flew on this same tail aircraft on 05/25/96 lax to hnl (honolulu) wow they added the 3-4-3 seating config it use to be 2-5-2 back then when they where the real united airlines pre 2009 continental/united amazing review cant expect much service anymore after 9/11 in meal services, covid just made it worst
Amazing review man! Never thought I'd see a UA 777 flying ORD-MCO. Flew this same configuration when it was brand new from HNL-ORD in 2016 onboard N781UA! Just like this video, that flight was super empty and there were only 13 people in my rear economy section. Also "AC".
Thank you again! The 777 is perfect kind of plane for this route in my opinion. It would be better if the new config had IFEs though, especially on an 8 hour flight from Hawaii 😆
2:46 But in March 2022, I've flown another United 777-200 from SFO to HNL, this time is very lucky for me because they have IFEs and I am seated in Premium Plus.
2:46 In 2019, I've flown one of the United 777-200s without the IFEs on the back from SFO to HKG, the trip was 14 hours and 15 minutes long. It was so boring without the screens on the back.
Yes, exactly. But these regionally configured 777s with United still fly internationally on occasion (or at least far away to Guam), and most airlines including United, have removed seat back screens on some aircraft types (ex A320 and some 737s). It would suck forgetting to charge your computer/phone on one of those flights lol.
@@andrewsaviation7792 : there were no seat back TV on UA‘s A320 to begin with, and UA didnt remove the DirecTV on 737, you got it all mix up with American
@rawasianchicago I'm aware of United's A320 and 737 DirecTV situations. My examples were referring to other airlines in general to which it applies (like American as you've mentioned). To be more specific to United I guess, they're planning on keeping the 737 DirecTVs it got from Continental, but they have removed entertainment on some of their 757 fleet. Also, every brand new 737 United receives doesn't come with entertainment (like some of the -900 fleet) but they have considered providing entertainment on their upcoming MAX10 fleet.
@@andrewsaviation7792 the only PTV they had taken out from the 757 fleet are the sCO 753, PMTZ 753 had no DirecTV to begin with. sUA and sCO 752 keep their PTV as those are ps and international
It's always cool when you get these beasts for short haul, I got one before from Atlanta to Los Angeles with Delta. I was not expecting it. Great report!
No kidding, wide bodies are great for short haul! It's too bad Delta is retiring their 777s that they use for the ATL-LAX service. Thanks for the support!
Well I can't speak for United, but a lot of times large aircraft will fly shorter routes with high demand (EWR-MCO). There's people to fill enough seats to still make a profit regardless of the aircrafts full capabilities. Many airlines in Asia do this as well, since demand is high and sometimes its better to send one large aircraft than a few medium sized ones.
Airlines do it to position aircraft for long haul routes. I was on a 747-400 from Chicago to Denver once. The one and only time I’ve ridden in the upper deck.
World Class video Andrew! Best of luck from Hong Kong... I flew Singapore airlines 777-200 3-3-3 confederation and they did not update it yet so it was really old and really cool
Outstanding trip report. I was impressed with the interiors of the cabin, compared to the age of this aircraft. Also, spending $30 for seat selection is such an insane thing for me. It's too expensive. I prefer to choose the seat while doing online check-in because it's free lol 😂
Thanks! The cabin was very new and in good condition for the aircrafts age. Also, If I could reserve my seat that way I would, but United charges you to book your seat in basic economy even during online check in. I didn't want to end up with a middle seat on a potentially crowded 777 lol. :3
For some reason on United, it's a general rule that domestic US flights and flights to/from Hawaii, the Caribbean and Guam don't serve meals in economy. I would assume it's because United wants to keep ticket prices low and compete with other US carriers. However, I heard United has recently started providing complimentary sandwiches to passengers in economy on select Hawaiian routes. thepointsguy.com/news/united-airlines-will-offer-complimentary-food-on-more-hawaii-routes/
Very true. I guess a lot of people tend to like getting the whole can while others don't necessarily want the whole can and only need a little bit. I prefer the whole can myself, and like I said, those subtle service distances are just interesting to notice. :3
It’s unbelievable how petty you are. You don’t like to pour your own drink!!! I’m sure you pour your own drink at home!! Dude come on, your review highlights the pettiest of things.
@Howaedos H , My comment on the drinks and other things were just to point out certain differences between full service carriers in other parts of the world (like Europe and Asia) when compared to the American ones. Like a flight the same length on the same type of plane somewhere else in the world could have been different. Not one of my statements was meant to jab United in a cheap way.
In these times where none of us can fly, I really like how detailed you are! 😀

You’ve got to love a wide body on a domestic service. 👌
And getting a whole row of empty seats! 💯
Of course! Whole rows to ourselves to are the best! :)
This is not an internationally configured 777, this is part of their domestic fleet. Hence no seatback tv.

Once in a while these domestic/regional configured 777 fly international, from Guam to Tokyo Narita.

This aircraft is grounded because it has Pratt & Wittney PW4000 engines and it has issues. Also, Do you know the story of UA328?
Lovely vid! The landing was so smooth for a 777! It's funny how your vids always appear on my homepage haha, well done!
Thanks! 'twas a very butter-y landing, and I enjoy your videos as well! :)

I did not know United flew ORD-MCO on a 777, I always get stuck with a 737/A320 lol
Yeah, I was surprised to hear about them at first too. United was actually sending them from EWR and maybe DEN on that day as well!

Super Video
Thanks! Much appreciate :3
OMG! I wish you wouldn't have sped up the takeoff. Like literally it's the best part. 😩😩😩
Noted. Which part of the takeoff would you want to see? Before rotation on the runway, more of the climb-out from the airport, or both?
Loved how well maintained this aircraft is despite of it's age :)
Yes, American carriers seem to do a great job of keeping old aircraft still flying like Delta and their MD88s and MD90s (before COVID).

Yup. Lucky duckling!

Ooooh. I heard how nice Singapore Airlines' 777s are, that's really cool you got to fly one one!
Great report! Thank you for letting us ride along!!! All the best from the west coast of Florida USA!!!
My pleasure, thank you! To you, my best as well from Chicago! :3

Were FA’s, ticketing staff, and gate employees mean?
Not at all actually! Everyone seemed happy/fine that day. Especially because there weren't many passengers to deal with.
Andrew's Aviation by the way, why United doesn’t serve complimentary meals to economy passengers even on Hawaiian flights?
