Worst Trade Ever? Mr.Krabs Traded 62 Cents for Spongebob’s soul
FAX
Fuzzy you bet
@@htxthewild5553 Bruh I can't believe you pulled this one out🤣🤣
It was actually a brilliant trade because spongebob annoyed the Flying Dutchman to oblivion and he gave him back for free.
Lol
Marlins: Yankees want Stanton
Yankee: Piece of gum?
Marlins: Ohh Yes
Lol
That's the only place Stanton would go, I guess he's trying to turn the mlb into the nba.
@drsamw pepper not this year
That contract...... is bad...
Oh the Marlins... also traded Miguel Cabrera
Meaghan James That was a bad trade triple crown winner and one of the barest hitters in baseball
that's a good thing.
Oh there are a ton of bad trades from the Marlins
Meaghan James yeah we traded Andrew Miller who didn’t do anything with the marlins Cameron May in not great and three others for Miguel Cabrera and former rookie of the year winner dontrelle willis
And the Marlins screwed up in the Andrew Miller dumpoff as he became an elite reliever as a Red Sox pitcher. They lost at both ends of the Miguel Cabrera trade
White sox Traded Fernado tatís Jr for James shields😭
James Shields=mlb player that shouldnt be an mlb player who gave up bartolo colons homer.
Ya these are all bad but listen.
The dbacks traded their NUMBER ONE OVERALL pick dansby swanson and a gold glover Ender Inciarte for...
Shelby Miller
Yeah, that was very bad trade for Dbacks
Don't remind me
dansby swanson has been a bust so far
Dansby hasn't done much and Shelby can turn it around.
Worst of the modern era
What about the Cubs trading Lou Brock to the Cardinals? He was a Hall of Famer with 3,000 hits and almost 1,000 stolen bases and the cubs traded him to their biggest rival.
part 2 (;
I Think Lou Brock Knew He Might Get Traded
He did most of that with StL, and at the outset it seemed like a pretty good deal for the Cubs
I couldn't agree more - this trade was a steal for the Cardinals. Lou Brock helped St. Louis reach the World Series in 1964, 1967 and 1967 while the pitcher he was traded for - Ernie Broglio - did relatively nothing for the Cubs.
Yes, the Brock for Brolio trade, no Cubs fan will ever forget that!! The fact was Lou Brock never played day games until he came to Wrigley, the minor league team played at night, so he couldn't pick the ball up in the sun at Wrigley. The Cubs didn't think he was worth the wait, then shipped him to St Louis for Ernie Brolio, who was shot by the time he went to Chicago. Damn, imagine having Brock & Banks together.....
You can not forget about the Lou Brock trade from the Cubs to the Cardinals in 1964
Dodgers traded Pedro Martinez to the Expos for Delino De Shields. Terrible!!!
The heck
We need a part 2
Which trade was the worst in YOUR opinion?
im sox fan but babe ruth :(
Ruth
Fuzzy I love you
@@averybateman5337 same dude! what if Babe Ruth played his whole career for the Red Sox that would be nice!! But hey 2018 WS Chanps #DoDamage
@@NoahAKAElmo #DoDamage
the O's traded Curt Schilling, Pete Harnish & Steve Finley for Glen 'Barfight' Davis...
Hall of Famer "Lefty" Grove would eventually win 300 games but in 1920 was traded for a $3,500 fence. Dennis Eckersley was traded to the A's for 3 minor leaguers who combined never played a day in the majors. Eckersley went on to create the role of the one inning closer position and is in the hall of fame.
Aaron Hicks for JR Murphy
Beastly don’t remind me plz 😢
Who’s losing the trade?
Don’t forget that Dave Samson said that Barry bonds doesn’t know how to be a hitting coach. But he helped tweak CY’s swing.
hey fuzzy Nelson Cruz and carlos lee were traded from the mets to texas for 4 prospects who never panned out
Javier Arredondo wasn’t the Mets it was the brewers that traded Cruz And Lee I know this bc I’m a brewer fan also one of the players traded from Texas was Francisco Cordero who planned out for the brewers but the other 3 did not
@@itsstative oh thats right my bad i read that wiki article wrong lol
worst mets trade was nolan ryan to the angels for jim fregosi and tom seaver for a bag of peanuts
What we need to see is a video about great trades that worked out pretty amazing for both teams...Like the Padres/Marlins trade of Gary Sheffield-4-Trevor Hoffman! Sheffield was a key piece of the '97 Marlins and Hoffman would go on to a HOF career in San Diego!!
