- Review of Cathay Pacific's entertainment, seats, food (twice), service, and overall value in economy class on an ultra long haul flight between Hong Kong and Chicago. This video will center more around the experiences of the passenger and include some logistics and specifications. I'll also go over what to expect for your next long haul flight on Cathay Pacific!

For those who didn't get the freeze time/"ZA WURLDO" reference, it's from a popular anime. Just google the phrase and it will come up :).
DISCLAIMER:
This video was filmed pre-COVID-19 outbreak. Some parts of what I've discussed in this video may no longer be relevant after COVID-19 and social distancing changes to the airline industry. This video revolves around MY opinions and experiences, and not everything I say has to be taken to heart. Additionally, the "Rankings" at the end of the video are based on this flight only and NOT necessarily the entire airline.
SOME CLARIFICATIONS:
Mövenpick Ice cream is a SWISS brand, not Swedish (Seriously an honest recording mistake I didn't catch). Regarding the seats, I believe my comment "the public doesn't mind the change too much" was misinterpreted. I'll acknowledge that A LOT of people disliked the change to the 10 abreast seating, but a few of us ALSO enjoy the new upgrades that came with the new seats (from what I saw on flyer forums). My comment was also meant to hint at the fact that 10-abreast seating is the standard now, and it's something that we're just getting used to (whether we like it or not unfortunately :/ ).

honestly dude, u r better than most major flight reviewers. keep up the amazing work
Thank you for your support! I'm no Sam Chui, but that comment means a lot 😃
Its great to see an Airline review RUclipsr having some enthusiasm and accuracy with their thoughts. I agree with the rating that you gave Pacific, I had a great experience with them and would be proud to fly them again.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed my take on Cathay! To many of us, Cathay Pacific is a wonderful airline (despite what some people think about the smaller seats).
Nice trip report! Cathay's long-haul economy experience won't disappoint! I also flew on their B777 from Hong Kong to Sydney and the experience was nice too! Their A350 new economy class seats are great as well! Definitely try them if you can in the future! Looking forward to your upcoming videos!
Hey, thanks! The 777 is very nice, and I heard about Cathay's A350 seats being awesome, and would LOVE to try them if I go back. Thank you for your lovely support!
Awesome video! just discovered your channel and subbed right away, i like your commentary very much
I'm most surprised that you're wearing shorts in January.
Thanks! As for the shorts, it was warm that day in Hong Kong, so I dressed accordingly. It was comfortable for the flight in Cathay's hot cabins, but I was freezing when I got back to Chicago lol.
Yes, I noticed the shorts too and thought, " Andrew is going to find out how cold it is in Chicago in March." I usually get cold on long haul flights so I bring various layers of clothing. Thanks for an enjoyable review. 🤗❤🙏🌎
Yay!! New video release. Haha I was getting a bit tired of watching the old ones, waiting for the new ones to come out. Although, I love your sense of humor.
Wow, thanks! So glad you enjoyed the jokes and watched the old cringe-y stuff I did lol :3
Another great review! Haven't flown Cathay yet, but I did fly Cathay Dragon in December. CX looks really good on longhaul! Would rather fly them to HKG over the AA 77W that I flew instead...
Cathay Pacific has a really nice experience compared to the legacy carriers, but AA long haul has its perks too 😄
Good video! Won’t be long you’ll reach 100k sub! 👍🏻
Oh man, that'd be the best day ever! Thanks! :3
Thank you for visiting my home city of Chicago, Andrew's Aviation!!!
My pleasure, since its my home airport! 😁
So happy you took my local airline and went to my local airport. Keep the good work up. AC
Of course! Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong International Airport are AMAZING. I can't wait for the next chance I get to go there!
AC - You sounded like you didn't enjoy that fish dish hey :-) thanks for sharing this with us.
The fish was ok, but I just saw some room for improvement. But in the end, I'll take free food any day 😂. Glad you enjoyed!
I love the 777-367ER because of its design and their GE90 engine. I usually like the 3-3-3 configuration because it has a ton of space.
I've flown this route in Sept 2014 and it was one of my favorite flights despite being in the middle seat. The food was delicious and the service was on point. Tons of snacks onboard and you can ask for extras if you're still hungry!! I hope to fly this route again in the future.
