Hi everyone! Today's video is a step by step tutorial on how to transform a basic bodice block into a dress with princess seams. I have been asked before to make a tutorial on princess seams pattern making, so here it is! I really hope you guys like it. The dress I made has a boat neckline in the front, a flared a-line skirt, and a deep v neckline in the back. In this video I also teach you how to make the dress fully lined, so the inside looks really professional and well finished. If you'd like for me to work on a pattern for this style to add to my shop, please let me know in the comments!

There are! Don't know if I'm allowed to write their channel names here. But, they're both Vietnamese. One doesn't talk at all but the videos are SUPER CLEAR and easy to understand and follow
@@sweetLemonist I would love to know what their channels are called!
@@Amapola454 one is Thuy. She has multiple channels. Try with " Thuy sewing" first. Her videos are gold for beginners. The other one, you might know. It's Jess Dang. In her older videos she always explains how to make the pattern before she sews the item. Hope it helps.
@Amapola454 Jess Dang also makes pattern making video's. She makes it really easy to follow :).
I made it, ended up really beautiful and the tutorial is really easy to follow, thank youuu❤❤❤

So chic! And the shorts you wore while making this are identical to all the shorts I wore as a 17 thru 20 something year old girl! Nostalgia! Magnific!
Thank you, my dear! The shorts are actually thrifted and vintage! I love them so much.
@@coralinestreet then they could very well be an old pair of mine! What an amazing thought that is!

Isso tá tão perfeito ! Te amo cara
Que bom que gostou 💜
Would love a vest tutorial!
Got it! 💜
Hi! I’ve been wanting to learn how to make patterns forever and your doing such a great job teaching! 🥹 one question though: when adding the seam allowance to the finished pattern you added more seam allowance at the zipper (looked like 1.5cm) and none to the back side panels. Can you explain why?
Beautiful design, sort of looks like the audrey hepburn dress!
Thank you! Yes, it does! I want to make a Black one too
THIS IS MY FAVORITE ONE SO FAR CALL IT ALICE BIAS PLZ
🤣 I already have a pattern named Alice, so I can't do that this time!
Love this white dress 🤍🤍🥰🥹
I LOVE this dress! 😍 Could you give us an estimation on when the pattern might be finished?
I'm currently receiving feedback from the pattern testers. I'm hoping it will be released next month!
always perfect! amazing job!
Thank you so much!
Oh I need thissss!
Ficou perfeito!😍😍😍
Obrigada
You are so pretty
So gracious! Well done!
Thank you, my dear!
Yay s2
Amazing video, thank you very much for it! I plan to try your basic pattern block tutorial as soon as I get my hands on some sturdy big paper, and this one probably in time as well!
I just wonder, how do you decide straight grain line angle? Perpendicular to the waist line?
You could try gluing some sheets of printer paper as well, to make a bigger sheet! That's how I used to do it in the beginning.
The grainline depends! In this case, I made it parallel to the center seam of the dress. It happens to also be perpendicular to the waist line this time, but that's not always the case! If it's confusing to you, please ignore the following part.
But for a better fit, sometimes we can't have the waist line being a straight line. Because of the design of this dress, and the diamond darts we have at the front and the back, it's okay for the waist line to be straight! But for some skirts, it's better to make it a bit lower at the front center seam of the skirt, and a bit higher at the back center seam (to accommodate the curves of the body better). So it's better to think of it as perpendicular to the floor, rather than perpendicular to the waist line! And when we're making half patterns, the center seam is usually perpendicular to the floor. So that's the line I usually use to base my grainline! But it's not a rule for all garments.
@@coralinestreet Thank you very much for your answer! And I still hope you will make pattern to buy for that purple dress!
Vest tutorial please! Thank you for sharing how to make my own bodice pattern ❤
I do really want to make one!
you are amazing! Thank you so much!
You're welcome, my dear! 💜
Hi Coraline!! Your videos are amazing and I appreciate how well you explain everything. Would you be able to make a pattern for the yellow dress in the Barbie movie? It is my favourite dress of all time but I haven’t been able to find anything like it!!
When the movie came out it was also one of my favorite looks! I think I could hack the Aimee Bias Cut dress pattern to make it look similar, just adding a sleeve to it! If I end up making that, I'll let you know!
I AM SO EXCITED
I hope you like it s2
Best tutorial PLEASE
Simplesmente lindo!!!❤
Obrigada!
This is just gorgeous! I'm thinking about making my formal wedding dress in this princess style, only I want a completely straight but low neckline and then straps. Could i simply cut the pattern underneath the arms and add straps? ❤
If the neckline is straight and low, I think you would have a better fit if the front princess cut ended at the shoulders instead! You can watch this video here where I made it like this, maybe it will be more helpful: ruclips.net/video/WNQgAaBh6EA/видео.htmlsi=Il9KxRXD-o7zntuv
The princess cut can be done following the already existing shoulder dart, but since it's a tight bodice, you'll probably need to enter a little bit on each side of the shoulder dart. Make a toile and test the fit before going for the more expensive fabric!
@@coralinestreet thank you for answering, I will try that! So sweet of you!
This dress and model are stunning!! what fabric did you use? Thank you for your amazing channel, I've learned so much!
You're welcome, my dear! I used a mediumweight twill cotton canvas.
Hey Caroline!!! Thank you for sharing this amazing piece ❤ I'm thinking of making this dress with a square neck and I was thinking if I could make this dress out of a stretchy fabric I have so that I don't have to put on a zipper, what would you think about that?
gorgeous dress
Hi Caroline, this dress is so pretty! Do you have a video anywhere showing how to draft an a-line dress with a side slit? I’d really like to make something like this but I don’t want to do it wrong and waste my fabric!
I made it in this video right here: ruclips.net/video/vyr43F8su_I/видео.htmlsi=7xgLYfeLKoi6-xY6
But for the slit, you can follow the patternmaking process the same way I made this pattern. Since there are separate pattern pieces for the Center Front and Side Front, all you have to do is mark on the pattern how high you want your slit to hit, and when sewing the front panels together, you only sew up until that part. The rest you just have to hem. Watch the video so you can understand a bit better! But it's basically the same pattern as this one. The only thing that changes is the sewing part.
@@coralinestreet thanks!
Moça, muito muito obrigado por seus videos!!!
todos eles estão incríveis, muito bem explicados. Eu sou nova na modelagem e costura e entendi tudo!
muito obrigado mesmo! não pare, você me ajudou (e está me ajudando muito)
Eu fico muito feliz de saber!!!! Obrigada ❤️
maybe it's a stupid question, but do you make the lining with the same pattern (i.e. with exactly the same measurements) as the main fabric?
really amazing video by the way ❤
Hi my dear! Not stupid at all. Some people prefer to make the lining smaller, but for this project I cut them the exact same size
the way i gasped when you said SARJA and TRICOLINE omg , lots lots off love from brazil
Sou simmm
Could you explain how to under stitching?? Didn’t get how you do it😅
Can you please do the vest? It would look so good!
I really want to!
This is so cute!! thank you so much for the tutorial
Thank you! I used less than 1 meter
Your final pattern pieces do not appear to have seam allowance added to the side seams, is this correct?
Yes, you are correct! The reason for that is because in my Basic Bodice Block tutorial I already included 1 cm seam allowance at the sides when drafting the pattern. So the sides already had seam allowance! And for the skirt I also added 1cm seam allowance at the hips when drafting (the waist measurement used was the same one as the bodice, with seam allowance included!)
I reckon it could be a bit confusing, so I'm sorry for that! I should have mentioned it in the video!
mds sigo a um tempo e nao sabia que era br 🤍🤍
hahaha
Beautiful!!
Omgggg u r so freaking gorgeous 💕 for a second i thought u r Riley Keogh
Thank you so much ❤️
If I wanted to make a dress with the same neckline and A-line shape but midi length, how would you go about it? Thank you!
When I'm drafting the skirt panel, I tell you to measure how long you want your skirt to be. Just make the center line longer, as much as you'd like. And I used 5cm/2 inches as a measurement to flare the skirt to the sides, but I recommend using more than that at the bottom if it's a long skirt. Maybe 15 cm? It will depend on how flared you want it!
Thank you so much ❤
You're welcome 💜
Super neat
Thank you 💜
Can you iron fabrics just on a plain table? Or is that a special table you had there?
I don't think we're supposed to do that at all 😂 but can you believe I don't own an ironing board? Need to get one hahaha
I was just wondering the same thing 🤣
Please make a long vest tutorial❤
Currently working on it!
Can we make denim dress with this pattern?
Yes!
👌👌😍😍beautiful!
❤❤❤

