Great review. As usual, you’ve gone beyond the vehicle itself, and into how it fits into the big picture.
The more I look at this GLC (and at the C-class too) the more I fail to understand how Mercedes could produce the horrendous EQs. In fact, with this GLC Mercedes has shown the world that it knows how to make beautiful cars.
Well I disagree - those EQs are innovative, different and are improving with every new model they are bringing out - line the EQS / EQE SUV are great cars. But well it might also be a matter of taste. If you don't like them, fair enough.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 The problem is that there are many of us, indeed many, who do not like EQs. I am Italian and I travel a lot in Europe. I can assure you that here in Europe EQs are not welcome. And not because they are not technologically appreciated but because they are considered ugly. Sorry, you're in the minority.

Agree. I wondered if MB could just build a “regular looking” classic, MB that happened to be electric. I would sacrifice a bit of range in sake of “normalcy”

Congratulations on your GLC. I’ve had my 2020 for 3 years now. It is a great and comfortable vehicle.
Thinking of getting a GLC but how reliable are the electronics on this car? Are they pretty much reliable? No issues?
@@geothermal7999 I’ve had zero issues. Now at 40k miles. No glitches, or screen issues or electronic issues. If you think about it, most cars now have at least the center in an electronic format just different shapes and sizes. For yearly maintenance, it is in the Houston area around $500 including wipers at the dealer for schedule A (10,000 miles) intervals. $600 including wipers for schedule B (20,000 miles) intervals. Each area might be different. In a smaller town in Michigan, it was 1/2 the price. My Pirelli tires only lasted around 25,000. I replaced them with Michelins. Around $1,000. Hope this helps.

Love what they did with the update. but those racing style seat colors don’t fit. The red is too bright. I’m not sure I would pay that fully specd out price but I think it should be well equipped in the mid to upper $50s

Thank you for the review. Thursday/Friday I pick up my new GLC with the AMG package. Your price of 66K US equates to around 90K CDN. I went from a GLA to the GLC, what a difference.
Your review is on point. I am an empty nester, I've driven MB since 1998. I did test drive the EQB I wasn't ready for the EV yet ... Nice.... but the GLC was just what I wanted optioned up to $56k. It checks all the boxes.

Wow Cherylt...we just bought a 2023 dealer loaner for $40,500 with 6800 miles. CPO car. Agree with you about the EQB, I am ok with the mild hybrid but no way all electric. Enjoy your ride....we certainly are.

Great review. You see GLCs everywhere here in Germany. It's certainly more pleasing to the eye than anything EQx. But I still would prefer a less rounded design, which Mercedes suffers of in my opinion. As some here might know, I worked as the head of prepress and video IT for MBs worldwide advertising agency S&J from 1999 to 2007, mostly Apple (hello George :-) ). Every new MB was on my servers before even the press could have a look. One glance at a new car: a Merc! Without the star on the front, it would not be that easy now. You could sometimes think of many brands. It's fathers day in Germany tomorrow, so let's get drunk if you celebrate it too 🙂

Disagree mac....love the softer lines of the GLC, makes it understated with the terrific interior. Everyone else is doing sharp angles here in the States. Glad they are popular in Germany as we are going to revisit your beautiful country again this summer. We were there last year helping your economy.😁

I recently bought a 2024 blue GLC 300 4Matic with the AMG line options. Beautiful car and comfortable. Really like it!

@@jcheck6 yes I am. It’s the starling blue with the neva grey (mostly looks white too me) interior. My wife was driving earlier and that car looked so good when she was pulling up to get me.

I am hearing alot about electrical gremlins with the GLC. Here's hoping you and I never experience any. Btw, we got a steal with ours, MB loaner car with 6800 miles. $40,500.

Thanks for asking about him, Ted . . . As for the hanger, it just got too logistically difficult to shoot there. A bit behind the scenes, have to wait until later at night to shoot all the stand ups due to the obvious noise. The switch to what you see now has drastically improved our workflow. We will still use the hanger for interviews and special episodes.

Audi Q5 driver who test drove the 2023 GLC last week. I'm in love with the GLC. But bummed that Merc did not extend the second row leg room in the GLC.
What are the differences?
@@XDMIIIIIIIII Q5 is faster and drives a bit more sporty. GLC has a tiny bit more 2nd row leg room, but smaller trunk. GLC's interior tech is fancier and seats are softer.
I have a 21Q5 and was thinking about switching to GLC but the price is outrageous. In Canada it’s 90K CDN after taxes and it didn’t even have leather interior.
What is this trim?

I have owned several MB's (still have a 2017 E400 convertible) and they are great cars but imo they have gotten a bit crazy with the cost of add ons. I just bought a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd (on sale) for $52K loaded with options and it does not feel like a step down from the 2020 GLE 350 I swapped for it.
OMG how could you give up your GLE? We have a 2012 ML350 (same basic car) and I love it more each time I drive it. Just bought the wife a 2023 GLC. Also have a 2007 C280.

