Can't believe it's already December. Happy Holidays!
Time flies - grab a watch. Use code ANDERS at originalgrain.com/anders and get up to 40% OFF select styles!
These "Holidays" you refer to is that Christmas?
I don’t want watch from China..
All of these look delicious! Also, I would love a video talking about the different creme de cacaos and other "creme de..." liquers. Especially talking about different brands, budget vs fancier, etc.
Great idea. Cheers
This would be a great video.
Strongly support this "tutorial" idea on Creme Liquors... 👍
Door County’s best Xmas bar supports this idea.
Anders when I think of purist barmen, I think of you. I love that you keep the recipes traditional and don't stray into fads. Plus you appreciate a beautiful glass. My parents loved beautiful glasses and antique dishware and traveled the world collecting them. I am missing them this Christmas, but somehow seeing the Brandy Alexander glass reminded me of them. Cheers.
The Colleen Bawn is a play by an Irishman which is probably an english version of the Irish An Cailín Bán which would directly translate to The White Girl, which makes sense given the drinks appearance. Other translation interpretations could be White Lady, Pale Girl/Lady, Fair Girl/Lady
I had a variation of the rum hot toddy during a vacation in Poland! It had apple rum instead of regular dark rum, black tea, cinnamon and cloves. Definitely the best hot cocktail I’ve ever had! Will be trying this one this weekend :)
I remember keeping bar up on Madeline Island years ago. I went out there before the ice was out and we would get a lot of requests for the Wisconsin take on the Brandy Alexander. The more seasoned of my esteemed colleagues absolutely loathed making them because of how much work and mess was required. I on the other hand, found the drink charming and enjoyed making them. Needless to say, I backed myself into a corner on that one!😂
Love your video's. Need to throw this recipe out there for Christmas:
White Christmas:
2 oz Vodka
.75 Peppermint Schnapps
.75 Mozart White Chocolate Liquor
Mix and stir over ice then strain into a martini glass rimmed with red granulated sugar.
Keep up the great work Anders! And Merry Christmas!
I was literally freezing today waiting for my bus, came home and made myself a Hot Toddy from your older video. And I made this specific recipe. Really tasty. Thanks Anders, cheers.
Great minds think alike. Stay warm!
Have to try that! 😃 Growing up in Sweden, we used to drink “Hot Lumumba” when/after skiing. It’s basically just hot chocolate with Cognac (or sometimes dark rum), but man that was good! Great memories 😃❤️
Can’t wait to try these. Anders never disappoints! 💪🏼
I'm hosting a dinner next week and Brandy Alexander sounds like the perfect dessert drink. As always, your recommendations are top notch!
My absolute favorite winter drink you’ve showcased is the noble beast. Just bought a big bottle of ango for it!
Love this season, because now it's glögg-season (Swedish Glühwein).
And I would like an episode on the flip cocktail.
This made my Friday!
One of the best channels out there! Thanks happy holidays
I go back and forth between the big rocks and smaller cubes, too. Big rock certainly dilutes slower and is modern luxury… but you don’t get the jingle-jangle-clink they reminds you of your granddad. Depends on the mood! Cheers! 🥃
Well said
But it translates as “white girl” … which does seem appropriate
much needed!! thanks Anders
Hope you like these! Cheers
Your channel is so refreshing, and my husband and I look forward each Friday to your content. We have told so many people about you and your amazing cocktails and your humor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion.🎉
Love it! I can never get enough of your videos, Anders!
Excellent, I’ve been making a list of cocktails I’ve been wanting to make this December and these will be welcome additions
Hope you enjoy the holidays Anders!
Thanks again for the wonderful content.
These look delightful.
Cheers AE!! after watching this channel thru the covid years and steadiy stocking my home bar, I have every ingredient listed, Therefore I will make each drink this festive season!!
That was a great segment. As a fellow who does not like whiskey I appreciate the inclusion of the other spirits. I can’t wait to try the Alexander!
Love your videos, especially the holiday recipes!! We think your Brandy Alexander with vanilla ice cream instead of cream is the perfect expression of a cold, snowy winter morning! Salut!
