NOTE: You can investigate at a location, even if there are no clue tokens there (which may help you trigger some other card effects). Also, assigning and applying damage/horror is a two step process. This allows you to assign both damage AND horror to an asset (let's say, for example the Beat Cop at 24:47) before it is discarded.

I am greatly relieved finding your video after going through others' channels videos of arkham horror. I have been struggling to understand a few rules. However, you explained it the best way. Thank you so much. Your explanations of games really stand out.
That's stellar work, as always, Rodney! It's awesome to see Arkham Horror Card Game getting the deserved Watch It Played treatment! Hope this brings even more players, usually intimidated by the rulebook and the rules reference.
You do an excellent job of organizing and breaking down the rules into a nice flow. Well done and for what it's worth watching this has helped sell me on the game.
Another thorough yet fun to watch tutorial. It'll definitely ease the process of reading the rulebook. Thanks for the effort, Rodney. Much appreciated!
Thank you Rodney! Bought this game a month ago and the online tutorials were not that great. The husband and I set it aside for some of our newer easier to learn games. We're gonna pick it back up soon with this tutorial. The game looks awesome!!
every time i get a new game i hold my breath as i search how to play on youtube, just hoping Rodney has covered it... this has been a great explanation yet again to help get up to speed, between the rulebook... this video and already a relatively experienced lord of the rings lcg player it's been a breeze to get into this game and i am really enjoying it, already trying to figure out what the first expansion i will get
Rodney! I know you hear this all the time, but your video explanations are truly the BEST!! I've watched so many videos on this game but yours is exemplary.
Dude, I know you have been doing this a long time, but your explanations are impeccably awesome in how you explain things. I am a teacher and it takes a lot of scripting and work to be this good at teaching something so complex. This is awesome! I appreciate the new video for the revised box. I already have the old box, but never bought the 2nd copy that most suggest getting. I am debating buying the newer box, despite it having more cards than I need now, but I am wondering if the new box has updated cards at all. Also those token trays are sold out. RIP. Fantastic work!
Thank you kindly for the very nice words about the video. Appreciated! The new box does not have updated cards (as I understand it) - nothing is changed in terms of rules, but the number and types of cards is different (there are additional cards from some of the later sets built in). It also includes a bag, and much improved layout to the rules (and a lead investigator token). I just went to the site and still say trayz. Perhaps they added some more? boardgamegeekstore.com/?aff=2
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I've had this game for 2 years and have been too intimidated and overwhelmed to start a game. I tried to play the day I got it, alone, and quickly gave up. I did search for some tutorials on RUclips but nothing was able to explain it well enough for me to feel comfortable. Just watched yours and, as usual, it "clicked". This is GREAT!!!!
Ah, this is so nice to hear. I really hoped this might help ease people in. It can feel like a lot, but once it clicks, I think you'll find it plays smooth. happy adventuring!
I played my first campaign recently and I'm hooked on the game! This video was incredibly well done with lots of thorough details, proper focusing and depth of field, a consistently clear tone of voice, and even smooth transitions. Great job!
Dear Rodney, I have been waiting for the best part of the past 4 years for you to create 'a how to play' video of this beautiful card game... And now that you have you are making me spend 45min watching it... 🧐 Totally worth it sir! 😉 (Should have been careful of what I wished for...😀)
Thank you so much this really helps answer a lot of my questions. For whatever reason i read that we had 1 hand slot and 1 2 hand slot and i was very confused lol
I'm a new board gamer and I always look for one of your videos to explain a new game. This one seems particularly difficult for me to grasp but I'm looking forward to finally "getting" it. Thanks Rodney!
Just bought arkham horror the card game revised and you helped me a lot since I was confused about some rule details. Thank you for your videos keep up the good work!
I'm very impressed by the way the video is displaying different game-materials. I didn't read all the comments, so I'm gonna write it here: One thing I noticed is that you said: "If your investigator is at a location with clue tokens on it, you can perform an investigate action." Actually you can investigate at any location no matter if there are clue tokens or not. This will give you some fancy passibilities depending on what your character wants to do.
