I hauled tons of jet fuel for ATA to IND back in the 90's with a company called Jet Star.

In 1999 McKesson Co. took employees & SO’s to a President’s Club on a chartered ATA. The L-1011 was set up for prisoner transport & had leg shackles in leather pockets under the seats. 3 guys got drunk and handcuffed each other, but there weren’t keys on board. It didn’t end well for them.

Just saw PSA Livery AA jet recently at SFO. Cool looking. Also seen American West one as well

A colleague and I used to fly to Jacksonville, FL from Newark on Sunday mornings. To compensate for the no frills we would take a full Sunday Brunch set-up on board with us including champagne, , OJ, lox, bagels, and occasionally a tin of caviar with all the fixings. Just try to do that today!

I commuted weekly between NYC and Indianapolis for about four years. ATA became my mainstay airline. Their legroom, service, and new planes put them a step above their main competition on that route, US Air.

Oh gosh! Growing up between Chicago and Indianapolis, my family always took ATA for family trips. They made flying fun!!! I will always remember the surfboard drink star sticks. Thanks for this video!

I flew Midwesr Express DEN to Milwaukee in 2001 for summer vacation. I was astonished at the comfortable seats ans superb food. I wish it was still around.

There was absolutely no reason to mention the new “Eastern” as they had nothing to do with legacy Eastern’s history. Just because some Johnny Come Lately investors bought the intellectual property doesn’t connect them (AT ALL) to the real Eastern.

I was born in ‘82 and I remember when my Grandfather worked for Eastern. I remember hearing about the strikes and picket signs🪧 and stickers, pins, and things he’d bring home with Lorenzo’s name crossed out. 🚫 Interesting to hear this history

I recall seeing an ATA L-1011 land at the Columbia, SC airport. I was in awe at the sight of such a massive plane at that tiny airport and wondered why it was there but released it was for troop transport since Columbia is home to Fort Jackson. Jumbo tri-jets like that are so cool!

I always hated starting Pipers. I sucked at it yet i could start a Cessna with my eyes closed.

The first time I ever flew on an airplane was on a PSA 737 from Portland to San Francisco in 1987. I was 8 years old. My parents were taking me to Disneyland for the first time. The flight crew let me go into the cockpit before taking off. They gave me wings, and the Captain told me to say hello to my parents on the public address system. They served breakfast during the flight and two rounds of beverages. When we landed I saw the reverse thrust being activated and the engine reconfiguring to do so. I thought something had broken but my mom reassured me it was normal. We changed planes in San Francisco and flew to John Wayne. To this day I still think of and miss flying PSA.

I won't fly Cathay Pacific again. I've flown with them quite a few times in the past unfortunately, in February 2023, they refused to allow me to change my flight for compassionate reasons. I was going to fly to Singapore frim Vancouver to see my terminally brother but he passed away earlier than expected. Cathay wanted to charge $1,000 for an earlier flight. Cathay won't be making any more money from me!

I got hired as a flight attendant by Eastern in 1976. They told me I’d be based in Boston but could probably make it to Miami in 18 months or so. I chickened out and went with another carrier. Eastern always had a place in my heart. I retired last year, I was so lucky to have a great career.

RIP. I heard this airline might come back in mid-2025. As a Milwaukee area resident, I surely hope Midwest comes back and adds tons of flights from MKE. Awesome video!

Between 1985 and 1989, I lived in Long Beach for work and had a home in San Francisco. The Midnight Flyer was my weekend mode of transportation home...long live PSA!

I will always remember working for US in ALB when Midex Dispatch contacted me regarding us handling a diverting DC-9-30 enroute BOS-MKE with a fuel pump issue that wouldn't have ended well had they proceeded. After getting quickly getting the necessary approvals, i was all too happy to give them the thumbs-up, gate space, etc. as i believe we also handled them in BOS at the time. Their people couldn't have been kinder and our line maintenance guys were able to help them as they were quite familiar with the DC-9-30. After the repaired aircraft was ferried out of ALB, i got a very nice call from Midex thanking us for all our help. They were insistent on returning the favor somehow, and while i knew US would likely get a check for our services, i couldn't help but say "I hear you are rather famous for your cookies.." I had no idea that they would ship to us the biggest box of chocolate chip cookies i will ever see in my life. Everyone had more than enough cookies for themselves, family, friends, etc. Midwest Express was a class act who still bring the fondest memories and a longing for their high level of service.

I use to watch PSA land at SFO in the 70's and always loved seeing that big smile on the front of their planes!!!! And as i recall, those 727's were one of the loudest airplanes taking off down the runways!!!👍🌉

Let’s not forget that Braniff was one of the airlines (along with Continental and Trans-Texas in the beginning) that kept Southwest Airlines in court from its inception in 1967. Southwest wouldn’t make its first flight until June 1971 as a result, and today, Southwest is the only one of the three still flying.

Just a correction… that aircraft is a BAe (as in British Aerospace) 146… not BEA. Otherwise great video.

PSA was also known for having attractive FA's unlike the sky hags you see on AA these days

My Dad got his start in commercial aviation with PSA in 1987 after his 23 year Navy career. I miss PSA

Popular airlines....when Midway Airlines went out of business, the CEO of Southwest Airlines (Herb), stepped in and opened a hub in Chicago, employed Midway Airlines staff, so they wouldn't lose their job. Herb was a great example of leadership.....RIP Herb❤

My grandfather and his brother Salvatore Sammy Dilavore and his brother my uncle Johnny Dilavore worked there over 30 years grandfather sheet metal supervisor and Johnny ran the tool room both busted their tails for all that time and got screwed on their retirement

Thanks I flew from BRU to Newark in the mid 80th paying onbord, the return flight had a female captain at that time not common, What a splendid business idea We have south west and Ryan air now flying low cost, the flag carrier struggels with constant huge losses like SAS, but SW and Fr are making money, they have grown into huge airlines, unfortuantly Fank is gone. Now we have online booking ticketing so Peoples business model would work much better today. Some one should start this now, also the fuel consumption is much less.

I flew them several times. Very nice seats and friendly flight attendants. Those cookies were a great companion to the coffee.

Nice video, thanks. I was a regular PSA pax in the 70's when we lived in San Diego, GREAT AIRLINE. I was 15, 16, 17 years old and fell in LOVE with every flight attendant on every flight. Because of PSA I started taking flying lessons and got my license when in high school, later became an Air Traffic Controller. Still a pilot and aircraft owner 52 years later.

I flew on PSA a lot. $19 each way OAK to LAX in late 70s. Super hip and really fun. Really miss them.

Is flying from hong kong to Brisbane on a350 of Cathay Pacific economy a good experience? I am a little uncomfortable of the closed spaces and sometimes panic due to the feeling of being trapped. Please advise me.

Make no mistake, the union killed Eastern Airlines. We would suck up the money Eastern lost every time they went on strike. It was gravy. I’m for collective bargaining, but you got to know when back off. It does your family no good to have to start all over again when they should caring about school and the like.

ATA was one of my best customers and of all the carriers that I dealt with, ATA people were among the very best.

So sad, Braniff was a forward looking airline, great promotions, colors, and those fun stewardesses.

Ironically, airlines in the USA are still failing today. Recently, Hawaiian Airlines was bought out by Alaskan Airlines, because its only other option was going bankrupt and shutting down. Now in addition, Spirit is in severe financial trouble. The failed merger with JetBlue may be the end of the airline within the next year unless someone else tries to buy it out like Frontier - but it is not doing particularly well either.