Excellent as usual!!!
I'm excited to try the Sentimental Gentleman and the Brandy Alexander. Cheers!
KEEP IT COMIN' BUDDY!!!! Love your channel!!!
Merry Christmas 🎄 ❤
TO THE BAR!➡️🥃
Scotch and Nocino is such a winning combo. I bet the herbal liqueur balances the sweetness really well.
TGIF! New video from Anders!
Thanks so much. We hosted our block for our annual progressive dinner last weekend and in addition to our house being the dessert house (last stop) it also evolved into the cocktail house as I made numerous Sloe Gin Sours and Brandy Alexanders. They were a huge hit!
My Plymouth Sloe Gin just arrived, so the timing is great. A few of these I want to try out!
Would be amazing to see some festive drink for a summer Christmas for us in Southern Hemisphere!
I can't wait to make a cocktail with a whole egg. Only got Green Chartreuse, but it's the holidays. Cheers!
those look fantastic
So I tried the Coleen Bawn because it sounded interesting, and thanks to your episode on green chartreuse substitutes, I made it with Faccia Brutto…this is delightful! Thanks, Anders!
Cailín bán (pronounced cawleen bawn) means white girl in Irish, maybe that’s where it’s from
Really fun episode, even the ad read was fun!
no worries with small ice cubes! Just have to drink faster !
I would also add the New York Sour to this list, and the original Pisco Punch (the one with the aromatised red wine added to it).
I made an original cocktail for Christmas too a long time ago and called it the the Snow White. I made it like like a French 75, but subbed the gin for geniver, and the simple syrup for orgeat. Garnished with a cocktail cherry. Enjoy
Great lineup!
Had to pause the video on the Sentimental Gentleman - perfect cocktail for this cold Toronto night watching the rest of your video. Cheers!
Brandy Alexander is my fave... well done sir!
flip drinks always tend to be a one and done whenever i fancy one, but they're such a delight
made one for a menu at my work that kinda tastes like a christmassy porridge, involving scotch, allspice dram, oat syrup (1 part oat milk, 1 part sugar) and a whole egg, grated dark chocolate over the top
I love watching your videos! If I'm traveling, i always order signature drinks. I'm lazy making these! I wish you created a pour or shake the premade mixture to buy and sip!
At last year’s party we ran out of cognac and started making Alexanders with Rum. I think it was Plantation 3- very tasty!
I made a variation of the Sentimental Gentleman this week that I call the "Sweet Gentleman" - same basic recipe, but switching out the walnut liqueur for chocolate liqueur (specifically Pataka Cacao Liqueur). For the scotch I used Glemorangie 10. Heartily recommended. Cheers!
Definitely gonna have to try the brandy Alexander finally. Been bartending for two years & still haven’t got around to that one
These all look great. I plan on doing the Brandy Alexander this weekend.
That sentimental gentleman sounds fantastic. Benedictine is one of my favourite liqueurs and I would love to try it in more than a final ward.
Love that you added a brandy Alexander. Forgotten classic!
Made a class wee flip for our cocktail of the week for the start of the season;
50ml cookie Woodford reserve
20ml milk syrup
2 dash chocolate bitters
Whole egg
Heaven!
I look forward to the weekly show!!!! I love the Brandy Alexander and it sneaks right up on you when you drink a few!!! 😂
Was waiting for Oz to try them all
Hi Anders, what a fantastic way to start the holiday season!!….A slow gin sour is a must have!….thank you for presenting such beautiful cocktails!👌👌👌👏👏👏 Happy Holidays🌲 , have a wonderful weekend😁 and CHEERS!🥃🍹🥃🍹
Cheers to you. Happy holidays!
Made your sloe gin sour for a holiday party, it was a huge hit! Cheers
My Mother's favorite drink was the traditional Brandy Alexander. When we would travel or go to great restaurants - you would be surprised at how many bar tenders did not know how to make one. And did not have proper ingredients either. It was frustrating. But now that drinking is heavily on the scene again in America, it has come back. Too bad my Mother is not around to enjoy this period of the revival of proper cocktails in America.
