BREAKING! To turn on the heated steering wheel you have to ask it “hey Mercedes, turn on my heated steering wheel.” Also, when you turn on the heated seat, it turns on the steering wheel as well. Mystery solved. Just give us a button next time? 🥴

I just hit 1k miles on my 2023 GLC. Love the new drivetrain. The car is very well behaved but is capable of being very playful on curvy roads if you demand it. Plenty of power for passing and dusting most cars on. Not a Supra but for a family car it gets the job done and has just enough performance to have a little fun if you want to. The build quality is very good, absolutely no rattles or squeaks unlike an Escalade.

Mercedes is now ranked dead last among all manufacturers for reliability by Consumer Reports, and the GLE specifically is ranked as the single worst car currently on the market in terms of reliability. I know this is a GLC, but Mercedes as a whole is complete junk these days. Meanwhile, BMW has moved up to #3 overall right behind Lexus and Toyota.

    I have 2023
Mercedes made me sign a piece of paper not to take the car out of the US.
I used to have a 2016. An F150 rear ended me at 55 - 60 MPH. I walked away with bruises. Both vehicles were totaled. I decided to get another one. A few things that I like and wished I had.
1 the way the car starts. It doesn’t have a typical starter that cranks. I believe the electric motor starts the engine. The end result is is a very quiet starting motor.
When accelerating the electric motor kicks in and thumps out mad torque. The car zips really fast when acceleration.
2 the vents. If you select blue for instance as you ambient color then turn on the heat, the vents color change from blue to red. It psychologically pleasing: warmth.
I had headlights that illuminated the direction you were turning at slow speed in my 16. I don’t have it. It’s a really useful feature to me since I live in the country.
3 most buttons are sliding in other word you touch a pad with your finger and slide to change something. You can easily make unintentional change that way.
The volume control doesn’t bother me at all.
I like my 23. The price is steep but the car is superior. It saves my life and I trust it .

    • @SerPurple51
      @SerPurple51 9 месяцев назад +2

50k for entry fee sounds great until you look at cost of ownership. And when things start to fail and the electronics degrade, add another 10-15k bill for any fix, plus thousands in labor and then the car eventually depreciates to nothing in the end as the tech becomes outdated and full of electrical and mechanical issues.

I'm not sure what happened to Mercedes in the past few years. They used to be leaders in intuitive technology and luxury. Now the brand seems to be catering to "trendy" people and "clout chasers" who just want a car with gimmicks and over complicated technology. I can't see this car holding its value at all, the tech is way too flawed and I'm sure the price to fix - I mean replace - will be astronomical. Eventually the tech becomes outdated and fails to work, leaving nothing but a boring 4 cylinder jelly bean car that's nothing special. I miss late 2000's Mercedes. When they actually made attractive looking cars that weren't way above and beyond for no legitimate reason.

Great review, although let's be real. The prior gen of this car was MUCH better - the interior was much nicer with more buttons and switches making everything easier to access. The open pore wood in the prior gen made the interior really classy. This looks boring, plain and down market by comparison. It's a 'clean' design, but a downgrade from what existed before. More screens make it look cheap. Until electrification arrives, these turbo 4's need tuned exhaust notes. These still sound too close to farm equipment. Exterior lost some of its shark like charm. This looks more dowdy. We leased a prior gen GLC300 and it's easy to see what they messed up with this update.

Hopefully they fixed the suspension setup and tire characteristics. The handling on my '22 GLC300 felt downright scary and unsettled when going over bridge seams or high bumps at highway speeds. I attributed it mostly to the runflats and AMG-Line staggered wheel setup, but I sure don't miss that. Also the violent stop/start function and noisy (outside car) engine. Sounded like a diesel. Two characteristics I found to be very off-brand for what people perceive as Mercedes-Benz.
Other issues happened in the first 500 miles - when entering stepdown by flooring the throttle, the car freaked out, engine lights came on and it entered limp mode on an interstate going 75 MPH. Stopping the vehicle then restarting seemed to fix it until it did it again next time I went to pass someone. It was OK as long as you stayed out of stepdown mode on throttle. Dealership said "MBs are sensitive and it might've got some 'bad gas' somewhere. There was no other issues showing up on diagnostics. Never had that problem again in 25,000 miles.
Also the amount of creaks and rattles that started before 25k miles was very disappointing as well...in a MB, I'd expect ZERO, for $55k. I've had Mazdas and Hondas with better build quality, frankly.
Honestly felt relieved to trade that car off.

This drivetrain (2.0 M254 Mild-Hybrid) shines on the highway & higher RPM, punchy, responsive, smooth and good MPG. In eco-mode, it will completely shut-off itself and doing "coasting" when you release the gas, very refined.
At low speed stop-and-go traffic, the engine lacks of electric-assisted power, sounds like Mower and it needs to rev higher to move...

Unfortunately, this seems to be more of the new era of MB, the interior looks cheap, the lack of physical buttons in a ‘luxury’ vehicle will never be acceptable, the steering wheel design is garbage, the four spokes with haptic plastic touch buttons screams cost cutting, as does the piano black elements. The column shifters being see through to save money on material costs is cheap and unacceptable. All windows should be auto up-down standard. The headrest is cheap plastic, it should be aluminum. More cost cutting. The vent design looks like brutalist architecture found all over former Soviet countries, it doesn’t flow with the rest of the design which is rather minimalist and designed to not draw your attention, they stand out too much. The electric systems in this car will stop working after 5 years as that is there current M.O. and the cost to fix them will be astronomical, perhaps more than $10,000. Another feature, which is, completely unacceptable for the brand that was MB. They used to be so well loved because they were absolute tanks and could run for hundreds of thousands of miles and deliver absolute luxury making them worth the price. At this price point, the Audi Q5 definitely has a better design, the X3 with the I-6 engine beats this in reliability, and for every one of these they sell Toyota will sell 15 Rav4s or Corolla Crosses for half the price, and with inflation being 7%+, people really start to care about out the door price, dealership experience, and fuel economy, and this unfortunately has none of those. What has truly happened to MB one must ask?

This vehicle rides like a 40K vehicle at best. Interior quality I can tell is gonna start creaking at like 20K miles and to top it off it has a 4cyl for 60K☠️ People actually have no idea how much better the GV70 than this, for 60K you’re actually getting a 60K car.

This is 2023. Yes, luxury cars use 4 cylinder engines now because they can get the same power as a 6 or 8 as well as get better fuel economy. 6 and 8s are going away and then the ICE engine, at least without an electric engine added to it in the form of a hybrid, is also going away. Also, 60K is a standard price for a luxury car. Mainstream cars now cost 40K plus and sometimes cost over 50K.

Every 7 years, Mercedes introduces new technologies to their line ups. 2023 is one of those years. So for this person to claim that the 2024 model is a vast improvement from a 2023 is a crock of / pile of / hose manure.
