    Eric this turned out great! Glad I was able to provide decent footage while falling up the hill. As for the Jeep, thanks for letting me take it or a spin. The EcoDiesel engine is a monster. I kinda regret getting the Hemi in my WK2. If I could swing the cost of a new Wrangler with that engine, I'd be all over it.
    I managed to follow along fine in my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that day, but the Wrangler was able to do each obstacle with far less drama. Great video.

    We bought a 2020 Willys this year with the Diesel and so love it so far. It has a ton of power and sounds pretty awesome too. I am hoping it will last because we plan on keeping it for a long time. My understanding is that the Diesel jeeps come w the dana 44 up front and the Rubicon shocks, due to the additional weight. It's a little perk for those of us not getting an actual Rubicon. So far so good, it's a blast to drive.

Including floating across the ocean on massive tires! Hahaha. I kid, but really great video. Shout out to Fully Spooled for the awesome outside shots.

    whoa! I love that color. My girlfriend and I are looking at getting an 18+ Wrangler soon. Been doing a ton of research on these things. If you had to recommend one powertrain combo (preferably an auto because it'll be used to carry around our kids), what would you recommend? It will be her daily driver

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  4 года назад +2

      The color is called Hella Yella and I'm all about it! You can get all Jeeps with an automatic. The EcoDiesel will get you the best fuel economy by far. I noted 20mpg with several hours of off roading in 4L. You'll do better than that. My second choice would be the Pentstar 3.6l v6 because it's been around for so long. The 4 cylinder should get comparable fuel economy to the 3.6L, but personally I prefer the 6.

    I have some seat time in a 2018 JL Sahara and agree with your individual characterizations of the pros/cons. I also liked your demonstration of the diesel Rubi’s off-road prowess. But, I think your use of the word “flawed” in the title is clickbait. To say it wanders a bit on the freeway or is noisy compared to a crossover doesn’t mean it’s flawed. You get people, me included, thinking there is something wrong or defective with it when, by your own review, there isn’t.

    I’ve owned Jeeps my entire life. YJ, TJ, XJ.. haven’t made the jump to any 07 or later models but I can say with 100% certainty that when off-roading I’ve never thought, “my Jeep is lacking torque.” Yeah on paper, the numbers don’t look super impressive torque wise, but that is literally the purpose of the 4:1 transfer case, lockers, and disconnected sway bar. There is a reason Jeep has been the most capable factory built off road vehicle for many decades now. I think people mainly wanted the Diesel for towing or for better fuel economy but I could be wrong; thoughts? I mean after all, The diesel only comes in an automatic...sooo? 🤷‍♂️

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  4 года назад

      It's really the best of both worlds. The MPGs are certainly much better and it has more torque. The only downside is the $4K premium +$2k automatic. Most people will get the auto though, so it boils down to how much you want to spend up front vs longer term benefits.

My comment wasn’t to be dismissive to this rig as you seemed ecstatic about it and I’m sure rightfully so, but 20 years ago imagine having a factory built, mechanical, non-emissions engine getting 50mpg and being able to run on everything from veggie juice to used motor oil all while giving 500k of trouble free use.
      That is of course if anyone can actually stand riding 500k in a wrangler.

    Great review Eric!! EcoDiesel is a very capable engine and coupled to the Rubicon it's the best of 3 worlds, Offroading, torque torque torque is always what you want in a 4wheeler, and great interior/infotainment/gauges.
    I have a 7.3L turbodiesel Excursion, a Turbodiesel VW Passat, and a turbodiesel Audi TT Quattro (modified) so I like torque. You could have also mentioned how long these engines last in miles, my older Jetta had 425K miles when I sold it and still going strong. It's about time Jeep mated the EcoDiesel to the Rubicon!! Well done review!!

      @@revmatchtv I dunno, the ecodiesel has been out since 2014 and is Italian made. It has had a major recall due to a fire hazard, subject of a 800 million dollar lawsuit, and recvd a poor rating from the Automobile Protection Assoc for main bearing failure. Lots of knowledgeable mechanics will steering you away from this engine. I know this is the Gen3 version, but its been out for 6 years and now suddenly its a perfected engine? The ecodiesel has not proven itself like a cummins. I think the days of the diesel engine are numbered actually. California even wanted to ban them for awhile. The new emissions standards are the bane of any new diesel. For the jeep, the only benefit I can see is the extra torque and not many of us really need that. Its certainly not a towing machine, there lots of better trucks for that and you don't really save on the mileage. You pay almost 5k more for that engine and pay a payload penalty. You have figure in DEF fluid costs, higher oil change costs, and more emissions costs.

    Reason to buy a diesel.
    1. you don't have to worry about the gas fumes igniting from static electricity.
    2. Better fuel mileage.
    3. A lot less maintenance, and no worries about a tune-up.
    4. With it being a diesel you can also add a tuner to it and get more horsepower and more foot pounds of torque then you can get from a gas engine.

      There are a lot of problems for Diesel engines in the American market. The first problem is that diesel fuel is often more expensive than the lower grades of gasoline. Too bad jeeps are trash vehicles. Half decent off-road and no where else.

      @@2015_Rubicnn I like my cars to not rattle apart. Last jeep anyone in my family owned was a renegade that needed a transfer case and trans before 40k miles, 2 new batteries and an alternator because none of the glove box or trunk lights would turn off at first, and a new ecu for unknown reasons the dealership didn't specify before lemon lawing the vehicle. Last dodge I owned need new engine due to oil starvation on cyl 5 and spinning a bearing at 62k miles, the trans for the torque converter over heating at 73k, clutch got stuck. My sister's brand new wrangler oscar Mike edition lost a fender flare driving on the highway and had a cel on when she sold it at 18k miles. Family had a journey that was the most reliable and was traded in when the trans started slipping at ~87k miles. I speak from experience on multiple cars they have no qc.