I gotta say if u dont know who Ryne Sandberg is u have 0 buisness even touching a Baseball
Elitest much?
Or calling him Ryan lol
@@johnsippeljr8514 Came here to post this. Ryan lol.
They underpaid for Colon, Colon is worth Mike Trout, Babe Ruth, Chipper Jones, and Bill Gates’ Net worth 😂
Rydawg 26 u earned urself a sub
This is no longer funny
He earned 2 subs
Rydawg 26 Bartolo memes aren’t funny
😂
Trust me up here in Toronto we’re still feeling the pain of the Thor trade... Josh was nice but Syndergaard was the biggest mess up of former GM Alex Anthopoulos time in Toronto. But the worst that ownership could have done was hire the 2/3 of the Three Stooges basically making the Jays a farm team for the Indians.
Cubs trade Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease to the White Sox for (drum roll)
Jose Quintana. A non ace.
Bad on the Cubs. Great for White Sox.
Ryan Ludwick for Corey Kluber. Andrew Cashnew for Anthony Rizzo.
Bagwell was originally a 3rd base prospect.
The Red Sox had Wade Boggs at 3rd, so they figured Bagwell would never see the field. The Astros moved him to 1st base in his 2nd season with the club.
Red Sox also had a young Mo Vaughn at first when they made that trade so moving Bagwell to first wasn't an option for the Red Sox either.
@@stevegallo8483 Couldn't they move Bagwell to the outfield? It would have been smarter than trading him.
What about Twins aquiring Joe Nathan and Francisco Liriano for A.J Peirzynski? Red Sox getting Jason Varitek And Derek Lowe for a bucket of pens. Max Scherzer to Detroit, Jose Bautista to Toronto, Jake Arrieta to the Cubs, Bobby Abreu to Philly? Etc.
Jose bautista was a rule 5 pick. The pirates didnt trade him
Some terrible Dbacks trades are the Mitch Haniger and Jean Segura to the Mariners for KETEL MARTE (Mariners lost hard), as well as Dansby Swanson and Ender Inciarte for Nick Ahmed (who is a great shortstop) and Shelby Miller. The Dbacks gave up on their no.1 pick in the 2015 draft before he even played a game in the MLB for Shelby (trash) Miller
once the reds traded frank robinson for milt pappas
I was just a kid when the Reds traded Frank Robinson to the Orioles before the 1966 season. Couldn’t believe it. GM Bill DeWitt tore my heart out. Frank ended up winning the Triple Crown that first year. I was sooo pissed.
What about the Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi
I just commented the same thing.Number one worst trade of all time.
yes
Without a doubt, that was the most disastrous trade in Met history.
I was looking for someone to bring that one up.
I’m 38 and I feel old that people don’t remember Ryan Sandburg. I started card collecting at 8 and he was a big deal then.
John Smoltz is actually my favorite player. I know him from the Braves and when I did research on him I figured out that he was drafted by the Tigers.
As an Orioles fan, I think you should look at the Glenn Davis trade for a bunch of nobodies called Curt Schilling, Pete Harnisch and Steve Finley. It still hurts.
though the frank robinson and erik bedard trades dont
Rocky Colavito from Cleveland to Detroit broke the hearts of Cleveland fans for a generation.
To bad upper management didn't appreciate The Rock . Colavito didn't no crap from them or from that degenerat sports writer Joe Falls . You'll always be one of my all-time favorite Tiger's player Rocky
I cried when he left
Fuzzy you should do a dance battle with Kevin👌
It's pretty much a meme now for how many times the Marlins traded away really good players
Johnson is also threw a perfect game, is a co mvp of the 2001 ws, and is now in the hof
Goldschmidt trade was bad
To cards
Paul Goldschmidt
To dbacks
Minor league left fielder and catcher
Trash pitcher
A very high number pick
Carson Stamm what 😂 dbacks won the trade so far. luke weaver had a 3.03 era before injury, and carson kelly, a catcher, has been a top 3 NL catcher since may. goldy is hitting .250, and our backup first baseman christian walker is doing much better then goldy. dbacks won the trade.