can i make the pattern without the princess seams? I just want to use the darts but i don't know if it works
You would need to sew the darts close, and only draw the neckline on the pattern once the sholder dart is closed. I personally think it looks more smooth with the method I made, separating the front and back into 2 parts. Sometimes the darts can look a bit pointy. And if you're lining, it might be too volumnous. But it's up to you! You can try it out and tell me if it worked out.
please make the vest too
I will!
I want to make this dress longer because I don't like short dresses (about knee lenght). Do you have any recommendations for that so that it doesn't look awkward?
If you're making it knee length, maybe it would be better to make it more flared at the hem, because if it's too form fitting you might have trouble walking. But if you'd like to make it tighter, I would recommend making a slit at the center back seam, so you don't get your movements restricted
How do you guys think this dress will look with a square neckline with strap bows. Is there a way to modify it to look that way?
Obrigada pela legenda ❤
De nada ❤️
Vest tutorial please!
I will work on it!!
Aaaa bem vinda ❤️
pleaseeee make the vesttttttt
I will!
Hello Cora, I seem to be having issues accessing your website from my new device.
It's always telling that the address cannot be found🙁
Is the 15cm for the darts same for everyone?
In the book I'm reading, darts should end atleast 3/4 inch before the fullest measurement. So you may want to draw your hip measurement in before you do the lower waist dart. Your waist and hip line might be closer or further apart so it's worth a bit of trial and error
I just came by 5 days late 😓 just when i deicded to get on to learning how to stitching. So cannot get the template anymore?
It looks beautiful on you!
Ok need to find someone to commission to make this for me asap
🥰
