*IMHO the Saldano SLO is the holy grail of amps. But after hearing this amp honestly I must reassess my opinion. Sound wise the Ampete is there. Features are beyond what the Saldano offers except maybe the SLO mods. The only thing the Saldano SLO has that beats the Ampete is its price. Would like to see you demo this amp through a 5150 cab. Nice demo straight to the point and no fluff (pun not intended) ☆☆☆☆☆! \m/*

DomSchu my whole collection of gear isnt even a quarter of what this amp costs and i can get all the tones in a quality fashion that this one does. nice sounding amp for sure, but id put my old peavey gear next to it any day. the butcher and the vtm gives me tones pretty damn close to this for a fraction of the cost. add the 5150 overdrive pedal and an eq pedal, boom, instant awesome.

By itself the "normal" setting sounds fuller, I wish if you used that one or the "fast" one in the mix, to cut through better.

Sounds great and all...but how can you justify spending $3,000 when there are a myriad of just as good if not superior amps often from much more well known brands (meaning easier to find replacement parts and repair locations etc..) and often with even more features too! i could pick up AMAZING amps like the ENGL Savage, Hughes and Kettner Triamp, Diezel Herbert, Framus Cobra, Mesa Road King, Orange Dual Dark, Fryette Sig X/Pitbull etc...etc... for about the same price if not cheaper! Or i could get them for less than HALF the price of this if i got them used!!
I know sticker shock is a common response here, but hand wiring versus printed boards. Small build versus assembly lines. Top end boogies, marshalls, Friedman, all boast these prices. A 700.00 amp will only go so long before it's only worth the cost of the tubes....
This may not be popular, and I know the two notes torpedo is useful as all get out, but I feel once you filter an amp through that it might as well be digital modeling at that point. Gimme speakers and a mic any day. Nice demo anyway.
Watch Lasse Lammert's comparison between a 2 notes torpedo and a mic'd cab. You'll be surprised to hear how accurate the torpedo can get.
I've watched a million demos, and really I don't care how accurate it can get, it's my perception and feeling that I'm talking about. I feel the same way about the Kempers, really they should be getting sued. I'm not going to argue this, so don't bother, I've said my piece, I'm done.

I'm glad you are critically analyzing the tone produced through impulses but as Gunther said each to his own. My own being that I think many, due to the fact they know it is an impulse, instantly assume that the impulse sounds worse due to a natural bias to mechanical technology. I have also been a victim of this. The fact is that the impulses help reduce a lot of the errors found in general recording including acoustics and reflections of the room, degradation of the mic capsules and phasing issues found due to inaccurate angles. It also retains the raw signal that would be produced by the amp and allows the tubes to work their ideal volumes allowing the majority of those recording to not blow out their ear-drums just to achieve iconic sounds. I think it is a fantastic tool that retains the majority of tone and I do not believe that players with access to great budgets and ideal circumstances would purposefully use it if they did not believe the product they use gives results that will favor them.
The reason the circumstance is different (which is slowly closing) with actual amp modelling is due to the fact that tubes are much more complex than the solidstate circuitry found within said amps as well as cabinets. Tubes unpredictably alter the signal sound and that is why it is extremely difficult to emulate.
Anyway that's my two cents but glad people do not buy into hype blindly (y)
