I've made this blanket several times. I use about 3 spools of the smaller Barnet Baby Blanket yarn. I just discovered they come in a bigger size that makes one blanket!! You can knit about 40 - 42 rows total (includes the 5 rows on either end).

2.5 years ago I watched this video and made my son a blanket for when he was born! I'm due with my daughter in a couple weeks and I started on her blanket tonight. I watched tons of other videos but went back to this one since it is so simple and easy to follow. I'm using different yarn this time around and I already used one skein, and its only 19x7!! Off to the store tomorrow to buy more yarn to finish this beauty!
The other day I finished my first blanket. This is a great pattern. I used the Bernat Baby Blanket yarn. Multi colored....light pink, dark pink, and orange sherbet color. Oh it's called Peachy. Mine is three strands of light blue, light pink and light green baby wools 😊 I got them from the Warehouse (department store in NZ). Brand is called Rosies I think
My mistake was pausing it after you said knit 4 more rows without watching the next few seconds where you said to keep doing the easy garter stitch lol had to redo it but it looks amazing now !

This was probably easier for me because I'm about a immediate/ experienced knitter and know most of the stitches.
This is a great stitch pattern for making garments too. Currently working on rectangles for a vest. Thank you for your hard work. After working with this stitch for while, I am delighted with the luxurious effect. The work seems softer and cozier. There is body and warmth resulting from the extra purl stitch, very luxe.
@@Giulina2392103 After the fist few rows of combined stitches, it goes to autopilot ( pretty much!). Just be sure you mark the 5 peg on both sides. 👍🏻. Make it as long as suits you. I recommend a good movie and regular back stretching! 😉 Have fun!🙂

Made one blanket like this for my youngest on a round loom, now im curious if i can essentially use this same stitch but on an infinity loom? So that i can make it bigger in width.
I used Bernat Baby Blanket and followed the instructions exactly. It all turned out great EXCEPT when I casted off, that end ended up being a bit shorter than the other end. I believe you used a basic bind off and reading on, I found out that this bind off can do this and what I should have probably done was the MODIFIED Basic bind off. It adds a couple more stitches throughout, and should solve the problem. I am just curious how you ended up not having the problem of a shorter end because your's looked great. I love the pattern and will keep using it, so thank you anyway, for showing it to all of us as it really is a nice, fast pattern.
Just finished playing around with my large green loom (40 pegs.) The final product ended up being about 21 inches wide after blocking for anyone who is curious.
@@FightingIrishR1 blocking is when you lay out your finished item on a surface where you can pin the side straight and evenly. You then either spray it with a spray bottle and let it dry, or my personal favorite is a fabric steamer. It heats up the acrylic and relaxes it so it holds its shape instead of being floppy and uneven.
@@FightingIrishR1 lots of good tutorials on RUclips on how to block. A few years back, I was able to get camping flooring (similar to the foam ABC mats a lot of kids have in their playrooms) at Kmart so they fit together like puzzle pieces and I can pin the project. You need stainless steel pins so they don't rust.

Ann, did you accomplish the purl stitch? Just curious, sometimes I lose my loop and it's so difficult for me to find out how to put it back right! So, don't feel bad just keep pluggin' away!
Hi Ann, I'd like to encourage you to keep working on the purl stitch. Try looking at loomahat.com for detailed instructions. I'm in my 70s, have MS and Parkinsons=like syndrome, so I understand. +ashley martin yes, you can make panels and stitch them together. I would perhaps make square shaped panels and stitch all four to make a bigger square. Hope that helps!
Awesome! I was hoping it would work out, and it looks like it might. I was worried about the border of the blanket giving me trouble when I do stitch my panels together, but if I make panel 2 without the border on one side, I think that would be the good side for stitching them together. The beginning was confusing when you said knit those for rows. You didn't specify regular or garter stitch. Newbies like me get confused esp when learning. Otherwise easy pattern and thanks

Thank you so much. I'm going to start this today on an infinity loom to make it wider. The gauge is 7/16", but I have tried weight 6 yarn on it, and it's fine. That Quick Garter is pure genius!
Six inches into project, and I'm learning a bit. (I'm a beginner). The 7/16 gauge afghan loom works--but it isn't the best because the super bulky yarn is a bit hard to work with on the inner circle turns. The Quick Garter is fantastic; but the loom holds it up a bit. On that loom, stitches in the blanket aren't clearly defined, however, with a variegated baby blanket yarn, it is still very pretty. I so like your border and the KP row edgings I would prefer better definition. So, I'm saving up for a 5/8 afghan loom to do a better job when I make an adult afghan. Again, thank you for this great pattern. Whatever I do next, I want to use your edging. It's great!