Back in the day when baseball achievements were appreciated by all, even opposing fans/ stadiums (the fireworks being set off for Randy even though he was on the away team)
John Smoltz graduated from the high school I go to 😀
Cool
Thats my favorite player of all time!
Others - Red Sox: Cecil Cooper, Roger Clemons (5 more CYA's). Pirates: Tim wakefield (went on to win 186 wins for Sox). Cubs: Greg Maddox. Cleavland/Boston: Dennis Eckersly
Let us not forget about the Giants trading Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonzer for AJ Pierzynski.
Hypothetically, Expps could have had Randy Johnson as their 1, Pedro as 2, both in their primes.
Expos traded away or let walk as Free Agents several All Star TEAMS ! Brandon Phillips, Tim Raines, Andre Dawson, Tim Wallach, Larry Walker, Gary Carter, Vlad Guerrero, Ken Singleton, Warren Cromartie, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Bartolo Colon, Dennis Martinez...I could go on...
@@keithsowder275 Atleast their scouting department worked...
Financially it was impossible to hold their players. The exchange rate at 65 to the USD, low attendance made them uncompetitive. They were a hybrid farm team with opportunities for Latin players to make the majors
Going all the way back to 1966. Cincinnati trades "an old" Frank Robinson to the Orioles for Milt Pappas and two other players. Frank takes the Orioles to their first world championship and wins the Triple crown in the process. Not bad for an old man.
If Randy Johnson stayed with the Expos he would have been out of baseball by 1995. It was with Seattle that he talked to Nolan Ryan that gave him advice on how to be an effective pitcher
What did Nolan tell him?
In the trading for future hall of fame category, it is worth mentioning that, in 1987, the Tigers traded a young pitcher named John Smoltz to the Braves for veteran Doyle Alexander. Alexander did well for Detroit. He went 9-0 down the stretch helping the Tigers win the division, but would then lose to the Twins in the playoffs. You know what John Smoltz did.
How about the Mets making two awful trades: giving up Nolan Ryan (and more) for Jim Fregosi, and trading Amos Otis for Joe Foy.
The worst and second worst trades in Met history. The Mets gave up on Ryan while Otis refused to play third base.
Brewers: we will give you 4 peanuts from our best bag if you give us Yelich
Marlins: Y E S
The phrase "Brock for Broglio" is sometimes used in the sport of baseball to signify a trade that in hindsight, turns out to be an extremely lopsided transaction.
The names in the phrase refer to Lou Brock and Ernie Broglio respectively, the centerpieces of a June 15, 1964, six-player deal: Brock, Jack Spring and Paul Toth were traded from the Chicago Cubs to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Broglio, Bobby Shantz, and Doug Clemens.
I’m wearing a yelich jersey watching this. So happy we got him 😃😃
My man! Looking at the one in my closet right now! I remember reading the notification that they got him and being ecstatic.. couldnt imagine hed be MVP tho
Yelich is my favorite player and I’m from Detroit
What a terrible trade. Wish my dodgers had him
Lol
@@deshaundozier you don't deserve any more star power. You have enough talent and can run laps around everyone else when offering contracts.
This video could easily be solely about the Florida/Miami Marlins. Let’s see: josh Beckett, Miguel Cabrera, Stanton, lee, Lowell, yelich, dee Gordon, relmuto, Castillo, Alex Gonzalez, ozuna, Gary Sheffield... I’m sure I’m missing a ton more
Kansas City Athletics (A’s) Traded Roger Maris to the Yankees lol
Padres trading Anthony Rizzo to Cubs (Thank you Padres!!)
Yelich wanted to be traded. And up until that point, Yelich was simply an above average player. There was no way to foresee that he'd become the Thanos of baseball lol!
There is one trade that benefited my favorite team but it hurt the Yankees. And that was when they sent Jay Buhner to the Mariners.
Hmm, didn’t know the M’s benefitted from anything ever. Hey, a ring’s gotta ne coming soon for you guys (right?)
We will eventually get a ring.
@@stevenarrasmith2557 not until we hire decent management
Yeah another doozy was Pirates trading Barry Bonds after the '92 'almost' season. He went onto greatness with the Giants, but I know that he wanted to go back there, which was his home. He won several titles and a few WS. We still love him in Pittsburgh. And side note, he did not take roids, he was constantly tested, never failed one of them! And to this day stands resolved that he never took them!