Totally agree with you! A lot has changed in 6 years, but the food and service are the best parts of the flight. I hope to fly this route again too 😁
Fantastic trip report. Seems like you are really enjoying the heaven of food on this flight, and to be honest, you would definitely commit a crime if not enjoyed the food you had on this CX flight lmao. Otherwise, the experience looks really nice 👌
Thanks! The food was awesome and I ended up eating a ton of snacks after dinner lol. Part of what makes a good flight is good food! :3
I flew AA from Detroit to Chicago then Cathay Pacific 777 300 er to Hongkong then 777 200 to Manila About 18hrs on premium economy for 1800 usd round trip you get more food then you need I used Expedia had no problems Hongkong is Cathays main hub so it made traveling easy This was back in October 2019 I will Fly Cathay again
Wow that's quite the journey (and the price tag). I agree Cathay Pacific is such a nice airline, especially in their upgraded cabin classes. Delta used to have direct service to Manila from DTW operated by 747s/777s, but I only remember that back around 2015. Delta's may be one of the nicer US carriers, but Cathay Pacific is on it's own level.
awesome trip report, hopefully you had a good flight
I did, and it was a wonderful flight even in economy! Thank you so much for your support! :3
I enjoyed the portion of the video at 3:34 in which one could make out trees. I also enjoyed the bit at 12:28 where one can assume there are trees visible.
I found this comment helpful.
Thanks
Your passion for trees is remarkable, now count every tree shown
LOL
Great review! I'm flying this airline for the first time next month
Thanks, great videos, you're always sounding so upbeat. 😀 2:54...5:49 holy cr@p, he's cute! 🤭 I did HKG to CDG a few years back, 13-14 hours (premium) and recently "survived" just under 9 hours in economy on CX from HKG to BNE; not sure I could do extra long haul again anytime soon.
Hey man, I just stubbled upon your channel, great video... I really love Cathay. Definitely subscribing
this full meal thing in the middle of the flight is only existed on CX (UA had that before too but glad they see it wont work), most people are asleep, then when they wake up, there is nothing for them to eat
Interesting. So that's on UA for the same flight between the same cities?
@@andrewsaviation7792 Yep, UA had been flying this route since 1995 as UA 895/896, it cancelled 7 months ago
Awesome video. Cathay Pacific are my preferred choice to Asia if flying long-haul. It's especially good if you manage to get the bulkhead seats or emergency exit. It's one of the few airlines I look forward to travelling in economy with! Subscribed :-)
Absolutely. Extra legroom is super nice on a long haul flight, especially with an airline as nice as Cathay. Welcome to the club :)
Late to the partry, but thanks for the bright and succinct report. Interesting to note a mask on at least one ground staff back in January. The menu seemed very familiar too, almost exactly the same as my HKG-BOS flight in Dec 19 in PE. The braised beef was very tasty.
Economy looks OK on a single, albeit long, sector. I was glad for PE on SYD-HKG-BOS, and even more glad with J on BOS-HKG-SYD the week after this flight :)
Thanks! Business class sounds super nice on Cathay, and the food is tasty even in the back of the plane!
awesome trip report! Food seemed good. Liked and subbed
It was amazing and matched Cathay Pacific's high service quality! And welcome to the club :3
Great video! I am also a Chicago guy and I've taken that flight several times. Next time I hope to make it to Business Class! AC!
Thanks! Hope you get to business class sometime. Cathay's services in that section are AMAZING compared to economy. :D
3-4-3 feels very cramped. Compared to Singapore Airlines 3-3-3 or 2-4-2
Yeah, no kidding. 3-3-3 is comfier and spacious, and it's too bad that most airlines have made 3-4-3 the standard. But at least it shows that Boeing designed a good aircraft with the capability for flexible seating layouts :)
very nice video! love this airport...love this airline..and like your chanel. Great!
Thank you very much for your nice compliment! HKG and Cathay Pacific do make for a great combo :)
Amazing!
Thank you :)
Damn this doesn't look like a channel with only 700 subs. Also I'm disappointed when there were no donuts when you said za warudo.
Haha thanks, more subs would be a dream. If you mean donuts as in special effects, that was beyond my editing skills at the time 😅
your content is awesome! Congrats!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed :)
My longest flight experience were Sydney to Vancouver with 3 hrs layover in Honolulu, around 20 years ago. It took 8.5 hrs to Hawaii and another 6 hrs to Vancouver. That a total of 17+ hours include layover. I have no idea how I can manage a trip like that 20 years ago, and I don't know what kind of plane I was flying ! All I can remember was the plane had 5 seats in the middle row and I were sitting in the middle. Damn, maybe I was as young as you by that time~~!!!
Sounds like one heck of a trip (especially in a middle seat lol)! I don't know of any planes with 5 seats in the middle, but if I had to guess it would be a 747 with 9-abreast seating? Doing the journey in one go is hard, but in my experience, stops and long layovers can make the trip even harder. I flew from Chicago to Singapore with a 2hr stopover in HKG for a total of around 23hrs of traveling (videos on my channel). Thanks for sharing! :3
It sounds like he was on either a DC-10 or 777-200 because those are the only two aircraft I know of that have a 2-5-2 layout.
Makes sense. A few airlines also had 5 abreast middle seating on their L-1011s now that I think about it.
this is a great review!
AC *wink*
Seems that this Cathay offered a nicer experience on their Economy product.
I had 4 flights with Air China last summer, tho I appreciate their 3-3-3 layout on their 777, it seems that they lack consistency, something that Cathay got right.
