Last time I travelled with CX, I also had the entire row to myself. I used all three seats as a makeshift bed. Felt like business class to me at Economy price 😂. Nice trip report 👍
happy and glad you were able to switch to an earlier flight. Kudos to that manager. Korean Air delayed my LAX to ICN last year by over 5 hours, would've missed my connecting flight to SYD. I arrived at LAX a day prior from Miami, and before I headed to the airport hotel, I went to the check in desk & expressed my concern about the misconnection and how I have to be in SYD that day. The manager was unwilling to help. He said 'come back tomorrow and we will put you on another ICN SYD flight 24 hrs later... So at the end, I had to borrow someone's phone (didn't have free international calls) to ring up Korean Air's hotline and then they were able to route me via Honolulu to LAX and still make it to my SYD flight.
27:07 no, demand can be high, just depends where you fly from, sometimes flights can be empty which is what happened to your flight. Usually demand from Hong Kong to JFK is quite high
Great video. It reminds me of several round trips I made between the US and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between 2004 and 2009. I always took an Asian carrier over the Pacific from LAX to Taipei or HK and then on to KL..I have flown on Korean Airlines, China Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Eva Airlines. But I don''t think I ever flew on Cathay Pacific. All the Asian airlines were good to excellent. Flying back to the US was about 90 mins faster with the jet stream and I always felt relieved when I landed at LAX. I still had a 6-7 hour flight on a US carrier to my home in Columbus, Ohio. I will definitely consider Cathay Pacific if I ever fly to Asia again..Thanks for sharing...James, USA
More than 25 years ago i was lucky too with a 3 seat row for myself but in the B 744..amazing is still Cathay with airplanes and Services. Take care greetx from Frankfurt. Kai
heading to hkg soon, looking forward to the CX flight. Thanks for the video. Question: since you did not select your seat, how was your seat given to you?
I just took this flight ✈️ last week and it was a full flight. I was in economy plus with my wife and 20 month old daughter. Economy plus it’s great but you can’t lift the arm rest 😅.
Advice for eating chicken at a buffet. Unless it is fried chicken or chicken in a sauce, after sitting more than 15 minutes under a heat lamp or over a warmer, the chicken dries out.
Awesome trip report. I think it's due to 2 flights of CX departing only an hour difference, so passengers had options to choose so each flight wasn't very highly-loaded. And that helped you to have a full row, which was brilliant for this long flight
CX seem to have served the second meal prior to landing. My last few flights, CX served them mid flight so Pax were left hungry prior to landing, especially those who missed the second meal. I skipped using them due to this and the pandemic.
Good to know that SFO has Mayor Edwin Lee International Terminal in memory of him, he was my late family member and was died suddenly when he served as mayor. His mother is sister of my grandmother who is now nearly 100 years old.
I have the same flight in October. I know Alaska doesn't print the boarding passes for Cathay Pacific for some reason, but I know the bags still get checked through. Couldn't you have picked up your boarding passes at the gate rather than exiting the secure area and going to the main counter in SF, only to have to go through security again? That's what I was planning to do to save time.
@TheTripReporter I flew Alaska a few months ago and they wouldn't print my EVA passes. I thought I had to go to the main counter in SF. Only after the fact did I realize I could just get the passes at the gate now that the terminals are connected. Live and learn.
However, I noticed that flights with Cathay Pacific between Hong Kong and cities like London, Paris, and Milan in May and early June are extremely crowded, even though it's not considered peak season. This has been my experience both this year and last year.
Ah yes. The inflight map on board Cathay Pacific. Every summer I usually fly on board Cathay Pacific either on their A350-900, B777-300ER, or if I’m lucky, the A350-1000. I fly from Hong Kong to London and back and I never get board of Cathay, especially the inflight map
How many hours did you sleep, I know you use miles, but do you remember how much you pay to fly from Seattle to Cebu via San Francisco and Hong Kong and how's security in Hong Kong?
Sad to see American nor Alaska uses T2 at SFO. I used to fly in/out of SFO Terminal 2 when American operated out of there years ago, and have many memories of Terminal 2 at SFO.
Could you please tell your height whenever you mention “good legroom”. Definition of good legroom for 5.4 feet tall guy vs 6 feet tall person will be different
yup travel demand is not high between the States and HK as a result of couple of things: 1 . political tension causing trade disputes and so less business travels, 2. HK, China's economic downturn causing reduction of long haul travels 3. strong USD causing travel demand shift to non USD denominated countries such as Japan, southeast asia. Cathay is one of the world's safest and high quality airlines.
There are 3 purchase levels for economy. The 1st is only 1 free check-in bag (23kg) , the 2nd is 2 x check-in bag (2x23kg) + free seat selection (other than exit row)
I have not done long haul flights wuth Cathay but flown on short and medium duration fkights a lot. Theur service has deteriorated, flights are often late, inflight food sometimes is below average and overall they are nowhere close to what they used ti be pre Covid. I would not choose it if i have other full service flights available.
A superb video underscoring the plush and refined services of Cathay Pacific on a long-haul flight.
Really like Cathay Pacific. Service is awesome.
Bull.
I enjoyed this video very much, I am using Cathay Pacific business class from London to Manila via Hong Kong, looking forward to it. Great video 👍

Pre pandemic they had 21 weekly flights and now it’s only 9. They need more capacity rn.
Did you get your boarding pass at the gate or did you exit and go to the main counter?
@@dmatt3425 My first flight originated in Bangkok, so I received both boarding passes (BKK-HKG & HKG-SF) while checking in at BKK.

Great video. Were they srrict eith the checked bag weight. Are you flipino. How would you rate the flight from one to ten
They weren’t strict with checked back weight, and yes I am Filipino (cebuano)
Nice video.
9:30, Did you ask the crew to move to a empty seat or you move to 69K by yourself?

CX needs to constantly improve their service as competition from SQ, JL, NH is very strong.
They cannot rest on their laurels.
Looks great! But weird that T2 is basically delta, breeze, air Canada, and United. Looks unusual without Alaska.
What if Cathay Pacific had business and premium economy only??
Were they strict with carry on luggage sizes?
No