Thank you again, Rodney for another stellar and clear instructional video. I went and picked up the revised box today after watching your video last night, and am excited to give it a go.
Thanks, that's the first video that actually helped me to get into Arkham Horror...! I bought the game 3 years ago and struggled to get into it, since I dont have a local Arkham scene. I tried it a few times and stopped in the first minutes. This video actually gave me a walkthrough, how to handle that game, thanks a lot!
I’ve always had a tough time “getting into” card games like this (for some reason I haven’t identified yet, I prefer going to locations on an actual board or tile map rather than on cards) but your explanation convinced me to put it on my “possibly” list! Thanks Rodney!
Hey, thanks for checking this one out, even though it might not be your typical go-to. I found that this card game really stood out to be because it does give you that sense of place, and a board game unfolding in front of you - so yeah, this one might appeal to you more.
After reading the German rules 3 times, I still had several doubts about the core mechanisms. But after watching this video, I finally feel prepared to bring this game to the table. Thanks a lot.
I own almost all circle (expansion) of this game, and I still want listen to this tutorial!!! Awesome tutorial video as usual Rodney, thank you very much!!!
I just wanna add that I never respected game trays. Then I started using them(for this game, actually) and felt like a darn fool for not doing it sooner. Thank you Rodney, for slowly breaking me down until I submitted and bought some
Amazing video, and for anyone who wants to get into Arkham Horror there's a thriving community on social media with multiplayer events and podcasts and videos and streamers and a hundred other things out there!

Thank you so much for this. I am with family out of state and bought this to play with them. It has helped me so much. We will have lots of fun cause of you!
Great video and clear explanation, very helpful, thanks!! Question - if I would get The Dunwich Legacy Campaign Expansion, that does not include new investigators. Would it still be fine to play it with the investigators from this revised core box?
Huge Arkham fan but always a pleasure to have you explain it to me anyway Rodney. I was first introduced to you when learning War of the Ring, and recently enjoyed your chat with Quinns! If I may add a note, @24:47 it’s worth considering that assigning and applying damage/horror is a two step process. This allows you to assign both 2 damage AND 2 horror to Beat Cop, before the asset is discarded. Possibly life-saving if you receive damage and horror simultaneously!
I just got back into the LOTR LCG with a couple of new expansions, and thought that this game was the same system with a different theme. Watching this (fantastic!) review has made realise that I also need this game haha. It looks really great with lots going on

I am just so happy for others who haven't yet tried this game! Your channel is still the best in learning new games. You make it so clear and easy. I especially love how you make it flow smoothly, i.e., aptly raising questions as the one watching might be thinking and answering and explaining them right away almost all the time. I also admire your continued humility on always welcoming corrections as needed to make your videos better. And man! I can really say the production quality of your videos now has been phenomenal compared to the starting days of your channel! You really seem to always care a lot for everyone to learn these games.😊 Thanks again, Sir, for your videos! A hopeful new year to you and your family!🌈

That's stellar work, as always, Rodney! It's awesome to see Arkham Horror Card Game getting the deserved Watch It Played treatment! Hope this brings even more players, usually intimidated by the rulebook and the rules reference.
Amen. Thank you very much Mr. Smith. 👨🏫
I hope so too!
Every time I get a new boardgame I come here looking for a how to play. These videos always have the right amount of detail and focus.
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Got the game for Christmas and was thankful to find you had a video on it! Diving into it soon. Thanks for the teach!
You're very welcome - have a great time playing (and saving the world)!
Thanks, just what I needed to start getting into the game!
That's so nice to hear - I hope you have a great time adventuring, and thank you so much for the kind support of the channel!
You do an excellent job of organizing and breaking down the rules into a nice flow. Well done and for what it's worth watching this has helped sell me on the game.
Very glad you enjoyed - thanks!
