    Finally getting a chance to sit down and watch this tutorial in depth! I first wanted to say 'thank you' for all of your hard work in to editing this video, creating the physical product itself, and also taking the time to make this a free pattern for us! I know how much work it takes to do this, and your dedication to this art is not unnoticed by me!!! With that being said, I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS -- 1. How much yardage did you use for this project, or how much do you recommend? 2. Do the pattern pieces in your tutorial also inlaced the lining (for example: your pattern says "SIDE FRONT CUT 4X) - Does that include the lining? // Thank you so much again, and I look forward to all that you create in the future! You have a huge supporter over here x

    • @TiaHrubala
      @TiaHrubala  Год назад +9

      Thank you so much for your kind words!
      1) As far as the amount of fabric I’d probably recommend 4 yards. It’s quite a bit of gathering for the skirt. I used the duvet cover that was about 2.5 yards but that was two layers of fabric making it 5 yds in total. I didn’t use all of the fabric though.
      2) Yes! The number of cuts per piece does include the lining pieces.
      Thank you so much! I can’t wait to see what you make. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    This is a really cute pattern, However, if it were me, I would create a pattern piece for the skirt. Given the fact that it has a dropped waist, you simply cannot just cut a big rectangle for the skirt, gather one side, and then attach it to the bodice expecting it to look good. If you did that, you would end up with an uneven hem and a strange pucker in the front below the "V", which is what your video shows. The skirt piece must take into account the dropped "V" waistline. I have been sewing for over 50 years and can modify your pattern so that the result it what is intended. However, if you have beginners trying to make this dress, they are going to waste a lot of fabric, time, and money on the skirt part. Just my two cents.

    For anyone attempting this project: I sewed this for a friend and would recommend making a first attempt at the bodice from muslin or scrap fabric so that you can mark and make alterations. It will be necessary. Additionally, for the skirt I ended up making a half circle skirt but would definitely recommend a full circle skirt to achieve that level of fullness. Gathering rectangular panels won’t have as much flair. Attaching the skirt to the basque (v-shaped) waistline was very difficult so I would recommend watching different tutorials on how to do that. Hope this helps someone!

    This is my first time on your channel. That dress is absolutely fabulous. It looks stunning on you. I am so impressed with your skills as a pattern draper. Do you do flat pattern drafting as well? And the construction is really well done. The one criticism I have (well, two) have to do with the front "vee" in the skirt. I think it would look a bit cleaner if that were a seam rather than a gather there. It looks a bit "bunchy" and isn't falling correctly. A center front seam would correct that. Secondly, and this is purely a design choice,, the dip kinda looks like a crotch arrow. Not trying to point out (pun intended) anything unseemly, as I realize that that's how you wanted the dress to look, just sayin'. Anyway, it's a really well-done garment, and you look fabulous in it. But, what with your physique, you'd look good in a burlap sack.

  • @quirkedupshawty

    Did anyone figure out how to do the skirt? I’ve completed the bodice which looks beautiful - I’m using a bedsheet and have ended up trying to gather the one long rectangle for the skirt and it’s just not working out with the point in the front of the bodice. If the front was straight across I know it would work but I reeeeally want to keep it how it’s shaped…

    • @centuarmeat
      @centuarmeat 7 месяцев назад +1

      This is a skirt shape I've been really struggling to find tutorials/patterns for. I am planning to cut a rectangle like she says, but I'll pin it straight across. While it's still pinned straight I'll do a second gathering and pinning along the waistline. After that I can unpin the straight part and trim the extra fabric. Planning to try that with the muslin mockup so I can reference that skirt pattern shape for future projects

    thank you for the free pattern! loved the dress. I have a question, tho- how do you line up the pattern? like am I supposed to overlap the papers or keep it lined up side by side? I wanted the size of XS and it's really long (the back part and front were like to my knees!) so I was wondering if I'm doing it right! (it will still be long if I overlapped too.. which is why I asked!) also, in the video you mentioned about the other detailed tuition video of this dress? or did you mean something else? Thank you!!
