  • An LLC based in Bellingham, Washington quickly ran into deep trouble after beginning operations. Their time in the aviation industry was limited, as the airline only flew for 20 days. This video gives a brief description about who Western was, their service goals, what lead to their unfortunate demise, and what we've learned going forward.

    SOME CLARIFICATIONS:
    in the pictures showing Western Airlines, I used whatever picture I could find that I had permission to use and/or wasn't copyrighted. That being said, not every picture of Western is the plane in a perfect "Western" livery. After N42XA was done flying for Western, Xtra Airways leased the aircraft to Direct Air Myrtle Beach, which is why some photos show the plane in that livery.

    I'm Hungarian and I live in Budapest. I see ASL's 737 planes every morning when they return to their home base. Never thought that one of them could be Western's aircraft. Thanx for this video too, I love yur channel!

      I'm so happy you enjoyed. An aircraft's history can be so interesting sometimes, especially when it's previously flown with defunct airlines!

    I had heard of them, but didn't know they only lasted twenty days. I'm surprised Delta didn't retain the Western name/brand so it couldn't be used by anyone else.

    i worked for Xtra and was there when the set up bli base, it cost xtra over 1mil to get it set up and western never paid a dime. we through about running it on our own as scheduled service but didnt have reservation infrastructure in place and so we operated the flight for 10 days after western defaulted as required by DOT and sent the plane to direct air. technically western operated 10 days and xtra operated 10 days of returning ticketed passengers as required under DOT part 380

    Certainly, I, any any number of California, Oregon, BC, Alberta and Washington residents flew Western for years. It was just part of our world. (That credit card fiasco sounds like a beaurocratic, rather than a biz, problem.) I also flew turboprops with West Coast, who pretty much stuck to Washington. I loved the F27 because it's high wing allowed good viz. They could get into smaller towns in Wash. in winter, when fog sets in.

    In a deal valued at about $860 million, Delta Air Lines will buy Los Angeles-based Western Airlines, the nation’s oldest scheduled air carrier, the two companies announced Tuesday.
    Delta purchased Western in 1986.

      Maybe some start up airline calling its self Western but it was not the original Western airlines which operated for decades.

    What about the flop Trump Airlines?

    • @cxa340
      @cxa340 3 года назад +4

      You mean Trump Shuttle? Which was Eastern Airlines shuttle, was purchased in bankruptcy to become Trump Shuttle, was sold to US Air to be US Air Shuttle, and is now American Shuttle? Be it Pan Am, Delta, Eastern, Trump, US Air, or American the shuttle routes have been very volatile and Pan Am Shuttle lost money the same time that Trump Shuttle did, and in the end Trump did better then Pan Am who sold out to Delta.