Thank You for this! You have become my go to reference for learning new games, so clear, so easy to follow!
Thanks very kind of you to say!
Just finished my first watch through before I start a campaign. Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks a lot - have a great time playing!
Another thorough yet fun to watch tutorial. It'll definitely ease the process of reading the rulebook. Thanks for the effort, Rodney. Much appreciated!
Have a great time playing (and saving the world!)
Just got this core set on clearance and sorted it all out. Thanks for teaching me how to play :) love your videos! ❤
A pleasure - I hope you have a great time playing. Nice find!
Really love this game. I’m really glad that there is this video and a revised box to help people get into the game.
Yes, really cool to see them give the game a refresh for new players looking to jump in.
Congratulations on an excellent video and clear and concise "How to Play" descriptions. The best I have seen.
Very glad you liked it - thanks!
Thank you Rodney! Bought this game a month ago and the online tutorials were not that great. The husband and I set it aside for some of our newer easier to learn games. We're gonna pick it back up soon with this tutorial. The game looks awesome!!
I hope you both have a great time playing, and find the video helpful!
every time i get a new game i hold my breath as i search how to play on youtube, just hoping Rodney has covered it...
this has been a great explanation yet again to help get up to speed, between the rulebook... this video and already a relatively experienced lord of the rings lcg player
it's been a breeze to get into this game and i am really enjoying it, already trying to figure out what the first expansion i will get
And there are lots of expansions waiting for you :) Very glad you enjoyed the video!
I can't believe how watchable this is! Thanks!
Thank you kindly - glad you enjoyed!
Rodney! I know you hear this all the time, but your video explanations are truly the BEST!! I've watched so many videos on this game but yours is exemplary.
That's very kind of you to say - I'm really glad you found this presentation helpful!
Thank you so much dude you explained the events and triggers and actions so perfectly!
So glad this was helpful - have fun adventuring!
Great job!
Very kind of you to say - glad you're enjoying the game!
Thank you mate, really helped me out with this one. I have The Gathering all set up on my dining room table and now i'm ready to go!
Have a great time playing!
Dear Rodney, I have been waiting for the best part of the past 4 years for you to create 'a how to play' video of this beautiful card game...
And now that you have you are making me spend 45min watching it... 🧐
Totally worth it sir! 😉
(Should have been careful of what I wished for...😀)
Very happy to have been able to finally fulfill your request!
Thank you so much this really helps answer a lot of my questions. For whatever reason i read that we had 1 hand slot and 1 2 hand slot and i was very confused lol
Very glad to know if was helpful - have fun playing :)
I'm a new board gamer and I always look for one of your videos to explain a new game. This one seems particularly difficult for me to grasp but I'm looking forward to finally "getting" it. Thanks Rodney!
Welcome to the hobby Jay. This one has a lot of moving parts, but hopefully the video helps give you some confidence as you dive in.
I got it today and thought you would have and old video about how to play it... it turns out you put one out just in time! Nice!!!!
Nice timing :)
Just bought arkham horror the card game revised and you helped me a lot since I was confused about some rule details. Thank you for your videos keep up the good work!
Very glad to know it was helpful George, have a great time adventuring!
Yes, good catch!
Great video btw. I’ve got the revised core set and the revised Dunwich Expansion set coming in the post. Can’t wait!
They arrived! Starting tonight!
Thank you again, Rodney for another stellar and clear instructional video. I went and picked up the revised box today after watching your video last night, and am excited to give it a go.
I hope you have a great time playing! I'm looking to playing a few sessions over the holidays as well!
You're very welcome Steve, I hope you have a lot of fun with the game!
So glad to know the video was helpful Andreas!
Woh.. perfect timing as ever! 😆 I was just looking to re-learn this and finally play it with my gaming group! Amazing video. 🙌🏼 x
Very happy to assist! Have fun diving back in!
I own almost all circle (expansion) of this game, and I still want listen to this tutorial!!! Awesome tutorial video as usual Rodney, thank you very much!!!