Been making Bourbon Alexander’s this Christmas season and topping them with a pumpkin pie spice blend and oooo boy is it good 🔥🔥🔥
Some good drinks in there! I think my first choice would be the Sentimental Gentleman
Great drinks 👍🏻
I heartily approve the Sentimental Gentleman. I added a sprig of rosemary as garnish that really enhanced an already excellent drink, nicely echoing the bontanicals of the Benedictine.
One of my favorite “seasonal holiday drinks” is a bourbon flip, with bourbon that has been fatwashed in browned butter. And when your at it, making a more “complex” drink, use a rich, caramel sugar suryp (about 2/3 ounce) 👌🏻😍😋
It’s like drinking toffee/caramel/fudge candy, but still a nice bourbon drink. But one is usually enough 😁.
Thanks, Anders. I made both the Sentimental Gentleman and the Brandy Alexander; both were delicious!
I still make your “chocolate punch” recipe from last year. I don’t keep cream or half-&-half around, so I made it with egg nog, & it’s still great!
Holy crap! A drink CUSTOM MADE for my home liqueur project! I’ve got a couple gallons of black walnut liqueur I’ve made over the past few years! Thank you for giving me a recipe to try it with rather than just sipping it! 😅
I knew the Brandy Alexander had to come. Thanks for the video Anders! Fantastic list and I have some homemade sloe gin that I have another use for. Thank you!
Happy holidays. Cheers
I made the Colleen Brawn just now, it's excellent! Top marks. A lot of complexity. And yes, very eggnogy.
OH man I'm going to try that brandy alexander, sounds great. Here is an eggnog one I just came up with last week. 2oz rum chata, 1/2oz fireball whiskey, 2oz eggnog, into rocks glass and stir.
OH man those all look sooo dang declivous!
I started putting Angostura bitters in an atomizer for drinks like that Sloe Gin Sour (originally I did it for whiskey sours) and I'm never going back. I especially love the way its scent works combined with a lemon twist.
Don't forget the Noble Beast!! That was a sleeper hit for us last winter when we discovered your video on it, cheers!
Thanks for mentioning the Noble Beast - happy it was a hit!
Can’t believe how excited I am to have finally been the first like! Tragic really! 😂 I’m looking forward to trying all of these over the Christmas period. Thanks Anders, great video, as ever.
Thanks for including the Sentimental Gentleman in this one, Anders! It inspired me to make a riff & use up my current bottle of Scotch--I don't have walnut liqueur on my bar cart, but I thought Frangelico would be a fitting substitute. 🌰🥃
I like a gin sour with cranberry simple & a rosemary sprig garnish
Duuuuuude… I just came back for the Slo gin sour recipe, that is freaking fantastic!
Edited to say sour, but I did add soda water to the second one and holy cap is it good that way too!
Man, i want to make all of these, which means i need Benedictine and sloe gin, which means i guess i can finish a Christmas list. Thanks Anders! Happy holidays to you and Az.
Every time i see a cocktail with campari, i automatically want to remake it with aperol (as i never have campari). I made wild black cherry liquor this year, I'll try: black cherry liquor, aperol, lemon, simple, egg white. Can't wait!
I've been loving the Kronan Swedish Punsch that you introduced us to a while ago. Try a Punsch Alexander, too! It's fantastic. I had two of them last night.
👏🏽 Please do! Do a video on the Colleen Bawn! I loved the recipe and it’s totally that time of year! I’ve been trying to find more “flip” recipes too! They’re so delicious and I feel like I’m getting good nutrition too 😅
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!
Anders, any chance at a holiday punch episode this year? Or honestly any large format holiday drink? I love holiday cocktails, but tending bar again for a holiday get together sounds exhausting.
Have to work a little Wisco into then holiday episode!
My son created a Drink that is VERY GOOD!! 2 oz of Bullet Rye, 1-1/2 OZ fresh Lemon Juice, 2 Tbls of Maple Syrup and 1/4 t of Good Cinnamon. Shaken with crushed ice and everything into the glass.
