I have a handful of these glass flower frogs. My husband has one on his desk for his writing pens, I use them for my sewing utensils, and I also use them for flowers. Great video.
I have a couple of old frogs but rarely use them. Going foam free gives me the push I needed to bring them up from the basement and use them. Thank you!
You are a master! I worked at flower shops in my twenties (now 60s) and marveled at the handful of true artists I watched creating their works of art. Being a novice, I couldn't come close to what they made, but I practiced, and still miss it. I've just discovered your channel and am binge watching you. Each creation is beautiful and exciting - thank you! You're inspiring me to start creating again :)
Thank you so much 😊 really glad to hear you feel inspired to start creating! Just do it! 😀🌼 the joy is in the process as much as the result - it’s so therapeutic 💕🙋🏼♂️
I loved working in a florist too - unpacking the flowers, 'conditioning' them, even cleaning up - it all just smelled so nice and was lovely all around :) The Holidays were a treat too - very Busy, but a treat.
This is so beautiful, delightfully old-fashioned. Sometimes our souls need "old-fashioned," just like we need an old novel or old time music. I remember the last time you used a glass frog--maybe it was the same crystal vase? May I recommend that you put a link to the video some years ago where you taught us how to use the knife? I remember that you demonstrated the way you hold the knife in place as you cut along the stem. Newer Flower Joos fans might not know it's there! Imagine being a fan/subscriber for so long that I can recommend "old" videos. Thanks for Tuesday delights John!
Thank you Lynne! It is the same vase - I just spotted it when looking for something else in the store. 😀 That’s a good suggestion - we might do that on the next video! Have a great week 😀🙋🏼♂️🌼
I have a few of these flower frogs and have always thought they were suppose to be used in the top of a vase. I am so glad you showed how to use them correctly in the bottom of a vase. Beautiful design
So pretty! I love the crystal vase and the glass frog. I’ve used most mechanics but I’ve never had a glass frog. Having seen this, I feel I must try to find a lovely vase and frog like yours! Thank you John x
Luckily for me my old Mum never throws anything away so I have a few of these, and some extra frogs from vases that got broken over the years. Great inspiration thank you.
Hey John I had never heard of a glass frog… walked into a charity shop a couple of days ago and found one, perfect condition. Look forward to trying it
Thanks for this one, John. I love the practicality of it yet with the beautiful bowl it becomes quite elegant. With you, I tend to like the tulip foliage but find that when purchasing tulips the foliage is quite beat up. Beautiful design - again! Best for your week!
Thank you! These are basically old school mechanics - ebay is a great place to look, or in secondhand / charity shops . You just need to keep an eye out for them 😀🌼 that’s part of the fun!
These frogs are not a perfect shape so they sometimes don’t sit so well in some containers - so glass in glass might have some movement. You could try keeping the flowers shorter and making sure that they are spaced in such a way that the weight goes in different directions. So if you look from above the heavier stems are set in a triangle angled out - so a physical balance is there. You could also cheat and use floral putty fix to secure it, or non slip Matt, or add some Peebles to wedge it. The more you use it the easier it will be - you will find how it works best. 🙂
@@FlowerJoos I notice my flower frogs holes are not evenly drilled (they get quite narrow at the bottom), is my flower frog badly made or is it likely the flowers are just too heavy? Even placing 1 flower in won't stand up. I find myself having to jam several stems in at the same time to keep them together, but they still fall out even then.. I don't think my vase is too shallow because I've seen people use them in dishes so shallow they could be soup bowls... any thoughts?
@@cyclesofstrength to be honest my glass frogs are the same. One suggestion is to add the foliage and key flowers first to create a framework which will then hold the rest of the flowers - so a hole might have one thicker stem, or a few thin stems - or the flowers can just be held by the other materials . It depends on your preferred use - in glass or in ceramic ? In shallow or deep? If you use ceramics the frog is hidden - and it can be combined with other methods - like scrunched aluminium wire above the frog - so the frog holds the stem bases and the wire gives support further up the stems.
@@FlowerJoos thanks for replying so quickly! I was messing with an arrangement this afternoon and just gave up and threw them in a deep vase. I was using carnations and baby's breath, so nothing heavy like hydrangeas but maybe I just lack the knack for it.
@@cyclesofstrength keep at it - the twiggy foliage idea is a good way to add extra support - but for longer stems then a deep vase is better 😀 the frog is good for some designs but not every design - it just adds another option to your repertoire!
What a gorgeous spring arrangement! I have a flower frog but had no idea how to use it until watching this video. Thanks so much.

I'm using a glass flower frog, and my flowers keep tipping over and spilling the water everywhere. What might I be doing wrong?
