Thumbs up for not cooking it! I make fourteen quarts every third week of October and let the batch 'age' for at least a month in a 20 quart pot in the fridge before bottling in quart sized Libbey milk bottles. Then, I serve it up at Thanksgiving & Christmas. I usually keep a quart or two to have alongside the following year's batch in order to gauge the difference in taste since I like to change up the alcohol's I use. After ten years of making eggnog, no one has ever taken ill after having a year-old nog (stored in the fridge, of course)! Last year I used Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Martell VSOP Cognac, & regular Chairman's Reserve Rum. This year, I will be using Kirkland Bottled In Bond Bourbon (by the house of Barton 1792), Martell Blue Swift Cognac, & Chairman's Reserve Spiced Rum. Thanks for showing your version!!
Love eggnog and made the base recipe last year. Trying the Anejo/Sherry version this year. Love the comment about the concept of a cold Christmas being unfamiliar (made me think about how Christmas experiences vary so much based on where you are on the globe). Hope you have a Merry Christmas STB!

Truly, one of the best surprises of the holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New year. Mad respect for all that you have shared with us fans. Peace....

Merry Christmas Steve! Christmas eve (today) is the biggest day of Christmas here in Finland and I'm going to celebrate it with my wife and the eggnog you made last year!
I'd say it's weird to me that you have Christmas during summer too but I live in Florida which is the southern part of the US and it diesnt get cold here and never snows (never being once every 20 years we might get a few snowflakes but not even enough to make a single snowball) Happy Holidays to you, Kat and the puppy.
We follow a recipe for aged eggnog so we make a batch to drink immediately (hot or cold, hot is custard style) and then we age the second batch for up to two years, it is noticeably different but delicious (Wisconsin, USA). I recommend it all, but I grew up with it as a tradition as well. Thank you for showing the tequila version, that looks interesting. Merry Christmas.
I have not traditionally enjoyed eggnog but these two choices look delicious and amazing!! I think I definitely have to make both and compare!! This is such a fabulous video right before Christmas! Thanks so much Steve!! Merry Christmas! I hope it is full of fun and happiness!! Cheers!! :-)
I love Morganthaler's nog been making it for years now cant stand store bought anymore. Fukin hell Tinny! ....awesome.....Merry Christmas Steve to you and yours
I was making batch cocktails for a family gathering, and I decided to add the base recipe version of the eggnog in this video. The two changes that I made were that I used a pasteurized egg product because I don't like to use raw eggs, and I substituted Captain Morgan 100 Proof for the Sailor Jerry's, because I thought the more in-your-face flavor profile of the Captain Morgan would stand out well in eggnog. (But Sailor Jerry's is a great product, and it's usually my go-to spiced rum.) The results were super, and, even though I was told "no eggnog," there wasn't much left of the 900 ml I made by increasing the recipe in the show notes by one half. I think more eggnog was drunk than anything else I brought.
@@StevetheBartender_ Thanks for asking. The other cocktails were a whiskey sour enhanced with a little honey whiskey and bitters (ginger and Angostura), an espresso martini, a Royal Bermuda Yacht Club daiquiri, and a rum punch.

You can use light cream instead of mixing the milk and heavy cream. Or for slightly less fat 1/2 & 1/2. Instead of having to keep multiple milk products.
If that's what you prefer, sure... but it isn't that hard to keep milk and cream on hand. Half and half by the carton isn't readily available in stores for that reason.