Great tutorial! I donate baby blankets to the Navy Relief Society who require blankets to be 30 in x 30 inches. On a 41 peg loom, how many pegs would that be? I measured the loom using all pegs and it came to 33 inches, bigger than I need it to be. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
I am using a 41 peg loom and completed one ball of yarn so far. The bottom is smaller than 23 inches (I am measuring about 20 inches). Will I need to stretch the blanket out to make the width bigger after completion? Or will the blanket measure out to 23 inches upon completion?
Do you garter stick the first 4 rows or just row one? I got confused after the first row you said knit 4 more rows then you showed the garter stitch again.

In the case, The width of the blanket will depend on the loom that you’re using. Therefore, a round loom with 41 pegs will not produce a blanket wide enough for an adult. You can use the same pattern using an Afghan loom. I hope that helps!

Why do we need to mark the first 5 pegs on each side? Does it make it wider or thicker?

@@FightingIrishR1 lots of good tutorials on RUclips on how to block. A few years back, I was able to get camping flooring (similar to the foam ABC mats a lot of kids have in their playrooms) at Kmart so they fit together like puzzle pieces and I can pin the project. You need stainless steel pins so they don't rust.

Ann, did you accomplish the purl stitch? Just curious, sometimes I lose my loop and it's so difficult for me to find out how to put it back right! So, don't feel bad just keep pluggin' away!
Hi Ann, I'd like to encourage you to keep working on the purl stitch. Try looking at loomahat.com for detailed instructions. I'm in my 70s, have MS and Parkinsons=like syndrome, so I understand. I use baby Barnet blanket yarn and it comes out lovely! I've never seen the color that the creator of the video uses
To make the blanket bigger, could I make four panels like this and then stitch them together? Or is there another way to make a bigger blanket? Thanks for the help, and great video!!
+ashley martin yes, you can make panels and stitch them together. I would perhaps make square shaped panels and stitch all four to make a bigger square. Hope that helps!
Awesome! I was hoping it would work out, and it looks like it might. I was worried about the border of the blanket giving me trouble when I do stitch my panels together, but if I make panel 2 without the border on one side, I think that would be the good side for stitching them together. @ArtyCraftyCa I use the Martha Stewart loom and I want to make at baby blanket at least 40x40. All the other videos I've seen the blankets are usually 20x20. How big does your blanket come out? Thank you :)

The beginning was confusing when you said knit those for rows. You didn't specify regular or garter stitch. Newbies like me get confused esp when learning. Otherwise easy pattern and thanks

+Mary Hokanson thank you for watching. The yarn I used is a non-branded blanket yarn that I got from the dollar store. You may find different kinds of blanket yarn, for instance Bernat has them in different colours as well. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much. I'm going to start this today on an infinity loom to make it wider. The gauge is 7/16", but I have tried weight 6 yarn on it, and it's fine. That Quick Garter is pure genius!

Six inches into project, and I'm learning a bit. (I'm a beginner). The 7/16 gauge afghan loom works--but it isn't the best because the super bulky yarn is a bit hard to work with on the inner circle turns. The Quick Garter is fantastic; but the loom holds it up a bit. On that loom, stitches in the blanket aren't clearly defined, however, with a variegated baby blanket yarn, it is still very pretty. I so like your border and the KP row edgings I would prefer better definition. So, I'm saving up for a 5/8 afghan loom to do a better job when I make an adult afghan. Again, thank you for this great pattern. Whatever I do next, I want to use your edging. It's great!
Why do we need to mark the first 5 pegs on each side of the loom?

Great tutorial! I donate baby blankets to the Navy Relief Society who require blankets to be 30 in x 30 inches. On a 41 peg loom, how many pegs would that be? I measured the loom using all pegs and it came to 33 inches, bigger than I need it to be. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Up to your preference but essentially the count of the border is to ensure the sides won’t curl… hope that helps!

I am using a 41 peg loom and completed one ball of yarn so far. The bottom is smaller than 23 inches (I am measuring about 20 inches). Will I need to stretch the blanket out to make the width bigger after completion? Or will the blanket measure out to 23 inches upon completion?
Do you garter stick the first 4 rows or just row one? I got confused after the first row you said knit 4 more rows then you showed the garter stitch again.

In the case, The width of the blanket will depend on the loom that you’re using. Therefore, a round loom with 41 pegs will not produce a blanket wide enough for an adult. You can use the same pattern using an Afghan loom. I hope that helps!