Some of these are pretty stupid. The Yelich trade can't be said to be bad yet because the Marlins have to fill out a squad and aren't trying to pay Yelich. So it's smart for them to get prospects for the future since they're rebuilding. And the Bagwell trade, come on. He was a prospect. You can't predict things like that.
don't forget the Expos traded Brian Holman along with Randy Johnson. He pitched two 9 2/3 Perfect Games, then blew his arm out. That's not nothing.
One trade which could be on the next video is when the Blue Jays received Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter from San Diego in exchange for Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez. Alomar and Carter were huge hits in Toronto and helped the Blue Jays win the World Series in 1992 and 1993. Fred McGriff was a good player but he only stayed with the Padres from 1991-1994 while Tony Fernandez didn't play very long for San Diego, either. This was definitely a bad trade for the Padres!
Pappas for Robinson. Zachary, Henderson and Flynn for Seaver.
LOL, I'm a Reds fan and I had forgotten how we fleece the Mets on that one ! And let's be clear that was STEVE Henderson...not RICKY !
Reds traded away Christy Matthewson, arguably the greatest pitcher ever for Amos Rusie who was terrible with the Reds. Matthewson became a Hall of Famer. Good for the Ginats.
Fuzzy has joined the Seatgeek sponsored clan
Don’t remind me about the Jays trading Thor for a nearly 40 year old Dickey only cause he won a Cy Young and on top of that got Josh Thole in the deal. One of the worst Catchers in my opinion 🤦♂️
If you're saying that the Expos trading 3 players for BARTOLO COLON is a bad trade you're wrong my friend. Wrong.
The Lou Brock trade was definitely one of the most influential ever. It's the reason why teams rarely ever trade to division rivals.
Jamie Moyer for Darren Bragg
Heathcliff Slocumb for Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek
Two of the biggest one-sided trades -- Orioles getting Frank Robinson from the Reds for Milt Pappas.
Phillies getting Steve Carlton from the Cardinals for Rick Wise.
Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio. Broglio was a Cardinal starting pitcher. Lou Brock was a rookie outfielder with the Cubs. A couple months after the trade, Broglio hurt his pitching arm and that was the effective end of his career. Brock went on to become a 3000-hit daily player, plus one of the greatest base-stealers in history, all enroute to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Shortly after WW2, Cardinals General Manager Branch Rickey traded himself to the Brooklyn Dodgers for a couple of miscellaneous players. One of his first moves for Brooklyn was to sign Jackie Robinson, major league baseball's first African American. Then Catcher Roy Campanella and an overwhelming pitcher whose name escapes me at this moment.
Norm Cash even up with the Cleveland Indians for Steve Whitaker. Both hit lots of home runs and were first basemen, but Whitaker hit all of his in the minors. Cash played until he was 40 and hit almost 400 homers for the Tigers.
Check out the Baltimore Orioles 1965 trade of pitcher, Milt Pappas for Frank Robinson. Frank was 1966 AL Triple Crown Winner, and led the Orioles to a 4-game sweep of the LA Dodgers in the '66 World Series. He was the only player ever to be voted MVP in both the NL (Cincinnati-1961) and the AL (Baltimore-1966). He ws also a major league manager, and, of course, is in the HOF.
Lou Brock was a lopsided trade as well as Ozzie and Wainwright. Just listing some big HOF trades
Amos Otis for Joe Foy. It seemed everyone but the Mets knew Foy had a drug problem. Otis meanwhile became a superstar with the Royals.
Jays traded Roy Halladay for Kyle Drabek... not good
He was already done in Toronto they never made the playoffs with him
Tigers team had one of each other worst trades when they got Juan Gonzalez from Texas, but they got a chance to redeem their fortunes when they got Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins.
The Babe Ruth trade, you left out the fact that Boston Owner Harry Frazee wanted funding to produce a Broadway show part of that trade was a $450,000 loan, along with the $100,000 cash for Ruth. Although myself and I'm sure Red Sox and Baseball fans will never think it's a "good" deal. Frazee ended up producing a Broadway hit "No, No, Nanette" with the money. So for Frazee and the Yankees...it was a GREAT deal !
