The Grouchy Nerd teaches the rules for Arkham Horror: the Card Game. If you want to help support these videos, you can do so here! www.buymeacoffee.com/thegrouchyG
Pretty good video. Just I'd say 1) You can never "play" skill cards, ever. This sounds pedantic, but several times the game's treacheries will forbid or limit the amount of cards you can play, but you are still able to keep committing skill cards. 2) You shouldn't use the starter decks because they're super bad and will give you a worse experience. Gather them up, look at the cards for a little and even a completely new player should be able to make some changes and make it better. Mind Over Matter in Roland, research librarian and medical texts make zero sense etc.
As the AH LCG first came out I bought the original core and a few packs. I immediately decided I didn't like AH LCG very much and wasn't enthused about chasing down LCG packs. Even though it has been a very popular game. However, when FF came out with the revised core set and the campaign/Investigator boxes I decided to give it another shot. I drew my own version of an insanity card and went all in with the Revised Core set and the Campaign/Investigator boxes. I've since purchased fancy neoprene investigator mats and some other aids. I pretty much know how to play the game rules (a lot to learn about strategy and deck building). This is an excellent overview of the rules and concepts. As I bring-out AH LCG I will re-watch this as a review. Thanks!
It took me a little bit to fully warm to it. I knew I liked it right away, but it also felt like something I could only play in the right mood. You have to be okay with failing a lot, or coming up just shy. But once the coin dropped on that being part of the fun, it took off for me.
Loved this video. I’m a new player and really impressed and excited about the potential adventures. This was really helpful and loved the humour vibe ❤
Thanks!! At this point, the card pool is deep enough that basically anyone could work solo, but I find that Seekers and Rogues have the hardest time and Mystics and Survivors have the easiest. My very favorites to play true solo are Agnes, Ashcan Pete (from Dunwich), and Nathaniel Cho (stand alone Guardian).
I played this when it first came out. Ended up selling it bcs at the time we were playing AH3ed regularly and it felt too samey. That was in the before-times, now I don't have a group anymore. Now I opted to invest in MC bcs my pocket is too weak to handle the troves of expansions this game has. BTW may I suggest adding an occasional recap after each segment (so for example, after you finished describing the action, do a very quick recap of "so you can either fight a monster, evade a monster, or blahdy blah")
Aaaah, damn. That would have been good. Definitely going to keep that in mind for future vids. Good call on not double dipping into the lcg realm. I tried calculating all the money I’ve spent between the two games and had to take some mental trauma. God help me if I ever try out the LOtR one, or they ever make a Star Wars one.
@@thegrouchynerd I thought they are making a Star Wars one (at least it is called "Star Wars: the deckbuilding game" but I didn't read about it too much out of fear my wallet will spontaneously combust). This is just my experience, but I got LotR last year, before you convinced me to get MC. I did not like it. I can't quite put my finger on why, could be because the core box 3 adventures had something of a prelude feeling to them, not that satisfying for a "LotR experience in a box" err.. experience. But you do you sir, you do you.
The Star Wars one won’t be quite so expansive, though. I’m sure there will be expansions, but not like all this. Good to know, about LOtR! That helps me not feel the pull!
I do! I also use coin capsules for the tokens. But sleeves and tokens are reflective as hell, so filming them kind of sucks! Also, I try to have my examples look like what you get in the box.
@@thegrouchynerd I like that you did this. I think review videos should show the actual materials you get in the game, and not upgraded stuff. I think the best upgrade for this is to replace the investigator cards with standees. I use those from FFG's other game, Eldritch Horror, and I just lay them down to show when they've taken their turn. But it would be nice if they included these in the box rather than those cards. Great video, and good sense of humor.
Thank you! FFG used to sell those little slips separately. I have a set of those, and I agree! Great upgrade! Gets very crowded on locations without them!
Do I want you to tempt me into finally exploring this IP? No. Do I need you to hint at such sights and visions that the ganglia twitch? Indeed yes. How long will I Safari(tm) dark forbidden FLGS hoping for limited time sales in a vein attempt to put things off? Is it the cyclopean narrative that attracts me or the possibility of marvelous upgraded third-party tokens? The scratching in the walls. It knows. It will help me decide.
Haha, give in to the madness! Iä iä! Good news is, it’s a lot easier to get into with the new release model. Hunting down the packs to get a campaign together was brutal.
Very good explanations, well done. But i completely disagree with your exaggerated description of Lovecraft being ridiculously racist or whatnot. I don't know where people get this inflated nonsense from, oh actually i do, from Twitter bubbles. I wrote almost all his works including the weird poetry cat stuff, which i didn't enjoy, and there were some descriptions in rare moments that absolutely would be considered unacceptable today in some books and it certainly made me raise an eyebrow but this doesn't mean he was racist at core nor that any of his work was.
@@thegrouchynerdI read this guys comment right before I started listening to a Curse of Yig Audiobook from HP Lovecraft. A few minutes into it I was like......how does this guy not think he was racist?

Great points! Thanks! I’m gonna pin this one!
Excellent video. Adore the game so happy to see more folks leaping in in solo or in groups
Thank you! It’s such a great game. Even when it hurts.
Funny seeing you here
One of my favorite games of all time. @@ChristopherOdd
My new favourite channel! Love the humour and excellent info. Keep up the great content!!!
Thank you very much!
I just stumbled into this channel by chance, and don't regret it. You do make me laugh, a lot.

You're one fluent showman, keep it up! Also Arkham is amazing
Thank you! And, yes, it sure is! Even when it’s VERY MEAN.
I like your spirit island educational video so much! This one is also superb!
Thank you very much!

Awesome! I love this game, so I’m always glad to help others enjoy it, too!
Wow, very good. This video makes my unplayed Arkham Horror LCG seem much more approachable. Fun overview, nicely nice.
Hey, glad to hear it! It’s an awesome game!
Awesome video, man. So much information packed and very well explained. Wish I'd have seen it earlier. Cheers!
Thanks!!
Thanks for the humour, learning just got more entertaining.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Love your style of humor!
Thanks! Hope it helped!
So good! This is what I will show people who are new to the game.
Hey, thanks!
Very well done!!!
Thank you!
Great video thank you! May I ask which investigator/s you use for true solo?
Thanks!!

Excellent tutorial 🎉🎉

Have you considered doing more videos on Arkham Horror LCG like you do Marvel Champions? Like investigator profiles?
It’s possible somewhere down the line, but I don’t have any plans for that at the moment. Good idea, though!
Please do more arkham content
I have some ideas in the works! No kind of timetable yet, though.
Good explanations.
Thanks!
Awesome video, great job! I too, like True Solo…. And a Bourbon! You just got a new Sub!
Heck yeah! Excellent taste all around!
Good teach !
Thanks, man!
Ideal player count indeed!
No down time is the best amount of down time.
That was fun and edumacational ;)
Thanks!

lol nice. it seems like this was based off the first edition and not revised? I don't recognize the art. And the new one comes with a bag.
