My dad lost his dad when he was a child, and he used to work as a shepherd. and had no chance to go the primary school or high school. when he was about 20 years old he entered a huge railway wagons factory as a blacksmith and was able to climb to supervisor position of the department of installation on the electrical and control system of the metro. I bet a few of the currently running wagons in metro CDMX are still some of the one's he helped to build. maybe the one @9:23 cuz he retired the factory in 1985

Nice..Not been in CDMX for couple decades. Thought I was going in late Fall. The advice about taking METRO was consistent. Avoid at peak times when people pack in, giving those that make a living picking pockets prime opportunity. Never have cell out. Same in NYC where I love and user subways daily.
Am told the bus system is really outstanding. Your take on that would be great.
    Muchas gracias.

One tip for new metro users, if you made a mistake and need to go back, step out of the car but don't leave the terminal, just take the stairs to the "bridge" that connects to the opposite platform so you don't pay an extra ticket.

Just remember that not all subway stations have that tunnel below or bridge over the rails to connect one side with the other. There are a few ones where you do need to get out of the station, cross the street, then come in again on the other side.

There's another in one of the lines that goes to the south but can't recall which line - I discovered it one day I slept over, got off right when I discovered, tried to go to the other side and whops! Ended up at the street, had to pay again

Metro in CDMX is the most widely used transport system when for any reason the metro is not working the buses, taxis, Uber cannot cope with the number of people in need of transportation.
You used one of the tranquil lines, the lines with more passengers are L2 - one of the longest lines and L1 y L9 that go from Pantitlan (east) to Observatorio (west), both lines run almost parallel to each other but L1 goes right into downtown
The most hectic station is Pantitlan because it is the common point for 3 metro lines plus another line to the eastern municipalities of Estado de Mexico
Within the metro, you have a platform for each line so you can not take the wrong train like in NYC o Washington DC
Each metro station is unique with its own decoration, so if you have time you can see different types of art, in Pino Suarez, there is a small Aztec temple, in Mixcoac, there is a Museum of Metro, in the L3 to L5 transfer tunnel is called "Tunel de la Ciencia" (Science Tunnel) because there is a series of photographs with science topics and in the middle, there is a star chart
My advice is besides using the metro for transportation within Mexico city because it is cheaper and quicker you can explore the metro early on the weekend or the holidays
You mentioned and you´re correct about being careful because there are a lot of pickpocketing and harassment within the metro but if you are careful you should be ok
Whenever you use the metro, make sure to check in the map where you are heading, the lines to be used and the transfers to take, in general terms the signage is correct

You got the Green line contrasentido: the rush on it is south to UNAM mornings and north away evenings. Generally rush hour is S/W mornings, N/E evenings, but that line is very hot and cold and a great secret handshake when you're going the opposite way. Worst line is the Pink: Insurgentes is the eye of the storm. Still all better once you're on than the swaying, doors-opening-inward, sardine experience of the Insurgentes Metrobus. And don't ride anything on Fridays except for just an hour before noon. Good luck out there! The Metro is awesome! (Mostly!)

It's been about 20 years since I have been in Mexico City, but I have been there 7 times and rode the Metro each time. Be careful during the crowds. I had to tell one guy to get his hand out of my pants so I could get out of the train. Lots of pick pocketing. Be sure to stop at Pino Surez at least once. There is a small pyramid in the subway. It was there when they built the Metro and they kept it there.

I’m surprised you had not made the Metro your primary mode of transportation by now. I’m glad you’ve now realized how efficient and convenient and inexpensive it is. And yes, definitely keep belongings in the deepest pockets you have. Petty crime is common in places like that although I’ve never had a problem myself (unlike Paris where I was pick pocketed right outside the Metro) Also, wear your backpacks in front and if you go through busy transfer stations like insurgentes or Balderas at rush hour, leave your inhibitions behind cuz you’ll be in an inevitable body to body squeeeeze! Btw, I was 10 years old when I started riding the Metro on my own. It was a different time then but your video brought back great memories. Thanks!

Only bad experience I had using the metro in CDMX was early morning where me and my wife had to burrow into a wall of people to get on as we had an appointment to get my wife a visa and couldn't afford to wait around for a less busy train. Currently living in New York, I like the subway here, very diverse people and large cars on the subway. When I lived in London and using the tube daily for work it can get a bit claustrophobic during peak times in the smaller cars. I couldn't pick which one is best tbh, all can be unreliable at times during repairs but convenient all other times!

The worst station for overcrowding is Pantitlan. It's on the east side of the city, and is a connection for lines A, 1,5,&9. During rush hour they sometimes close gates to limit the number of people in the platform. When the train door opens, it's like a feeding frenzy. Unless you have no option, this station is best avoided during rush hour.

For me being 6'6" the metro in CDMX was the most claustrophobic experience ever. Also felt like I couldn't breathe, which might have been the case as I just arrived from the UK the day before and wasn't used to the altitude. I prefer taking Ubers everywhere when I'm in Mexico

I think your problem was due the altitude mainly. Saludos