Excellent review (as always). The styling on this iteration looks a bit Porsche-eque to me = a good thing. The amount of flat glass & hi-gloss interior bits = not a good thing.
Nail --> Head ref your comment they need to make things with this car more utility than spaceship.
p.s. Your guy NEEDS to get a 911, for sure.
ETA: Liked hearing about the 18" wheel option. We were looking at Lexus RXs for Mrs' next car. Found out most of the trims you're stuck with 21" wheels.... Immediate "no sale" for us. We use our SUVs in the real world. Ride quality is one thing. Having to fix bent &/or broken wheels & flat tires is another. Bag-that-noise.
In Uk. Spec is marginally different. I am waiting on delivery of a diesel 2.2 AMG Line due anytime soon in 2023. Electrified diesel that promises 55mpg and 7.9 sec 0 to 60 speed. More than ample for anyone. Yes definitely diesel with 48 volt motor. And all those extras thou mention. Not needed. You missed the all important electric drop down tow hitch. So practical and a factory order only. All the remainder of those sensors and roof glass not needed. Drivers can read signs and drive sensibly hopefully 👍

Highly likely . . . We will have an episode coming up next month on the new 2024 GLE 450 PHEV.
Great update on the GLC, but I still prefer the Audi Q5 to this. As for your friend, I would need more information. What kind of Audi? An R8, RS6 Avant, or RS5? Or are we talking an A5, A6, A7 or A8? If the former, then I think your friend has great taste, if the latter, then yes he needs to get a 911 if he has the means to do so.
We looked at the Q5 but dismissed it because of the interior. GLC has one of greatest interiors to date.

Both good . . . However, if one wants to keep the car longer than 5 years - ABSOLUTELY the Lexus and nothing to do with the fact that I own something from that brand.
Hello, the issue I saw with the new 2023 Lexus the departing of Lexus from being different than a Toyota, luxury feeling wise. Reliability for Toyota is excellent. When I sat in the 2023 RX 350, I felt I was in my 2017 Camry that I owned. This is just comparing to the GLC. NX felt better but the 2nd row is too short and narrow compared with the GLC. I’ve had my 2020 GLC with over 38,000 miles. No issues. Very comfortable as a daily driver and long trips.

Great Objective Comments. My wife and I are in the process of buying a new vehicle. Drove the GLC, GV70 and the Nautilus, although the GLC is going to cost more, it’s leading for many of the reasons you mentioned, mainly refinement and responsiveness. Yes the GV70 has more HP but we like the way the power is delivered more in the GLC. Happy to know what we like about the vehicle is in other people’s thoughts as well. Last thing, those roads look freakin fun to drive. Thanks
Forget the Nautilus. Garbage for many reasons. As for the GV 70, a tough call. I would say the Genesis if you want to keep the car longer than 5 years but keep in mind the resale of Genesis is not great. GLC is hard to beat in this segment.
Love this GLC... but I hear when you're warranty is done and you own a Mercedes it'll make you poor :D
I think Merc's interior design is making Genesis interior look dates. Biggest weakness in the Genesis is their infotainment, looks good but from 20 years ago

The tablet like screen puts me off in any car!! , I get away from my tablet screen at home or on my desk to find another one in my car ; not fair!! It pains me.
They do not come standard with a sunroof
2020 GLC uses tactile dials and knobs that enhance the mechanical feeling of driving a Mercedes, one of the German ultimate machines. The new GLC uses electronic sliders which are less satisfying and increase distracted driving because they don’t always work the way one expects, you have to stare at them while using to make sure they work. Dangerous! I love my stereo volume dial in my 2020, I hate the electronic slider triangle in the 2024. Mercedes Benz please bring back my tactile elegant less-dangerous dials and knobs. Thank you.

I purchased a #GLC 400e with the #AMG Premium package on January 26, 2023. After two months, I experienced issues with the transmission controllers. In fact, the gearbox repeatedly failed at high speeds, especially above 160 kilometers per hour, causing significant stress and concern for my own safety and that of my family while driving on the highway. This serious risk of an accident has put me and my family in danger.
After four attempts to diagnose the problem by #Mercedes, starting from June 21, my vehicle has been at the #Mercedes_service center in #Aschaffenburg, #Germany. However, unfortunately, they do not have the necessary parts for the repair, and I am forced to wait until July 31. Undoubtedly, this lengthy delay has left me extremely dissatisfied and angry with Mercedes.
Until today, despite sending multiple emails to Mercedes and filling out their form, they have not made any contact or taken any actions to address my concerns and seek my satisfaction.
You are placing the same "comment" on all podcasts with Mercedes cars. This is the third one I found in one hour.

Modern Mercedes Benz are disposable tech and products that are meant to be leased. Then, it becomes a great financial liability for the middle class to enjoy. The exclusivity prestige no longer exists.
I would like analog gauges in my car instead of a bunch of ipads.

I can see where the GLC might have a more luxurious interior and a little more second row room but I think the Macan is the better drivers car? Don’t get me wrong, I like the GLC but it’s my second pick after the Macan. I will say I’m envious of the 48 volt mild hybrid system.

Nice video, well done! Merc models are not quality anymore sadly.... ive driven Merc most of my life. Airbag cap- cheap plastic, Headrest back-cheap plastic, console Piano Black- really still :)? Crap soundsystems- even Burmeister, Fake sound in cabin, fake exsausts etc.
And, yes, we would be so much better off if we put all our eggs in the hybrid/PHEV basket. EVs are a hassle and stripping the earth of precious resources...
