"I do not want to bring this uncontrollable aircraft back over the ground and have it fall on people in their houses. We will stay out over the water and if this airplane comes apart, we will be in the ocean". Now that's what I call a captain.
The problem with that is that the airline just doesn't have personnel ready to take over in any particular Location. So even after a long day you may have to take the airplane further at least one more leg to get it someplace. It's all based on Prescribed duty limits.
Whoever wrote that rude note had no idea how close they came to be coming burned DNA chunks. To hell with your missed connection, if only they knew, instead of a nasty note a nice hug and thank you would have been in order.
I’ve been in one emergency landing in my life and even though it wasn’t necessarily a life threatening problem I made sure to thank the pilots for landing the plane safely because if the pilots believe they need to make an emergency landing then who am I to contest. safety over everything else.
Great video and explanation!! Amazing piloting and I hope that annoyed passenger eventually realized that all that screwing around over LA is the only reason he got to wake up the next day.
these pilots were true heroes, choosing not to fly near people's homes so if they're down innocent people wont get killed and excellent crew resource management
I think what I find remarkable is that the Captain had already played the crash scenario over a few times in his head but still had the professional demeanor to keep that rising fear under control and work the problem. Panic will kill you as we’ve seen in other episodes where the pilots lose their composure and do rash things. This crew was awesome.
Love your videos, and the way you present these incidents. I've watched them all. Just a very minor suggestion: Perhaps you could get the actors to spend a few minutes listening to ATC recordings so they can get a feel for the way pilots and ATC usually speak? They tend to maintain a strong professional demeanor even in the most dire situations, so hearing the ATC sounding panicked, and the captain using a very dramatic tone for everything can be a bit distracting. (This is of course a problem in TV series like Mayday too, I'm not specifically singling you out). And specifically writing out correct phraseology like "Runway two four" so the ATC doesn't say "twenty-four" might help too.
Lol. Your narration is entertaining. The inflections in your voice...and those crew voices! Haha! Keep it up. This is hilarious! "Let me reset these switches up here (whatever they are)." "Oh, and by the way, we might be crashing soon."
another awesome video....I literally can't wait for the next one. The way you use Air traffic control dialogue with computer generated accents is the best amongst all the content that's presented on RUclips, it really puts you in the seat of the pilots far more effectively than the commentator or presenter doing the voices (Green Dot Aviation, mentor Pilot) your scripting of the events also written very effectively with no unnecessary information. My number one aviation channel on RUclips, keep up the amazing work! to comment briefly about the content, just makes you appreciate the cool heads required to be pilots, especially in life threatening scenarios, you have to have the most positive mindset even in the face of potential disaster. I don't know how you actually train for that, given the simulator is just a simulator, outstanding work all round! As for the grumpy passenger (and every grumpy passenger for that matter) sit back, relax and simply marvel at the fact you sat in a seat in the sky and had to do nothing, being late is your own fault for not factoring in a buffer of time, always (where possible) factor in a buffer of time for potential delays out of your control.
Simply outstanding video. As I’ve mentioned knowing what the crew is saying adds a new dimension. And I doubt that any other channel would have included the nugget of the impatient passenger. Finally it’s always refreshing to see an incident of which I was previously unaware. And exceedingly uncommon these days. Thanks for all your good work.
A minor note about the force diagram, the thrust is at the exhaust of the engine not the inlet. The L-1011 has an S-duct so the inlet is above the body but the exhaust is more in line with it.
Don't want to look like a smart @ss but my understanding is that when it comes to turbofan engines thrust isn't generated by neither inlet nor exhaust as those are just technological openings. Please correct me if I'm wrong but thrust is generated in combustion compartment and by turbine blades (and a bit by a compressor). Former is located closer to aft but latter is closer to the front part of a turbine. Anyway as they are all sitting above centre of gravity they have pretty much effect on the aircraft.
Great upload Great crew especially the captain. His choice to stay over the water was well done not risking innocent people including children in their homes.
Lol I'm glad you put the voice actor credits in the description. Funnily enough I recognized Michael Neeb's voice from "Drug Dealer Simulator" 😅 I somehow doubt the overlap between the audiences of that game and this aviation channel is very wide, but there's at least me! 😁👍 Great video!
That note shouldn’t have been given to the flight crew! It should have been given to someone on the ground who could have explained exactly why the so called “screwing around” happened, before it was shoved down the passenger’s throat along with one from the airline, telling the passenger they would never fly that airline again! They should then have sent her to some seedy hotel and in the morning sent her by bus to her destination!
That complaint by that one passenger at time 19:10 must be Hermione Granger of Harry Potter 🙂 Hermione: "Now, if you two don't mind, I’m going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed or worse… expelled!"
A bit surprised gear down caused a pitch UP. Would have thought the extra drag below CG to produce a slight pitch down moment. Just shows how these folks had to be ready for anything.
Pretty sure if they had needed to lose some weight they should have jettisoned that passenger. No professional pilot “screws around” with his plane for the hell of it. If something like that happened he should have weighed the delay against death.
The only thing I feel like I might have done differently is declared an emergency as soon as I confirmed the trim wasn't working. No electrical, no mechanical, that's enough for me to forget about any traffic pattern tedium.
Wow, those pilots and flight engineer were something else! The Captain should have had every award available for his skill saving this plane! Unfortunately these amazing saves and tales of outstanding airmanship are brushed under the public’s rug and people don’t get to know how amazing the crew were on that flight until so much later. Thanks for bringing this story in to the light. Great video put together extremely well.
The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar was the first jet I ever flew on. Like all tri-jets it was a nasty compromise, built to allow long flights over oceans, cheaper to operate than 4 engines, but difficult to maintain.
That's what I call AMERICAN PILOTS - calm, focused, professional, smart, able to do prompt analysis of the situation. Having Russian background I wish Russian civil aviation pilots were at least distantly similar to their American colleagues. Although I doubt that it will ever happen.
RUclips are you for real! An advertisement for a “man’s balls” shaver! Introducing the Lawn Mower 4.0! Really, is there a huge market for this out there? Is there a plan for men, to expose their nuts on public beaches, you know like armpits? 🤌🏻🙄🤦🤭😂 Oh wait I get it, it’s for sex equality, women are tired to be the only one required to do Brazilian wax, so….😂