James Shields for Fernando Tatis Jr could end up in a list like this some day
You are making me do it. Babe Ruth was traded by Harry Frazee for the money to make "NO NO NANETTE". Today, most will think what? In 1919-20, it was a very successful Broadway play and baseball was coming off the Black Sox scandal. Yeah, at first, Frazee and a lot of others thought that Rupert Murdoch had been fleeced. It was the charisma of Ruth in those later years that turned this into one of the worst sports trades in history. It was not at first.
I agree as an a’s fan but the a’s had Matt Chapman as a good prospect and finished 7th in the MVP voting in 2018
A few trades made by the Cubs in recent years come to mind. They traded Jeff Samradzija to Oakland for Addison Russell (among others). Russell helped the Cubs win the World Series in 2016. Samardzija seems to have plateaued. Speaking of the 2016 World Series, the Cubs got (rented) Aroldis Chapman for (among others) Eloy Jimenez. Jimenez is going to make his debut with the White Sox next season, and is still a highly-tauted prospect. While the Cubs would have arguably had a different postseason run without Chapman, he was only in Chicago for less than a full season, but Jimenez would have been great to have long-term.
You might want to check out how The Mets gave away "The Franchise" (#41), to the Reds for Pat Zachary and...Who were the other guys who barely saw the grass at Shea Stadium?
Tom Terrific through a no hitter for Cincinnati. Didn't he? Oh yeah, Doug Flynn won a gold glove at second for New York.
Yankees acquire Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater from Red Sox ( Lyle wins Cy Young award and helps Yanks win 1976 AL Pennant then 1977 World Series)
And them McGwire decided to stay with the Cardinals. Goldschmidt would do likewise years later. Something to be said about a franchise with possibly the best fanbase in sports --Cards-Cubs rivalry games feature friendly Midwestern folks (whereas at a Dodgers-Giants game you take chances with your life).
The Seattle Mariners.... the team's entire history of existence. They have been responsible for some of the worst trades in history. Trading David Ortiz for Dave Hollins, Adam Jones for Erik Bedard, Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek for Heathcliff Slocumb, Cliff Lee for Justin Smoke. The list goes on but I'll stop there.
Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb...gotta include that one in part two.
Spencer Breunig On the flip side Jaime Moyer for Darren Bragg worked out.
The Donaldson trade also included Franklin Baretto which was a very high prospect at the time. And getting rid of Donaldson freed up 3rd base for Matt Chapman!
Lol Lewis Brinson. The Marlins had no idea how bad the Brewers were overhyping him. Everyone was so excited about him even though he had bum written all over him.
Anyone remember when Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich traded wives and basically families?
That didn’t work out well for Kekich
2 football games at baseball stadiums today. A bold day for baseball.
At the 1:05 mark, didn't hear about Realmuto/bellinger, but I think it would be a good trade for LA. Need a catcher, they'd get leagues best. They have Turner and third, and muncy/freese can play third and first
Fuzzy, I love you man and your videos. I am a huge A’s fan and that Donaldson trade hurt. Funny story, I got his A’s jersey and exactly 4 hours later, he’s on a different team. When my dad told me the news, I was crying for the rest of the day
John Garland- S-RHP (Cubs) for Matt Karchner- R-LHP (White Sox)
Garland was an inning eater while in Chicago and was part of that incredible pitching staff that helped win the 2005 series over the Astros.
As a Dodger fan the Pedro Martinez trade for Delino DeShields will always stick out like a sore thumb. That was even worse than the 2004 trade with He Soap Choi.
I’m at Disneyland and kris Bryant was just in the same line as me!
Fullerton Railfan Productions LUCKY
You better ask for a autograph or a picture or something to remember that moment !! Even though I am a Red Sox fan Kris Bryant is a heck of a player!! That must've been cool! 😎
I asked for a picture but he didn’t want to because many more kids like me would run over
Cubs trade Lou Brock to the Cardinals for Ernie Broglio. Reds trade Frank Robinson to Orioles for Milt Pappas. Giants trade Orlando Cepeda for Ray Sadecki. Mets trade Nolan Ryan to Angels for Jim Fregosi, Cards trade Steve Carlton to Phillies for Rick Wise.
Worst ever, On Dec. 15, 1900, New York Giants trade washed-up ace, Amos Rusie to the Cincinnati Reds for their winless rookie, Christie Mathewson. You can look it up.
The Mainers could fill an episode of this. Trading away Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey Jr., Carlos Guillen, Freddy Garcia, and Alex Rodriguez. Oh and that was all within 3 years.