Thank you Duy - I hope it affirms all the rules you already know!
I bought this game several months ago and have yet to play it. After watching the amazing Rodney Smith at work here, I might give it a go soon. 😀
I hope you have a great time playing!
This explanation is BRILLIANT - thank you for creating this!
Very kind of you to say - have fun playing!
Amazing explanation! Rodney, you are outstanding!
Thank you kindly Erril, have a great time playing!
Thanks!
Very glad you enjoyed - thank you kindly for the tip, and happy adventuring!
This is my favorite game of all time, glad to see you showcasing it Rodney!
I was really excited to get the chance to cover it!
I just wanna add that I never respected game trays. Then I started using them(for this game, actually) and felt like a darn fool for not doing it sooner.
Thank you Rodney, for slowly breaking me down until I submitted and bought some
lol, I have a stack of them that I keep near my game area, and use regularly. :)
Amazing video, and for anyone who wants to get into Arkham Horror there's a thriving community on social media with multiplayer events and podcasts and videos and streamers and a hundred other things out there!
Yes, strong community out there for this game!
Awesome video!! Been a player for a couple of years now but still found this informative and enjoyable. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind comment!
Okey I saw 3 video guides 7,15 and 20 minutes because 43 min was too long…. After that I watched your video and I will never watch shorter or any other guide then yours! You explain everything I dont get with perfect editing and informations! You earn sub and big fan :)
It is a fine line - I never want a video to be longer than it has to be, but I also want to ensure the time you're spending watching is truly helping you understand and lock those rules in as much as possible. Thank you for the very kind comment and welcome!
Thanks Rodney! Been waiting for an Arkham Horror LCG video for a long time. Maybe I will finally get around to playing it from my growing shelf of shame!
Hey - seems like as good a time as any!
This was a perfect refresher. Thank you!
Very glad it helped - happy adventuring!
Amazing run-through as always Rodney! Really loved the free standing card wizardry you used while explaining the cards.
I've been hoping to get some friends new to the hobby into this game and now I have the perfect video to share with them. Thanks!
I hope this helps get your friends into it :)
Super insightful and helpful for getting back into the game, awesome video!
Hey hey, glad you enjoyed!
Amazing video! You explained how to play this game so well and it was very enjoyable to watch. Just bought the game and can't wait to play it with my wife!
I hope you both have a great time playing!
I appreciate the blurred hand gestures in the background of zoomed in cards. convergence of information, heck ya!
Very glad you enjoy :)
Thank you so much. I just bought this and after setting up I was instantly stumped on how to play. I am so excited to jump in. Subscribed.
I hope you find this helpful - have a great time playing!
Thank you so much for this. I am with family out of state and bought this to play with them. It has helped me so much. We will have lots of fun cause of you!
That is really nice feedback to receive - so glad the video has been helpful. Happy adventuring (and saving the world!)
This is my favourite game channel. I always watch before i get a game.
That is so nice of you to say - glad you're enjoying!
Either you have, like, play a board game or not, watching Rodney's videos is a delight by itself.
Thanks really kind of you to say :)
Great video and clear explanation, very helpful, thanks!! Question - if I would get The Dunwich Legacy Campaign Expansion, that does not include new investigators. Would it still be fine to play it with the investigators from this revised core box?
Absolutely, or investigators from any set. have a great time investigating!
My husband and I just got this game for the holidays ! Thanks for making this video (:
You're very welcome - have fun adventuring together (and saving the world!)
That's the video I should have watch first, you answered all the questions I had. Thank you, this is a very well done and informative video.
So glad you liked it - have fun playing!
Possibly life-saving if you receive damage and horror simultaneously!
great tip - added a note about this to a pinned comment.
Good timing. Finally getting back to this game after not having played it this last year and needed a refresher.