I agree. That's pretty cool you got to fly with Air China a few times, but it must be weird getting different experiences with the same ticket lol. Although seating might be a little condensed in economy, Cathay is great at the consistency of their product.
Awesome review Andrew. Very thorough and entertaining!
Thank you very much!
Just subscribed I will be flying from JFK to Hong Kong thank you for the video
Amazing trip report. Great channel liked
@Travel & Plane World, thanks for your support!
great report, although you said they did the announcement in Chinese but they actually did it in Cantonese :) it seems like a small difference but they're two completely different languages. Love your video tho!!
Oh! Thank you for letting me know about that! That was my mistake lol :3
Awesome review! 😘
Much appreciated, thank you! :3
Thanks
Nice report!
Long flight, not a big fan of 3-4-3. But what can you do? At least Cathay has good service and still looks reasonably comfortable. What camera do you use?
Yeah, 3-4-3 isn't the best, and it's sad to see the 3-3-3 layout go. All my equipment is listed in the description and my camera is a Cannon PowerShot G7 X Mark II
So cute. Like a bedtime story ❤❤
Ac! Solid report .
@Luis K thanks :)
Great video I have flyed Cathay pacific to Delhi
777-300ER 10 abreast was tight as and I’m a small guy !
Hong Kong and Cathay are screwed until borders are opened up. Life needs to go on. I used to take this route in J every month. No longer.......
No kidding... The US is on careful watch from countries all over the world and international trade is vital for Hong Kong's business's. It's really cool that you got to fly this route often in J since Cathay Pacific's business class is pretty nice! I'm sure we'll get to fly on this route again eventually :)
Good with a snack bar. My biggest fear is getting thirsty or hungry on long haul.
Right. Thankfully Cathay Pacific's got us covered. Although the good snacks will go pretty quickly sometimes :3
I am flying them in Feb and I have been told the London to Hong Kong flight is not good
The best airline
ZA WARDO i like yr quote!
I have ride Cathay pacific like I was 6 years old
Since you were 6?! I'm so jealous. They seem like such a nice airline to grow up with :)
now cathay Pacific.
My fvrt airline. To NY, Toronto, n many times hk. ,
It's definitely not true that the flyers are OK with the 10-abreast densification. Most people hated it and it puts Cathay at the same level as the other lower ranked airlines.
Interesting. I believe that, but for the video I was going off some of the articles I read from the change. It mentioned that many people were displeased, but overall it was accepted after a while (kind of / not really). It's kind of about how the public is starting to get used to the jam-packed area that is "economy class" nowadays :p
Andrew's Aviation The average traveller (unlike most people watching these videos) doesn’t know what aircraft type they’re flying nor the difference between 9 and 10-abreast seating. That said, people do complain on flight forums about the lack of seat width on 777s with 10-abreast seating. 🤔
Hello new here. Can I know how old are you and what made you come to hk? Are you working here and are you a pilot? Thankss
Which seat is it did you take I wanted this one as well plssss tell me
Thanks Andrew. AC
Are the noodles vegetarian?
I love Cathay Pacific but the new livery looks ok but I prefer the old one their food was good and I never got bored theirs so much to do unlike KLM they are sometimes abit boring
Cathay Pacific's dark green livery sure was stunning and it looked fabulous on their 747s. I haven't flown KLM, but Cathay Pacific did a great job compared to budget airlines for sure :3
Andrew's Aviation I flown Cathay from London to Hong Kong and its was my best flight ever I had to change a Hong Kong for dragon air both were amazing
That's awesome. Some of my best flights have been with Cathay Pacific. Full service Asian carriers really seem to know what their doing when it comes to passenger service.
Andrew's Aviation I’m Asian so I understand why they do this to maintain professionalism
@@itsdanguo0519 Makes sense. When appealing an airline to the world, it's probably best to make themselves look as good as possible :)

Perfect trip report. Greetings from miftahjaya96 youtube channel, goodluck for you Andrews Aviation

Before u state something you may double check it first before misleading your viewers! Mövenpick is a SWISS Brand but not Swedish. Also I like you to publish those sources stating most people don’t care about 10 across seating on their B773W aircrafts. All people I know with a “long nosed = Gweillos) saying the opposite and -same as me- trying to avoid those aircrafts whenever it is possible.
Finally, main warm dish in general - especially beef in all variations- is fat and without taste. And due to the fact they offering plastic cutlery I don’t not agree with yr statement CX is worth then 5*, nevertheless if skytrax or others. I suggest you study more serious sources and you will out their economy class never or seldom appears within the top 10 and this was before removed the 3-3-3 configuration. Poor for an Asian 5* airline.
You are very beautiful !
I'd never consider an airline that reconfigured its 777"s to 10 abreast a PREMIUM Airline. More lie LOW COST if you ask me smh...
Thanks, but i don't fly economy.
its better than cx807
Music has ruined the whole video
