  • This was my hardest day on a bike! The Capital Trail is a bike packing route starting and finishing in Edinburgh. It takes in some of central Scotland’s toughest and best gravel and single track. Mark, Gaz and I attempted to do all of the 250km off road route on our gravel bike and in just one day! Watch to see what happened 👌

    Can't decide what's best:
    The epic ride
    The beautiful images
    The great editing
    Or the intimidating facial expression of Cameron in the thumbnail

    Absolutely awesome video. I know the feeling well of those rides where you finish and you're barely there. You don't feel that you want to sleep or eat or anything, its a state beyond exhaustion, almost sickness, where you stopped being able to hold the conversation and banter and high spirits that you started with and just finished on sheer stubbornness and almost without awareness. Madness, but memorably so. The rides that stretch you are the ones that you remember for years.

    Great stuff. I rode the C2C route from Southport to Hornsey on the trans Pennines trail, it was an epic 320 kilometres which we rode in 20 hrs. Like you lit, the hardest day on two wheels. Great to look back on.

      I agree. An MTB would be the best bike for the job but was all doable on the gravel bikes.

    Nice map drawing skills - who doesnt love a map. they are just adventures waiting to happen. Hardest bit for Mark and Gaz must have been riding past their houses and knowing they had a long long way to go still!

      An interesting perspective, I would say overall France is a more beautiful landscape (Tour De France comes to mind) However, the UK being smaller makes for an unmatched variety of hiking/bike packing trails in a relatively close proximity.

    Great video, Cameron. How did the gravel bikes fare on the terrain? Considering doing the route over a few days in the summer on a Cross-Check with 41mm tyres since I don't have a mountain bike!

    • @cameronmason
      @cameronmason  3 года назад

      Thanks Stuart. It is definitely a mountain bike route. The roughness and some steep climbing is more suited to an xc MTB. But if you only have a gravel bike go for the widest tyres and easier gears you can get 👌 great route though, loved it

  • @MMa017

    Just amazing Cameron. One question: this days, did you try to eat as much as you burn, any specific amount of calories pero hour,... or something like that? Good adventure! 🙌🏼

    • @cameronmason
      @cameronmason  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Days like this it is sometimes a race of eating as much as it is about the riding. Staying on top of your food and drink before it becomes an issue is important. I am not aiming to hit a certain value every hour but I try to eat something every 30 mins or so to keep topped up. On the long days though it is likely you will have a hard time and run out of energy.