I needed the refresher too as I've been getting it to the table more as well :)
I just got back into the LOTR LCG with a couple of new expansions, and thought that this game was the same system with a different theme. Watching this (fantastic!) review has made realise that I also need this game haha. It looks really great with lots going on
Glad you enjoyed what you saw! Definitely a different system from LOTR LCG :)
Your videos just keep getting better and better, Rodney. You're the king of teaching games!
If you don't mind giving up the goods, what's your camera/lighting setup these days? Loving the look of these.
Very kind of you to say - I hit you up with a reply to this question on your Facebook post.
Love your work Rodney. Awesome game too. Thanks for the play through.
Thank you kindly!
Oh wow, this would be a treat to have back when I started ot play AH LCG back in 2019. But I'm glad you did this now, Rodney! Thanks!
Never to late to discover a game, right? :)
I've learned multiple games from you so far including this one, which I don't even have yet, it's currently on the way in the mail, haha. Thank you sir, your videos are fantastic.
So glad to know you've been enjoying - have a great time adventuring in Arkham :)
dude, literally amazing work, thank you!
Thank you kindly!
Mate, I literally received my copy of the revised set today. Perfect timing. You legend!
Hey, that's great! Have a great time adventuring!
Finally! My go-to channel for learning new games covered this game! I tried learning this game during this darn pandemic via the hard way (by watching a LOT of youtube tutorials and playthroughs).
But high quality production and excellent content aside, it's still the sense of this channel having a heart that makes me enjoy its videos even in its early days.
You really seem to always care a lot for everyone to learn these games.😊
Thanks again, Sir, for your videos! A hopeful new year to you and your family!🌈
What a very kind and generous comment to leave Kulisap - if I can continue to live up to this standard, then I will be fulfilling my goals for the work we go here. Thanks for being with us all this time, and happy new year to you and yours as well :)
Best youtube channel for learning gameplay and rules.
Very kind of you to say Sam!
I just love the way you explain the things. Is there high strategic atmosphere in this game besides the in depth theme.
I am very new to board games(only tried a few like ticket to ride)and very excited to try this type of games. what do you think ,should l?( Though new, think I can manage complex games)
This is difficult to answer, because I think every player will have their own opinion about strategy. This is a game I have enjoyed playing, so maybe you might as well?
Another quality video, you and Paul Grogan are my 'go to' for rules video along with Universal Head's player aids - great assets to our hobby.
Thank you kindly!
I know this question is unrelated and sound ridiculous but how do you stand your cards. I thought you have some kind of card stand behind the cards but when I saw 14:38 it just blew my mind.
A little mystery is fun, isn't it? ;)
Wow appreciate this! One of the best games ever
Glad you've enjoyed this one :)
Nice job.... Can we see an updated behind the scenes how you go about planning these? Your filming and editing workflow too
I do get requests for that from time to time - if I get some spare time for something like that, I might.
@@WatchItPlayed Your quality has definitely gone up since I last checked. Nice job! I'm particularly intrigued how you coordinate with other content creators into your channel (which I love).
Thank you for this informative guide! I'm getting started to play and this definitely gave me alot of info
Very glad this was helpful - we're currently playing through a campaign here - all the best with your adventures!
You are such a wholesome man, thank you for the video.
Thank you kindly!
I've played like 4 campaigns and this video taught me that engaged enemies move with you
Hey hey, glad you picked something up from this!
Wow thanks for the great explanation! That seemed a lot less intimidating than I thought it would be. My revised core set should arrive any day now..... Can't wait to dig in!
I hope you have a great time adventuring (and saving the world).
As always and outstanding "How to play". Thanks Rodney.
Thank you kindly Baliusd!
I love your videos Rodney! They are of such high quality, and you explain the rules exceedingly well. I would watch your videos over any rulebook.
I've also noticed the dramatic increase in production value in your videos. Keep it up! It's excellent.
Thanks so much for the kind comment!
Choosing Agnes is always the right choice. #TeamMystic
I come once a year to remind myself I'm playing correctly. Thanks Rodney!
You and me both!
Which version says 1-2 players?
I'm not quite sure what you're asking.
