    After only a week of ownership, you know I had to get the new EcoDiesel Wrangler out on the trails. With no mods done yet, I wanted to get a feel for it on the trail and how it performs.
    Thanks to Corey for coming along, we had a lot of fun!

      What about any issues with the regeneration of the DPF exhaust system while off-road? I know my 2015 Ecodiesel will flash a message on the message screen stating,” Exhaust system at 80% full, drive at highway speeds to remedy.” It would be interesting to see what Jeep’s solution to this would be while wheeling. Thanks!

    Would my TJ with 3.5" lift on 33"x12.5 muddies, double locked, 6-speed, 4.11 diff gearing, snorkel and a winch make it through these trails ? I could easily go for 4.5" lift and 35s.

    Maybe for future videos do like a side by side comparison between the diesel going over an obstacle compared to a gas. As in how much gas is needed to be used etc etc and just reliability videos as you pack on the miles as im sure many of us are curious on that before we bite the bullet on a diesel . but in my opinion ATs on a jeep are useless. They should just go and stick to MT for rubicons most of us dont get jeeps for the ride quality anyways

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  4 года назад +1

      Ya, I didnt add the MT tires because they cost more but they should be standard on a Rubicon haha. Ill try to do a day out and see if there is a fuel cost difference. I am going to do a video with fuel economy before and after larger tires to see how well the ecodiesel handles them.

      I don't plan to keep these tires on long. In the winter when there is almost always snow, chains can be helpful. But when the snow is up to your axle, they don't help much.

    The Ecodiesel will be plenty of power even when you put on bigger tires. I have a 17 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel with 37x12.5r17 MTs. I do easy to moderate trails. If the Ecodiesel can get my fullsize up some hills with 37s with 3.92 gears, I'm sure you'll be fine. You just might have to get use to the turbo having to spool up when going up steep inclines.

    Great video! Can you do us a favor and before you run 37s can you do 0-60mph runs, 60-80mph runs (to simulate passing) on a flat surface as well as uphill so we can see just how much acceleration you lose when switching to the larger tires in the EcoDiesel? Also id love to see a first gear crawl with no braking down a hill with stock and 37s on to see how much faster the truck rolls down the hill with 37s, curious if the ratio is much worse when you make that switch.
    Keep up the EcoDiesel content!

      escdefender I’ve driven a diesel rubicon on stock tires and again on 37s. There’s next to no change in power delivery and the passing power is identical with the same 3.73 gearing. Other than testing it briefly after we lifted it, no offroad experience but it’s very very slow
      I initially intended to order a gladiator and throw that turd v6 in the ocean for a 6.4 hemi but now I’m ordering the diesel when I can. It’s that much better.
      I’m gonna get a sport, truss the axles, 3.5” 4 link lift and run 37s daily and 39” BFGs off road. 4.56 and ARBs

    Around the 3:00 minute mark you mentioned that you were already in 4 wheel drive, why do you going into 4x4 for what looks to be a mild climb. I tend to leave it in 4x2 until I start getting tire spin or it’s really steep. Not trying to criticize just looking to learn

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  4 года назад +3

      Thx for the question. A couple reasons, and these are just my opinion. The loose terrain and continuous variations in terrain do cause constant tire slip. I see no reason not to use 4 wheel drive high when on loose terrain. I am on the thought of using what you have to take any strain off the drivetrain. Its the same reason, if I think I might need a rear locker on an obstacle, I will use it, rather then possibly skinny peddling through and potentially causing issues with the drive line. With factory tires, it is less an issue, but moving up to larger sticker tires, the more I can let the systems work for me, the less stuff I tend to break. As well, if I am spinning in 2wd and someone is behind me, I am chucking rocks at their rig. Everyone has their own opinion on this I am sure but that is my logic whether or not others agree.

    • @mazevx2451
      @mazevx2451 4 года назад +2

      A reason for 4x4 even without real need on loose ground is you spread the torque and cause lesser trail fatigue. The same is it with airing down. Thread lightly!

    • @jeckart3d
      @jeckart3d 4 года назад +2

      Catch cans won’t work on diesels from what I’ve seen due to the super-low pressure they generate inside the engine.
      Apparently you can do some heavy mods to install a catch can, but it’s not as simple as disconnecting a few hoses and bolting it on like with the gassers.

      For the most part every on highway Diesel engine built in 2010 and later require diesel exhaust fluid. I believe the 2010 - 2012 Ram 2500/3500 Cummins 6.7 was exempt because of credits. Those credits ran out in 2013 and the Cummins 6.7 started using DEF in 2013. So since 2013 100% of Diesel engines use DEF...no way around that.

    With those wheels and those tires 15 psi is safe. Run 12 PSI rock crawling with those wheels and 37"x12.5 17 Cooper STT Pro's no problem. In cold weather would probably stay at 15 psi.

    • @Casey250
      @Casey250  4 года назад

      For sure. I wasn't too concerned other then 42 psi was bone jarring lol.

    • @chrisjones2252
      @chrisjones2252 4 года назад

      I could imagine. With the 37 " tires I run Coopers at 26 PSI daily driving for comfort and proper wear with those stock wheels. The nice part of those wheels they were engineered by jeep to work like sand buggy wheels and allow bigger tires to be put on and run on tires to hold the bead, but need a harder compound for sidewalls like Coopers.Obvious spacers I run 1.75 " to work no problem with those. Soft sidewalls like Milestar will damage rim of wheel. Plus the valve stem is protected with those stock wheels. If you have any questions about those wheels check out my page and watch what I do with those stock wheels. You purchased one of the most capable Jeeps ever created. Congrats.

An American would wait till his Toyota Prius could make the hike. Well I guess a Canadian will wait till mid June to get to the lake.

    I think you just proved buying the Rubicon Diesel is a waste of money. Doesn’t seem to need the 4:1 low range. Lockers don’t help much most of the time, and the rear LSD could hold most people over until the upgrade to a front locker was necessary, let alone front and rear.

    • @Casey250

    Casey, I enjoy your videos, but I got this message from your first test drive of the Diesel. It smells a little, it a little noisy, it doesn't have power to get up a steep hill, but yeah it has torque. What it really told me is and what I already knew it how limited a stock Jeep Rubicon is in the backcountry. It could not even get up a little snowy hill. Jeep should get RUclips to take this video down because you just exposed the truth about Jeeps. Without modifications Jeeps are pretty much just road vehicles. They might climb a small ledge in Utah, but that is about it. Am I exaggerating? Perhaps Torque w/o proper wheels is just torque. For me the only reason to buy a diesel is for the gas mileage which allow longer trips between refueling or maybe the rock crawlers like the torque. Mud is mud, torque be dammed. But I look forward the your mods. I have driven Jeeps for the last 35 years. I only do what some would call "Overlanding" not a mudder, rock crawler by nature. I love my Jeeps and would never mistreat them like I see the extreme Jeepers do. I always feel sorry for the Jeeps when I watch these videos.