3 Greens is one of those channels that doesn't put out much content, but every video he puts out is a gem
Those pilots must have been exhausted after that. They should have been taken off to rest and debrief, instead of immediately flying again.
Absolute chads

@@neatstuff1988and that’s particularly true of budget airlines, who due to their cheaper flights, don’t have “on call” staff ready to take over.
I love your use of older Simulators, as someone who still uses p3d and FSX its nice to see people still apreciating these exallant sims!
They are excellent! And much more versatile than MSFS I find
@@3Greens Agreed

Yes indeed!
Brilliant airmanship combined with the benefits of the tri-jet design.
"we had up, but no down" summed up perfectly
these pilots were true heroes, choosing not to fly near people's homes so if they're down innocent people wont get killed and excellent crew resource management

yesss thats an amazing idea!
She also said "Seal Breach" LOL
That never ceases to amaze me as to how professional ATC and pilots are in emergency situations!

A really good re-enactment. Thank you.

🙂Good to know! Thanks for the comment mate

“Help me with the controls”
This is why interconnected yokes are better than side sticks IMHO ✌️💯
Great job on the crew🤘
Astonishing airmanship ❤️✌️💯
Great upload

Amazing pilots. Incredible teamwork.
Thanks for sharing that great video. This captain deserves a medal, what a cool guy!

Textbook CRM, that crew sure had the "right stuff".
This is by far the smartest people ive seen handle a plane issue like this
Good video and well explained. I enjoyed . You don’t speak too fast like other similar type of videos . Keep it up
Great airmanship
Another brilliant video, really enjoying seeing your channel grow 😊
That complaint by that one passenger at time 19:10 must be Hermione Granger of Harry Potter 🙂
Hermione: "Now, if you two don't mind, I’m going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed or worse… expelled!"
I like to balance out the crash videos with the amazing recovery videos. Sometimes you need an Aloha Airlines 243 or a British Airways 5390.
This was really good. Excellent story and excellent story telling. Thanks.
A bit surprised gear down caused a pitch UP. Would have thought the extra drag below CG to produce a slight pitch down moment. Just shows how these folks had to be ready for anything.
Hope they informed that disgruntled passenger that they were lucky to be alive after the control ordeal... 😁
One thing I've learned from all these crashes and incidents is that troubleshooting should be avoided if a return or landing is possible
Pretty sure if they had needed to lose some weight they should have jettisoned that passenger. No professional pilot “screws around” with his plane for the hell of it. If something like that happened he should have weighed the delay against death.

Very good! The one kept me in suspense! Thank you!
I want a crash seat with airbags installed in the rear stabilizer. That thing is always left recognizable after nearly every crash 😂.
I would rather see more of these success stories than the tragic ones.

The captain got FAA's Distinguished Service Award
Sounds like whoever wrote that note hadn’t been punched in the mouth enough in their life.
i hope the guy who missed his meeting was financially compensated by the airline.
Great airmanship! Fuel available, I would have chosen Edwards?👨✈️
Good to know Karen’s aren’t a recent things and they existed on 1977 lol
epic vid man
very informative and delightful
thanks
WTF is a vid?
Wow!! Amazing pilots!!
"3 Greens" very nice lol
two planes (Delta 1080 and Qantas 32) was saved by there pilots
Sadly they don’t make human beings like these guys anymore.
Wat game are u using
What flight simulator is this?
I think its the Microsoft flight sim
This one is Prepar3D. Details in the description.
The gold standard for professionalism in this incident. The captain had the ability to think outside the box. Great piloting skills.
The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar was the first jet I ever flew on. Like all tri-jets it was a nasty compromise, built to allow long flights over oceans, cheaper to operate than 4 engines, but difficult to maintain.
yup. time to deploy sponsorblock add-on
.....I always wondered why they never have all the passengers move to the front of the plane in instances like this.
edit: hey they did it.
But did moving passengers save this plane from cruising? 🤔
You are best youtuber ever and can you do more active

A First Class crew.
They should have been resting
Seal Breach LOL
Awesome video where skill and airmanship and CRM overcomes what would kill most pilots in a simulator nevermind real life. Ty for making this
I'm just wondering why they didn't decide sooner after takeoff, to return to San Diego.
It was left out of the video. But San Diego was fogged in as well. Suitable for take-off but not landing.
@@3Greens Ah ok, thanks!
Great piloting, shame on the Karen who wrote that nasty note.
5:49 - 6:01 well thank goodness for that, good job they arnt on minimum wage
😂🤣😅😆👉Es posible anivelar con los pasajeros😂🤣😅😆
why couldnt they use slats?