As a wise man once said, sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make:)
John Yay like the Mets almost trading Wilmer Flores for Carlos Gomez and instead got Yoenis Cespedes in free agency who Ik gets injured a lot, but he can play
And the Mariners followed by treating him horribly, and letting him go. We love you, Randy! 💖💕💞 Oh, my heart still hurts! 😂😂
Here is the thing just because trades don't work out and look bad later doesn't mean they were bad trades. There is no telling what those 4 kids that Miami got for Yellich will turn into. They could become their Core 4 and lead them to 6 World Series titles. People the last couple of years have been killing my Mets because they traded Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi in 1971. They didn't trade NOLAN RYAN in 1971,they traded a kid barely in The Majors a year that was wild as a March Hare for Jim Fregosi. He was basically Rick Wild Thing Vaugn before The Glasses. At the time they needed a 3rd basemen. He didn't really become NOLAN RYAN until after The Angels traded him to Houston and their pitching coach had a approach that stuck.
You gotta be kidding. Nolan Ryan didn't become Nolan Ryan until Houston? How about 383 Ks in 1973 and four no-nos in three years. Not bad by anyone's standards.
Schilling in 1991 (Orioles, to Astros) they dumped him right away, then became a star in Philly and a superstar with the D-Backs.
Sammy Sosa from the ChiSox to the Cubs in 1992 for George "Taco" Bell.
How about Joe Morgan to the Reds from the 'Stros, helped Cincinnati out immensely.
Mets Amos Otis for KC's Joe Foy. Otis would have a really good career.
Here's one not many know about, the Yankees had Fred McGriff in their minor league system in 1982, they got rid of him, Dave Collins and Mike Morgan in exchange for greats Tom Dodd and Dale Murray :)
Reggie Jackson to the O's for Don Baylor and Mike Torrez, 1976. RJ only gave them one season.
Oooooh how about Garry Templeton for Ozzie Smith? Garry would be a solid hitter but we all know what the Great Oz did......
The Giants' George Foster to the Reds for Frank Duffy & Vern Geishert, another one of those "they didn't know at the time" trades.
Ryne Sandberg was not the only gift from the people of Philadelphia to the people of Chicago. Prior to the 1950 season, the Philadelphia Athletics traded Nellie Fox to the White Sox for a catcher named Joe Tipton. In 1966 the Philadelphia Phillies traded Fergueson Jenkins and Adolfo Phillips for aging pitchers Bob Buhl and Larry Jacksons. The following season, the otherwise forgettable Phillips became one of more than 300 distinct players to have hit three dingers in a game. Jenkins is in the Hall of Fame as a pitcher.
Quit whining. I would say, Nellie Fox, Fergueson Jenkins and Ryne Sandberg for Lou Brock is a pretty good deal.
Sidelight: If Fox had remained in Philadelphia, the Yankees would have gotten him soon enough and Bobby Richardson might have been the 1959 MVP with the White Sox. It's only a game.
My batting coaches friends were in the Christian Yelich trade, he played for the Brewers minor league team before he got hurt.
The Red Sox owner traded Ruth for money he needed to produce a Broadway show. I am not sure that trade could be pulled off today; that is, the money not going to the team.
On the Phillies trading Bowa and Sandberg to the Cubs for DeJesus, I could never figure out what the Phillies must have been thinking. There is a false notion that Sandberg was a "throw in." People, there is no such thing as a "throw in." No major league franchise is going to trade for a player they know nothing about. The Cubs had thoroughly scouted Sandberg and saw him as their shortstop of the future. But they didn't think Sandberg was quite ready yet, so they also asked for Bowa. Well, it seems that in spring training Sandberg impressed, so he made the opening day roster. Only with Bowa at short, Sandberg had to move to 3rd. He was moved again to 2nd base the following year, and the rest is history.
Ivan DeJesus was involved in another lopsided trade. He and Bill Buckner were traded by the Dodgers to the Cubs in exchange for Rick Monday, pitcher Mike Garland, and a minor league pitcher who never went anywhere. Monday was productive -- when he was healthy, which during his Dodger days was not too often. Garland was a passible pitcher for the Cubs, and did not get any better with the Dodgers. But DeJesus and Buckner were everyday ballplayers for the Cubs over several seasons.