Dude, you’re a boss. I made your Wassail for a holiday party along with some Fish House punch anc Smoking Bishop and the Wassail was unreal! I used a classic Munich Doppelbock as I live in Munich and it’s really a perfect beer style for the drink. Looking forward to trying a couple of these out.
Thanks for giving it a shot! Cheers
@AndersErickson, as usual another great video. I really love the mixology and learning about the drinks you make. I wish the weather in Florida was more accommodating for hot a Toddy as I too love the Rum. Speaking of which, can I interest you in a bottle of Siesta Key rum as a gift?? It’s actually quite good. Toasted Coconut, Coffee, Spiced, or Silver. Just say let me know and I’ll be happy to send you a bottle, or two. Regardless, I hope you and the family have an amazing Christmas 🎄 and a phenomenal New Year 🎉.
I love you Anders.... that's all!
My favorite holiday cocktail is the Lion’s Tail. I would love to know the history!
Gotta get some of this glassware
Anders, you really do have a global audience. We enjoy summer Christmas. Please give us some ideas too 😂
I like brown sugar in toddys. Tea first , brown sugar, stir, rum with alot of vanilla flavour
It’s not really a cocktail, but in the french alps we love green chaud during winter : just a hot chocolate with chartreuse, it’s amazing.
But now I need to try a brandy Alexander
Bought a bottle of hazelnut liquor at a Christmas Market here in Germany after watching your Video. The Sentimental Gentleman is a really nice Cocktail. I find the benedictine a bit overpowering. Will try another ratio next time with more hazelnut and less benedictine. Thanks for the Video!
"I feel weird saying creamy... I don't know why? '😂😂😂 Man, I love your videos... Gonna try all of these this month. 500K watch has started. 🎉🎉
I grew up with hot toddies and around christmas time having brandy Alexander milkshakes.
Anders drops a video, all I’m thinking is I bought everything, I’m fully stocked, there’s no fancy ingredients that he can throw at me.
First drink just casually requires half an ounce of a walnut liquor. 😂. Damnit dude!
Thanks so much Anders!! I absolutely LOVE The Sentimental Gentleman and I think all of these fabulous cocktails are terrific choices!! The Brandy Alexander definitely speaks to Christmas! Love this video as always! In choosing a favourite I have to pick The Sentimental Gentleman!! I learned about this cocktail a couple of years ago and I adored it immediately! Single malt scotch is my favourite spirit. I use a peated scotch sometimes and I also love that version! So delicious!! I always use a single malt (a really good scotch) and it's just magnificent with the Benedictine! Cheers!! 🙂I am sipping a dram of a delicious Lagavulin 16 tonight! Talk about fabulous!! I hope the holidays are amazing!!
Thanks Christine! Can’t go wrong with the Lagavulin 16. Hope your holidays are amazing too. Cheers!
@@AndersErickson TY so much!! 🙂
Happy holidays! Where do you get walnut liquor? My local liquor store only had walnut bitters.😢
Great video as usual, may need to track down a few more bottles of liqueurs. Speaking of which, any chance you could do an intro to homemade liqueurs and infusions at some point?
Every time I hear you say here on the channel "Chartreuse is hard to come by these days" I feel somehow a little bit guilty that I have one bottle "verde" and "jaune" each in use and two bottles of each in stock back in the "reserve cabinet" of my bar. No problem at all over here in Europe to order online at many sources; although around 45,00 EUR which is 49.00 $... I wish I could wrap a christmas parcel for you because I feel you are in need of supply! 😇🍾🌲
🌡Minus 16° Celsius (3.2 F) here today, 50 cm of snow outside ☃❄- we are asked to stay home because traffic is in chaos. So I will have plenty of time to try some of these seasons cocktails - thank you for these recipes!
It might be summer here but the weather is still wintery, just an excuse for a holiday cocktail or 2 though
Try making the Brandy Alexander with Meletti Cioccolato instead of the Creme de Cacao. I made it with both chocolate liqueurs and the Meletti was the bigger hit. 🤤 🎉
Once again a great video Anders, though I do have question about the Brandy Alexander. What kind of creme de cacao would be best to use? Light or dark, and if dark would it matter if it is a more dense one?
