or in late campaign
I am interested in how they play but no interest in playing them myself.

Possibly yeah but then that's the same theme with all the super Champs on other gang lists too though, like finesse on death maidens etc
@@wellywoodwargaming Good point. I've thought it was odd on all the gangs, that the leader doesn't have easy access to the gang skills.

The stub guns 🔫 are just 10 points I believe, which is amazing especially with 5 cred dumdums
I love the models.
Been waiting for this all week.
Thanks for your patience! I have an awkward painting video coming next so that should be funny 😁
Aww cool man well I have had two games with my squats and they do ok not the best but still so much fun when you get max shoots.
Exactly my thinking. Let me know how you feel about them after a full campaign though for sure
I will do man got a campaign starting up in the next few weeks and I have my 7 squat gang ready to rock and roll.
@@duncandishington9568 I've only played one game and did not do very well but my leader with gunfighter and 2 bolt pistols... oh my.
Hail all
Hail!
Do I need the Ash Wastes box to use this gang fully?
Nope
Is a shame that GW didnt use these Squats as main faction, instead those ugly Votann nonsense.
I don't like either myself but I do quite like the new squat kill team with the coats
The Votann kill team would make for an excellent venator gang
